He also said tests proved that all suspected cases of monkeypox have turned out to be chickenpox.

Amiri then spoke of the detection of monkeypox in some neighboring countries.

The official also said necessary equipment has been put in place to diagnose cases of monkeypox

Iran says ready to supply Russian auto makers with components

Reza Fatemi-Amin & Alexander Novak

“Russian car companies need Iranian-made wares and we can cooperate with them,” Seyyed Reza Fatemi-Amin told reporters on the sidelines of the Iran-Russia Joint Trade Commission in Tehran on Wednesday.

Since Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine in February, major car manufacturers stopped production and sales of their cars or parts to Moscow.

In recent years, the Iranian companies have already exported auto components, including engine cooling and suspension systems to Russia.

Back in April, a member of Iran’s syndicate of car parts manufacturers announced that a prominent Russian carmaker has requested Iran to supply components it cannot access due to Western sanctions.

The parts in demand included brake systems, seat belts, airbags, alternators, air conditioners, thermostats, and power window systems, Hossein Bahrainian, from the Iranian Auto Parts Makers Association.

“Given the Russian automaker’s demand for cooperation with Iranian equipment manufacturers, companies that have the capacity to supply Russia… in terms of quality and quantity of production, can try their luck for a presence in the market of this northern neighbor,” he was quoted as saying by the Iranian media.

Mining cooperation with Russia

The Iranian trade minister also announced that Tehran is ready to cooperate with Moscow in mining sector.

“We have a good situation in the mining sector; we need to import some items such as steel sheets. We import minerals such as alumina, zinc and lead and can cooperate with Russia,” stated Fatemi-Amin.

Both Iran and Russia are under US sanctions. They have had close relations in recent years. The two countries share a maritime border across the Caspian Sea.

Eurasian Economic Union

Russia along with Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan is a member state of Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), a trade bloc Iran seeking to join.

Iran and the EAEU seek to finalize a free trade agreement by the end of 2022.

Iran signed a Free Trade Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in October 2019.

Under the three-year preferential trade deal, the EAEU and Tehran obliged to accept the conditions for achieving a full free trade plan for tariff-free essential commodities.

The deal has already increased the trade volume between Iran and the member countries of the economic bloc. The trade volume between Iran and the EAEU member states skyrocketed by over 84% in the period between October 2019 and October 2020, before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The economic bloc is estimated to offer an integrated market of 184 million people and a gross domestic product of over $5 trillion.

According to Iran’s Customs Administration, the value of the annual trade between Iran and the EAEU member states witnessed a 66% year on year increase, soaring to $5.643 billion over the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20, 2022).

Iran exported 2.77 million tons of commodities worth over $1.170 billion to EAEU member states over the same period

With the downward trend holding, a vaccination campaign that started over one and a half years ago has now slowed down.

This is while the healthcare personnel of Iran managed to double-vax some 80 percent of the population of around 85 million people during the period.

Iranian Health Minister Bahram Einollahi earlier told the World Health Organization’s Secretary General Tedros Adhanom that Iran has successfully contained the Covid pandemic thanks to round-the-clock efforts by its healthcare staff and people’s support for the drive.

Authorities are urging those who have not received their third shot, to do so.

They have also warned that the achievements of the country in this regard are on the line because if people fail to get their third and fourth shots of vaccine, chances are Covid will resurge.

Israeli Forces in WB

The Palestinian Authority’s health ministry identified the victim as 16-year-old Ghaith Yamin.

According to the ministry, the victim died at a hospital in early Wednesday from a gunshot wound to his head.

The teenager was afflicted with the injury during clashes with Israeli forces. The clashes erupted as the forces were escorting illegal Israeli settlers during a visit to a shrine in the area.

At least 15 Palestinians were wounded by live fire during the clashes.

The clashes came at a time of heightened tensions between the two sides spurred by the Israeli regime’s recent assassination of well-known Palestinian journalist Shereen Abu Akleh.

The veteran Al Jazeera journalist was shot in the head on May 11, when she was reporting on an Israeli raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank.

The Israeli regime has, however, refused to assume responsibility for the murder.

Most recently, reports said Manu Pineda, an official with the European Union’s Parliament, who had been supposed to travel to the occupied territories, to examine the situation on the ground following the murder, had been denied entry by the occupying regime

Iran foreign ministry, environment department tasked with tackling pollution

Air pollution

In a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Ebrahim Raisi instructed the Foreign Ministry and the Environment Department to immediately hold talks with neighboring countries, believed to be the source of the pollution.

“People cannot stand to witness the current situation and they expect the government to seriously pursue the matter,” the president said, adding, “People’s health is vital and the pollution is unbearable for them.”

The air quality levels saw an alarming drop in the country and shuttered schools, universities, and government offices in the capital Tehran and many other cities on Wednesday.

Authorities blame devastating dust storms emanating from neighboring Iraq and Syria as well as dam construction activities by Turkey for the pollution that reached “hazardous” levels

Iran, Russia eye further expansion of trade, energy ties

Iran Trade

Leading a high-level delegation to Iran, Alexander Novak said in a joint economic and energy forum on Wednesday that Russia was in a higher demand of Iranian goods and that deepening monetary ties between the two countries could lead to expansion of trade ties.

“Today, many unfriendly countries are putting Russia under pressure, which increases the need to boost cooperation between the two countries,” Novak said.

Western countries have slapped unprecedented sanctions on Russia since President Vladimir Putin launched a military operation against Ukraine on February 24. Iran is also under similar set of American sanctions since 2018 when then U.S. president Donald Trump pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal.

The Russian deputy prime minister said Moscow is reviewing its bureaucratic procedures to reduce hurdles to increase imports from friendly countries, including Iran.

The Russian official also said conditions are ripe to boost strategic cooperation in developing Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant as part of efforts to promote bilateral strategic cooperation in the fields of energy and nuclear technology.

Novak, meanwhile, said the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and Iran’s strategic position is of high significance for Russia, as it can provide access to the Persian Gulf littoral states.

Iran, together with India and Russia, is pushing forward with the sea and rail corridor that could substantially reduce the time and cost of shipping goods from India to Europe.

Russia’s Ambassador to Tehran, Levan Dzhagaryan, who was among the participants in the forum, expressed hope about the future of bilateral trade ties, saying, “During the past eleven years, from the 10th to 13th administration, that I’ve been the Russian ambassador to Iran, I’m confident that the new ties can benefit both countries.”

Activist: Reports of Saudi transfer of power fabricated

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salam

In an interview with Iran’s Labor New Agency (ILNA), Abdurrahman Radhi al-Suhaimi, said Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salam, also known as MBS, is behind the rumor to assess public opinion.

An anonymous Saudi source, in an interview with Reuters last week, reacted to the presence of Prince Abdul Aziz bin Ahmad during the visit of the Saudi crown prince to the UAE, saying that the inclusion of the prince to the list was a strong message to public opinion inside and outside the country, as to indicating that the transfer of power is imminent.

The Saudi delegation was in the UAE to offer condolences to the Al Nahyan family over the death of former UAE ruler Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Saudi activist said the unlikely royal, who has no official position within the monarchy, joined the Saudi delegation to the UAE to airbrush the kingdom’s political landscape and send the message of unity in the ruling family.

Citing informed sources within the Saudi Ministry of Interior, al-Suhaimi said there are hurdles for the transfer of power within the Saudi monarchy and even if the 36-year-old crown prince ascends to the throne, his ruling will not last long because of his lack of experience, without explaining further.

Touching on the hyped economic measures in the country under MBS, al-Suhaimi said the reforms have been cosmetic and, “in fact, bin Salman has steered the country towards the edge of a precipice.”

He also said that the country is suffering from rising unemployment, poverty, and execution of political dissidents, and is rife with a bleak human rights record

Iran says in talks with Russia over development of Bushehr nuclear power plant

Bushehr nuclear power plant

AEOI spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Wednesday that Iran and Russia had good bilateral relations, including in the nuclear field, and were negotiating to develop phases 2 and 3 of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran’s south.

Kamalvandi made the remark on the sidelines of a meeting between Iran’s Oil Minister Javad Oji and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who is in Tehran at the head of delegation to develop economic ties.

Kamalvandi said the development projects at the Bushehr power plant were major ones that required large investment.

“Therefore, we have to be mindful of financial issues, and we are negotiating with Russia in that regard,” he said.

The Iranian spokesman said Iran also sought to enhance its ties with Russia in the nuclear industry field more generally.

During his two-day visit to Iran, Novak was also scheduled to meet with, among others, representatives from Iran’s Roads and Urban Development Ministry and the Ports and Maritime Organization.

Cross-border transit was reportedly a major topic on Novak’s visit’s agenda
