The IUT is currently working with Swiss universities in different fields.

After visiting Isfahan, the Swiss diplomat will travel to Tehran for high-level talks with Iran’s president, foreign minister, and Parliament speaker, among others.

Iran Not to Compromise on Its Security: Navy Chief

Iran Not to Compromise on Its Security

Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said the Iranian navy is pressing ahead with its missions and activities despite the coronavirus pandemic.

“The fleets of the US and many other countries were gripped by the COVID-19 outbreak. One of their aircraft carriers, with around 5,000 crew members, as well as their destroyers were affected by the pandemic and the fallout from the virus outbreak took on military dimensions as well. However, activities and missions of the Naval Force of the Iranian Army have not stopped, and our mission have not been disrupted at all so far,” said admiral Khanzadi, the commander of the Naval Force of the Iranian Army.

The top commander underlined that military units can hone their skills by taking part in war games, expressing Tehran’s preparedness to hold joint military exercises with all regional countries.

He said the Navy is being equipped with ballistic missiles, drones and anti-submarine helicopters, which can surprise the enemies.

The top general said the Navy has also developed a mine-sweeping device which can spot and defuse smart modern sea mines.

Iran Welcomes Palestinians’ Unity in Face of Israeli Atrocities

Iran Welcomes Palestinians’ Unity in Face of Israeli Atrocities

In a Saturday statement, Saeed Khatibzadeh underscored the only way to secure the liberation of occupied Palestine and the holy Quds is for all Palestinian and resistance groups to remain united against the criminal and occupying regime of Israel.

“The resistant Palestinian nation has proved over the past decades that it will not give up its determination to stand up to those who have usurped Palestine despite years of occupation, killing and crackdown by the occupying Israeli regime against Palestinian people as well as compromise plans put forward by some treacherous Arab governments,” he said.

“Governments as well as freedom-seeking and resistant nations across the world will stand with Palestinians on the path to achieving their demands,” he added.

In a show of unity, Leaders of all Palestinian factions and groups in Ramallah and Beirut held a meeting to discuss “unified strategy” for countering Israeli-US conspiracies, including their land grab agenda, following a controversial Washington-brokered normalization accord between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Thursday intra-Palestinian meeting was attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Hamas’s political chief Ismail Haniya, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Ziyad al-Nakhalah, among others.

Iran Sees ‘Positive Outlook’ for Ties with IAEA after Latest Report

Iran Sees ‘Positive Outlook’ for Ties with IAEA after Latest Report

Iran’s representative at international organizations in Vienna Kazem Gharibabadi said the recent report by the IAEA director general about the Safeguards Agreement (Non-Proliferation Treaty) with Iran depicts a positive and constructive outlook for Iran-IAEA ties.
He said the report is significant from two perspectives.

“In terms of its form, the report turns to developments and progress in relations and cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the agency and suggests constructive and content-wise interaction between the two sides during this period in order to reach common understanding and work out a solution to the issues in question,” he said.

“Content-wise, too, this report illustrates a clear picture of the current status of [mutual] cooperation and offers a positive and constructive outlook in Iran-IAEA ties, which is expected to be approved by an overwhelming number of members of the agency and its Board of Governors,” he added.

Gharibabadi touched upon IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi’s recent trip to Iran, and said as agreed by both sides, the agency was allowed to have access to one of two sites it had requested.

He added the agency is also planned to be granted access to the second site this site.
“Also in this report, the IAEA chief welcomed a recent agreement between Iran and the agency [reached during Grossi’s visit to Iran]” he said.

“Iran showed a goodwill gesture by engaging with the agency’s new director general, and we expect the joint statement as well as the IAEA director general’s report will win the backing of Board of Governors members and other members of the agency and be regarded as a move toward normalizing two or three Safeguards Agreement issues related to Iran,” he said.

Nefar; A Symbol of Vernacular Architecture in Northern Iran

Nefar; A Symbol of Vernacular Architecture in Northern Iran 2

Nefar, which is literally defined as a small two-storey wooden building according to Dehkhoda Persian dictionary, is known as a symbol of vernacular architecture of Mazandaran.

In Mazandarani dialect, Nefar means a bed with a very high base, similar to an attic, climbed by wooden stairs.

In the lower floor of the building, agricultural equipment is stored; while its upper floor is used by “Shoupeh”- the paddy’s night guard – for resting overnight.

There is a Nefar in every paddy field, located in the highest point of the land in order to provide a wide view for the guard.

What follows are IRNA’s photos of Nefar in Mazandaran fields:

Iran Rejects Russia's Mediation, Says Has No Plans for Direct Talks with US

Mahmoud Vaezi, the chief of staff of the President’s Office, made the comment in reaction to a recent proposal by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov who has expressed Moscow’s readiness to mediate between Iran and the US.

“We have no intention of holding talks with the Americans and we have announced our position very clearly,” said Vaezi.

“We announced that if the Americans come to realize their mistakes and understand that they have adopted the wrong approach toward Iran, and announce it bravely and say that ‘we made a mistake,’ [then the possibility of talks could be considered]” he said.

He said it was not only Lavrov to have offered to mediate between Tehran and Washington, adding other countries have tried, too, to find a solution to this issue.

“The Americans should return to the JCPOA and talk within the framework of the JCPOA; otherwise, no other move would bear fruit,” he noted.

Lavrov has announced Kremlin’s preparedness to set the stage for holding talks between Iran and the US if both countries are willing to. He once again dismissed as illegal and futile Washington’s attempts to reinstate international sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Iran’s President Rings In School Year 2020

Iran's President Rings In School Year 2020

President Hassan Rouhani said education and health are not mutually exclusive as academic activities should go on while measures are adopted to protected people’s health.
“As we have proved in previous months, the dichotomy between livelihood and life, and health and religiosity is an inappropriate one. Likewise, we will prove with the cooperation of all families, students and respected teachers that the dichotomy between health and education is inappropriate, too,” Rouhani added.

Iran's President Rings In School Year 2020 2He reiterated that students are required to observe all health directives and social-distancing measures.

President Rouhani said education will not shut down even under the most difficult circumstances.

He urged teachers to present academic material briefly and in the shortest possible time as education is currently taking place amid the coronavirus outbreak and health protocols should be observed at the same time.

In comments made later in the day in a meeting of the National Coronavirus Headquarters, the president defended the government’s plan to reopen schools while observing health protocols.

Rouhani said that students have stayed home for around seven months now, and keeping children at home for too long could lead to depression and mental problems.
He said the COVID-19 pandemic brought to light the significance of the status of schools.
President Rouhani said going to school will bring joy and dynamism to students. However, he added, social distancing measures and other health protocols should be observed all along.

“Protecting people’s health is the top priority; however, while all health directives are observed, all essential activities in society should go on as well,” he stressed.
The president said education does not only include learning academic material; rather, he noted, it includes learning social discipline and life skills as well, which can only take place during students’ physical presence in educational settings.

Iran, Russia to Work Together to Produce COVID-19 Vaccine

Iran’s ambassador to Moscow announced that the two countries reached a deal after talks with Kirill Dimitrov, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

The top Iranian diplomat had made the request for joint cooperation to produce a vaccine and medicine during online talks with Dimitrov.

That followed recent negotiations between the presidents and health ministers of the two countries where the two sides underlined the need to work together to develop a vaccine and medication for the virus.

The Iranian ambassador also congratulated Russia on the production of a vaccine for COVID-19.

He touched upon the outcome of two meetings of a vaccine and medication working group held between the Pasteur Institute of Iran and the Russian Gamali National Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology. The Iranian ambassador expressed hope the two countries will soon start to work jointly to produce a vaccine for coronavirus with the cooperation of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

Dimitrov, in turn, said he was pleased to see the two countries are working closely to produce a vaccine for the virus, saying the mass-production of the vaccine with the cooperation of Iran will soon be put on the agenda.
