Iran Navy cmdr.: Foreign presence in Persian Gulf unjustified

Shahram Irani

Admiral Shahram Irani noted that extra-regional countries can come to the Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman for scientific exchange but the security of these bodies of water must be provided by Iran and neighboring countries.

He was speaking during a ceremony to welcome Iranian naval units returning from the maritime drills IONS (IMEX 2022) in India.

The commander of the Iranian Navy described the mission as good and said the maneuvers had a high quality in terms of training.

Admiral Irani also said Iran’s Navy had a strong presence in the drills and played their role there successfully.

He said Iran’s participation in the exercises was aimed at introducing the Islamic Republic’s capabilities to other nations.

The commander of Iran’s Navy then urged hostile foreign countries whose warships are visiting region to not contemplate providing security for the Persian Gulf because regional nations themselves are capable of protecting the region

The director general of the Justice Department of Hormozgan province, southern Iran, said 11 crew members of this foreign ship were detained and they are in custody as part of an investigation into the case.

He added that the naval forces of the IRGC also confiscated an Iranian vessel sought to refuel the foreign ship. Three crew members of the Iranian vessel were also detained.

The director general of Hormozgan’s Justice Department noted that fighting smuggling, especially fuel smuggling, is a top priority for the province because it is vital to supporting Iran’s economic development.

President Raisi: Iran’s nuclear know-how irreversible

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi

The ceremony happened at the exhibition of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.

During his visit to the exhibition, President Raisi expressed pleasure at the progress made by Iranian youths and scientists in the nuclear field and described this development as a sign of self-reliance by Iranians.

The president noted that the accomplishments of Iranian nuclear scientists can serve as a role-model for other sectors in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During the ceremony, Iran’s Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari outlined the country’s nuclear achievements for President Raisi.

Two of those achievements concern the radio-therapy field, two other items concern plasma and four others are related to the industrial, laser, control systems and imaging fields.

At the exhibition, the AEOI announced plans to generate 10k megawatts of nuclear electricity and the construction of a fully-domestically built 360k megawatt power plant.

Raisi once again rejected the Western claims that Iran is after nuclear weapons.

The president said nukes have no place in Iran’s defensive doctrine and “the enemies know this too well”.

He then referred to the numerous inspections by the International Atomic energy Agency at Iran’s nuclear facilities and the body’s confirmation of non-diversion in the country’s nuclear activities.

The Iranian president said the Islamic Republic will never allow the foes and ill-wishers to hamper the country’s nuclear activities and that this peaceful program will continue forcefully.

The president then spoke about the Vienna talks aimed at reviving the 2015 nuclear deal. He said Tehran will not retreat an iota from its nuclear rights in those negotiations

Iran FM to UAE counterpart: Zionist regime threat to all regional nations

Iran Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdolahian

Amir Abdollahian, in a phone conversation with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaye Al Nahyan, said the presence of the Zionist regime in the region poses a threat to all regional nations.

Amir Abdollahian then underscored the need to make an effort to prevent those who cause crises, gain a foothold in the region.

The Iranian foreign minister referred to the commonalities of Iran and the UAE, saying, “We do not wish anything but good, security and progress for our neighbors, the region and the UAE.”

Amir Abdollahian also said good meetings and consultations have been held between the officials of the two countries, adding there are no limits to the all-out expansion of relations.

Amir Abdollahian then spoke of the Yemen crisis. He welcomed the establishment of a temporary truce in Yemen and expressed hope that the humanitarian siege of Yemen will be lifted and all Yemeni factions will engage in political dialog.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also for his part expressed hope that the deep-rooted ties between his country and Iran will further expand in the new year.

The top UAE diplomat said the situation has improved regionally in recent weeks and that Syrian President Bashar al-Asad’s visit to the UAE and the ceasefire in Yemen have provided an opportunity for all sides to develop and progress and also avoid fueling tensions.

He also underlined that the UAE will not allow any party to use its soil for sabotage or provocative acts against the neighbors of the Arab country

Israeli forces shoot dead Palestinian man in refugee camp

The Palestine Health Ministry reported on Saturday that one Palestinian was martyred and 13 were wounded during clashes between local residents in Jenin and the armed forces of the occupying regime.

Slamming the latest Israeli aggressions in Jenin, spokesman for the prominent Gaza-based resistance group Hamas, Abdul-Latif al-Qanoun, insisted that the regime’s current aggressions won’t restore the lost credibility of the occupier’s military forces and leadership.

The Hamas official further added that Tel Aviv’s “military aggressions against out people in Jenin should generate a massive intifada (uprising) against the Zionist occupiers across the West Bank.”

He also vowed that “West Bank’s cities, refugee camps and streets will turn into flames that would burn the feet of the occupying aggressors.”

The Israeli military, meanwhile, told news outlets that its assault against the Palestinian refugee camp in the northern West Bank city of Jenin was ongoing.

The Palestinian health ministry further announced that five other Palestinians were wounded in Jenin by gunfire from the Israeli regime forces.

Saturday’s raid comes a day after the occupying regime announced the killing of the 28-year-old Palestinian, identified as Raad Hazem, blaming him for the shooting death of three Israeli occupiers on Thursday and wounding more than a dozen others at a popular Israeli nightlife district in Tel Aviv.

After the deadly Tel Aviv attack, hawkish Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said he had given “full freedom” to the regime’s suppressive armed forces to contain a surge in violence since March 22.

“There are not and will not be limits for this war,” Bennett boasted on Friday, speaking hours after the Palestinian resistance fighter opened fire on a street of crowded Israeli bars and restaurants.

“We are granting full freedom of action to the army, the Shin Bet (the regime’s infamous domestic police agency) and all security forces in order to defeat the terror,” he added.

A total of 14 people have been killed in attacks across the Israeli-occupied territories since March 22. Over the same period, at least 10 Palestinians have been martyred, including the resistance fighters that carried out the attacks.

Palestinian Hamas and the Islamic Jihad resistance factions praised the Tel Aviv attack against the Israeli occupiers but did not claim responsibility for them.

Thursday’s attack came amid heightened tensions during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Last year during Ramadan, clashes that flared between the Israeli regime forces and Palestinian worshipers visiting Al-Aqsa mosque in the occupied east Jerusalem led to 11 days of devastating conflict between the Israeli forces and Hamas fighters.

Jenin has been a flashpoint through the long-running clashes between the Israeli regime’s military and local Palestinians.

Earlier this month, the Israeli forces killed three Islamic Jihad fighters when they came under fire during an operation to arrest them in Jenin.

The raid, in which four Israeli soldiers were wounded, followed another deadly attack on March 29 in Bnei Brak, an Orthodox Jewish city near Tel Aviv.

In that attack, a Palestinian resistance fighter with an assault rifle killed two Israeli occupiers, two native Ukrainian residents and a police officer.

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami

“By God’s grace and thanks to relentless efforts by colleagues and experts, the Nuclear Industry Strategic Document for a 20-Year Outlook has been drawn up for the first time [in the country], passed all stages of approval and is being unveiled today by President Ebrahim Raeisi,” said Mohammad Eslami in a ceremony on Saturday, marking National Nuclear Technology Day.

He said a road map has also been drawn up for an overhaul within the AEOI.

Salami further urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) not to succumb, any more, to excessive demands and pressure as well as acts of sabotage by enemies of the Iranian nation, which are led by the Israeli regime

Saudi Arabia increases Hajj quota to 1mn pilgrims in 2022

Hajj

In increasing the numbers, the kingdom’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced in a statement early on Saturday the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, Islam’s holiest site, would only be allowed for people who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and are under the age of 65.

“It is of supreme importance to the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to preserve the safety and security of Hajj pilgrims as well as visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque while ensuring that the maximum number of Muslims worldwide can perform Hajj and visit the Prophet’s Mosque in a safe and spiritual atmosphere,” the ministry added.

Pilgrims travelling from abroad will also need to have a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before their departure for Saudi Arabia, the statement said, while health precautions will be in place in Mecca to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and a once-in-a-lifetime duty for all able-bodied Muslims to perform if they can afford it.

It is expected to take place in July this year with the numbers allowed from each country decided under a quota system.

Just a few thousand people were allowed to perform the pilgrimage in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and only 1,000 the year before that. Before the virus emerged, some 2.5 million people would travel every year to Saudi Arabia for Hajj

Tehran air quality in red zone, unhealthy for all

Tehran Air Quality Control Company said on Saturday that the index was 177 which is unhealthy for all groups.

It advised people with heart or lung disease, the elderly and children to avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities, and others to reduce them.

The Iranian capital had the worst air quality index in the world on Friday followed by Beijing and Pakistan’s Lahore.

Droughts in the Middle East region and dust storms coming from the west have contributed to the growing air pollution problem in Iran.

US: Deal with Iran neither imminent nor certain

“On the status of talks and Iran, we don’t have any updates to share at this time other than it’s obviously been a significant process,” State Department spokeswoman Jalina Porter stated.

“But an agreement is neither imminent nor certain at this time,” she added.

The spokesperson noted President Joe Biden shares The chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Mark Milley’s view that “IRGC Qods Forces are terrorists”, and beyond that we aren’t going to comment on any of the topics in the nuclear talks.

“But what I would say is out of the 107 Biden administration designations in relation to Iran, 86 have specifically targeted the IRGC-related persons as well as affiliates,” she continued.

Milley had told a congressional hearing on Thursday that in his “personal opinion” the Quds Force should not be dropped from the terror list.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian has stressed the US must act realistically instead of making excessive demands and hampering the Vienna talks aimed at reviving the Iran nuclear deal.

He stated Tehran is determined to reach a good, robust and lasting deal.
