Saudi’s Aramco under Yemen retaliatory attacks

Yemen’s army spokesman Yahya Saree

Yemen’s army spokesman Yahya Saree said on Friday that missiles had targeted Aramco facilities in the port city of Jeddah and drones had conducted strikes on the Ras Tanura and Rabigh refineries.

Crucial facilities in the capital Riyadh also came under attack from Yemen, the spokesman added.

Drones also hit Aramco facilities in Jizan and Najran, southwestern Saudi Arabia.

Earlier, Saudi state media also reported a string of drone and rocket attacks by Yemeni troops on targets in Jeddah.

The Yemeni army announced in a statement carried by al-Masirah television network that it had launched the operation ‘Breaking the Siege 3.’

Yemen has ramped up its retaliatory strikes on Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies — including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) — launched the brutal war on Yemen to eliminate Yemen’s popular Ansarullah movement and reinstall a former regime. The conflict, accompanied by a tight siege, has failed to reach its goals, but has killed hundreds of thousands of Yemeni people.

Iran FM: Tehran a close friend to Lebanon in difficult days and times of calm

Hossein Amir Abdolahian Michel Auon

In the meeting, Amir Abdollahian said, “We closely monitor the developments in Lebanon and are a friend and a supporter of this country both in difficult days and during the times of calm. We are ready for all types of cooperation with this friendly country in its current difficult juncture.”

The Iranian foreign minister pointed to the fast pace of developments in the region and said, “We believe these developments will be in the interest of Lebanon and the entire region.”

He added, “Based on the information that we have, we are positive regarding the region’s future and the outcome of negotiations.”

Amir Abdollahian voiced the Islamic Republic’s preparation to make use of its own capacities to play a role in resolving the crisis in Yemen.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, he added, welcomes Syria’s relations with the region and Arab countries.

He further conveyed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s greetings to Aoun and handed over his invitation for the Lebanese president to make a visit to the Islamic Republic.

For his part, Aoun pointed to the economic hardships facing his country and said any problem in the region negatively affects Lebanon and, inversely, any problem in Lebanon leaves a negative impact on the region.

“Unfortunately, we are living in a region where there is a web of problems. While the Arab states are agitated, we are suffering from the issue of Syrian refugees; therefore, we should move toward stability,” the Lebanese president said.

Aoun said Lebanon’s resistance movement, which has the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran, managed to grow in the south and brought peace of mind to the country, but Lebanon comes under pressure because of the very same resistance movement.

The Lebanese president also expressed hope that the Vienna negotiations will yield successful results.

Iran FM says Tehran ready for fifth round of talks with Saudi Arabia

Iran Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdolahian

Amir Abdollahian made the comment in an interview with Lebanon’s Al-Mayadeen news channel.

Amir Abdollahian said Iran’s relations with Saudi Arabia are not good but the Islamic Republic is not to blame for this.

The Iranian foreign minister added that the Tehran-Riyadh relations are facing challenges and problems and that Iran is making efforts to keep the door open to dialog between the two sides.

He noted that it was the Saudi government that severed ties with Iran.

Amir Abdollahian said Saudi Arabia was the first country to cut ties with Iran and this is while the Islamic Republic has good relations with other Arab countries like Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

The Saudis unilaterally severed ties with Iran after a group of Iranian protesters attacked the Saudi embassy in Iran in protest against the kingdom’s execution of a Shia cleric in 2016.

Iran and Saudi Arabia have so far held four rounds of talks mediated by Iraq.

Iran Covid: Death toll continues downward trend

COVID in Iran

According to the figures released by the ministry on Friday, 1,530 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, slightly up from the figure recorded a day earlier.

The ministry said 306 people have been hospitalized in the past day due to severe infection.

The new infections brought the total caseload since early 2020 to 7,147,407.

With the newly-recorded deaths taken into account, Covid-19 has claimed the lives of 139,917 people so far in Iran.

Although the sixth wave of Covid-19, driven by the Omicron variant, seems to be receding, officials have warned that a failure to abide by the health protocols may lead to a rise in infections and deaths following the two-week Nowruz holidays.

Meanwhile, the country’s inoculation campaign continues non-stop. So far, 146,178, 539 doses of vaccine have been administered across the country of nearly 84 million.

The new figures showed 25,790,670 people have received a third dose.

Many Iranians are currently travelling during the Nowruz holidays which started last Sunday.

Unlike the previous two years, the health authorities have sharply eased Covid-related restrictions, adding to the concerns of a new coronavirus wave in the weeks to come.

Oji said the contracts pertain to the development of oil fields, gas flares and gas fields as well as the improvement of the operation of refineries in terms of quality and quantity.

Oji referred to the designation of the Persian year of 1401 as the year of knowledge-based companies, saying more than 200 knowledge-based firms have announced readiness to cooperate with the Oil Ministry.

He noted that most of the fields of activity proposed to knowledge-based companies are related to optimizing fuel consumption, increasing production in oil and gas fields and shallow wells and increasing productivity.

Oji said, “We are capable of producing 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 3.85 million barrels of oil by relying on the capabilities of our own experts.”

In Lebanon, Iran FM holds talks on bilateral ties, intl. issues

Iran & Lebanon Amir Abdolahian Najib Mikati

On Thursday, Amir Abdollahian held a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Beirut, where they discussed a range of topics, including Lebanon’s energy needs, the talks in Vienna on a potential revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, and the negotiation process between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Iran’s chief diplomat said Tehran was ready to enhance economic ties with Lebanon and help the Arab state overcome its shortages of electricity and gas.

He also reaffirmed Iran’s position in the Vienna talks and said the country remained positive and serious in efforts to achieve an agreement aimed at restoring the 2015 nuclear deal.

The minister said Iran will continue pursuing its legitimate demands in the process and will not cross its red lines.

In turn, Mikati expressed hope for the Vienna talks to bear fruit and said an agreement in the Austrian capital will positively impact Lebanon and the entire region.

The premier also welcomed the negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia aimed at fixing their troubled relations.

In a separate meeting, Amir Abollahian exchanged views his counterpart, Abdullah Bou Habib, on bilateral and regional topics, including the situation in Afghanistan, Yemen and Palestine.

The top Iranian diplomat said his country will continue to stand by the Lebanese nation and is ready to help it get through the difficulties it is facing.

Amir-Abdollahian also met with Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri for talks on bilateral trade cooperation and other international issues, including the Vienna talks, the Palestinian cause and the Ukraine conflict.

Berri, among other things, criticized some Arab states for turning their back on the long-standing cause against Israeli occupation of Palestine and normalizing ties with the Tel Aviv regime.

Iran says looting Syria natural resources violates UN Charter

US Troops in Syria

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi made the remarks before the United Nations Security Council in March 24 meeting on “The situation in the Middle East: (Syria)” in New York.

Following is the full statement of the Iranian ambassador to the UN:

Syria’s humanitarian situation remains alarming. The UN estimates that 14.6 million Syrians need humanitarian aid. This represents a 9% increase over 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the country’s already fragile humanitarian situation.

Given this dire humanitarian situation, where significant parts of Syria’s civilian infrastructure have been destroyed, the imposition of unilateral coercive measures on the Syrian people has had disastrous consequences on all aspects of their lives and runs counter to certain aspects of Security Council Resolution 2585 relating to early recovery projects, which are critical to strengthening Syrians’ resilience and allowing displaced people to return home. These measures have also impacted international and national humanitarian organizations’ efforts in Syria.

These illegal and disruptive measures must immediately end. Claiming to care about the difficult humanitarian situation in Syria while backing unilateral sanctions against the Syrian people is extremely hypocritical.

The Security Council must work diligently to ensure that Resolution 2585 is properly implemented in a balanced and effective manner, particularly in terms of early recovery projects and the lifting of unilateral sanctions.

We, once again, condemn the robbery of Syrian people’s natural resources, particularly oil and agricultural products, in areas occupied by foreign forces. This criminal act is an obvious violation of Syrian territorial sovereignty, relevant Security Council resolutions, and the United Nations Charter.
The Syrian crisis cannot be resolved without ending the occupation, and uprooting the terrorist threats.

Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity cannot be jeopardized in the name of fighting terrorism. Therefore, all occupying and uninvited foreign forces, including those of the U.S., must leave the country immediately and without any conditions.

We strongly condemn the Israeli regime’s repeated violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Israeli attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructures in Syria on March 7th, 2022 constitute clear violations of international humanitarian law.

We call on the Security Council to hold this regime accountable for such acts of aggression and malice, as well as its blatant threats to use force against other regional countries, endangering regional peace and security.

We support the continuation of inter-Syrian negotiations in Geneva, which are now taking place under the auspices of the Constitutional Committee. In this context, we welcome Mr. Pedersen’s continuous efforts to bring the negotiations to a successful conclusion.

There is no other alternative to pursuing a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned settlement with UN assistance, free of outside influence or pressure, and without any artificial deadlines.

We maintain our contacts with the Syrian government, the UN Special Envoy, and our partners in Astana Format in order to end the crisis and alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people as soon as possible.

Iran’s Leader performs prayers at Ayat. Reyshahri’s funeral

Following the prayers performed on Wednesday evening, Ayatollah Khamenei delivered a speech at the funeral ceremony in praise of the late cleric’s character and all the valuable services he provided to Iran’s establishment following the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The Leader described Ayatollah Reyshahri’s passing as a “bitter and sad loss.”

The cleric died at the age of 76 due to an illness on March 22 after being hospitalized for several days.

He served as the chief custodian of the holy shrine of Abdol Azim al-Hasani (AS) in Rey, south of Tehran.

Born in October 1946, the cleric had different post-Revolution posts in the government.
He was a former member of the Assembly of Experts. He was also Iran’s first intelligence minister after the Islamic Revolution and once served as prosecutor general.
