President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday if there is a need for certain gatherings to be held, they must be held on a very limited scale.

“Now it is not a time to hold festivals and seminars,” he stressed in a meeting of the Headquarters of Fight against Coronavirus.

The president urged all businesses to conform to health directives issued with regards to the coronavirus outbreak.

“Businesses and economic activities may continue only with full compliance with health protocols; there is no second way,” he said.

The president underlined that Iranian researchers keep working to develop a vaccine for the virus.

“Our scientists are trying to produce the necessary medicines and a vaccine for the disease caused by coronavirus,” said the president.

The antique objects had been illegally taken out of Iran by profiteers and smuggled into Austria.

The antiquities were delivered to the Iranian representative in Austria on July 9, 2020 under a judicial cooperation agreement between the two countries with the cooperation of Iran and Austria’s Interpol offices.

Present at the ceremony were top Vienna police officials as well as the Iranian representative, who expressed gratitude to Austria’s police and prosecutor’s office for their cooperation in discovering and returning the antique items.

He said the cooperation was a sign of deep-rooted historical and cultural relations between the two countries, calling for expansion of those ties.

The artifacts will be returned to Iran as soon as possible.

Majid Takht Ravanchi said the crime makes the US government internationally responsible for it.

“The United States’ killing of General Soleimani and his companions is seen as a criminal terrorist act by any standard,” said the Iranian envoy in a letter to UN Secretary General António Guterres and the chairperson of the UN Security Council.

“In recent years and in line with the commitments of the Islamic Republic of Iran and UN Security Council resolutions on fighting terrorism, martyr Soleimani had a key role in helping the people and governments of some regional countries, at their own request, in defeating the most dangerous terror groups such as ISIS and other groups designated as terror groups by they UN Security Council,” he said.

“The officials of the said countries had also overwhelmingly and repeatedly admitted that martyr Soleimani had taken action [in fighting terrorists],” said Iran’s ambassador to the UN.
He said the terrorist act of assassinating general Soleimani was committed upon direct orders by US President Donald Trump, saying the move was a blatant violation of the principles of international laws, especially the principles stipulated in the UN Charter.

“This illegal and, at the same time, adventurous move by the US reveals that Washington’s claim of fighting terrorists is a hollow one. In fact, the United States is fighting those who are combating terrorists,” he noted.

“This hypocritical policy which runs counter to the United States’ international commitments in fighting terrorism, including those under UN Security Council resolutions, seriously undermines regional and international efforts in the war on international terrorism,” he said.

Takht Ravanchi said the designation part of a government’s military as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization” is in breach of the principles of international law and the UN Charter, including the principle of equality of sovereignty of governments, and can, by no means, be regarded as a pretext to use threat or force against them, including in other countries’ territories.

He roundly rejected all unfounded arguments by US officials to justify the criminal assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and categorically condemned that “heinous crime.’

“The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves every right under international law to adopt the necessary measures to safeguard its innate right to legitimate defence,” he said.

“This very provocative move by the United States was made to increase tension in the region up to point where it would get out of control, and obviously this country should accept full responsibility for all its consequences,” said the ambassador.

“In the meantime, the UN Security Council should discharge its responsibility and condemn this illegal criminal act given the grave repercussions of this dangerous military adventurism of the US for international peace and security,” he noted.

“I should emphasize that the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially the Qods Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), which have always been at the forefront of the campaign against terrorism and extremism in the region, are, in line with the international obligations and rights of the Islamic Republic of Iran, set to decisively follow in the footsteps of martyr Lieutenant General Qassem Soliemain in fighting terrorist groups in the region until they are fully eradicated,” he noted.

China Only Country Officially Buying Oil from Iran: Deputy FM

Gholam-Reza Ansari, the deputy Iranian foreign minister for economic affairs, says Tehran sells its oil to other countries as well using its own methods.

“We circumvent sanctions and sell our petroleum to different countries, but China is the only country which officially buys oil from us,” he said in a televised interview on Thursday night.

“Basically, the policy of the US and Britain – generally the Anglo-Saxons – is to focus on pressuring Iran, especially when with regards to its relations with the East, including with Russia, China and Eastern countries,” he said.

The official underlined the Americans are concentrating on “putting pressure on Sino-Iranian ties.”

“Both on the political and economic fronts, the Chinese have been very good defenders of Iran. In the last meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), China and Russia were the two countries which voted ‘no’ to the agency’s resolution,” he said.

The deputy foreign minister said China and Russia defended Iran on different occasions related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“In the nuclear issue, these two countries supported Iran. Relations between China and Iran are very outstanding. Cooperation between the two countries was very noticeable with regards to the coronavirus pandemic,” he noted.

“When China was gripped by this disease, Iran provided China with very good assistance, and, in turn, when Iran was hit by the virus, the Chinese offered very good help. They sent us more than 50 aid shipments at a very sensitive juncture,” he said.

“It is interesting that the Americans pursue the policy of pressuring China in the Corona virus issue, and the same policy was pretty obvious with regards to the Hong Kong issue, and, in this regard, Britain was in cahoots with the US with regards to pressuring China as an independent country,” the official underlined.

“So, the US puts political pressure on China under any pretext, and one of the issues to which the State Department spokesman reacted recently was Iran-China strategic relations,” he said.

He noted Iran will not forget the care and attention of a country which is officially buying oil form the Islamic Republic today, no matter how small the amount of purchased oil is.

He described Tehran-Beijing relations as very significant, saying Iran is determined to move forward with this cooperation.

Ansari also touched upon the reaction of the US State Department’s spokesperson to the Iran-China Comprehensive 25-year plan, saying Washington, ironically enough, claimed it was concerned that the cooperation plan might be detrimental to Iran’s interests.

“This is ridiculous,” he said.

He also dismissed as absurd the allegation that Iran is to hand over its Kish Island to China under the deal.

In a statement on Thursday, Mousavi referred to the US officials’ defence of assassinating the top Iranian commander, saying it is nothing new for professional criminals to try to justify their atrocities.

However, he added, it is a source of regret and indicative of America’s arrogant nature to see their rude reaction to the UN and its rapporteur who has described as “unlawful” the US move to assassinate General Soleimani as part of her official mission.

“General Soleimani was the most influential force against expansion of terrorism and violent extremism, especially the type staged by ISIS, across the region and the world; therefore, it is quite normal to see that the US regime – whose incumbent president has played the key role in the formation and expansion of wild terrorist movements in West Asia – does not stop its hate speech against and defamation of the top commander,” Mousavi said.

“All of these points indicate that the US’ regime’s fear of General Soleimani’s ethos and cause has even grown bigger compared to the time when the hero was alive,” he added.

“Assassination of this national hero and defender of regional peace and security proved that [fighting] ISIS and terrorism is [only] part of the US’ ploy for plundering the region, and that Washington’s claim of fighting terrorism is a completely hollow and baseless claim,” Mousavi said.

“This explains why ISIS was the first to celebrate the assassination, and of course the Zionist regime was the only entity that offered congratulations to the murderers of General Soleimani on his assassination.”

“The fact that the cruelest people on earth and the worst outlaw regimes were General Soleimani’s enemies is enough to prove how great he was,” he added.

“The US assassinated General Soleimani and his companions by violating the compelling norms and fundamental principles of the international law and also in violation of all fundamental humanitarian and moral elements. The act is a clear instance of state-sponsored terrorism, and entails clear international responsibility for America.”

Mousavi said the US’ assassination of General Soleimani is yet another item in the long list of Washington’s evil and hostile moves against the Iranian nation, which started with the 1953 coup, continued with the strengthening of the oppressive and violent monarchy, went on in the form of all-out support for Saddam during the 1980s war, culminated in the slaughter of 300 passengers of the Airbus flight, and has continued up to now in various forms including the imposition of cruel sanctions and economic terrorism.

The spokesman finally called on the United Nations and its Human Rights Council to do their part in addressing and condemning such dangerous measures as the one taken by Washington, which clearly violate the UN Charter, human rights, and the international law.

The UN and its Human Rights Council are expected to prevent normalization of bullying, unlawfulness, and organized manslaughter by the US’ regime, Mousavi said.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will spare no effort in demanding justice and claiming its rights and those of its citizens,” he added.

In a press briefing on Friday, Sima-Sadat Lari said 142 people have also died of the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 12,447.

She confirmed 2,262 new cases of infection with the novel coronavirus, raising the total number of cases to 252,720.

3,319 patients are also in severe conditions of the disease, she added.

Lari noted that 1,922,501 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country.

According to Lari, East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, Kermanshah, Khuzestan, Hormozgan, Bushehr, Kurdistan, Khorasan Razavi, and Ilam provinces are still considered as red zones as in previous days.

Tehran, Isfahan, Mazandaran, Golestan, Alborz, Kerman, Yazd, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hamadan, and Ardabil provinces are also in dangerous conditions, she added, urging people to seriously avoid any unnecessary trip, especially to Khorasan Razavi and Mazandaran provinces.

Khulak is one of the most famous and widespread handicrafts in Sistan, practiced by many people throughout the region, especially around the lagoon and the lake.

This type of curtain is also very popular in Arab countries where the weather is hot, and many of the curtains produced in this region are either exported or smuggled to Arab countries. 

Unfortunately, following the droughts of Hamun Lake, this valuable art was almost forgotten, but it has been revived in the past two years with more precipitation. 

Heavy rains late last year and this year in the Helmand area caused flooding in parts of Hamun Wetland but it also led to the restoration of some water-related activities.

The revival of Hamun has led to the vibrancy and prosperity of Khulak weaving on the shores of the lagoon, which is quite attractive to passers-by.

Hamun Lake, southeastern IranBehrouz Issazahi, an official at the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, says after the drought there was no raw materials for Khulak weaving and the industry was being consigned into oblivion. 

“During this period, raw materials were procured from Afghanistan or the northern provinces of Iran so that this profession would not be damaged because this type of handicraft has a very good marketability,” he told IRNA. 

“Now we hope that with the good conditions of Hamun Wetland in recent years and the growth of reeds, which is the main raw material for this art, Khulak weaving will flourish again in the region as in the past and artisans will be able to produce more,” concluded Issazehi.
