VP Stresses Significance of Iran-Turkey Ties for Region

Speaking at a joint press conference with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Tehran, Jahangiri hailed the “good and influential” political relations between the two neighbors.

“In a situation… that terrorist groups have upset the region’s security and stability, relations between the two countries (Iran and Turkey) can have great influence on achieving stability,” the Iranian official noted.

He also urged the need for bridging differences between the two Muslim neighbors for the sake of regional stability.

“Beside the many commonalities, the two countries may have differing views on some issues, but we can steer the region towards stability by managing the differences,” Jahangiri pointed out.

He then hailed close cooperation between Tehran and Ankara in different fields, particularly since the Justice and Development Party (AKP) took the helm in Turkey.

Turkish Prime Minister Davutoglu arrived in Tehran on Friday evening for talks with Iranian officials on various issues, including ways to enhance bilateral relations.

Experts consider the trip as highly significant as another round of Syria peace negotiations are set to begin in Geneva on March 9, which could offer the neighbors an opportunity to discuss their wildly different views on the five-year-old crisis in Syria.

Despite their differences, Turkey and Iran have largely maintained cordial diplomatic relations.

4th Mother-Child Station Opens in Tehran Subway

Tehran’s subway is overcrowded, making it hard for women with children to travel. Therefor, Tehran mayor has repeatedly stressed the need for establishment of such stations where mothers can rest for a while or do their children’s stuff. The number of these stations is rapidly rising in subway stations.

Denmark Ready to Promote Ties with Iran in Post-Sanctions Era

A few days ago in a ceremony held in Tehran, Denmark’s Ambassador to Iran Danny Annan underlined the need for expansion of Tehran-Copenhagen relations in the wake of the recent nuclear agreement between Tehran and world powers (known as JCPOA), which took effect on January 16 and terminated all nuclear-related anti-Iran sanctions.

“In the post-JCPOA era, Tehran and Copenhagen can enhance their mutual interactions in different sectors … and Denmark is ready to promote such cooperation with Iran,” Annan said earlier this week, according to a report by Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA).

Former Iranian Ambassador to Denmark Hamid Bayat also noted that when the doors are opened for Iran-Europe enhanced ties, “we will witness the willingness of Danish companies for their presence in Iranian markets.”

Denmark’s Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen made an official visit to Iran in early January at the head of delegation including the representatives of 60 trade companies, Bayat said, adding that the visit marked the beginning of renewed ties between the two countries.

When Iran was under sanctions and financial transactions were impossible, a Danish pharmaceutical company sold drugs to Iran and said it will collect the money once the sanctions are lifted.

Morteza Damanpak Jami, Deputy for Research at the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Center for International Research and Education, and also a former Iranian ambassador to Copenhagen, highlighted the good cooperation of Danish companies with Iran, even when Tehran was under international sanctions.

“A reputable Danish pharmaceutical company, though it could not receive money from Iran because of sanctions, exported the drugs Iran needed, and said it would collect the money once the sanctions are lifted,” he said.

Photos of Iranian people in the 1930s taken by Danish engineers on display in Tehran

The Iranian and Danish officials made the remarks on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition entitled as “Iranian Historical Photos from the View of Danish Photographers”.

The exhibition was held in one of the buildings of Iranian foreign ministry to display historical photographs of Iran taken by Danish photographers.

Pointing to the exhibition, Bayat noted that the photos displayed in the firm are significant in the sense that camera was rare back in those years in Iran and was not accessible for ordinary people.

In those days, Danish engineers not only photographed the construction project of Iran’s south-north railroad in 1933, but also took pictures of people’s lives, the Iranian ex-envoy said.

This is why these pictures are important to us both historically and socially, he went on to say, thanking Denmark and the Danish company that organized the photo exhibition.

Thomas Mayer, an official with the Danish company that organized the exhibition, was also attending the exhibition. He was asked about the reason for which they keep these photos in spite of the high expenses of keeping them, and said that the company implements several projects in different countries and archives and keeps the photos and documents of some important projects.

Excavations show that bread was baked in Iran for the first time in history

The Danish envoy to Iran Annan elsewhere in his remarks noted that the photo exhibition is just one of the cultural fields in which Tehran and Copenhagen can promote their bilateral ties.

Besides this photo exhibition, Iranian and Danish archeologists are currently excavating Zagros Mountains in western and central Iran to find that whether the first civilization has been established in this region or not, the Danish ambassador said.

Based on the findings of these excavations, he added, the first traces of baking bread and wheat were found in these regions.

Supreme Leader to lead prayers for late ayatollah Vaez

The funeral ceremony for Ayatollah Tabasi will be held in Mashad tomorrow.

Iran’s Supreme Leader will lead the prayer ceremony for late ayatollah.

Earlier today, Ayatollah Khamenei in a message condoled demise of Ayatollah Vaez Tabasi.

According to the report of Supreme Leader’s Office website on Friday, the supreme Leader wrote in his message that the late ayatollah was a dear brother to him, a devoted disciple for late Imam Khomeini and a hard working servant for the revolution.

He was one of pioneers in Islamic movement, who stayed with the revolution and people to the end of his life, the message said.

The Supreme Leader condoled with family of the late ayatollah, especially his patient spouse and children and wished them patience and tolerance.

The late ayatollah was the Custodian of Astan Quds Razavi which is in charge of holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) and the Supreme Leader’s representative in Razavi, North and South Khorasan provinces, who died at the age of 80 for respiratory problems on Friday morning.

Turkish PM heads for Iran for key talks

Davut-oglu

Heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, Davutoglu left for Tehran on Friday for a two-day official visit.

During the premier’s stay in Tehran, Iranian and Turkish officials are slated to discuss regional crises, particularly the five-year-old conflict in Syria. Tehran and Ankara have different views on the war in the Arab country.

Turkey backs militants and insists that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad should not be part of the Arab country’s future. Iran says the decision on Assad’s fate is up to the Syrian people and supports the Syrian army and its allies fighting militants.

Davutoglu’s trip will be the highest level between the two neighboring countries for almost a year after President Recep Tayyib Erdogan paid an official visit to Tehran in April 2015.

Despite their differences, Tehran and Ankara have largely maintained diplomatic relations.

Indonesia Eyes 120,000 bpd of Iran’s Crude

The official told Reuters that Tehran and Jakarta will discuss next week a short-term agreement for 120,000 bpd of Iran’s crude for a refinery in Central Java.

The report added that an Indonesian delegation, led by Oil Minister Sudirman Said, will visit Iran next week to also discuss possible import deals for Iranian Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and oil investments in the Middle East country.

“The price of Iran’s crude is much cheaper … but it can only match the Cilacap refinery,” Indonesia’s OPEC governor Widhyawan Prawiraatmadja told reporters late Thursday.

Iran is also offering five oil and gas blocks for Pertamina to invest in, Prawiraatmadja said.

Last month, Iran loaded its first cargo of oil to Europe since implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

A tanker for France’s Total SA and vessels chartered for Chinese and Spanish companies were loaded at Iran’s southern island of Kharg.

The JCPOA, which took effect on January 16, terminated all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran.

The elections in Iran were carried out without filtering and with freedom of access to information

According to an IRNA journalist, the efforts made by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology of Iran were successful in fulfilling the president’s promise about people’s freedom of access to information during the campaign period for the 10th Parliament and the 5th Assembly of Experts. A ministry spokesman announced that 98% of the voting centres had been covered by the country’s best communication network on the day of the elections.

Mohammadreza Farneghizad said, “Three months in advance of election day, a top-quality communication network was created for the Ministry of ICT co-ordination centre, involving members of the Information Technology Organization of Iran, the Telecommunication Infrastructure Company and the Mobile Telecommunication Company of Iran.”

He highlighted the responsibility of this centre in creating high-speed connections between the election campaigns and the voting centers. He added, “We received no reports of any problems in the country’s communication network.”

Mahmoud Vaezi, the Minister of Communication, also mentioned the huge turnout of Iranians during the elections, saying that there had been no communication problems between voting centres.

Vaezi said, “For the first time, there was no internet, social network or messaging network disruption during the elections.”

He was asked whether he had been pressured to limit the internet and social network access during the elections, and responded, “We had several meetings and seminars, and we also received suggestions from different parties that the internet and certain social networks should be closed during the elections, but none [of these suggestions] were accepted.”

The Ministry of Communication added, “The role of social networks is to share information. Even the highest people in the country, such as the Supreme Leader and the President, insisted on all services being employed to encourage people to take part in the elections.”

Earlier, Iran’s President had promised that he would use all his powers to grant all the nation access to appropriate bandwidth.

In the 5th Information and Communication Technologies Festival, held last May, the president said that one of the most important responsibilities of the Ministry of ITC free was to provide access to third and fourth generation services (3G, 4G) for all internet users and mobile subscribers.

At the same event, Rouhani added, “In addition to developing 3G and 4G, bandwidth should also be increased, not only for homes and offices, but also for the mobile phones in people’s hands. This should happen with the collaboration of the private sector.”

In Zaman-e-Tahavol magazine, the Minister of Communication announced the figure of IRR2400bn, which had been spent in 2014 on technological development in Iran’s underprivileged regions. Also, by the end of last year, 200 cities enjoyed 3G coverage, and 70 4G.

Vaezi also announced that there are 27.5m smart phones in the country, out of which 9m are internet-connected.

In his report, Vaezi also mentioned that last year, 8,000 villages received internet services, and that this number increased to 25,000 in the current year. He noted that the fiber optic capacity of the country will be increased by 12½ to 13 times within the next 15 years.

Vaezi said, “460 cities have been equipped with 3G services, and 160 cities with 4G in the final days of the current year. We hope that by the end of next year, accessing this technology will be equally possible for all people across the country.”

Leader Condoles Passing Away of Iranian Cleric Vaez Tabasi

In a message on Friday, Ayatollah Khamenei paid tribute to the late cleric for his allegiance to the aspirations of the Islamic Revolution and his tireless efforts.

The holy city of Mashhad had been witnessing the “courageous and influential presence” of the late cleric since the beginning of the Islamic movement, while his activities in the perilous arenas were in progress until the final days of the Iranian nation’s uprising that resulted in the Islamic Revolution of 1979, Imam Khamenei added.

The Leader also hailed the late Vaez Tabasi for his honorable record in the Astan Quds Razavi.

The senior Iranian cleric died at the age of 80. He has been admitted to the hospital since a couple of days ago due to respiratory problems.

Born in the holy city of Mashhad in 1935, Ayatollah Vaez Tabasi began to get religious schooling in different seminaries at 12 years of age.

Soon after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini appointed him as the chief custodian and trustee of the Astan Quds Razavi.

Astan Quds Razavi is a charitable foundation in Mashhad that administers the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) and the endowments bestowed on the trusteeship.
