Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security reported two individuals were killed and ten wounded in an armed conflict on the border with Kyrgyzstan that began on Thursday.
A shooting erupted between border forces of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on Thursday, the Kyrgyz border service said, adding that the Tajik side used mortars and grenades.
Kyrgyzstan will not host a US military base on its soil, President Sadyr Japarov says. Bishkek has announced such a move would place the central Asian country in a "cat and mouse" game with world powers. Earlier, Uzbekistan had opposed the US military deployment in the country.
