520 people killed in road accidents in Iran since March 17

The head of the Iranian Police Traffic Control Headquarters says 520 people have died in car accidents since March 17 that was the eve of the Persian New Year, Nowruz.

  1. Colonel Shirani said there is still heavy congestion in northern parts of the country, adding majority of the 500 thousand cars that have traveled to the provinces of Gilan and Mazandaran since March 17 are still there.

Northern Iran is a popular tourist destination for Iranians and they in their thousands rush to the region during holidays each year.

Many car accidents happen on the roads to northern cities as well that claim a number of lives.
