Symbolic polo game played in Isfahan’s iconic field

Symbolic polo competitions have been held at Naqshe-Jahan, a major square in the central Iranian city of Isfahan to commemorate Nowruz, which marks the beginning of the Persian New Year.

Polo is one of old and historical Iranian sports and was initially played by Persian kings.

However, it has turned into a global sport today. Sports such as hockey and golf have also been inspired by polo.

When polo was being played, kings of Ancient Persia as well royal families and ordinary people enthusiastically watched the games.

The Naqshe-Jahan is the oldest and largest polo field in the world.
