Israeli regime exclusive symbol of state terrorism: Iran deputy FM

Ali Bagheri Kani

Speaking at an event themed on Palestine on Wednesday in Tehran, Ali Bagheri Kani said the Palestinian issue is not about a mere dispute over a piece of land since the Zionist regime has been committing “systematic violations of human rights” at the international level throughout its history.

The Iranian official criticized the West’s all-out support for the regime regardless of the crimes it has been perpetrating in Palestine, saying such an approach is posing a challenge to the Western states’ claims of commitment to human rights and democracy.

Nevertheless, no matter how hard the regime tries, it will fail in its Western-backed attempts to eliminate Palestine, he added.

“The Zionist regime and its Western sponsors are seeking Palestine’s elimination, but they remain ignorant [of the fact that] the mindset of resistance is rooted in the heart of regional nations, especially Palestine,” he added.

The Palestine issue could only be resolved either through resistance or via a referendum among the original inhabitants of Palestine, said Bagheri Kani, adding that any of the two solutions that bears fruit sooner will facilitate the return of all Palestinians to their homeland and bring about lasting peace in the region.

“Any initiative that fails to end occupation and aggression in Palestine cannot be regarded as a solution” to the decades-long conflict, he said.

Iranian Parliament speaker voices support for Iraqi government

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf & Mohammed al-Halbousi

“We hope that a strong Iran and a strong Iraq will always be by each other’s side… because Iran and Iraq have an important role to play in regional, political, security, and economic affairs and in the strengthening of Islamic states,” Qalibaf told a visiting Speaker of Iraq’s Parliament Mohammed al-Halbousi on Wednesday.

Qalibaf said strong bilateral ties between Iran and Iraq would be effective on both the regional and global scales.

Al-Halbousi similarly emphasized mutual relations and said Baghdad was engaged in “proxy diplomacy” to bring regional nations together, a reference to its hosting of talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia, which have severed their diplomatic ties.

He also said regional countries had to take common positions in international organizations “because we have common challenges, and peace and stability have to return to the region.”

The Iraqi parliament speaker said armed groups should not be allowed to terrorize nations or to act against states.

This is al-Halbousi’s second trip to Iran as the speaker of the Iraqi parliament.

Senior Hamas leaders in Iran’s capital ahead of Intl. Quds Day

Intl. Quds Day

Khalil al-Hayya, a member of the politburo of Hamas, along with Osama Hamdan, a senior member of the Gaza-based resistance group, arrived in the Iranian capital on Wednesday.

The two Palestinian officials are set to take part in a press conference to be held at the headquarters of the Permanent Secretariat of the international conference on supporting Palestine’s Intifada.

The late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, designated the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as the International Quds Day back in 1979.

The occasion is considered an opportunity to reflect the voice of the Palestinians, who are living under the oppression of the Zionist regime.

This years, with Covid-related restrictions eased, Iranians are set to take to the streets on Friday to mark the occasion.

The man was identified as 21-year-old Ahmad Muhammad Lotfi Massad, a resident of the town of Burqin, during a raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the early hours of Wednesday.

The director of Ibn Sina Hospital in Jenin, Jani Abu Jokha, said Massad had been shot in the head. Three other Palestinians with moderate wounds were transferred to the medical facility as well.

Palestine’s official Wafa news agency, citing security and local sources, reported that Israeli forces conducted a predawn raid on the camp.

The Israeli troops broke into dozens of homes and violently searched them, causing excessive property damage, before detaining at least three Palestinians.

Violent confrontations broke out in the camp between Palestinians and Israeli forces, who fired live who fired stun grenades, tear gas canisters as well as live bullets in order to disperse the protesting crowd.

Massad’s death follows that of another Palestinian killed on Tuesday, when Israeli forces stormed a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Health Ministry announced 20-year-old Ahmed Ibrahim Oweidat “succumbed to critical wounds sustained by live bullets to the head,” during the shooting in Aqabat Jaber camp near Ariha.

Iran forces put on Afghan border to prevent Taliban encroachments: Minister

Iranian military forces

Vahidi told Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday that the deployment was “only natural” since Taliban forces had been encroaching on Iranian territory based on a “misunderstanding.”

“The Taliban believe certain border areas should be under their control, they are wrong, so our border guards are there to make them understand,” he said.

He said the presence of armed Taliban forces had prompted Iran to deploy its armed forces but denied reports that any clashes had taken place between the two sides.

The Iranian interior minister said officials in Kabul had been requested to handle the matter, and they had issued relevant orders to the local forces to stop their movement.

He said Taliban officials had agreed to send a delegation to Iran over the matter.

Footage had earlier emerged of Iranian military forces being transferred on board armored vehicles and tanks to the Iranian border with Afghanistan.

Still earlier, reports had said an unspecified incident had taken place at the border. Last week, a border crossing was closed after unconfirmed reports of scuffles between the Taliban and the Iranian guards at the site.

Iran’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi-Qomi later told Tasnim News Agency that Taliban forces had violated Iran’s border while attempting to build a road in the area, prompting Iranian guards to intervene.

Yemen’s govt. says Saudi-led coalition not observing article of ceasefire

Mohammed Abdulsalam, spokesman for Yemen’s National Salvation Government and chief negotiator in talks with the Saudi-led coalition governments

Mohammed Abdulsalam, spokesman for Yemen’s National Salvation Government and chief negotiator in talks with the Saudi-led coalition governments, said that one month into the implementation of the agreement, the international airport in the capital, Sana’a, is yet to reopen as per the ceasefire deal.

Yemen’s Civil Aviation Authority in Sana’a had said earlier that the UN had agreed to a first commercial flight from the Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan to the Sana’a International Airport.

The flight was scheduled for April 24, at 8 am local time. It is yet to take place.

The Civil Aviation Authority said ‘the aggressor regimes’ had opposed the flight.

A military coalition led by Saudi Arabia invaded Yemen in 2015. Shortly afterwards, the coalition governments imposed a blockade on the country, including bans on flights to and from the Sana’a International Airport.

Earlier this month, however, the warring sides declared a two-month truce in what was seen as a major breakthrough in Yemen’s seven-year conflict.

The truce was brokered by UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, who said while announcing the ceasefire on April 1 that some flights from the Sana’a airport “to predetermined destinations in the region” would become possible under the agreement.

The Saudi-led war has killed and injured hundreds of thousands of people, with millions more internally displaced.

‘Saudi media report on JCPOA FM’s meeting in Vienna fake’

Nuclear Talks in Vienna

Al Arabiya had claimed in the report that the revival of the Iran deal — officially named the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — is slated to be announced during the gathering of the foreign ministers.

The source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Iran’s Tasnim News Agency that the issue of such a meeting has been on the table for months, but no exact date has been set.

As long as the US fails to respect Iran’s red lines, such a thing will not happen, the source said, calling the Al Arabia report “fake” and “untrue.”

Observers say the report by the Saudi-run media outlet appears to be an attempt to ease the pressure being exerted on the US by its European allies to accept Iran’s conditions for agreeing to the JCPOA’s revitalization.

The Vienna negotiations were put on hold in March at a time when both parties to the talks said the diplomatic process was near completion.

The remaining outstanding issues are reported to be few but highly important.

Iran has repeatedly said the ball is in the United States’ court, and that Washington needs to take political decisions in order to pave the way for the JCPOA’s restoration.

Iran, Russia to discuss increased transportation ties

Iran and Russia Flags

“Fortunately, all-out ties between Iran and Russia have seen a considerable uptick in recent weeks,” Qassemi said on arrival at a Moscow airport on Wednesday, when he was received by Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali.

The Iranian minister said the finalization of past agreements on railway, maritime, road, and aerial transportation was on the agenda.

“Specifically, we will discuss transit with Russia’s transportation minister,” he said.

He called the development of transportation infrastructure a prerequisite for the enhancement of the economic ties between Iran and Russia.

Currently, Qassemi explained, Russia was connected to the Persian Gulf via two Iranian railway routes, namely the Garmsar-Injeboroun and the Julfa-Nakhjavan tracks.

On his trip to Moscow, Qassemi is being accompanied by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari, a number of deputies at the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, the director of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, and the CEO of Mahan Airlines.

Four Syrian soldiers killed in Israeli raid on Damascus countryside

Israeli Fighter Jet

Syria’s official news agency SANA, citing a military source, reported that Israeli aircraft fired several missiles from the direction of the northeastern Israeli city of Tiberias, which lies on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, at areas in the vicinity of Damascus on Wednesday.

Most of the projectiles were intercepted and destroyed before hitting any of their targets, it added.

The source said four soldiers had lost their lives while three others were wounded. The airstrike also caused some material damage.

Back on April 14, Israeli missiles were intercepted by the Syrian air defense systems over the western countryside of Damascus.

An unnamed military source stated at the time that the missiles were reportedly fired from the direction of Syria’s Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

A similar attack was carried out by Israel on April 9 against the northwestern Syrian city of Masyaf, which only caused material losses at the targeted area.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The Syrian government says the Israeli regime and its Western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri terrorist groups that are wreaking havoc in the country.

Israel frequently targets military positions inside Syria, especially those of the resistance movement Hezbollah which has played a key role in helping the Syrian army in its fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.

The Tel Aviv regime mostly keeps quiet about its attacks on Syrian territories which many view as knee-jerk reaction to Syrian government’s increasing success in confronting terrorism.

Israel has been a main supporter of terrorist groups that have opposed the government of President Bashar al-Assad since foreign-backed militancy erupted in Syria nine years ago.

Also on Tuesday, an Israeli military drone crashed in the Syrian territory.

The Israeli military announced the incident was being investigated, claiming that no sensitive information was lost due to the crash and there was no risk of intelligence being taken from the device.

The military did not specify the drone model or the circumstances that led to its crash.

While it remains unclear what exactly caused the unmanned aerial vehicle to fall, similar past incidents have been reported by the Israeli military as the result of technical mishaps.

Back in September last year, a similar event occurred when another drone which belonged to the Israeli military fell in the Syrian territory after it purportedly suffered a technical malfunction.

Iran to end flare burning at plants: Oil minister

Iran Oil

Oji said the contracts would see all flare stacks removed in two to three years and “these rich gases, which would have been burned into smoke and contaminate the environment, will be used as petrochemical feedstock,” IRIB News Agency reported on Wednesday.

He did not specify what partners the contracts had been signed with.

The Iranian minister said the country was also planning to build eight new petrochemical plants and one petrochemical unit in the southern province of Hormozgan that would have a production output of 300,000 barrels per day.

He said Iran needed to increase its refinery output capacity to end the import of petroleum products over the next three to four years.
