Iran Condemns German Ban on Lebanon’s Hezbollah

Iran Condemns German Ban on Lebanon’s Hezbollah

In a statement on Thursday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi vehemently condemned the German government’s move to accuse the Lebanese Hezbollah of “promoting armed struggle with terrorist means.”

“It appears that certain countries in Europe are adopting their stances without considering the realities in the West Asia region and by paying regard only to the objectives of the propaganda machine of the Zionist regime and the confused US regime,” Mousavi added.

“The German government’s decision has been made with a complete disrespect for the Lebanese government and nation, as Hezbollah is an official and legitimate part of that country’s government and Parliament, and has always been an influential political party in the arena of creating political stability in that country,” he said, adding that Hezbollah enjoys massive popular backing in Lebanon and in the region.

“The German government’s decision has been also made with utter imprudence against a force that has had and still has a key role in the fight against the violent terrorism of Daesh (ISIS) in the region. The German government, therefore, must be held accountable for the negative consequences of its decision for the fight against the true terrorist groups in the region,” Mousavi concluded.

The statement came after Germany designated the Lebanese Hezbollah a terror organization, banned all of its activities in the European country and ordered raids on sites linked to the Lebanese group.

The German police have raided four mosques and cultural associations linked with Hezbollah, as well as private homes of the Lebanese group’s board members, treasurers and tax advisers.

Minister Reports Big Rise in Daily Production of Masks in Iran

Daily Production of Masks in Iran

In remarks during a one-day visit to the northwestern city of Tabriz on Thursday, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Reza Rahmani said Iran was producing some 200,000 face masks before the outbreak of coronavirus, while the output has now reached 6 million masks per day thanks to the efforts made by the production plants and the popular groups.

The minister also paid a visit to a plant producing sanitary and medical masks at a sports center, staffed by female volunteers.

During the visit, Rahmani praised the Basij forces for offering voluntary service in all emergencies, noting that the promotion of the culture of altruism and creativeness in Iran has thwarted the hostile plots.

While the enemies were focusing on false reports about a shortage of basic commodities and medical supplies in Iran after the outbreak of coronavirus, such vicious plots were thwarted through good arrangement, cooperation from the society, and the supply of all necessary commodities, the minister noted.

Rahmani also stated that the ground has been prepared for exporting face masks and other medical supplies to the other countries.

If you are worried that you may have contracted the Coronavirus, take this test right now.

Apart from the domestic factories that are producing detergents, at least 40 industrial plants have begun to produce disinfectants in Iran, he noted, adding, “At present, there is no shortage of basic and health commodities, and the country’s industries are prepared to export hygienic products to the neighboring countries and the other parts of the world.”

Iranian, Cuban FMs Discuss Cooperation against COVID-19

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Cuban counterpart Bruno Eduardo Rodriguez Parrilla held a telephone conversation on Thursday evening.

The two senior diplomats talked about the latest developments in the bilateral relations between Tehran and Havana, the unilateral and illegal sanctions that the US has imposed on the independent nations, and the scientific and medical cooperation between Iran and Cuba, particularly in the fight against the novel coronavirus.

Iran Refutes US Religious Freedom Report

Iran Vows Appropriate Response to US Interception of Mahan Air Flight

In a statement on Thursday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi decried the annual report on “religious freedom in the world” released by the US Department of State, saying, “This report has made bogus and baseless claims about our country, particularly about the status of Jewish people in Iran, which do not apply to any of the legal and official faiths in the Islamic Republic of Iran and are rejected.”

“The US government has once again repeated the baseless and undocumented allegations about the status of religious freedom in the Islamic Republic of Iran in a new report, while the contents of this report reveal the lack of a proper understanding of the situation of Iran in this regard, and clearly reveals that invalid and anti-Iranian information and sources have been used to prepare it.”

Mousavi also dismissed the unrealistic and biased allegations raised in the report, slammed the release of the report as interference in the internal affairs of the other countries, and condemned such interventionist behavior of the US.

Such brazen acts of interference in the domestic affairs of the countries and the release of superficial reports against them take place while millions of indigent and homeless people in various cities of the US are living below the poverty line and are deprived of the basic rights or medical and health services, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson added, noting that such conditions in the US have turned deplorable and catastrophic under the shadow of the pervasive and terrible crisis of coronavirus outbreak in that country and have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of American citizens.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always respected the rights of religious minorities within the framework of its Constitution, and those religious minorities have been fully enjoying the whole citizenship rights, particularly the political participation in the country’s processes and the free exercise of their religions, Mousavi underlined.

“Since ancient times, Iran has embodied a diversified and miscellaneous society involving pure religions, cultures and languages, who have chosen this territory as a place and haven for their social, cultural and economic life since thousands of years ago, and also today, the people of Iran are still feeling the sweetness of such variety and beauty regardless of their religion, language and faith,” the Iranian spokesman emphasized.

Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant Gets Refueled

Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant Gets Refueled

The shipment of nuclear fuel was delivered to the Bushehr nuclear power plant on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.

The fresh fuel would be loaded into the reactor of Bushehr nuclear power station according to an annual refueling plan, so that the only nuclear power plant in Iran and the Middle East will continue to supply 1,000 megawatt of clean and reliable electricity to the national grid, the AEOI announced.

Despite the difficulties and restrictions caused by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the nuclear cooperation and interaction between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation is going on in compliance with the health protocols and according to the plans.

The continuation of valuable nuclear activities in the Bushehr nuclear power plant complex, including the generation of sustainable nuclear power and the construction of new nuclear power plants, reveals the Islamic Republic of Iran’s steadfastness in the face of the cruel Western sanctions, the constant and peaceful cooperation with the holders of nuclear technology, and the capabilities of the Iranian nuclear industry experts.

Electricity generation at Bushehr nuclear power plant has been shut down since April 12 for annual fuel reloading, inspection, and periodic maintenance.

Over 75,000 Patients Recover from COVID-19 in Iran

Over 75,000 Patients Recover from COVID-19 in Iran

Speaking in his daily briefing on Thursday, Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour confirmed 983 new cases of COVID-19 infection.

That brings to 94,640 the total number of cases confirmed so far across the country, he said.

According to the spokesman, 71 patients have died of the virus in the past 24 hours, increasing the death toll to 6,028.

2,976 patients are also in severe conditions of the disease, he noted.

So far, 463,295 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the Islamic Republic, Jahanpour added.

Knowledge-Based Firms Instrumental in Fighting COVID-19: Iran

Knowledge-Based Firms Instrumental in Fighting COVID-19: Iran

Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari has, in an interview with Fars New Agency (FNA), weighed in on the achievements of local knowledge-based companies in fighting the coronavirus outbreak. The highlights of the interview follow:

Q: Knowledge-based companies were trying to produce vaccines for coronavirus. Where have they got?
A: Knowledge-based firms have, so far, signed contracts for the production of 6 types of vaccines. By the end of this year, 5 human vaccines will be added to the country’s drug production cycle. This is the first time that Iran’s private sector has stepped into the domain of vaccine production.

Q: Knowledge-based companies also shone well in the field of diagnosis kits.
A: We have several kits in the domain of coronavirus diagnosis. The kits have been domestically developed and are approved. A letter has been sent to the health minister and we have received the permit to export kits. It’s been weeks that serology kits have been mass-produced and are being used by different centres. We produce enough kits to meet the health ministry’s demand.

Now, some one million coronavirus testing kits are produced every day. Reaching such a high figure comes on the back of efforts by knowledge-based companies. These tests are conducted based on blood samples.

We don’t have any special problems in the production of masks and disinfectants, either.
Among other measures adopted is developments in the domain of artificial intelligence. The Sharif University of Technology has developed a method whereby it can analyze CT scan images to tell, with 97 to 99 percent accuracy, if a person has contracted the coronavirus.

Q: We have ventilators made in Iran. How is their quality compared to that of ventilators made in foreign countries?
A: There are two knowledge-based companies in Iran which make this apparatus and have even exported ventilators to Britain and Sweden, and also meet the country’s demand for the product.

Q: One of the requirements to fight the coronavirus is masks. What have we done in this regard?
A: Another activity which has been done is the production of N95 masks. This mask is very similar to an ordinary one, but its filtering system is based on natotechnology. This mask absorbs more than 95 percent of contaminants which are 10 micron in size.

Today, 56 knowledge-based companies produce masks. Moreover, we manufacture mask-producing machines and even export them.

Q: What have we done in the domain of medicine?
A: Only one week into the coronavirus outbreak, Iranian companies began producing drugs similar to the ones produced abroad. Now, the length of time that coronavirus patients need to recover has decreased by 5 days using Iranian-made drugs.

Knowledge-based companies have done very well in fighting the coronavirus. These companies have been very active in studying the nature and identifying the genetic basis of the virus, and have achieved good results, too.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country, a scientific committee was set up at the National Coronavirus Headquarters. It should also be mentioned that individuals themselves contributed heavily to the activities of knowledge-based companies.

Iran Says Many Hospital Beds Free as COVID-19 Patients Recover

Iran Says Many Hospital Beds Free as COVID-19 Patients Recover

President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday expressed content with the declining number of COVID-19 infections in the country.

“I was seeing the figures last night and I got very happy because they are dropping, i.e., the number of infected cases and those hospitalized is falling,” said the president.

He also noted more and more patients are recovering, expressing hope more hospital beds will become empty in the future.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said economic activity has resumed while taking the necessary precautions and observing health protocols.

He said many of those who had registered for unemployment benefits have now returned to work, which is good news.
