Kahtibzdeh: Terrorists seeking to wage civil war in Afghanistan

Saeed Khatibzadeh Iran FM Spokesperson

On Friday, a huge bomb explosion tipped through the Mawlawi Sekandar Mosque for Sunni Muslims killing 33 and injuring 43 more.

The attack took place at a time when worshipers had gathered at the mosque for Friday prayers. Khatibzadeh pointed to a series of terrorist attacks in Afghanistan over the past days and described the escalation of violence as a source of deep concern.

“The attack on the Sunni mosque in Kunduz Province, which followed Wednesday’s attack on the Shia mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, clearly shows the evil goals of the terrorists serving as mercenaries for foreigners, who are seeking to wage a civil war in Afghanistan,” he added.

The new terror attack follows four similar bombings across Afghanistan on Thursday, all claimed by Daesh. One of the attacks tore through a Shia mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afhhanistan, killing at least 40 people and wounding around 100 others.

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the acting Taliban administration, said in a tweet on Friday that at least 33 had lost their lives and another 43 others injured, including children, in the blast that hit the Mawlawi Sekandar Mosque in Kunduz.

The attack took place at a time when worshipers had gathered at the mosque for Friday prayers.

The Taliban official added, “The perpetrators of these incidents…are evil elements and serious efforts are being made to arrest and punish them.”

No group has so far claimed responsibility, but the bomb attack bears the hallmarks of the Daesh terror group.

The new terror attack follows four similar bombings across Afghanistan on Thursday, all claimed by Daesh. One of the attacks tore through a Shia  mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afhhanistan, killing at least 40 people and wounding around 100 others.

The Taliban officials said Friday that they had arrested the mastermind of the bombing in Mazar-i-Sharif, whom they described as a key Daesh operative responsible for several other terror attacks in Afghanistan in the past.

Covid downward trend holds in Iran

COVID in Iran

The Health Ministry also logged 1,096 new cases of the Coronavirus. They include 174 hospitalizations.

The downward trend in Covid deaths and infections has held in Iran over the past couple of months thanks to a nationwide vaccination campaign.

Iranian officials also credit the observance of health protocols by people for the declining numbers of Coronavirus deaths and cases.

Despite that, there are still a number of cities and towns in Iran that are marked red that shows people in those areas face the highest level of risk from the virus.

These people have been repeatedly urged by officials to be wary of Covid.

Iran has so far given nearly 148 million doses of Covid vaccine to people in the country including foreigners free of charge. Millions of people are tripled-vaxxed, meaning they have got their third, or booster, shots.

Iranian officials believe the country has done a better job than many other countries in terms of Covid containment.

The disease has killed millions worldwide, with the US being the worst hit country both death and infection wise. China initially brought Covid under control. But it’s now struggling to contain the virus which has resurged in its economic hub, Shanghai.

Breeding chickens by the world’s rarest birds in Huweizeh Marches

Ferruginous duck

Ali Sajjad Jalali commander of the protected area of Huweizeh in Khuzestan Province, says the birds previously moved to the marshes during the winter but this time around they are breeding chickens.

He added that the Ferruginous duck is an endangered species in the world that is on the cusp of extermination.

According to Jalali, studies show that this year, for the first time, 15 Ferruginous ducklings along with the female birds were sighted in the Huweizeh Marshes.

He noted that if the chicken breeding by these birds continue, a proper protection plan will be put in place to preserve this beautiful species.

Jalali also said since last November, 70 to 85 Ferruginous ducks have been spotted in the Huweizeh Marshes.

Taliban arrest ‘mastermind’ of terror attack on Afghan Shia mosque

Taliban Afghanistan

Asif Waziri, police spokesman of Balkh, and the Afghan Interior Ministry said on Friday that Abdul Hamid Sangaryar, an Afghan national who planned the bombing, had been taken into custody.

Waziri said Sangaryar was a key operative of the Daesh terror group in Afghanistan. “He played a key role in several attacks in the past and had repeatedly managed to escape, but this time, we arrested him in a special operation,” the police official said.

Daesh claimed the bomb blast that ripped through the Seh Dokan mosque during midday prayers in Mazar-i-Sharif on Thursday.

Reports say over 40 people have been killed and as many as 100 others injured in the terrorist attack. The Takfiri outfit also claimed another bombing in the northern city of Kunduz on Thursday, which left at least four people dead and wounded 18 others.

Daesh first showed its face in Afghanistan in 2015, when the country was suffering from chaos fueled by years of foreign invasion and militancy.

India releases seized Iranian ship, its 11 crew members

Iran Ship

The vessel had been seized on April 9 in the waters of the Andaman Sea and placed in the charge of India’s coast guards for further legal proceedings.

With the follow-up efforts by Iran’s Embassy in India and Consulate in Heyderabad, the ship was freed and escorted to the Islamic Republic’s territorial waters by the Indian coastguard on Thursday night.

The crew members did not have their ID information with them at the time of the arrest, making it difficult for Indian officials to identify them.

New Delhi has adopted stricter laws for facilitating detection and confiscation of illicit drugs in the wake of the seizure of a number of narcotics cargos being transferred to the country from Afghanistan.

India has also expressed its willingness for an all-out expansion of cooperation with Iran in the fight against drug smuggling.

While expressing regret over the deadly terrorist attacks in Afghanistan, Iranian Health Minister Bahram Einollahi said that the Iranian Ministry of Health is honored to have done its utmost to give healthcare services to Afghans in line with the policies of the Islamic establishment, religious values and human dignity.

He added that Afghans seeking treatment or healthcare services including vaccination against Covid-19 have been facing no restrictions and those services are offered free of charge or at a lowest cost.

Bombings on Thursday and Tuesday killed a large number of Shia Muslims in different parts of Afghanistan.

The deadliest attack hit a mosque in the city Mazar-e-Sharif on Thursday, reportedly killing dozens of Shia Muslim worshippers and wounding many others. The other attack happened Tuesday outside a boys’ school in the Afghan capital Kabul. A third blast took place in Kunduz province, injuring 11 people. The Daesh terrorists claimed the bombings.

Many Palestinians injured in Israeli raid on al-Aqsa Mosque

The fresh raid took place on Friday morning, with Palestinians throwing stones at the Israeli police, who were dressed in full riot gear and entered the compound firing rubber bullets and stun grenades, according to journalists at the scene.

A small fire was also reported at the compound, with Palestinians blaming Israeli police for setting a tree alight, while the police claimed that the fire was the result of Palestinians throwing fireworks.

The Palestinian Red Crescent put the number of Palestinians injured at 31, including 14 taken to hospital for treatment. Israeli police announced that one police officer had been injured after being hit by a stone.

Israeli police blamed Palestinians for throwing rocks, and said that they waited until early morning prayers ended before entering the compound.

The holy site has been the centre of days of violence amid heightened tensions following a series of attacks inside Israel and police raids in the West Bank, which Israel is illegally occupying.

A 20 year old Palestinian, Ibrahim Lebedi, died on Friday of injuries he sustained after being shot during an Israeli raid of al-Yamun, near the city of Jenin, in the northern occupied West Bank on April 18.

In a meeting with a United States State Department delegation on Thursday, the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, stated Israel was responsible for the escalation in the occupied East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank.

Tens of thousands of Muslims are expected at Al-Aqsa later in the day for Friday prayers. Visits by Jewish groups were suspended from Friday for the last 10 days of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

This year, the fasting month has coincided with the Jewish Passover and major Christian holidays, with tens of thousands of people from all three faiths flocking to Jerusalem’s Old City.

Senior Iraqi cleric likens Israel to Daesh in mistreatment of Muslims

Israeli Troops al-Aqsa Mosque

In a tweet on Thursday, the cleric, who leads Iraq’s Sadrist movement, said the Daesh terrorists “vent their wrath on Muslims and spare the Zionists,” and that they consider the Zionists to be closer to Islam than others, as acknowledged by one of their ringleaders.

“The ugly characteristic shared by the Zionists, Daesh terrorists, their supporters, and enemies of moderate Islam is [showing] blatant hostility toward what’s right in the course of the holy month of Ramadan,” he said.

At the same time as the Zionists overtly continue their provocative acts against Palestinians at the al-Aqsa Mosque, the Daesh terrorists show open enmity toward holy Shia shrines and mosques in Iraq, Sadr said.

Israeli forces have, in recent weeks, stepped up raids of al-Aqsa Mosque, attacking Muslim worshipers and escorting the Israeli settlers desecrating Islam’s third holiest site.

Sadr’s tweet came shortly after Daesh claimed responsibility for bomb attacks in two Afghan cities. One of the attacks targeted a Shia mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif in Balkh Province, reportedly killing at least 40 people and injuring around 100 others.

Daesh lost its territorial gains in Iraq in late 2017 thanks to the sacrifices of the national army, backed by neighboring Iran. The remnants of the Takfiri outfit, however, continue to carry out sporadic attacks in the country.

Iranian FM: Diplomatic path in Vienna working well

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian

Amir Abdollahian said Iran and the P4+1 countries “have not gone far from a good and lasting deal” in the Austrian capital. He made the remark in a phone conversation with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Meqdad.

Amir Abdollahian added the exchange of messages between Iran and the US is done through the European Union.

The Iranian foreign minister added, “We have time and again reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not pay attention to excessive demands nor will it retreat from its red lines”.

Elsewhere, Amir Abdollahian strongly condemned the desecration of the al-Aqsa Mosque by Israel, saying, “We witness crimes at the hands of Zionists on a daily basis at al-Aqsa Mosque”.

The top Syrian diplomat also expressed pleasure about the excellent bilateral ties between Tehran and Damascus. Meqdad strongly condemned the Zionist regime’s desecration of al-Aqsa, appreciating Iran’s role in support of the Palestinian resistance.
