Iran sole hope for Palestinian people: Iranian official

Israeli forces storm al-Aqsa Mosque

Speaking to IRNA on Saturday, Abdollah Sohrabi, an aide to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, referred to the recent acts of violence by the Israeli regime against Palestinians and said, “People, fasting in the month of Ramadan, are being treated viciously.”

“Over the past couple of days, a large number of [Palestinian] people have been wounded, and we are witnessing an instance of savagery in the full sense of the word in the occupied lands,” he added.

“Many officials in [other] countries are turning a blind eye; international institutions and organizations are also keeping mum… The Palestinian people’s sole hope is the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Sohrabi said.

On Friday, Israeli forces stormed the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the occupied Old City of al-Quds, using sound bombs and rubber bullets to suppress and scatter the worshipers, who used stones to fight back.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRSC) said 152 fasting Palestinians had to receive treatment for injuries as a result of the raid.

Sohrabi said the Israeli regime was hoping to Judaize Palestinian territories and destroy Muslim holy sites, including al-Aqsa.

Iran says does not give nuclear site data to IAEA for now

IAEA

Behrouz Kamalvandi told al-Alam News Channel that not until after a deal in Vienna will Iran hand over the data to the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA.

He noted that it’s likely that the data will be erased. Kamalvandi added that the equipment at the centrifuge production site near Tehran known as Tessa Karaj was moved to the Natanz nuclear facility for security reasons.

He referred to the terrorist attack that happened at the Tessa workshop and caused some damage to the site. Iran says Israel was behind the attack.

The AEOI spokesman also spoke of the IAEA chief Rafael Grossi’s visit to Tehran and also the Vienna talks.

He said he travelled to Vienna once for talks over safeguards issues with the IAEA chief and the two sides came up with a framework so they would resolve remaining issues fast.

He said Iran expects that following an agreement in Vienna, there should remain no issues pertaining to the past activities of Iran.

Iran and the P4+1 group of countries have held numerous rounds of talks in the past months to revive the 2015 nuclear deal and pave the way for the US to return to the agreement, also known as JCPOA. But the talks have stalled due to what Iran describes excessive demands by the US.

Washington unilaterally left the JCPOA under former president Donald Trump  in 2018 and reinstated sanctions on Iran.

‘Vice-president of Iran’s Football Federation arrested’

Iran’s Football Federation

The IRIB News Agency anonymously cited an “informed source” as saying on Saturday that the official had been arrested on suspicion of being linked to the so-called MoneyKing cryptocurrency scam on the same day.

The report didn’t name the vice-president, but other sources identified her as Shohreh Mousavi.

IRIB News said the arrested official was the third person to have been taken into custody in relation to the MoneyKing scam, which has defrauded many Iranians of various sums of money.

It identified the two other people only as F. Gh. and the spouse of the Football Federation’s vice-president.

There are reportedly over 3,000 plaintiffs in the case, who have collectively lost several thousand billion tomans, according to the report.

The IRIB News’ source called the MoneyKing scam “the biggest fraud case” in the field of cryptocurrency, adding that the scheme had been carried out by a known network marketing company in Iran.

The source explained that those behind the scheme manufactured price fluctuations to prod investors to spend more on the cryptocurrency.

The unreal fluctuations saw the value of each unit of the cryptocurrency rise from four euros to several thousand euros in a matter of months.

Iran Embassy Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s news channel, TOLOnews reported on Saturday that Taliban forces had moved swiftly to make the arrests a day earlier. No further details were immediately available.

Last Monday, a mob of Afghans attacked Iran’s Consulate in Herat, burning tires and smashing its security cameras. The gathering meant to protest the purported mistreatment of Afghan nationals in Iran.

Taliban forces reportedly fired shots into the air to repel the assailants.

Subsequently, Iran announced that it would be closing its diplomatic missions in Afghanistan until further notice, but reports say the Herat Consulate is the only mission that remains closed.

On Wednesday, a number of Afghans gathered in front of Iran’s Embassy in Kabul to condemn the attack on the Iranian consulate and offer flowers to the staff at the site.

Days earlier, on April 6, an Afghan national had staged a stabbing attack against three Shia clerics in the Iranian city of Mashhad. Two of the clerics were killed and the other one was injured.

Iranian minister of economy cancels US visit and World Bank meeting

Ehsan Khandouzi

Khandouzi was supposed to take part in the spring conference of the World Bank.

This is not the first time the US fails to abide by its commitments to international bodies like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund regarding visa issuance.

Washington has on several occasions hampered participation by Iranian delegations in similar international gatherings. Iran is a founding member of the World Bank and the IMF.

The US stands accused of abusing the presence of international bodies in its soil and hampering the participation of countries it has blacklisted in events held by those organizations.

COVID in Iran

As per the figures released on Saturday, 1,015 new infections were logged that included 195 hospitalizations.

This is while the number of red citizens where people face the highest level of risk from the Coronavirus has increased in Iran.

The Health Ministry said 55 Iranian cities and towns are now marked red while the number of blue cities is 35. The blue cities are those with the lowest level of threat from Covid.

The downward trend in Covid fatalities and cases in Iran has been attributed to a nationwide vaccination drive that has resulted in the inoculation of most people in the country.

So far, 148,217,986 doses of vaccine have been given to people in the country. In the past 24 hours alone, 46,294 doses were administered countrywide.

Iran president: Covid jab producers can export surplus products

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi

Raisi also praised the production of Coronavirus jabs by Iranian pharmaceutical companies as an accomplishment worthy of being proud of.

The president referred to the need for helping other countries fight Covid, saying Iran is determined to continue its humanitarian policies and assisting regional and other countries in different parts of the world.

He then singled out China, saying the country was of great help to Iran by sending vaccine shipments to the Islamic Republic. Raisi noted that Iran is in a position now that it can share its experience in fighting the Coronavirus with China.

He further spoke of the need for citizens to abide by health protocols. Raisi urged all officials and people to institutionalize adherence to health protocols and respecting the instructions of experts and those of the National Taskforce for Fighting Covid in society.

Raisi warned that the downward trend in Covid deaths and infections should not make people relax health protocols. He also urged officials against making any statement that would cause concern among people and adversely affect businesses and livelihoods.
