Iran Ready to Expand Cooperation with Pakistan: Rouhani

In a Thursday message, Rouhani congratulated Arif Alvi on being elected as the new president of Pakistan, saying that he is confident the two countries’ bilateral ties will grow given the resolve of top Iranian and Pakistani officials.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, as always and particularly in the new era, declares its preparedness to promote its ties and cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” Rouhani said.

He also highlighted the deep historical relations and cultural and religious commonalities between the two states, expressing the hope that a new level of Tehran-Islamabad relations would be achieved during Alvi’s presidency.

Rouhani finally wished health and success for his counterpart and prosperity and honour for the Muslim nation of Pakistan.

Pakistani lawmakers elected Alvi, a nominee from Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, to the ceremonial office of president on Tuesday, further cementing its hold on power.

Alvi will replace President Mamnoon Hussain, who completes his five-year term on September 9.

The president is elected by lawmakers from the National Assembly, the Senate and four provincial assemblies.

Tuesday’s election came two weeks after Khan, a former cricket star and longtime politician, was elected prime minister. His Tehreek-e-Insaf party won the most seats in July’s national elections and joined with independents to form a government.

Iran to Enrich Uranium beyond Previous Levels If JCPOA Fails

Kamalvandi

Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi told IRIB on Wednesday that the country “will reach even more advanced levels” of uranium enrichment if the other parties leave the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

He also noted that the country’s nuclear activities are moving forward at a favorable pace.

Back in June, the AEOI was ordered by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to promptly make preparations for enrichment of uranium up to a level of 190,000 SWU “for the time being within the framework of the JCPOA.”

In a speech on June 4, the Leader slammed European governments for expecting the Iranian nation to both tolerate sanctions and give up its nuclear activities, saying that the country cannot remain in “nuclear custody” when the sanctions are still in place.

As part of those preparations, the AEOI launched a UF6 production plant in late June in a bid to increase the country’s uranium enrichment capacity.

The plant, which had been almost inactive for the last few years, was re-opened for the production of uranium hexafluoride as a major part of the Uranium Conversion Facility (UCF) in Isfahan.

In May, US President Donald Trump declared he would withdraw his country from the nuclear deal and re-impose the sanctions that the deal had envisaged to be lifted.

Since the US’ withdrawal, European countries have been scrambling to ensure that Iran reaps enough economic benefits to convince it to stay in the deal. However, the offers made by the Europeans so far to keep Tehran in the JCPOA have yet to persuade the Iranian officials.

Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warned on Tuesday that Tehran would withdraw from the nuclear deal if the Europeans fail by November 4 to design a mechanism to safeguard Iran’s main interests, including oil sales and banking payments, in the accord.

That is the date when the second round of US sanctions against Iran will snap back, after which Araqchi said the Europeans’ efforts to save the deal would be useless.

Iran Condemns Deadly Blasts in Western Kabul

In a statement on Thursday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi censured the Wednesday blasts and sympathized with the Afghan government and nation as well as the journalism community.

The ISIS terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the twin bomb attack in Western Kabul on September 5 that killed more than 20 people.

The terrorist group said the bombers had targeted “a gathering of apostates” in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighbourhood of the Afghan capital.

More than 70 others were injured in the bombings, which targeted a wrestling club in the mostly Shiite area.

A suicide bomber blew himself up inside the club, while about 40 minutes later a car bomb went off nearby, targeting rescue workers and journalists.

Since January, there have been at least 17 attacks in Kabul that have killed at least 430 people.

Iranian Society Target of All-out Media War: Leader

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei

“Today, the Islamic Establoshment faces a full-scale economic war that is led meticulously and rigorously by a war room. But beside this war, there is a media and propaganda war that is often neglected,” Ayatollah Khamenei said on Thursday.

Speaking in a meeting with members of the Assembly of Experts, a clerical body in charge of appointing the Leader and overseeing his performance, Ayatollah Khamenei said this media war has been running for years, but it has intensified recently.

“According to our information, the US and Israeli spy agencies supported by [anti-Iran Arab leaders in the region] have created an organization for this media war and are working seriously to warp [the people’s minds],” he said.

The US has been hardening its line on Iran since President Donald Trump took power in January 2017.

Trump has pulled the US out of the nuclear deal and is working to hamper Iran’s trade with Asia and Europe through restoring anti-Iran US sanctions and pushing the world the abide by them.

US officials have threatened to destroy the Iranian economy and openly talked of the need for regime change in Iran.

Weakening Iranians’ Morale
The Leader said the psychological operation is aimed at weakening the morale of Iranians.

“Goals of this media war are creating anxiety, depression, hopelessness and a feeling of [being in a] deadlock. They are making people pessimistic towards each other and towards government organs and are exaggerating economic problems in the minds of society,” he said.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the enemies’ media propaganda are partly to blame for the decline of the value of national currency.

“… Regarding issues of decrease in the value of the national currency, the media war and [attempts by ] ill-wishers to create an atmosphere have been effective,” the Leader said.

The Leader was referring to a dramatic decline in the value of rial which has soared the prices of imported consumer goods and depressed some markets in the past few months.

This week, the value of rial against the US dollar passed 15,000 in the free market.

Do Not Exaggerate Problems
The Leader said people and dignitaries must work to deepen unity of the society and government organs and do not spread a feeling of despair.

Ayatollah Khamenei said constructive criticism aimed at correcting mistakes is welcomed, but people should be careful not to exaggerate problems.

“Exaggeration provokes anxiety among public opinion and spreads the pessimism virus in the society,” he said.

Ayatollah Khamenei said government bodies have a big role to play in spreading a feeling of confidence and hope among the people.
“A big part of efforts to create and gain trust hinges on measures by various organs,” he said.

IRGC Urges Southern Neighbours to Cooperate in Ensuring Hormuz Security

Major General Mohammad-Ali Jafari, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, made the remarks on Wednesday.

He also noted that he IRGC is the major provider of security in the two bodies of water, and that the IRGC’s Navy is fully prepared to provide security.

“Today is the day … when good wins over evil,” he said.

“The defence and security capability of the Islamic Republic of Iran is unique and known by everyone,” said the top commander.

“The country owes this power to its devoted and diligent popular, Basij, IRGC and other defence and security forces, and we should appreciate it (this power),” he said.

“The IRGC includes three specialized ground, naval and air forces in addition to the Basij (volunteer) popular resistance [forces], and given the importance of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf to the south of the country as the main route to transfer energy from the region to other parts of the world, one of the main defence areas is the naval domain,” the top commander noted.

“Through the years following the 1979 Revolution, the naval force has proved that it has been a major force to safeguard and ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf,” he noted.

The IRGC commander said the Navy’s muscle-flexing has served as a deterrent to the enemies.

Zarif Best Person to Face Trump at UNSC: Analyst

The remarks were made by Reza Nasri, a foreign policy analyst and international lawyer, in reference to a session with the topic “Iran” which is to be held at the UNSC in three weeks’ time.

“A precise text and a strong presentation by the Iranian representative to that meeting can render ineffective the propaganda campaigns launched by PR outlets at a cost of billions of dollars,” Nasri noted on Wednesday.

“The best person to do it is Dr. Zarif,” the analyst tweeted.

On his Twitter page, Zarif blasted US President Donald Trump for attempting to hijack the upcoming UN Security Council meeting during the annual gathering of world leaders to turn it to an anti-Iran event.

The top Iranian diplomat said Trump is seeking to “abuse” the presidency of the Security Council to divert a session, which has been devoted to Palestine for decades in a bid to blame Iran for the horrors the United States and its cronies have caused across the Middle East.

Zarif said the US had already violated the only UNSC resolution on Iran, referring to Resolution 2231 that endorses the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers– the US, the UK, France, China, Russia and Germany.

“There’s only one UNSC resolution on Iran. .@realDonaldTrump is violating it & bullying others to do same. Now he plans to abuse presidency of SC to divert a session—item devoted to Palestine for 70 yrs— to blame Iran for horrors US & clients have unleashed across M.E.,”

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, who assumed the presidency of the Security Council for the month of September, said Tuesday that Trump was going to chair a meeting of the 15-nation body on Iran on September 26, where he would discuss Iran’s “violations of international law.”

Trump pulled the US out of the landmark Iran nuclear deal, officially called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in May, claiming the agreement was ineffective as it failed to halt Iran’s nuclear activities and its development of ballistic missiles.

The US leader also alleged that the JCPOA had placed no limits on Iran’s activities to influence conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and other parts of the Middle East.

Since its withdrawal from the JCPOA, Washington has sought to build up international pressure on Iran by re-instating its unilateral sanctions that had been lifted under the deal.

Attractive but Pricey Idea of Designing Your House in Persian Style

It has been almost three years that the country’s handicrafts and traditional arts authority floated the idea of constructing an all-Persian house. The house was supposed to be totally designed using handicrafts and serve as a model for the arrangement of furniture in the home of newlyweds.

The plan was also aimed at incorporating handicrafts into people’s daily lives. But the point is that not everyone can afford to buy the furniture of this house.

The idea of using Persian handicrafts as the furniture of an all-Persian house first materialized at the seventh Architecture, Modern House and Interior Designing Exhibition which offered handicrafts that could be used as the furniture of residential homes and administrative buildings.

Afterwards, a 100-square-metre area of the grounds of the 28th National Handicrafts Exhibition was allotted to the Persian House Pavilion, and one complete simulated house containing everything from the bedroom to the living room to the kitchen decorated and designed with handicrafts was put on display. That was interesting to many visitors, but many people just moved away reluctantly after asking the price.

In the 29th Handicrafts Exhibition, another way of using handicrafts in everyday life was put on show, drawing a large number of visitors. But again, the prices were high.

Finally, after several models of a Persian house were showcased in handicrafts exhibits, the first such house was inaugurated at Tabriz 2018 event at a historical monument.

“This model of a Persian House is to be launched in at least 31 provinces in the country,” said a handicrafts official.

The third model of a Persian house was unveiled at the 30th Handicrafts Exhibition to better introduce the possibility of handicrafts making their way into Iranian homes.

The Persian House Pavilion was supposed to be present at the 22nd International Handicrafts Exhibition in Milan, Italy. Iran has also announced it is ready to showcase the Persian House model in South Korea.

Robot Developed to Help Patients with Spinal Cord Injuries

Scientists at Sharif University of Technology say this wearable robot, equipped with a motion-detection system, allows patients to move their hands with damage to the function of their upper limb.

Esmaeil Mohammadi, a graduate of biomechanics at Sharif University of Technology, who is the initiator of this project, says they have succeeded in implementing this project with the support of the Electronic Industries Fund.

He says the robot could be used for patients who for various reasons have been unable to move their elbow and wrist joints or have a limited range of motion.

“The robot detects the course of movement after it is worn by the patient. When the patient wants to move, the robot will continue to move. It can help patients with wrist injury (fracture, inflammatory lesions, nerve damage, joint stiffness, etc.), patients with stroke and spinal cord injury, and patients with cerebral palsy,” added Mohammadi.

The designer of the robot emphasised that it will stimulate the nerves, prevent the involved muscles from becoming lazy and, over time, increase the movement range of elbows and wrists.

For a brief review of Iran’s achievements in various fields of science and technology, check the book “Science and Technology in Iran: A Brief Review

He also mentioned that the product will be available in both “wearable” and “desktop” models.

“This product is available for research and scientific inquiries in all universities, research centres, rehabilitation centres (occupational therapy and physiotherapy), and for exercises, especially those which increase range of motion, strength, and accelerate recovery.”

The researcher further noted that he has designed the robot in two forms: “Exo Passive and Active” for wrists and elbows, and “two-channel biofeedback” devices.

“Two-channel biofeedback is a device that distinguishes skeletal muscle from the muscles which begin to contract, and shows them to the user at high speed and precision. In addition to being small and portable, this biofeedback device will also help the therapist in the diagnosis and treatment.”

Mohammadi referred to the benefits of the product saying that centres and hospitals are looking for a device that, in addition to performing passive movements, can be portable and handle active movements of the patient so that more patients can use it.

“The patient can also take the robot to his home or workplace, if needed, and can continue his/her practice consistently.”

He argued that existing foreign devices incur a very high cost for both purchase and maintenance.

“With the production of these devices, in addition to creating jobs and preventing foreign currency from leaving the country, it would be possible to compensate for the shortage of these equipment in the rehabilitation centres and provide a suitable replacement for the imported samples.”

Mohammadi said a semi-industrial sample of this product has been produced.

Physiotherapy and rehabilitation centres, hospitals, veterans and the disabled, people with cervical spinal cord injuries, and people who have suffered strokes, accident and fracture are the main customers of this product, he added.

Ash-e Doogh; Delicious Soup Popular in Iran’s Ardabil

The soup is the most famous in Ardabil and has many fans in the Azari region of the Islamic Republic. Its main ingredients are peas, rice, homemade doogh (yogurt drink), yogurt, vegetables including chives, coriander and fresh garlic leaves, etc. Some people also add meat balls to the white soup.

It is often served in cold winter days and at family gatherings at nights. It is interesting to know that many cities and villages in Iran have their own forms of Ash-e Doogh.

Ash-e Doogh; Delicious Soup Popular in Iran’s Ardabil

Ingredients:

Peas: 250 gr.

Vegetables: 700 gr.

Rice: 1 cup

Doogh: 2 litres

Salt, Pepper, Fresh chopped garlic: As much as needed

Recipe:

Put the peas in water the night before and change the water a few times. Soak the rice the night before with water and some salt.

Cook the peas in a suitable container filled with 6 cups of water. After the peas are almost cooked, add the rice and wait until it is cooked well. Be careful not to have too much water and leave space for doogh as well.

Add chopped veggies to the soup and leave the container half-open so that the vegetables do not get a dark colour. 15 minutes before the soup gets ready, add the doogh and stir constantly.

When you add the doogh, the container should be completely open so that the doogh does not undergo chemical changes. After about 15 minutes, add salt and pepper.

When serving, add fresh chopped garlic to it. In the end, pour the soup into a dish and decorate it with sautéed mint.
