Iran Dismisses US VP Pence’s False Accusations

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi has rejected the false accusations levelled against Iran by US Vice President Mike Pence, saying such remarks are made out of enmity.

In a statement on Wednesday, Qassemi said, “The Iranian nation has, for decades, tasted the US-style relationship and friendship [which have been coupled] with different types of malignancy and unjust moves.”

Qassemi said these moves include coups, plots to topple the national and legal government, capitulation, support for dictators, backing for Saddam in attacking the Iranian territory and using chemical weapons against defenceless people in some Iranian cities, shooting down an Iranian passenger plane over the Persian Gulf and conferring a medal of honour upon the commander of the American warship which attacked the civilian aircraft.”

According to the statement, other instances of such hostile moves include calling Iranians a terrorist nation, imposing unfair sanctions [on Iran] for years, using a fabricated name to refer to ‘Persian Gulf,’ sabotaging [efforts] and seeking unwarranted and irrelevant pretexts in fulfilling their commitments under the JCPOA and trying to prevent the Iranian nation from benefiting from the advantages of this international deal.”

Therefore, Qassemi noted, the US officials’ hollow and already-tested promises are of no value to the Iranian nation.

He underlined that deceitful and unfair comments made by the US vice president are not true, and that Iran has never sought nukes.

Qassemi said the JCPOA truly enlightened world countries and people about the lies that Washington has been telling for years.

“The US official was expected to have found out by now that Iran’s role in fighting terrorism and standing by the Iraqi and Syrian governments and nations was the key element that thwarted the plot hatched by some transregional countries and their regional allies with the help of extremist violent terrorists against the people and independent governments in this region,” said the spokesman.

He added that Washington’s relentless and futile attempts to fabricate false threats in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East are merely aimed at destabilizing the region to serve the Israeli regime’s wicked and long-term objectives, keeping Muslim nations from remaining united against Tel Aviv, and securing their own illegitimate economic interests by selling huge amounts of weaponry to regional countries.
