Iran Welcomes Baghdad-Erbil Talks: Spokesman

In a statement on Monday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi embraced local talks between the Iraqi central government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.

“Iraqi leaders and people have, through rapport and unity, secured invaluable achievements in countering terrorism and liberating territories occupied by ISIS, and now in the new phase, through understanding and brotherhood and via constructive domestic talks, they will be able to take greater steps on the path to stability and lasting security, which are a precursor to Iraq’s reconstruction and development,” said the spokesman.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a neighbouring country and friend of Iraq, while understanding the common destiny of the regional nations, wishes success for the Iraqi government and people, and as before, would like to have very good relations with all political, social, religious and ethnic sectors in Iraq, and in the new phase, stands ready like before to share all its experiences and potential with the Iraqi government and nation to contribute to the country’s prosperity and reconstruction,” Qassemi added.

Iran Gov’t Urged to Pursue “Policy of Frowning” against US

Iran Gov’t Urged to Pursue “Policy of Frowning” against US

Iranian parliamentarians believe Iran should continue its “diplomacy of smile” and seek to enhance its engagement with the world and pay due regard to the economic diplomacy, but should also adopt a “diplomacy of frowning” vis-à-vis the United States, reports ICANA.

Parliament representative Ali Vadaye’ says the parliament floor has turned into the hub of consultations on the 12th administration. He said MPs are holding intense talks with the proposed ministers in a bid to lay out an appropriate plan for the next four years.

Both advocates and critics of President Hassan Rouhani are present in the discussions.

Supporters of the Rouhani administration say the results of the 2017 Iranian presidential election, in fact, showed voters approved of Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s diplomatic moves and the diplomacy of smile.

On the other hand, the critics of the foreign policy of the Rouhani administration argue that other factors such as political sentiments also influenced people’s votes. They say if Iran smiles too much while facing the West, it will embolden hegemonic powers. Critics also believe the Iran nuclear deal has not had many benefits for Tehran.

In response to this criticism, supporters of Zarif say economic institutions are the ones responsible for reaping the benefits of the nuclear deal.

Irrespective of all the support for, or criticism of the eleventh administration’s foreign policy, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has clearly and straightforwardly specified the path of diplomacy of the twelfth administration for the next four years. The Leader stressed the first priority should be “addressing people’s economic and livelihood problems” followed by “extensive interaction with the world” as the second priority.

Amid all dos and don’ts of the twelfth administration, reports on US President Donald Trump’s foreign policy suggest he has been ratcheting up the pressure and threats against the Rouhani administration. Now, at a time when the US president is trying to intensify the policy of Iranophobia while breaching the nuclear deal, Iranian MPs believe Tehran should adopt the “policy of frowning” in dealing with Washington.

New Requirements in Rouhani’s New Term

Lawmaker Massoud Goodarzi says a key priority of the new administration, given the Leader’s remarks, should be to boost interaction with the world.

He said Iran should expand its relations with both neighbouring countries and non-neighbors.

“The European Union has a good atmosphere for interaction with Tehran,” he said.

Need for New Programs at Foreign Ministry

Mohammad Javad Jamali Nobandegani, another lawmaker, said different programs should be pursued at the Iranian Foreign Ministry given the schemes orchestrated by Netanyahu, Trump and Bin Salman.

He noted that the enemies of Iran are seeking to isolate the country more than ever before, and leave no stone unturned to have the nuclear deal scuttled.

He also urged the new administration to do more to further increase engagement with world countries.

Domain of Iran’s Geopolitical Interests Should be Redefined

Legislator Morteza Saffari Natanzi also said the Foreign Ministry needs serious restructuring and draw up new strategies given the developments in the past four years.

“Iran’s regional power as well as its global influence has increased. In order to seize this opportunity, the diplomacy apparatus should put new plans on its agenda,” said the parliamentarian.

He also said the domain of Iran’s interests should be seriously redefined.

Regional Interactions Should Top Tehran’s Foreign Policy Agenda

Lawmaker Heshmat Falahat-Pisheh said the priority of the country’s diplomacy agenda should be to ease tensions.

“President Rouhani should pay due regard to Iran’s regional diplomacy during his second 4-year term, and promotion of engagement with neighbours, especially Persian Gulf littoral states, should be on the agenda,” he noted.

“We’ve been witnessing positive signals from Saudi Arabia and some neighbouring countries in recent days, which should be taken into consideration,” he said.

He also called on the Foreign Ministry to work towards absorbing foreign investment.

Iran Should Turn Blind Eye to Trump’s Sabre-Rattling

Mohammad Javad Kolivand, another legislator, weighed in on Washington’s ramping up its hostile moves against Iran as well as US President Donald Trump’s bellicose positions.

He said Iran should not allow its programs to be eclipsed by Washington’s bellicosity.

“We shouldn’t look to Trump to regulate our programs because he used to have a position in the domain of economy and has no understanding of diplomatic principles and international relations,” he noted.

He said the new administration should look to Ayatollah Khamenei’s guidelines for its diplomacy.

Diplomacy of Smile Should Continue

Lawmaker Abdolkarim Hosseinzadeh said Iran’s nuclear negotiating team managed to secure Iranians’ rights during intense bargaining with the P5+1 group and get the sanctions lifted.

“Iran managed to take giant steps in its foreign policy domain with the diplomacy of smile, and this approach should definitely be maintained in the 12th administration’s diplomacy arena,” he said.

He expressed hope the diplomacy apparatus will make a few tactical changes in dealing with some peripheral issues to move forward more actively.

Baghdad Mayor Tours Tehran Tourist Attractions (+Photos)

During her visit to Tehran’s District 12, Alwach visited the National Museum, Golestan Palace, Tehran bazaar, Oudlajan bazaar, and the remains of a 7,000-year-old woman discovered in southern Tehran.

After the visit, Alwach said Iran’s historical sites are ‘very attractive’ and ‘valuable’. She also referred to Tehran as an orderly and huge city with 7,000 years of history.

“One can see interesting examples of historical and valuable works in Tehran’s museums,” she went on to say, according to a Farsi report by IRNA.

Here are Tehran Picture Agency’s photos of her tour of the Iranian capital:

Mongolia Raps US Bans on Iran, Russia, N. Korea

Mongolian president’s special envoy Lundeg Purevsuren has lashed out at Washington’s sanctions on Iran, saying, “Sanctions are not good, and we condemn them.”

The Mongolian official said the recent sanctions imposed on Iran, North Korea and Russia are not friendly, adding, “We don’t recognize the US sanctions because slapping sanctions are not a good way and we denounce them.”

Speaking in a Farsi interview with ICANA, he said Iran has a history of peaceful relations with other countries, adding, “Today, Mongolia and Iran are keen to boost the level of their foreign relations.”

He said many Iranian companies are investing in Mongolia and vice versa, which means “the two states have constructive economic relations.”

The Mongolian official had travelled to Iran heading a delegation to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Hassan Rouhani.

Iraqi Shiite Cleric Travels to UAE on Private Jet

Sadr travelled on a private jet to Abu Dhabi on Sunday after being invited to make the rare visit to the Persian Gulf state, Sadr’s office said in a short statement.

The Sunday visit was the second by Sadr to the Emirates in as many months, Emirati paper The National reported. The aircraft was to fly Sadr back to Iraq upon the conclusion of the trip.

He talked with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Abu Dhabi’s crown prince, at a meeting also joined by Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and other ranking officials.

A lawmaker close to the Sadrist movement told The New Arab that Sadr was invited to visit the UAE during his trip at the end of July to Riyadh, where he was promised $10 million to help rebuild Iraq.

The Saudis also awarded special visas to members of Sadr’s office for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

The cleric met with Saudi Crown Prince and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman in the Saudi port city of Jeddah on July 30.

Sadr, who enjoys a sizable grassroots following in Iraq, has been avowing views which clash with those of the central administration and, at points, even opting for direct opposition to the ruling authorities.

Last March, he started a sit-in inside Baghdad’s Green Zone to force the government to enact certain “reforms.” His supporters have also been holding several rallies in the Iraqi capital.

Iran, India to Trade Goods on Mercantile Exchanges

Iran, India to Trade Goods on Mercantile Exchanges

Institutions monitoring the capital markets in Iran and India have signed an agreement on trading goods on the two countries’ mercantile exchanges.

The contract will make it possible to purchase and sell commodities such as tar on the mercantile exchanges of Iran and Indian.

Under the deal, Iran’s tar will be sold through a protocol on both countries’ mercantile exchanges. Moreover, the export of tar will be put on the agenda as well.

Tar is one of the strategic goods which are important for India to buy from Iran, according to a Farsi report by the Hamshahri daily newspaper.

The agreement will enable Indian buyers to purchase tar on the mercantile exchange.

Among other advantages of the deal is that it cuts out the middleman on the tar market and makes it possible for both countries to play a more transparent and active role in determining the price and quality of the product.

Deputy Director of Iran’s Securities and Exchange Organization Bahador Bijani says the recent agreement will be a key step toward promoting the objectives and joint ventures between the two countries’ mercantile exchanges.

“Given that India buys a large part of Iran’s tar, with the signature of the deal by the institutions monitoring the capital markets in Iran and India, we will play a more effective role in determining the price and added value of the product,” he said.

Senior officials from Iran’s mercantile exchange attended a conference on tar held in India recently. They discussed the details of mutual cooperation in the meetings they had. It was decided that the exchanges design a platform based on which tar could be traded directly and the middleman cut out while the quality is not affected.

Iran FM Congratulates Lebanon on Anniversary of Victory in 33-Day War

Zarif

Zarif on Monday offered his congratulations to Lebanon in separate messages to Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil and Secretary General of the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

He said in his message to Bassil, “The great victory, which was achieved as a result of the sacrifices made by the Lebanese nation’s heroic children and the national unity and solidarity of all tribes and leaders of political and popular forces, further strengthened Lebanon and its immunity to the Zionist regime’s greed and expansionism.”

The Iranian foreign minister also said in his letter to Nasrallah, “Undoubtedly, your prudence, the martyrdom-seeking spirit and the sacrifices made by the Islamic resistance fighters, along with the cooperation, perseverance, and endurance of all Lebanese people, led to this huge and sweet victory over the Zionist regime and its supporters.”

“The historic conquest and victory, along with other successes achieved by the Islamic resistance fighters including the remarkable victory in Arsal, have further disappointed the regional and international supporters of the Zionist regime,” he added.

About 1,200 Lebanese, most of them civilians, were killed in the Israeli war on Lebanon in the summer of 2006. However, Hezbollah fighters defeated the Israeli military, forcing Tel Aviv to retreat without achieving any of its objectives.

ISIS Element Burned Alive by First Wife on Wedding Night

ISIS Element Burned Alive by First Wife on Wedding Night

An informed Iraqi source in Nineveh Province has said the first wife of an ISIS terrorist has burned alive the husband, along with his newlywed second spouse, a few minutes after the end of their wedding ceremony in Tal Afar in west of the northern Iraqi province.

According to a Farsi report by Al-Alam News Network, the fire claimed the lives of both of them.

The ISIS element’s first wife, who also worked for the terrorist group, killed her husband and his second wife by setting fire on the room where they were staying at the end of their wedding ceremony.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the source told Alsumaria News TV that the ISIS has revealed the women’s name and some information about her, calling for her immediate arrest.

“The terrorist group announced that the motive for the murder was the first wife’s jealousy.”

Tal Afar has been under the control of ISIS since 2014.
