Iran: Reaching deal in Vienna possible right now

Speaking at his weekly news briefing, Saeed Khatibzadeh said the talks are continuing and negotiating teams are engaged in consultations as before.

Khatibzadeh however said the Vienna talks move forward slowly on days when tough issues are on the agenda.

He added that the other sides have reached the  point where they must take political decisions as Iran did so years ago.

“We are awaiting the West’s response to Iran’s initiatives”, Khatibzadeh noted.

In response to the question if a deal is possible by February’s end, he said if Europeans and the US respond to Iran’s initiatives, a deal is made right now.

Khatibzadeh, however, said the US is not trustworthy and Iran wants concrete guarantees so Washington will not be able to make a mockery of international law again.

He said all sanctions that violate the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, JCPOA, and UN Security Council Resolution 2231 must be terminated.

Elsewhere in the news briefing, Khatibzadeh condemned the US move to seize Afghanistan’s frozen assets as inhumane.

He said the US invasion of Afghanistan cost Afghans billions of dollars in losses and destroyed their infrastructure and it’s now plundering their remaining assets under a false pretext.

He also spoke about the situation in Ukraine. Khatibzadeh said Iran is concerned about mounting tension between Ukraine and Russia, adding the Eurasian region cannot afford another war.

Khatibzadeh also said the US is causing tension in the region and this shows it has not learned a lesson from its destructive behavior in Afghanistan and the Middle East.

He also criticized the Pentagon spokesman’s claim that the US is concerned about threats from Yemen’s Ansarullah movement. Khatibzadeh said the US is part of the war on Yemen and supplies arms to the Saudi-led coalition, so it cannot pretend to be a well-wisher of the Yemeni people.

Khatibzadeh also referred to the issue of prisoner swap between Iran and the US. He said Iran has made this a priority on humanitarian grounds.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman said it seems the US has tied the prisoner exchange to the Vienna talks and is waiting for the outcome of those negotiations.

Palestinian youth killed, many injured in Israeli raid in WB

The Ministry of Health confirmed that Mohammad Akram Abu Salah, 17, from the village of al-Yamoun, has succumbed to his injuries that he sustained in the head by an Israeli gunfire.

Mahmoud Al-Saadi, an official in Jenin, stated that the Israeli forces prevented ambulances from entering the town to treat and transport the injured.

A large number of Israeli forces stormed last night the town of Al-Silah Al-Harithiya and closed all the entrances and roads leading to it.

Security sources told WAFA that an Israeli military force backed by bulldozers stormed the town from all sides, and closed all the roads leading to it and the those linking it to the neighboring town of Yamoun. A number of soldiers have also climbed the roofs of the houses, stormed the family house of prisoner Mahmoud Jaradat and took its measurements.

Israeli media reported that the regime’s forces stormed the town to demolish four Palestinian houses, adding that fierce clashes broke out between residents and the Israeli soldiers.

Fierce clashes have also broken out between Palestinians and Israeli police in the flashpoint neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in the occupied East al-Quds, after a far-right Israeli lawmaker opened an office in the area.

At least 31 Palestinians, including a child, were injured in clashes with Israeli forces in Sheikh Jarrah on Sunday evening, according to the Red Crescent Society in al-Quds. Six people were taken to hospital.

Palestinians took to the streets in other cities of the occupied West Bank in solidarity. In Ramallah, angry protesters chanted slogans against the Israeli regime and settlers and called for support for the residents of Sheikh Jarrah.

Sheikh Jarrah has been the scene of frequent crackdowns by Israeli police on Palestinians protesting against the threatened expulsion of dozens of Palestinian families from their homes in favor of extremist Israeli settler groups.

Since Israel seized East al-Quds in the 1967 war, Israeli settler organizations have claimed ownership of land in Sheikh Jarrah and have filed multiple lawsuits to evict Palestinians from the area.

The threatened Sheikh Jarrah expulsions have also drawn international attention and sparked global outrage.

The forced evictions are widely seen as part of Israel’s attempts to change the demographic character of the occupied territories.

More than 600,000 Israelis live in over 230 settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds.

All Israeli settlements are illegal under international law as they are built on occupied land. The UN Security Council has condemned Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied territories in several resolutions.

Sheikh Qassem: Bahrain uprising ends after popular demands met

Sheikh Qassem made the comments in a ceremony to mark the 11th anniversary of the beginning of the popular uprising in the Persian Gulf country against the ruling al-Khalifa regime.

Sheikh Qassem warned some people are attempting to pretend that the uprising is over after partial realization of its demands.

He stressed that the ruling regime in Bahrain should accept and respect the demands of people.

“The oppressive policies of the Bahraini regime have created a grave situation for the people in terms of politics and their livelihood. This fact prompted the people of Bahrain to stage an uprising to achieve their demands and launch a movement and it was said from day one that this uprising and movement will only end with the realization of the demands of people,” he said.

The Bahrain uprising began in 2011. The protesters have been calling for the right to vote and an end to the al-Khalifa rule in their country. The uprising has faced a bloody crackdown by the regime.

UK, Israeli FMs discuss Vienna talks over Iran nuclear deal

“Talked to Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid this evening about the serious situation of Russian aggression towards Ukraine as well as the talks in Vienna to ensure Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon,” the UK foreign secretary stated on her Twitter page.

Tehran denies seeking nuclear weapons, stressing it wants to master nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

“We are deepening the UK-Israeli economic and security cooperation through a new Bilateral Roadmap,” she continued.

Lapid has also said on Twitter, “Tonight, I spoke with the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom. We discussed the current situation on the Russia-Ukraine border. We share a common desire to see a diplomatic solution which prevents a military confrontation that would have serious consequences.”

Concerns over Moscow’s alleged preparations for an invasion of Ukraine have been increasingly announced in the West and in Kiev recently. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov castigated these statements as an empty and groundless escalation of tension, emphasizing that Russia posed no threat to anyone. At the same time, the Kremlin press secretary did not exclude some possible provocations to justify such claims and warned that the attempts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict by force would carry extremely serious consequences.

Lapid added that he also discussed the Iran nuclear talks, as well as strategic ties, with Truss.

Intensive diplomatic talks continue in the Austrian capital of Vienna between Iran and the P4+1 group of countries to discuss all possible ways to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal by removing all sanctions imposed by the United States against Tehran.

Iran has put many offers on the table and encouraged the other side to come up with new proposals to resolve the outstanding issues.

Iran insists that the talks must lead to the removal of all American sanctions that were imposed against Tehran following Washington’s unilateral withdrawal from the landmark agreement in May 2018. Tehran has also demanded credible guarantees that Washington will not abandon the deal again.

Shamkhani: West pretending to have upper hand in Vienna talks

shamkhani

Shsmkhani said he spoke with chief Iranian negotiator Ali Bagheri on the phone about the trend of the Vienna talks aimed at reviving the 2015 nuclear deal.

Shamkhani said the phone call made him sure about two things.

He said one of them is that Iranian negotiators are facing increasing difficulty advancing Iran’s logical and legal agenda.

The other issue, according to Shamkhani, is that the Western sides continue pretending to have the upper hand in the talks to dodge their allies obligations.

The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council made those comments in a tweet.

This comes as Iran and the P4+1 group of countries are engaged in talks to find a way to return the US to the JCPOA so that Iran will resume its full compliance with the agreement.

Iran says only after the US terminates its sanctions will Tehran return to full compliance with the deal.

Tehran says the US has so far dragged its feet on removing the sanctions.

Iran sends humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

The Iranian Embassy in Kabul said the aid has reached the Afghan province of Ghazni. It also said the shipment includes foodstuff and will be distributed among the needy in the town of Gharah Bagh in Ghazni.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been a pioneer in sending humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan, and the country’s officials have repeatedly emphasized that Iran will stand by the Afghan nation.

Already, 13 shipments of Iranian aid, including food and medical supplies, have been sent to Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Kunduz, Nangarhar and other provinces of Afghanistan.

The medical supplies were meant to treat the victims of Daesh terror attacks in Kunduz, Kandahar and Kabul provinces.

An already dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan has worsened following the suspension of aid coupled with freezing of Afghan assets by many countries including the US and international organizations.

All this happened after the Taliban takeover of the country last August.

The UN says the cold season has caused many hardships for Afghans whose country is going through one of its worst humanitarian crises.

Lilia, a 20-year-old born to Ukrainian parents, took the Islamic oath at the office of the representative of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in the southwestern Iranian city of Yasuj, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province.

Lilia’s mother-in-law recounted how Lilia got to know his son, Nima, and married him after she found an interest in Islam.

Lilia then grew enthusiastic about hijab, Islam’s dress code for women. The pair got married at a church based on Ukrainian rules.

The couple later traveled to Iran together with their child.
