By Imposing Sanctions, the West Deprived Itself of Iranian Rich Culture: Bulgarian VP

popova

“By imposing sanctions on Iran, the West has deprived itself of this country’s rich culture for 37 years,” said Margarita Popova, the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria.

She made the remarks in a meeting with Abbas Khamehyar, the International Deputy of Culture and Islamic Communications Organisation, who recently visited Bulgaria.

According to a report by Mehr, Popova added added “the West has missed the chance of exchanging cultural values during these years, which is an extensive damage to Western people.”

“I believe that benefiting from Iran and Bulgaria’s great cultural and scientific capacities is the best and fastest way to form relationships between the two countries and to compensate for wasted time,” she said.

“In my opinion, by being involved in culture and mutual cultural values, both countries will benefit from a higher security. The security is a top issue in today’s world; therefore, the mutual projects gain more value,” Popova noted.

“I believe that we should know different cultures and make them communicate. We should accept and understand them to make the security more attainable,” Popova went on to say.

The Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria also talked about her wish to travel to Iran and said, “I’m willing to meet Iranian cultured women.”

Persian New Year Re-Inscribed as UNESCO Cultural Heritage

Nowruz

“Nowruz dossier, involving seven nations, had been registered in UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in October 2009. After an incorporation proposal was made by five other nations, including Iraq, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan, this file was reedited and resubmitted to UNESCO,” said Mohammad Hassan Talebian, the Deputy Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO).

Headed by Iran, the new 12-nation Nowruz dossier was recently presented and inscribed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage at the eleventh session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from November 28 to December 2, 2016.

According to Talebian, the multi-national Nowruz dossier is UNESCO’s first and most important intergovernmental file to put together related cultural domains and to establish joint cultural associations, capacity building, education and other intergovernmental activities.

Nowruz is the biggest international file inscribed in UNESCO, aiming to maintain the nature and peace in nations linked to this tradition, according to a report by ICHTO’s website, as translated by IFP.

The New Year in Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan is celebrated on March 21st known as Nauryz, Navruz, Nawrouz, Nevruz, Nooruz, Novruz, Nowrouz or Nowruz.

For two weeks, various customs take place including a special meal, family visits, public rituals and street performances to encourage peaceful communities, shared and promoted through participation.

Iran’s Other Inscriptions at UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage

During the recent meeting in Addis Ababa, Iran’s periodic reports about Naqqali, Iranian dramatic story-telling, and traditional skills of building and sailing Iranian Lenj boats in the Persian Gulf, were also evaluated.

“We submit our periodic reports about measures taken to conserve these arts to UNESCO,” he said, adding that the above-mentioned files, registered in UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2011, require immediate protection.

Iran’s Intangible Cultural Heritage registered in UNESCO’s list include Nowruz, the Radif of Iranian music, the traditional skills of carpet weaving in Fars, Pahlavani and Zoorkhaneh rituals, Qalishuyan rituals of Mashhad-e Ardehal in Kashan, dramatic art ritual of Ta‘ziye, the traditional skills of carpet weaving in Kashan, the music of the Bakhshis of Khorasan, the traditional skills of building and sailing Iranian Lenj boats in the southern Iran, and Naqqali, the Iranian dramatic story-telling.

Iran Prepared to Promote Strategic Ties with China: FM Zarif

n3340423-5499897

Speaking in a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Zarif said Tehran and Beijing have common views on issues of global significance, saying there are no obstacles in the way of the expansion of bilateral ties.

Zarif praised Tehran-China relations as warm and strong, saying Iran is ready to align itself with China in all areas as the two nations have mutual interests and a common approach towards international affairs.

The officials billed a January visit to Iran by Chinese President Xi Jinping as historical. The two-day trip featured the signing of 17 cooperation documents.

The Chinese official, for his part, said his country supported Iran’s accession to the regional security group Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), of which the Islamic Republic is currently an observer member.

The two sides also laid emphasis on the need to fight terrorism on the global arena, Press TV reported.

They further reminded that all parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear accord signed last year between Iran on the one side, and the US, Britain, Russia, France and China plus Germany on the other, had to remain fully committed to their contractual obligations.

Wang said the JCPOA is a multilateral agreement endorsed by the UN Security Council, whose implementation should not be affected by any of those countries’ domestic developments.

He was referring to a recent US Congress vote to extend Washington’s Iran Sanctions Act (ISA), a move Tehran has slammed as a violation of the nuclear deal.

Zarif arrived in China as the second leg of an Asian tour that took him earlier to India for the 6th conference of the ‘Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process’.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Beijing on Monday, Zarif said Iran is determined to work with China as a “strategic partner.”

“We try to raise the economic relations between the two countries to a strategic level,” he added, as reported by Tasnim.

The foreign minister also pointed to his accompanying delegation as a distinguishing feature of his trip, saying it is comprised of businesspeople, entrepreneurs, and representatives from 18 knowledge-based companies.

He noted that furthering relations between the two countries was among the subjects highlighted in talks held between Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and Chinese President Xi Jinping during his trip to Tehran earlier in the year.

The Iranian top diplomat is scheduled to pay a visit to Japan after high-profile meetings in China.

Works by Famous Modern Iranian Poet Translated into Arabic

shamlou

Maryam Heydari translated a selection of poems by Ahmad Shamlou, modern Iranian poet, to Arabic. The Egyptian Public Authority for Culture Houses edited the book before publishing it in the North African country.

According to a report by IRNA, Egypt’s Al-Rai wrote this collection of poems, called “Hadiqat al-Maraya” [The Garden of Mirrors], acquaints the reader with a modern, human poetic style, devoid of red lines and barbed wires.

This was the first time that Shamlou’s poems were translated to Arabic. However, there had already been translations of his works into several other languages; to name Swedish, English, Japanese, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Armenian, Dutch, Romanian, Finnish, Kurdish and Turkish.

Shamlou was arguably the most influential modern Iranian poet. His poetry is complex; yet his imagery, which contributes significantly to the intensity of his poems, is simple.

He basically uses the traditional imagery familiar to his Iranian audience through the works of Persian masters like Hafez and Omar Khayyam.

Iran Reserves Right to Respond to US Extension of Bans Law: Nuclear Chief

d5432670-3cf6-4945-a594-2f87779486e5

Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), made the remarks in a meeting with US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz in Vienna on Sunday.

The two officials are in the Austrian capital to attend the “International Conference on Nuclear Security: Commitments and Actions,” which is to be held there under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from December 5 to 9.

Salehi further communicated Iran’s strong protest and serious concern over the congressional move, emphasizing that Tehran has the right to deliver a proportionate response.

Following in the footsteps of the House of Representatives, the US Senate recently voted to extend the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) for another 10 years.

The law, which would authorize the US president to re-impose sanctions on Iran, was first adopted in 1996 to punish investments in the Islamic Republic over its nuclear program and support for anti-Israeli resistance groups. The ISA now needs President Barack Obama’s signature to turn into law.

This is while Iran had all nuclear-related sanctions lifted on the back of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear accord it signed with the P5+1 group of countries — the US, Britain, Russia, France and China plus Germany — last year in Vienna.

Salehi further noted that Iran has been committed to the JCPOA — which obliged it to introduce limits to its nuclear activities in exchange for the sanctions relief.

The commitment, he added, has been verified by the IAEA, which monitors the JCPOA’s implementation process, urging the US to likewise honor its contractual obligations, especially by preventing the potential implementation of the ISA.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said in April that Iran had even gone beyond its obligations under the JCPOA.

For his part, Moniz said he would relay Iran’s concerns to the US commander-in-chief, saying the US government is committed to the JCPOA.

Iranian authorities have slammed the ISA’s extension as a blatant violation of the nuclear agreement, vowing proper counter-measures.

On Sunday, Iranian lawmakers urged the administration of President Hassan Rouhani to take “due retaliatory measures” against the ISA extension.

Iranian Lawmakers Preparing to Impeach Transport Minister

Train Crash in Iran

“The motion to impeach Transport Minister Mahmoud Akhoundi has been signed by 70 ministers and presented to the Parliament’s presiding board,” Nader Qazipour, an Iranian lawmaker, noted on Sunday.

According to a report by the Parliament’s Persian news website ICANA, Qazizadeh went on to say that people expect lawmakers to pursue the deaths of their beloved ones.

Meanwhile, Press TV quoted an Iranian official as saying that an operator in charge of the Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) of Shahroud railway station was responsible for the fatal collision between two passenger trains in Iran’s north-central province of Semnan.

The head of a committee investigating the train crash, Akbar Torkan, told reporters on Saturday that a train moving from the northwestern city of Tabriz to the northeastern city of Mashhad had already stopped over its brakes failure.

The deadly incident occurred when the CTC operator allowed a second train, also en route to Mashhad, to depart in the same direction, he added.

Torkan, who was assigned by Iran’s First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri to investigate the deadly train collision, emphasized that it was not an intentional fault but that a human error in practice of profession led to the disaster.

On November 25, at least 45 people lost their lives and 103 others were injured in the deadly collision of two passenger trains in Semnan.

Syria Invites Residents to Return Home in Liberated Regions of Aleppo

Syria's Aleppo

According to a report covered by Al-Alam, a statement by the Syrian army says state institutions have already begun rehabilitation programs in the north eastern parts of the city.

Hundreds of Syrian families have returned to the strategic eastern Aleppo district of Masaken Hanano, which was retaken from terrorist groups last month.

The army has managed to restore security and stability to the area, while authorities are working to provide services and utilities to the locals.

Local media say tens of Syrian families have also travelled to the liberated parts of the city in at least 10 buses moving directly from the government-held regions of the city to the recently liberated parts for the first time after the terrorist grasp on the city.

The trip started at the Razi bus stop in central Jamiliyeh neighbourhood and ended after 30 minutes in Masaken Hanano, Al-Waght reported.

“I haven’t been to my house for almost six years,” said passenger Hala Hassan Fares, adding, “Our house is totally burned, but we’re going to see my father, who is 80 years old.”

Driver Abdullah al-Ali also expressed his joy over the situation, saying, “I’m so happy for these people going back to check on their homes.”

The Syrian government forces, who are in full control of western Aleppo, have been conducting operations to purge militants from the city’s east.

Backed by Russia’s air cover, the Syrian army forces and their allies have dealt heavy blows to the militants over the past few weeks.
