Official Says Iran Will Survive COVID-19 Crisis

Iran Condemns New US Sanctions on China

In a series of tweets on Tuesday night, Rabiei said “we all have pulled ourselves together and have stood alongside each other” against the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Certainly thanks to the collective conscience which has been created in Iran we will survive the bitterness,” he added.

“Amidst the bitterness of the coronavirus I see a great many of behaviours making our life sweet, from the self-sacrifice made by nurses and NGOs coming to the battlefield to Uncle Akbar [the manager of a charity in Tehran aiding homeless people and drug addicts] who, even at the peak of the spread of the coronavirus, has not forgotten rough-sleepers,” the official added.

Trying to draw the direction which in his view the country is taking against the spread of coronavirus, Rabiei went on to say that he is assured that “till the end of the bitter coronavirus drama we will achieve a new life of collective movement thanks to being a support and refuge to each other.”

“I have the certitude that return to the values of collaboration which has been among old valuable Persian traditions will be manifested with greater strength.”

“In the post-crisis era we will experience a new healthy life which can be institutionalized and sustained. Indeed, through hygienic and health-oriented behaviour we will live a new life,” he added.

Sattari said right now 200,000 masks are being produced each day but it can be increased to 300,000.

He also reiterated that all the capacities of knowledge-based companies will be used to fight against coronavirus.

At a press conference on how to deal with coronavirus, Sattari elaborated on the support of the vice presidency for knowledge-based companies that are active in this field.

“Since the outbreak of the disease, we have taken serious measures in collaboration with the Food and Drug Organization and the board of trustees, as well as knowledge-based companies,” underlined Sattari.

He pointed out that part of the products of knowledge-based companies in this field has been mass-produced. “An example is the production of N95 and N99 masks that, with the increase of production lines, has now reached 200,000 a day.”

“With the recent investments, we hope to reach 300,000 masks a day by the end of the week.”

Sattari noted that these masks are used at hospitals.

Iran is one of the few countries that have nano-filter paper-making machines. These masks are capable of sifting particles less than three-tenths of a nanometer in diametre, and can prevent viruses from entering the masks.”

Sattari maintained the production of diagnostic kits and new therapeutic methods is also being pursued. Meanwhile, he said, the production of new drugs is being pursued in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

There are also many startups active in the field, including those which make content production and educational videos to fight the virus, he continued.

Sattari said the vice presidency would use all the capacities of scientific departments and companies and to reduce the prevalence of the disease.

He finally thanked all those who are working in this field and expressed hope that the country could overcome this problem soon.

Spokesman Outlines Foreign Ministry’s Moves in Coronavirus Fight

Spokesman Outlines Foreign Ministry’s Moves in Coronavirus Fight

In comments on Tuesday, Mousavi answered questions from reporters about the measures the Foreign Ministry has taken to get cooperation and assistance from the other countries and international organizations in providing the supplies necessary for the battle with the coronavirus in the country.

“After the Ministry of Health and Medical Education authorities announced and confirmed that the coronavirus has broken out in our country, Dr. (Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad) Zarif established a framework for the efforts to minimize the adverse economic, social and political effects of the coronavirus spread, and, accordingly, all relevant sections of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our country’s Embassies were activated in this regard,” the spokesperson noted.

“In relation to the issue, holding of a briefing and question-and-answer session at the Foreign Ministry was put on the agenda, attended by all foreign ambassadors residing in Iran and representatives of the international institutions in Iran including the World Health Organization and the representatives of the Health Ministry,” he added.

“In that meeting, the World Health Organization’s envoy described Iran’s capability and performance (in controlling coronavirus) as an exemplary example. Moreover, the WHO authorities in Geneva have also mentioned Iran’s basic capabilities to manage the crisis and our country’s proven record of successful management of the previous crises threatening the global health and hygiene,” the Iranian spokesman stated.

Asked about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ role in supplying the Health Ministry’s demands from the other countries and international organizations, Mousavi said, “One of the primary measures by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was to present a unified list of the country’s preventive and medical needs to contain coronavirus to the United Nations, the relevant international institutions, the resident ambassadors, and the Iranian missions abroad in order to maximize the potential of the international aids.”

As a result, Iran has received very helpful aids from the World Health Organization, including a large consignment that was shipped to Iran on Monday, March 2, with a flight operated by the United Arab Emirates, the spokesman stated.

He also noted that Iran has received medical supplies from the UNICEF, China, Turkey, and Austria, adding that the assistance provided by Germany, the UK and France has also arrived in Iran on Tuesday morning.

According to the spokesperson, a remarkable number of other countries are also considering the list of Iran’s needs and delivering aids.

Separate financial assistance has been also offered by Germany, France and the UK which would be given to Iran through channels of the relevant international organizations, he added.

“These aids will complement the constant and effectual efforts made by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s administration and the Ministry of Health and Medical Education to control the situation,” Mousavi noted.

The spokesperson expressed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s gratitude for the recent humanitarian assistance, stressing that effective battle against the outbreak of coronavirus requires efficient international cooperation.

Asked about the limitations placed on the fulfillment of the country’s demands under the unilateral and cruel sanctions imposed by the US regime, Mousavi said, “The conditions created by the outbreak of coronavirus in the country have further laid bare the negative impacts of the US’ illegal sanctions on the people of Iran, particularly on the vulnerable groups, before the eyes of the global community, the European countries in particular.”

Asked about any other measures being pursued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address the issue, the spokesman stated, “Various political activities, including the contacts that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the managers of the Ministry, and the Iranian missions abroad make with their counterparts and with the relevant bilateral and international institutions, are among the other measures that are being pursued in order to attract medical and health assistance, get consular cooperation concerning the travels by the Iranian and foreign nationals, and to remove the border and trade restrictions by taking the precautionary health measures into consideration.”

“In this regard, a number of the border (crossings) between our country and the neighbors have resumed their activities, and, God willing, the situation will move towards normalization faster after the other countries make sure that the high standards of health and safety are met across the country,” added Mousavi.

Moreover, an extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Economic Relations Coordination Headquarters was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to examine the problems in the trade exchanges with the neighboring countries in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

In the meeting, the representatives of the Iranian ministries and executive organizations as well as the private sector praised the Ministry of Health and Medical Education for its efforts and measures to fight against the coronavirus epidemic. They also examined the latest activities for allaying the concerns of Iran’s foreign trade partners and made a series of decisions to facilitate the cross-border travels and the trade interaction with the neighboring countries.

Mousavi finally unveiled plans for consultations between the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs and a number of his European counterparts about the coronavirus outbreak, noting that consultations will be also held with the European Commission in order to take advantage of its capabilities to handle the issue.

Ayatollah Khamenei Urges Close Cooperation with Health Ministry in Battle with COVID-19

Ayatollah Khamenei Urges Close Cooperation with Health Ministry in Battle with COVID-19

۷In comments after planting two saplings in a ceremony to mark the national Week of Natural Resources and Arbour Day on Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei once again praised the Iranian physicians, nurses and healthcare personnel for their efforts in the wake of outbreak of the novel coronavirus in Iran.

Lauding the devotion to duty shown by the Iranian medial staff, the Leader said the exemplary efforts made by the doctors and nurses in helping the patients signify the true sense of responsibility and humanitarian commitment.

Ayatollah Khamenei then emphasized that the recommendations and instructions provided by the health authorities for preventing and containing coronavirus infection must be followed strictly, adding, “These orders must not be ignored, because God has obliged us to feel responsible for the health of ourselves and the others.”

Whatever contributes to the health of the society and prevents the spread of coronavirus is a merit and whatever results in the spread of the diseases is a sin, the Leader noted.

Ayatollah Khamenei also advised the whole Iranian organizations to cooperate with the Health Ministry, which he said is at the forefront of the war on coronavirus, and provide the ministry with whatever facilities necessary, adding, “The Armed Forces and the organizations affiliated with the Leader’s Office have been also ordered to do that job.”

The Leader also noted that while many countries in the world are grappling with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the Iranian officials have publicized the news of the disease with “clearness, sincerity and transparency” since the first day of outbreak of the disease in Iran, but “some other countries in which the disease is more severe and prevalent are hiding the truth.”

Ayatollah Khamenei then noted that although the coronavirus outbreak is not a trivial issue, it should not be exaggerated, because it is a “transient, not extraordinary” problem.

“This problem will be in the country for a not-too-long period, and will then go away, but the experiences from it and the activities of people and organizations which are similar to a general war game could remain as an achievement,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.

The Leader finally lauded the praiseworthy and philanthropic moves by the Iranian citizens in providing financial assistance or handing out medical supplies amid the outbreak of the coronavirus, saying that keeping such values will turn the disasters and threats into an opportunity.
