Spokesman Reiterates Iran’s Sovereignty over Persian Gulf Islands

The three Persian Gulf islands of Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs are indispensable parts of Iran, the country’s Foreign Ministry spokesman underlined, dismissing recent anti-Iran claims about the islands raised by the Arab League chief.

The three islands are part of Iran’s territory, Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday, in reaction to the Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, who raised doubt about Iran’s sovereignty over the islands at a news conference in Bahrain’s Manama on Monday.

“Repetition of such improper stances has not and will not have any impact on the historical, geographical and legal facts,” the spokesman underscored.

Qassemi further recommended Aboul Gheit to gain a better knowledge of the realities in the Persian Gulf region by spending more time to study history and geography.

The islands of the Greater Tunb, the Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa have historically been part of Iran, proof of which can be found and corroborated by countless historical, legal, and geographical documents in Iran and other parts of the world.
