Hossein Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in a Sunday meeting with Enrique Mora the European Union’s deputy secretary general for political affairs in Tehran.

He said the Islamic Republic has joined the Vienna negotiations with seriousness and put forward all the initiatives required for reaching an agreement, adding that the other parties, especially the US administration, should adopt a realistic approach in order to facilitate a resolution of the remaining outstanding issues.

Amir Abdollahian expressed gratitude for efforts made by Mora and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in the negotiations process.

For his part, Enrique Mora, the European Union’s deputy secretary general for political affairs, presented a report on the latest status of the talks as well as his own assessment of the path ahead.

Covid death toll hits new low in Iran as infections nearly double

According to the figures published on Sunday by the Iranian Health Ministry, 2,299 people have tested positive for coronavirus over the past 24 hours, up from 1,382 a day earlier.

Covid-19 also claimed the lives of 50 people during the same period, down from 54 a day earlier, the figures showed.

Since early 2020, 7,151,088 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19, while 140,021 have been killed by the fast-spreading virus.

The rise in infection cases come as Iranians have been marking New Year holidays with family visits and inter-city trips since last Sunday, amid sharply loosened pandemic restrictions.

The country’s officials attribute the decreasing death toll to a widespread vaccination campaign countrywide.

The new figures said 146,302,121 doses of vaccine have so far been administered, including 25,845,904 third booster shots.

Moghaddasi also said Iran exported 122 million tons of products worth $48 billion to different parts of the world, $14 billion up compared to 1399.

The head of Iran’s Customs Organization added that the first top five countries who sold goods to Iran in the year 1400 were the United Arab Emirates, China, Turkey, Germany and Russia.

According to Moghaddasi, the main destinations of Iranian products were China, Iraq, Turkey, the UAE and Afghanistan.

Amir Abdollahian has come under fire after he suggested that the IRGC is ready to remain on the US blacklist for the sake of Iran’s national interests.

He said on his Instagram account his remarks had nothing to do with crossing or compromising on Iran’s redlines.

Amir Abdollahian added that what he said about the IRGC’s stance on the Vienna talks reflects the views of the senior commanders of the corps.

Amir Abdollahian noted that he could not make himself clearer about the pivotal place of the IRGC.

The Iranian Foreign Minister then echoed the late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini’s comment who had said, “I wish I were a guard too.”

The harshest criticism of Amir Abdollahian’s remarks came from Hossein Shariatmadari, the editor-in-chief of Iran’s Keyhan daily.

In the meeting, the two sides exchanged views about the latest situation of the sanctions removal talks in Vienna and the remaining issues.

Iran’s top negotiator noted the Islamic Republic’s seriousness and determination to finalize a deal in Vienna, saying if the US side is realistic, a deal is achievable.  Enrique Mora for his part gave Bagheri a report on his latest consultations with the other sides.

What follows is a brief look at Kaak recipe and instructions for cooking it.

How to make Kaak

Ingredients for Kaak:

Lukewarm water: 50 milliliters
Animal or solid oil: 1 teaspoon
Eggs: 1
Salt: ½ teaspoon
Sugar powder: 160 grams
Cardamom powder: 1 teaspoon
Pistachio or almond powder: ½ measuring cup

Kaak Recipe:

Pour the instant baker’s yeast, confectioners’ sugar and lukewarm water in a bowl and let the ingredients mix together for 10 minutes.

Melt the solid oil and pour it in another bowl until it cools down slightly. Break the egg in a dish, add some salt to it and stir the mixture well.

Then add the oil and instant baker’s yeast. Now, add the flour to the extent that the mixture [the dough] does not stick to your hands, and, then, knead it very well.

Sweet Kaak
Kaak (Persian: کاک) is a pastry and souvenir of the western Iranian province of Kermanshah.

Then put down the lid of the dish or bowl [containing the mixture] and wait for two hours.

Then, roll up the dough and chop it into equal pieces. Mix the confectioner’s sugar, green cardamom powder and almond flour. Now, it is time to heat the saj – a domed or convex metal griddle on which bread is baked – until it becomes hot and, then, place the dough pieces, unrolled earlier with a rolling pin, on it.

Then, unroll the confectioner’s sugar-covered pieces with the rolling pin and cut them into equal smaller pieces while they are still hot. Let the pieces cool down and then ornament their top with pistachio flour.

According to a Farsi report by Sarzamin-e Man magazine, among the main traditional dishes prepared and served on the eve or first day of Nowruz (wikipedia) are Samanu (an Iranian sweet paste made entirely from germinated wheat), Sabzi Polo Ba Mahi (a mixture of rice and chopped herbs with fried fish), Kaak (a pastry and souvenir of the western Iranian province of Kermanshah), and Reshteh Polo.

Lead Yemeni negotiator calls on Saudi Arabia to accept peace initiative

In reaction to a peace initiative proposed by head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council Mahdi Mashat, chief Yemeni negotiator, Mohamamd Abdol Salam said the Saudi regime should end the siege of Yemen and pull out foreign forces from the country.

Abdol Salam said this will pave the move for peace. The Yemeni official also said after a ceasefire, the conditions will be ripe for talks aimed at finding a political solution to the Yemen crisis.

On Saturday, Mahdi Mashat, the head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, called a unilateral 3-day stoppage of missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia as part of a bid to pave the way for peace talks.

The Saudis have yet to respond to the initiative.
The Yemen war began in March 2015 after the Saudis and their allies launched a massive aerial warfare against Yemen and deployed their mercenaries in parts of the country.

A huge number of people have been killed in the war and Yemen’s infrastructure has been ruined.
