Iran to Use Artificial Intelligence in Diagnosing COVID-19

Iran to Use Artificial Intelligence in Diagnosing COVID-19

Referring to the ability of knowledge-based companies to produce corona detection kits and medical equipment and prevent the spread of the virus in the country, Sorena Sattari said the activities of various research companies and universities operating in the field of biotech have now led to the production of coronavirus testing kits.

He made the comments during a ceremony to unveil the smart system to diagnose COVID-19 pandemic stressing that two knowledge-based companies are currently working on the Corona testing kits and have delivered 250,000 kits.

These companies have the capacity to produce 100,000 kits per week, he said on Saturday.

In addition, another company is approved to produce the Coronavirus diagnostic kits. With the steps taken so far, hopefully the country will no longer need to import kits, underlined Sattari.

Talking about the production of anti-corona equipment, the Vice President for Science and Technology announced the presence of two knowledge-based companies in the field of ventilator production, and that the researchers at these companies have been able to produce these devices to meet the needs of hospitals.

He said the device could turn an ordinary bed into an ICU bed.

“Currently, the problem of many companies is the production of these ventilators. With the entry of knowledge-based companies into this field, the country’s needs have been met while these devices are offered at a low price.”

Referring to the production of masks needed by the country, Sattari said, at the beginning of the virus outbreak, mask production was difficult, so knowledge-based companies began to produce this product to meet the country’s needs.

According to him, during the outbreak of corona, the production of masks increased more than four times, which of course must have increased dozens of times more to meet the needs of the region in addition to the needs of the country.

The Vice President for Science and Technology also gave details of the efforts of knowledge-based companies in the field of drug production to treat patients with the coronavirus, stressing that these companies are working hard on drug protocols for the treatment of COVID-19.

“Clinical trials are currently being conducted by researchers at these companies, and the good thing is that we no longer need to import equipment to fight corona, and shortages have been addressed by knowledge-based companies,” continued Sattari.

Underscoring that knowledge-based companies are at the forefront of the fight against the unknown coronavirus, Sattari expressed hope that the country works with these companies so that no one would be left behind hospital doors.

“Few countries in the world have been able to work coordinately to fight Corona, but in Iran it has been achieved as a result of the country’s investment in various areas of health, technology and innovation.”

Referring to the achievements of other researchers in the field of artificial intelligence, he said, so far, knowledge-based companies have entered the field of production of diagnostic kits, but several companies have been able to use artificial intelligence and new technologies to diagnose COVID-19.

“This is the result of the advancement of knowledge-based companies in the field of artificial intelligence,” Sattari said.

“Now this company is able to run a system with high accuracy to diagnose the coronavirus using a CT scan device. This system can be used in many hospitals.”

At the ceremony, Head of Headquarters to Fight Coronavirus in Tehran, Dr Alireza Zaali, hailed the support of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology for companies active in the field adding that these achievements would have not been possible without the support of the Vice Presidency.

He said the use of CT scans is the best screening method for patients with the Coronavirus because within minutes, it can determined whether they are infected with the coronavirus.

Zali also stressed the use of this system has the highest degree of effectiveness in diagnosis and will make the work of doctors easier.

“The use of diagnostic tools must be highly accurate, and the system unveiled today has an unparalleled potential to be used globally.”

Talking about the benefits of using this system, Zali maintained this system can be used in the regions there are no doctors or radiologists to examine the patients.

Sanctions Crippling Iran’s Fight against COVID-19: Tehran Mayor on Guardian

Sanctions Crippling Iran's Fight against COVID-19: Tehran Mayor on Guardian

“As mayor of Tehran I have seen lives lost as a result of medical shortages. This is no time for vindictive politics,” Hanachi wrote in the article published on Saturday, April 4, 2020.

What follows is the full text of his piece:

o many of us urban administrators in Iran, the onslaught of coronavirus has underscored an important fact of life: no town, city or nation can be indifferent to global crises, even in far-flung corners of our world.

Indeed, while the mantra of good governance over the past century has been to “think global, act local”, we must today think and act both locally and globally.

Unfortunately, the small-mindedness that has dominated the politics of various countries in past years has not dissipated. Rather, those who have aggressively advocated pursuit of narrowly defined “national interests” at any cost are doubling down. The consequences of this posturing are many.

In Iran, urban administrators are left facing an unprecedented public health crisis. Figures show that 3,160 had died from the disease by 2 April and there are more than 50,000 cases of infection. The rate of infections is not yet slowing, and many of them are in Tehran, the city of which I am mayor.

Doubtless there are things that we could do differently, like every country in the world. But we are operating against the backdrop of the most extreme sanctions regime in history. The US embargo not only prohibits American companies and individuals from conducting lawful trade with Iranian counterparts, but given that the sanctions are extra-territorial, all other countries and companies are also bullied into refraining from doing legitimate business with Iranians, even the selling of medicines.

As a result, the ability of my colleagues and I to provide the health, logistical and other essential infrastructure necessary to combat the disease has been drastically reduced. We experience this loss every day, and it can be counted in people that would not have died.

This unjust treatment of Iran has come about via the policies of one country – the United States – whose ruling administration does not seem to prioritise even its own national interests, but instead the narrow interests of a governing party. The outcome of such irresponsible policies and behaviour is not limited to Iran; they have also inflicted harm on the American public.

Indeed, the Donald Trump administration’s refusal to halt its economic warfare against Iran is directly impeding our efforts to deal with a virus which knows no borders. Is it in the US’s national interest for the coronavirus pandemic to become permanent?

In order to better confront these new global crises, there is a need for politicians to realise that the path to pursuing national interests is not separate or contrary to that of global interests and international accountability.

Of equal importance, it must be recognised that as long as the general consensus in international politics does not actively move toward reducing injustice and inequality beyond national and racial boundaries, global crises will continue to indiscriminately endanger every country in the world.

The world cannot go on like this. If global leaders fail to seize the opportunity to embrace change, we will all continue to remain highly vulnerable to communicable diseases, environmental catastrophes, global warming, terrorism, violent extremism and other shared threats.

Iran Records Highest Number of COVID-19 Deaths in 24 Hours

Iran Makes Wearing Masks in Public Places Obligatory as of July 5

The new fatalities increase the death toll to 3,452, said Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour on Saturday.

At the same period of time (Friday noon to Saturday noon), Iran also had the highest number of patients discharged from the hospital after full recovery. According to Jahanpour, 1,801 patients recovered in 24 hours, increasing the total number of recoveries to 19,736.

The number of new infections also dropped for the sixth day in a row. The spokesman said 2,560 new cases were confirmed in 24 hours, raising the total number to 55,743.
He said 4,103 of the patients are in severe conditions right now.
The spokesman also called on all Iranians to take the self-assessment online coronavirus test.

Iran President Unveils ‘Smart Distancing’ Plan to Fight COVID-19

Iran’s President

Speaking at a Saturday meeting of the National Headquarters to Fight the Coronavirus, President Rouhani said the country seeks to follow up on its existing physical distancing plan with a new “smart distancing” initiative to curb the outbreak of COVID-19.

He noted that the first and second phases of the physical distancing plan had attained “good achievements”.

“Currently, we are in the third phase which consists of smart distancing; its specifications have to be laid out,” President Rouhani said.

The president called on the chairpersons of committees of the Coronavirus Fight National Headquarters to assess the situation carefully and make decisions about the details of the new plan.

Varied and extensive protocols for the fight against the coronavirus should be defined carefully in all fields, proportional to various businesses, for the reopening period after making sure that following the previous stages, the conditions have been stabilized, he emphasized.

The president underlined that the new health protocols for smart social distancing should be devised in such a way that all people in various sectors may rest assured that their health would be protected with a high degree of confidence by observing the protocols if they get out of the house or work.

On Tuesday, Rouhani extended social distancing measures until April 8 to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus across the country.

Kazem Gharibabadi said following consultations between the two sides, the International Atomic Energy Agency decided to send two RT-PCRs to Iran.

“In addition to these two devices, personal protective equipment for users of the device, equipment for setting up and upgrading and calibration, and special detection kits that use three techniques will also be sent,” he noted.

The RT-PCR is used in research laboratories to study gene expression. It can be used clinically to diagnose genetic diseases and monitor drug therapy.

US Finger-Pointing at Iran Knows No Bounds: Iran UN Envoy

‘King Salman Pins Blame on Iran to Cover Up Riyadh Dark Record’

“The US administration’s Iran-bashing is limitless,” said Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi in a tweet.

He added the White House is also pressing ahead with its rumour-mongering against Iran.

“While the world focuses on cooperation to defeat #COVID19 — and calls on US to lift its #economicterrorism— [US Secretary of State] @SecPompeo disregards this and instead spreads disinformation: this time against Iranian diplomats,” he added.
His remarks came in reaction to a tweet by Pompeo, in which he accused Iranian diplomats of being involved in an assassination in Turkey.

The US’ psychological war against the Islamic Republic comes as the country is fighting against the novel coronavirus under the cruel sanctions imposed by the United States.
On Friday, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN office in Geneva Esmaeil Baqaei Hamaneh wrote a letter to Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to warn that medical sanctions by the United States government against the Islamic Republic amount to an “unprecedented threat” to global public health.

Imposition of the cruel and illegal sanctions on Iran, which has resulted in the ordinary Iranian people being denied access to medicine and medical equipment and services, clearly exemplifies a crime against humanity, he said in the letter.

Iranian MPs-Elect Vow to Work Towards Boosting Domestic Production

Iranian MPs-Elect Vow to Work Towards Boosting Domestic Production

In a letter to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, 182 elected MPs expressed their readiness to work towards realization of the “Jump in Production” motto, a rubric chosen by the Leader as the name of the Persian New Year 1399 starting March 20, 2020.

Signatories to the letter have given assurances that they will tap into all expert potential at the 11th parliament to remove hurdles to national economy and try their utmost to utilize all legislative and supervisory potential available to them to eliminate impediments to domestic production and channel cash flow into the production sector.

The MPs also undertook to rectify the structure of the national budget while passing the budget bill without being swayed by political considerations.

“Today, thanks to the macro-policies adopted by Your Excellency, the threat of economic sanctions has turned into a historic opportunity for carrying our structural reforms in Iran’s economy,” they said.

The MPs reiterated that they will also tap into the potentialities of other branches of government to further strengthen the country’s economy:

Fresh Waves of Coronavirus Infection Could Hit Tehran: Official

Fresh Waves of Coronavirus Infection Could Hit Tehran: Official

“We may still see new waves of the coronavirus outbreak in Tehran,” said Alireza Zali.
He also highlighted the national screening program which is also being implemented in the capital.

He said the screening plan will help identify cases with slight symptoms without them having to go to hospitals for diagnosis.

He said medical personnel have been offering invaluable services, adding, “The more time passes since the outbreak of the disease, the more experience health staff will gain.”

So far nearly 70 million Iranians have been screened for the novel Coronavirus as part of the national mobilization plan.

Over 100 Shipments of Goods Needed to Counter COVID-19 Cleared at Tehran Airport

“Despite Nowruz holidays, the Customs Office of the Imam Khomeini International Airport cleared hygienic items and medications sent in to fight the coronavirus in the shortest time possible and with the minimum paperwork by the customs personnel working 24/7,”

Saeid Saffari Taheri, the customs chief at the airport.

The goods include machinery used to produce three-layer face masks.

“Producers of the machinery say it is capable of turning out 100,000 to 200,000 three-layer masks per day,” he said.

“Since the beginning of the time the national campaign against the coronavirus was enforced, a considerable number of medications, hygienic items and equipment used to counter the coronavirus have been sent in via the Imam Khomeini Airport’s customs,” he added.

“The supplies have been taken to the intended centres nonstop in cooperation with relevant organizations, and the trend continues,” he said.
