UN says Israel placed nearly 84% of Gaza Strip under evacuation orders

Gaza War

Citing the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), deputy spokesman Farhan Haq told reporters during a news conference that Israel’s “ongoing bombardment and hostilities in Gaza continue to kill, injure and displace Palestinians – as well as damage and destroy the homes and infrastructure they rely on.”

He said “two evacuation orders were issued by the Israeli military over the weekend for Khan Younis, mostly for areas that were previously placed under evacuation.”

The orders have affected around 23 displacement sites, 14 water, sanitation and hygiene facilities and four educational facilities.

“In total, about 305 square kilometers (117.7 square miles), or nearly 84% of the Gaza Strip, have been placed under evacuation orders by the Israeli military,” he said.

Haq also noted that the entry of aid supplies into Gaza is severely restricted due to “active hostilities, access constraints, high levels of insecurity, the lack of public order and safety” and other factors.

Asked whether a genocide is unfolding in Gaza, Haq said there would have to be “a judicial ruling” by appropriate courts to label it as genocide.

Referring to his previous statements regarding the situation across the Gaza Strip, he said “these are alarming figures for any conflict anywhere” and called for a cease-fire.

Flouting a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire, Israel has faced international condemnation amid its continued brutal offensive on Gaza since an attack last October by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.

Nearly 40,000 Palestinians have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 92,000 others injured, according to local health authorities.

Over 10 months into the Israeli war, vast tracts of Gaza lie in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water, and medicine.

Iran President to UK PM: West support for Israel, encouraging more crimes

Masoud Pezeshkian Keir Starmer

During the phone call, on Monday evening, President Pezeshkian pointed out that punitive attacks against the aggressor is the legal right of all countries and an effective measure to stop aggression and crimes.

President Pezeshkian also said the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that war is not in the interest of any country anywhere in the world.

His comments follow Iran’s threats to take retaliatory measures against Israel, following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, in Tehran by the regime.

The Iranian president also said the Islamic Republic welcomes the expansion of ties with Britain and the resumption of nuclear talks, saying the negotiations would bear fruit only when all parties involved, live up to their commitments.

Keir Starmer, in turn, emphasized the need to stop the Gaza war and the dispatch of aid to the Palestinian people, calling for Iran’s contribution to that end.

The British prime minister also voiced readiness for enhanced ties with Iran, expressing hope that the new ambassadors of the two countries will start their missions as soon as possible.

Located in downtown Tehran, on Neauphle-le-Château Street, the museum was originally inaugurated in 1950 before being closed down and was reopened earlier this year on April 14.

But the museum does not only draw in children but also many adults and even the elderly enjoy watching and playing with their childhood nostalgic characters.

The special interior design of the museum has added to its beauty.

Iran: US primary promoter of terror in West Asia

Iravani

Iravani made the remarks in a letter addressed to the world body’s Security Council (UNSC) on Monday.

He wrote the message in reaction to allegations that had been leveled by the American UN envoy Linda Thomas-Greenfield at a UNSC briefing earlier in the month. Using the event, which was being held under the agenda of “threat to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts,” the American official had accused the Islamic Republic of “supporting terrorism in the region.”

Iravani called the accusation “unwarranted and misleading,” saying Thomas-Greenfield had deviated from the briefing’s agenda by bringing up such an allegation.

“The Islamic Republic categorically rejects and strongly condemns this baseless allegation and irresponsible behavior by the United States’ representative,” he added.

“It is unequivocally clear that the United States, not Iran, is the primary advocate and propagator of terrorism, both in the region and globally,” the envoy asserted.

Iravani said it was “both ironic and shameful” that the United States was throwing such accusation against the Islamic Republic at the same time as providing staunch political and military support for the Israeli regime’s ongoing war of genocide against the Gaza Strip.

Nearly 40,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the brutal military onslaught that began on October 7 last year.

Last month, The New York Times revealed that the US had armed the regime with upwards of 25,000 bombs and missiles since the onset of the war.

According to the report, the American arms shipments to the occupied Palestinian territories throughout the war had featured over 20,000 unguided bombs, some 2,600 guided bombs, and 3,000 surgical strike missiles.

A month earlier, The Washington Post had also reported that the US had supplied the regime with over $6.5 billion in military supplies since the beginning of the warfare.

The sheer increase comes while Washington’s annual so-called military aid for Tel Aviv stands at around $3.3 billion.

Iravani underlined how the American support was being used by Tel Aviv towards “terrorizing and massacring the innocent people of Palestine…, prolonging the bloodshed and horror in the Gaza Strip.”

He cited the regime’s most recent massacre of more than 120 people in an attack on the prayer hall of the al-Tabaeen School in Gaza City during a mass prayer at dawn, calling it “a result of such ironclad support of the US.”

The ambassador also pointed to the backing that the US has been providing for the terrorist groups wreaking havoc across the region.
Various regional media outlets and officials have similarly found Washington culpable of providing arms support and training for the terror outfits, such as the Daesh and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham Takfiri groups, towards subversive and destabilizing goals.

The support, Iravani underscored, “is further evidence of how the United States is the principal sponsor of terrorism in the region.”

“Given such a dark record, the United States has no standing to accuse or lecture other members of the United Nations,” he concluded.

One Israeli captive killed, two women ‘seriously wounded’: Hamas

Israel Hostages

Abu Obaida, the official spokesman for the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, said that a committee had been formed to investigate the incidents and the details of the probe would be announced later. Abu Obaida added that attempts are being made to save the lives of the two women.

“The enemy government (Israel) bears full responsibility for these massacres and the resulting reactions that affect the lives of Zionist prisoners,” he stated in a statement posted on Telegram.

The statement offered no further details and it’s unclear what condition the women captives are in.

The incident is the first time that the Qassam Brigades have publicly said one of its guards killed an Israeli hostage. Previously, the group has announced the deaths of several hostages, blaming their deaths on Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip.

An Israeli army spokesperson responded to the news, saying that “there is no intelligence document to confirm or refute Hamas’ allegations”.

“We continue to investigate the credibility of the statement and will provide information where we have it,” Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee wrote on X.

The killing of the hostage comes after an Israeli air strike on a school housing displaced Palestinians killed 100 people. The strike took place while Palestinians were performing dawn prayers.

On Saturday, an Israeli air strike on a Gaza City school complex housing displaced Palestinian families killed around 100 people.

A Palestinian civil defence worker told MEE that “most of those killed were children and elderly people”, and they were reduced to shreds and burned body parts due to the intensity of the air strikes.

Israel claimed the prayer hall contained a “military facility” and that 31 of those killed were “terrorists”. But a preliminary investigation by the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor found the list of names provided by the military as “terrorists” killed included several inaccuracies.

At least three people had been killed in strikes earlier in the war, and the list also included the names of three elderly people who had no military connections, including a school principal, the deputy mayor of Beit Hanoun and a university professor, as well as several Hamas opponents.

The incident also comes several weeks after Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated, in what Hamas said was an Israeli strike in Tehran where Haniyeh was visiting.

Hamas chose Yahya Sinwar, who has been leading Hamas inside Gaza, as the new leader of its political bureau.

Putin says Ukraine to receive proper response in Russia’s border regions

Vladimir Putin

“The enemy will certainly receive a proper response, and all the goals we face will undoubtedly be achieved,” Putin said at an operational meeting with representatives of the law enforcement on the situation in the Kursk region.

The relative calm situation in the Bryansk Region today does not guarantee that this will continue, we need to prepare for different scenarios, Putin continued.

Kiev’s action in Russia’s Kursk Region aims to stop the offensive of Russian troops along the front line, Putin said.

“Such actions, of course, pursue the main military goal of stopping the offensive of our troops to completely liberate the territory of the Lugansk [also known as Luhansk] and Donetsk People’s Republics, the territory of Novorossiya,” he added.

The pace of the offensive of the Russian forces on the front line after the events in the Kursk Region not only did not decrease, but increased by 1.5 times, the president said, adding that despite Kiev’s provocations, Russian troops were advancing along the entire line of contact.

He pledged that an assessment of the current developments in Russia’s Kursk Region would be made.

The main task of the Russian Defense Ministry at the moment is to push the Ukrainian troops back from Russian territory, the president added. Russian border guards must ensure reliable protection of the state borders, he also said.

The fight against Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups is one of the main tasks of work in the Kursk Region, Putin added.

The defense ministry must kick the enemy out of the region, Putin stressed.

The situation in the Kursk Region shows that Kiev rejects all the peace proposals of Moscow and mediators, Putin stated.

“Apparently, the enemy is striving to improve its negotiating positions in the future, but what kind of negotiations can we talk about at all with people who indiscriminately strike at civilians, civilian infrastructure, or try to create a threat to nuclear energy facilities? What can we talk about with them at all?”

Ukraine launched an attack on Kursk Region last week, the largest cross-border assault since the outbreak of the conflict, with media reports suggesting that the offensive involved some of Kiev’s best-equipped brigades. While Ukrainian forces made some gains, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed the advance had been halted. The Russian military has estimated Kiev’s losses at around 1,600 troops and 200 armored vehicles.

FM pick of President Pezeshkian vows strong ties with China and Russia

Abbas Araghchi

Araqchi said that under him, the Foreign Ministry will pursue a comprehensive, active and effective diplomacy with a balanced and applied approach.

He added that he will push for full coordination between the military and the Foreign Ministry and will also make an effort to strength pro-Iran governments and groups.

Araqchi also said if he is approved as the top diplomat, the Foreign Ministry will throw its full support behind the axis of resistance and will do its best to help the oppressed Palestinian people to achieve their rights. According to Pezeshkian’s foreign minister pick, he will interact with Europe based on dignity and mutual respect.

Elsewhere, Araqchi said he will try to get anti-Iran sanctions lifted through targeted and non-attrition talks without compromising Iran’s dignity.

He also promised that Iran will pursue strong ties with China and Russia.

President Pezeshkian presented the list of his cabinet to the parliament on Sunday.

Iran says Israel’s terror actions expanded scope of Gaza war

Hamas Ismail Haniyeh

Bagheri underlined the need for strengthening and expanding strategic ties between the two countries in order to implement the 25-year comprehensive strategic partnership agreement and continue consultations over regional and international issues.

Referring to the Zionist regime’s brutal attack on Al-Tabin School of Gaza and its killing of dozens of homeless civilians, the Iranian acting foreign minister thanked the Chinese government for condemning the act.

He said the murderous and terrorist acts of the usurping Zionist regime against Yemen, Lebanon and, especially, the terrorist attack in Tehran have increased the scope of tensions and war beyond the occupied Palestinian territories and this has led to the violation of regional and international stability and security.

Bagheri stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has an inherent and legitimate right to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty against the Zionist regime’s aggression.

He then underscored the necessity of continuing interactions and consultations between Tehran and Beijing and also the need for them to continue condemning and countering the aggressive and murderous acts of the Zionist regime.

During the phone conversation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi underlined the important and influential role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the West Asian region and pointed to the strategic relations between the two countries.

He said Iran is one of the most important and powerful countries in the region, and China and Iran are strategic partners of each other.
Wang noted that China always views relations with Iran from a strategic and long-term perspective and is willing to cooperate with the new administration in Tehran in order to continue boosting bilateral ties in line with common interests.

The top Chinese diplomat went on to say that his country wants to advance practical cooperation with Iran in all spheres and press ahead with the comprehensive cooperation partnership agreement with Tehran.

Wang also described the recent attack of the Zionist regime on Al-Tabin School in Gaza as shocking. He emphasized that world countries agree more than ever on the need to establish an independent Palestinian state.

Wang referred to the role of Iran and China in establishing and supporting regional stability and security, saying Beijing categorically condemns the recent terrorist attack in Tehran and believes that this act is a serious violation of fundamental principles of international law and an attack on Iran’s sovereignty and honor that directly harms the ceasefire process in Gaza and undermines the stability and security of the region.

Wang added China understands the approach of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this regard.

He also underscored the need for the international community to make efforts to stop the hostilities and provide the necessary conditions for establishing a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza.

He noted that China supports Iran’s legal efforts to defend its sovereignty, security and national dignity and is willing to maintain close communications with Iran in order to preserve peace and stability in the region.

Ayatollah Khamenei lauds Iran’s Olympic athletes

Ayatollah Khamenei

Ayatollah Khamenei on Monday received a report from the president of the National Olympic Committee of Iran about the recent Olympic Games.

The leader wrote down a note in the margin of the report, thanking the Iranian athletes and their coaches.

“I sincerely thank the dear athletes with good morale and determination, the presidents of federations and coaches, and the National Olympic Committee who contributed to the country’s happiness and pride in the sports sphere,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Iran ranked 21st among over 200 world countries after its Olympic squad grabbed 3 golds, 6 silvers and 3 bronzes in wrestling and taekwondo in Paris.

Russia orders more evacuations as Ukraine’s attacks continue

Russia Ukraine War

Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region in southern Russia, stated people living in the Krasnoyaruzhsky district were being relocated to safer places. This comes after the evacuations over the weekend of thousands of people living in the neighboring Kursk region.

“We’re having a disturbing morning – enemy activities on the border of Krasnoyaruzhsky district. I am sure that our military will do everything to cope with this threat. But to protect the life and health of our people, we are beginning to relocate people who live in the Krasnoyaruzhsky district to safer places,” he said in a statement posted on his official Telegram channel.

About 11,000 residents from Krasnoyaruzhsky district were evacuated, the head of the district administration Adrei Miskov noted later.

The incursion, which is now affecting two Russian regions, is seen as something of a game-changer in the conflict. The Ukrainian military has in the past regularly attacked targets inside the Belgorod region with drones and missiles, but until last week Kyiv had not launched any official ground incursions across the border in the two and half years since the start of the full-scale war.

The extent of the operation remains unclear.

An influential Russian military blog Rybar said on Monday that “apparently the [Armed Forces of Ukraine] is not shying away from plans to stretch our defensive formations, create the maximum number of points of tension, and attempt to break through in the east to cut Belgorod off from the north”.

Also, several Russian military bloggers reported an attempt by Ukrainian armed forces to attack a border crossing in the Belgorod region Monday morning, in the district that Russian authorities say is being evacuated.

The operation, which started last Tuesday, has been shrouded in mystery. Ukrainian officials have for days remained silent, refusing to comment on reports of Ukrainian troops operating inside Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky finally confirmed Kyiv’s troops crossed into Russia on Saturday, stating in his nightly address to the nation that “Ukraine is proving that it really knows how to restore justice and guarantees exactly the kind of pressure that is needed – pressure on the aggressor”.

The reason for the attack is also unclear. Ukraine has been under increased pressure along the 600-mile frontline as Moscow continues its slow, grinding offensive, inching towards several strategically important towns and roads in eastern Ukraine.

The cross-border incursion could be an attempt to divert Russian resources elsewhere. Given the spate of more negative developments from the frontline, the news of a successful incursion help Kyiv boost the morale of its troops and civilian population.

Moscow has been scrambling to contain the attack. Russian authorities imposed a sweeping counter-terror operation in the three border regions, but stopped short of declaring the incursion an act of war.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a US-based conflict monitoring group, announced this was likely an attempt by the Kremlin to deliberately downplay the assault to prevent domestic panic or backlash over the fact that Russia was unable to defend its own borders.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin has refrained from officially declaring a state of war, has repeatedly demonstrated his unwillingness to transfer Russian society fully to a war-time footing, and has forgone declaring general mobilization as part of wider efforts to prevent domestic discontent that could threaten the stability of (his) regime,” the ISW added.
