Yemen: 8th year of war to be full of surprises for Saudi-led aggressors

Yemen War

In an interview with Yemen’s al-Masirah Television Channel, Mahdi al-Mashat said the Sana’a government is pursuing the rights of the Yemeni nation and all the measures it has taken so far lies within the same framework.

“If the enemy fails to listen to the voice of wisdom and logic, the eighth year of the aggression will be full of surprises,” he said. “All options are on the table.”

The US-backed coalition war, led by Riyadh, entered its eighth year on March 26.

As the Yemeni people were marking the gloomy occasion, the Armed Forces shocked Riyadh by launching a large-scale retaliatory raid against an Aramco oil storage and shipment facility in Jiddah inside Saudi Arabia.

Mashat pointed to an invitation by the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for talks at the regional union’s headquarters in Riyadh, making clear that the Houthi movement stands ready for negotiations in a “neutral” country, but it will not join a so-called “peace” process in the Saudi capital.

“We seek serious efforts toward achieving a comprehensive solution. What has been staged in Riyadh is far from the framework of peace. If there is a serious process, we stand ready to join,” he added.

His comments follow an announcement by the Saudi-led coalition calling a truce in Yemen. Al-Mayadeen news channel quoted Turki Al-Maliki, spokesman for Saudi-led coalition as saying the truce will be effective from 6 am local time on Wednesday.

Iranian parliament speaker hails young man for his art

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said those who experienced the Sacred Defense years know too well how much all Iranians are indebted to pure youths like “artist Babak Jokar” that know little about the criteria of living in the capital of Iran.

“I am proud of villagers and nomadic people whose love of Iran is way more than their share of the country’s wealth”, Ghalibaf added.

Babak Jokar performed earlier this week to an auditorium filled to capacity and was given a huge applause from those inside. At the program, one of the four judges, Zhaleh Sameti, an actress, however called on him to change his accent which she suggested was a bit different from urban dwellers’.

This comment drew angry reactions from many Iranians on social media.

Saudi-led coalition calls truce in Yemen

Yemen War

Al-Mayadeen News Channel quoted the spokesman for the coalition as saying the truce will be effective from 6 am local time.

Turki Al-Maliki claimed the decision was made in response to a request by the secretary general of the GCC and because negotiations in Riyadh aimed at creating a positive atmosphere to establish peace were successful.

Maliki added that the cessation of hostilities is meant to make it possible for all sides to find a lasting political solution to the Yemen crisis. The decision by the Saudi-led coalition comes over 7 years after the beginning of the war on Yemen in March 2015.

During the war, the Yemeni forces dealt heavy blows to the coalition both in Yemen and deep inside Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Some observers believe that Yemen’s missile and drone strikes against Saudi Arabia and the UAE forced the coalition to accept the ceasefire. The latest attack happened several days ago and targeted Saudi Arabia’s vital installations belonging to its oil giant, Aramco Company. Some reports say the Saudis suffered $1 billion dollars in losses in the latest missile and drone strike. Accordingly, 4 million barrels of oil were burned in the attack.

The Saudi-led war on Yemen has killed tens of thousands of Yemenis, mostly civilians. It has also reduced most of Yemen’s infrastructure to rubble and has created a humanitarian catastrophe, which the UN describes as the worst on earth.

Abadan Refinery

Ahmad Farzaneh, the superintendent responsible for development and stabilization at Abadan Refinery, told IRNA on Wednesday that the first phase of the plan — with an investment of 1.2 billion dollars — was already 92 percent complete and would fully launch within the next six months.

Farzaneh explained that the plan was aimed at rendering the refinery profitable, optimizing standards at the facility, and stabilizing its production capacity by building new units and removing old ones.

Under the new plan, he said, the facility’s production capacity of 360,000 barrels per day will be stabilized.

The standard level of products will also increase to Euro-5. According to the official, the share of gas at the facility will stay at 27.9 percent of total output, and diesel fuel at 30 percent.

Abadan Refinery, Iran’s oldest, produces 25 percent of the country’s fuel needs.

Iran’s UN envoy slams US’s unilateral coercive sanctions against other countries

Zahra Ershadi

Ershadi was addressing the UN General Assembly’s 76th conference on Global Health and Foreign Policy.

She said it’s impossible to strengthen health systems without improving the infrastructure and ensuring the transfer of related technologies.

Ershadi noted that this means that all nations must have equal access to quality, safe, effective vaccines and diagnosis technologies regardless of political considerations.

Iran’s envoy to the UN said all countries must also have access to quality and cost-effective healthcare services and this is a top priority for global development and absolutely necessary for response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ershadi urged all world countries to use this opportunity to promote multilateralism and fight unilateralism.

She underlined Iran’s support for the principle that the development of global health is contingent upon international partnerships, especially during crises.

Ershadi added that, “In spite of all of this, we are witnessing the US and a few other countries that follow it blindly take unilateral coercive measures including oppressive economic sanctions against a number of nations that include those who are suffering from the severe implications of this pandemic.”

She said The US and its allies claim the unilateral coercive measures do not include medicines and food but their sanctions have actually cut off the sanctioned countries from the global banking system and this has made it impossible for them to buy medicines and food.
