Trump says US wants nuclear arms deal with Russia and China

The US president made the remarks while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, claiming that Putin also showed interest in the matter during the summit.

“We would like to denuclearize. It’s too much power, and we talked about that also,” Trump stated.

“It was a very successful day for other things, because, you know, we’re also talking about missiles, nuclear, we’re talking about a lot of different things. We’re talking about limiting nuclear, we’ll get China into that. We have the most, Russia has the second most, and China has third. But China is way behind, but they’ll catch us in five years,” the US president added.

It was not immediately clear what the US president’s assessment of the three nations’ nuclear arsenals was based upon. According to the latest figures by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Russia has some 2,591 warheads in storage and some 1,718 deployed, compared with 1,930 and 1,770 respectively in the US arsenal.

According to SIPRI’s estimates, Beijing has around 576 warheads, with only 24 deployed. The UK and France possess 120 and 280 deployed warheads, respectively.

The US president also said he had already spoken with Putin again following the Alaska summit, which was held on August 15.

“Every conversation I have with him is a good conversation. And then, unfortunately, a bomb is loaded up into Kiev or someplace, and then I get very angry about it. I think we’re going to get the war done. It’s tough,” Trump said, admitting that he had thought the Ukraine conflict “would be the easiest” to settle.

Iran FM urges Muslim states to sever ties with Israel, end to genocide in Gaza

In his speech at the extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Monday, Araqchi said to establish peace and ensure the complete withdrawal of occupying forces from Gaza, the Islamic countries must mobilize all political, economic, and legal tools, be it sanctions, boycotts, or coordinated international pressure against Israel.

He also called for accountability at every level, in every court, against all those who committed or enabled war crimes and genocide in Palestine.

Araqchi added: “Gaza stands like a shocking mirror before our collective conscience. What unfolds before our very eyes is the systematic destruction of a besieged people by a ruthless apartheid regime acting with complete impunity.”

The top Iranian diplomat pointed out: “The people of Gaza are being massacred in a premeditated manner; entire residential areas have been wiped out; hospitals have turned into graveyards; and children, in flagrant violation of every human standard, are trapped in famine and extreme hunger. This is not an ordinary war. It is collective punishment, a policy of domination, and yes, an onslaught bearing all the hallmarks of genocide.”

Araqchi reiterated: “Now the perpetrators of these crimes openly speak of their plans to impose full and permanent military control over Gaza. They talk of new enclosures, new buffer zones, and new expulsions, calling it “security”. But we know its real name: “ethnic cleansing”, a systematic effort to dismember a nation until nothing remains but their annihilation or exile.”

He said international law classifies starvation and indiscriminate bombardment as war crimes and crimes against humanity. At the same time, the Fourth Geneva Convention prohibits targeting civilians, destroying homes, and forcibly displacing populations. This is the deliberate imposition of conditions designed to destroy a population, and it has only one name: genocide.

During the performance, Yusuf dedicated his song Didar (Visitation) to Gaza, expressing solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Opening the event with remarks in Turkish, Yusuf said, “May God protect the entire Muslim Ummah and all of humanity from harm and evil.”

He added, “Our prayers are always with our brothers and sisters in Gaza and Palestine. We hear your voices, and we are with you. May God be your helper and protector.”

The artist, known for blending spiritual and contemporary music, has frequently used his platform to advocate for humanitarian causes.

The death toll from the Israeli genocide is nearing 62,690, with nearly 158,000 others injured.

The visit took place after Pezeshkian renewed his pledge of allegiance at the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

The president was accompanied by senior officials during the ceremony, where he laid flowers and offered prayers at the graves of commanders killed in Israeli strikes earlier this year.

Kazem Jalali told Russia’s TASS news agency that Tehran is in ongoing talks with Gazprom to finalize all aspects of the project.

“Almost all issues have been resolved, but we need to reach a common language on pricing,” he said. “Once that is agreed, everything will be operational.”

Jalali also criticized Western governments for their “silence and inaction” over Israel’s military aggression in Gaza.

He noted that the conflict is a “proxy war,” with Israel acting “on behalf of the West,” and censured Tel Aviv for committing “crimes against humanity” by targeting civilians.

Jalali also touched on the escalation between Iran and the US-Israeli alliance in June, saying Iran demonstrated its ability to respond decisively to attacks. “Iran is not Gaza,” he stressed. “If attacked, we will react seriously.”

The envoy also noted that by the end of 2025, Iran expects to expand the use of Russia’s Mir payment cards nationwide.

Iran’s Quds Force official: Disarming Hezbollah ‘to never happen’

Hezbollah

Brigadier General Iraj Masjedi, the Quds Force’s coordinating deputy, stated that neither the Lebanese people nor Hezbollah would accept such a move, emphasizing that the group’s weapons are seen as essential for defending Lebanon against Israeli aggression.

“The issue of disarming the resistance is not new,” General Masjedi said, “but it will never happen. The resistance’s weapons belong to the people of Lebanon and are for the defense of their land.”

The comments come as Iran’s regional ally Hezbollah has rejected a US-backed disarmament plan, warning of civil war if forced to lay down arms.

The top commander also highlighted the enhanced readiness of Iranian armed forces involving regional resistance groups, following the 12-day conflict with Israel two month ago.

General Masjedi warned that any hostile actions against Iran would be met with “a strong and decisive response.”

“The capabilities of our forces have increased significantly,” he said, adding, “we are fully prepared to respond to any threat.”

He also secured three gold medals and one silver at the Asian Games, becoming a consistent podium finisher throughout the 1980s and early 1990s.

The Iranian Wrestling Federation expressed its condolences, praising Soukhteh Saraei as a “remarkable athlete and role model” who left a lasting impact on the nation’s wrestling community.

Russia has made ‘significant concessions’ amid Trump-led peace negotiations: Vance

Trump and Putin

“I think the Russians have made significant concessions to President Trump for the first time in 3.5 years of this conflict. They’ve actually been willing to be flexible on some of their core demands. They’ve talked about what would be necessary to end the war,” Vance said.

When asked to clarify which “concessions” Russia has made — especially given Moscow’s refusal to accept U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire proposal and a bilateral meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin — Vance responded: “I didn’t say they conceded on everything.”

“But what they have conceded is the recognition that Ukraine will have territorial integrity after the war,” he continued.

“They’ve recognized that they’re not going to be able to install a puppet regime in Kyiv — that was, of course, a major demand at the beginning. And importantly they’ve acknowledged that there is going to be some security guarantee to the territorial integrity of Ukraine.”

When asked about a recent Russian strike on an American-owned factory in Ukraine, Vance stated that he “didn’t like it,” but added that “this is a war” — seemingly dismissing ongoing Russian attacks on non-military targets.

He also praised Trump’s diplomatic approach, contrasting it with that of former U.S. President Joe Biden.

“President Trump has done more to apply pressure and to apply economic leverage to the Russians… than Joe Biden,” Vance said, adding, “We have a president who’s engaging in energetic diplomacy to try to stop the killing.”

On the question of future sanctions, Vance said: “sanctions aren’t off the table, but we’re going to make these determinations on a case-by-case basis.”

When asked on how the Trump administration plans to apply pressure on Moscow without imposing new sanctions, Vance did not provide a direct answer, instead pointing to continued diplomacy as the administration’s strategy for ending Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Tasnim News Agency: Iran, European countries to resume nuclear talks in Geneva on Tuesday

Citing informed sources, Tasnim News Agency reported that the negotiations will focus on nuclear-related issues and the lifting of sanctions.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, will lead Tehran’s delegation, while deputy foreign ministers will represent the three European countries.

The upcoming meeting follows a joint phone conversation on Friday between the foreign ministers of the three European nations, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

During that call, Araghchi reiterated Iran’s opposition to the so-called “snapback” mechanism, arguing that the European countries lack the legal and moral grounds to invoke it, and warning of the potential consequences of such a move.

The European officials expressed willingness to pursue a diplomatic solution to address the ongoing tensions surrounding the 2015 nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
