Police chief: 850,000 undocumented Afghan migrants expelled from Iran

Afghan Refugees

Answering a question posed by Tasnim News Agency, General Ahmad Reza Radan emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring that illegal foreign nationals cannot find employment or settle in the country.

He highlighted that some of these individuals voluntarily surrendered, while others were identified and arrested.

When asked whether the expulsion of illegal foreign nationals would impact crime reduction, General Radan affirmed that it would. However, he noted that the precise results would need to be evaluated over the long term.

The step aligns with Iran’s ongoing efforts to address social and economic challenges linked to millions of illegal migrants from neighboring Afghanistan.

With a considerable influx of migrants, primarily from Afghanistan, Iran has aimed to balance the impacts of undocumented residents on resources and security.

The increased enforcement reflects broader national policies aimed at maintaining control over demographic shifts and protecting the domestic job market.

Unofficial sources put the number Afghan refugees in Iran at 10 million.

Israeli fighter jets did not enter Iran’s airspace during  assault: Spokesman

Esmail Baghaei

In a press conference on Monday, Baghaei emphasized that Tehran will utilize all available tools to deliver a decisive response to the recent attacks by the Zionist regime against Iran’s military centers, stressing that the Islamic Republic is resolute and serious in this regard.

He referred to the Zionist regime’s raids on several military centers in Iran, which occurred early Saturday morning, affirming that Tehran will not renounce its right to respond to Zionist aggressions. Tehran’s response will be proportionate to the nature of the attack.

He denied reports of Israeli jets entering Iranian airspace during the recent attacks, adding that Iran’s armed forces have shown they will not hesitate to deliver a decisive and regret-inducing response to any aggression against Iran’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Regarding US Vice President Kamala Harris’s request for Iran to refrain from responding to Israeli attacks, the spokesperson stated that the Americans are following the wrong path, and this instance is no exception. They should restrain the Zionist regime.

Baghaei also addressed the use of Iraqi territory by the Zionist regime for attacks against Iran, saying that Iran has informed the Iraqi government and hopes it will follow up on the matter. The Zionist regime has repeatedly violated the airspace of other countries to carry out aggressions against other nations.

He added that it is the legal, international, and moral duty of countries to prevent such actions, expressing confidence that no neighboring country has granted such permission to the regime.

China says supports Iran’s sovereignty, national dignity

Cong Peiwu

The ambassador made these remarks in an exclusive interview with Fars News Agency, commenting on the recent aggression by the Zionist regime against several military centers in Iran.

He stated that this military aggression reflects the negative impacts of the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. Beijing, while urging all parties to work towards peace and calm, consistently supports the resolution of issues through dialogue and consultations and opposes the escalation of conflicts and the spread of military adventurism.

The diplomat emphasized the role of the international community, particularly influential and major countries, in preventing further destabilization of the situation.

The Chinese Ambassador also referred to the recent BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, stating that the summit has opened a new phase of “Greater BRICS” cooperation and fostered new consensus on unity and the revival of the Global South, as well as the strategic and diplomatic leadership of the member countries.

Expressing appreciation for BRICS’ development, the envoy stated that the current global governance system is clearly lagging and does not fully reflect the representation and voice of the Global South.

He further noted that the meeting of the presidents of Iran and China on the sidelines of the BRICS summit has deepened political mutual trust between the two nations.

The Chinese diplomat stressed that regardless of changes in the international and regional landscape, China will continue its friendly cooperation with Iran.

He noted that with China assuming the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2025, China welcomes Iran’s active participation in this international organization.

In another part of the interview, he highlighted the Belt and Road Initiative, stressing that Iran’s active and positive participation in this initiative is very beneficial. China is pleased that the ancient Silk Road has intertwined with the modern Belt and Road in Iran.

The Chinese Ambassador also emphasized that the Comprehensive Cooperation Plan between Iran and China, signed in 2021, has yielded numerous results. This plan includes many areas of cooperation.

Iranians bid farewell to Army servicemen killed in Israeli attacks

Mourners gathered in the provinces of Kermanshah, Khuzestan, and Lorestan on Monday to bid farewell to four fallen personnel of the Iranian Army’s Air Defense Force, namely Hamzeh Jahandideh, Mohammad Mahdi Shahrokhi, Sajjad Mansouri and Mehdi Naghavi.

They carried the martyrs’ coffins, draped with the national Iranian flag, in the cities of Kermanshah, Ramhormoz, Shushtar, and Borujerd.

They condemned the terrorist Israeli raid on Iran and called for a strong response to the criminal regime’s atrocities.

In the early hours of Saturday, Israeli Air Force used the space available to the US military in Iraq to fire long-range air-to-air missiles at military installations in Iran’s Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces in flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

Iran announced that the attack was successfully intercepted and countered by the country’s air defense system and that it only caused limited damage to radar sites.

A statement from government spokesperson Bassim Alawadi said the letter condemns “the Zionist entity’s blatant violation of Iraq’s airspace and sovereignty by using Iraqi airspace to carry out an attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran on October 26”.

Alawadi added the Iraqi foreign ministry would raise “this violation” in talks with the US, Israel’s biggest arms supplier and most powerful diplomatic ally.

On Saturday, the Iranian Air Defense Forces said in a statement that the country’s integrated air defense system successfully intercepted and countered the Israeli strikes targeting military locations in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces.

The attacks caused limited damage in some locations and the dimensions of the incident are under investigation, the statement added.

The Iranian Army also announced that four of its servicemen had been martyred in the raids.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has also condemned the Israeli assault as a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter, reiterating the country’s right to defend itself against foreign acts of aggression.

IRGC chief warns Israel of ‘bitter consequences’ following deadly raid on Iran

Hossein Salami

In a message to the Iranian Army commander on Monday, Major General Salami offered his condolences on the martyrdom of four Air Defense Force servicemen in the recent “evil and aggressive” attack by the Zionist enemy’s warplanes against a number of facilities in Iran.

The IRGC chief said the “illegitimate and unlawful” attack by the Israeli regime, which was repelled thanks to the Iranian Air Defense’s preparedness, revealed the Zionist regime’s “miscalculation and its frustration in the battlefield in the war against the combatants of the great front of Islamic resistance, especially in Gaza and Lebanon”.

The commander also warned that the Israeli act of aggression will certainly have bitter and unimaginable consequences for the Zionist occupiers.

Plight of Palestinians in northern Gaza “unbearable”: UN chief

Gaza War

The plight of Palestinian civilians trapped in North Gaza is unbearable, Guterres’s spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said.

Israel, vowing to stop Hamas fighters from regrouping in the north of the Palestinian territory, has launched a major air and ground assault on October 6 and ordered residents to flee South, while no food or clear water arriving in the region.

The UN spokesperson stated that according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, hundreds of people have been killed in recent weeks and tens of thousands were forced to flee.

The Secretary-General is shocked by the harrowing levels of death, injury and destruction in the north, with civilians trapped under rubble, the sick and wounded going without life-saving health care, and families lacking food and shelter”, Dujarric added.

Israeli authorities are continuing to deny attempts to deliver humanitarian aid to those in need, Dujarric stressed, “with few exceptions, putting countless lives in peril”.

European Union foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell has also issued a statement underscoring what he called “the urgent need to respect” international humanitarian law in the besieged enclave

“By signing the Geneva Conventions, signatories have a legal responsibility to ensure adherence to international law by all parties involved. It is our duty to protect civilians and human rights, and it is high time to act on it,” he said.

“The too little information coming out from North Gaza still attests to a catastrophic level of killing, destruction and starvation, in addition to forced displacements of civilians while an entire population is under bombings, siege and risk of starvation, as well as being forced to choose between displacement or death,” he added.

The Israeli army has intensified its assault in northern Gaza amid a suffocating siege that has left tens of thousands of people without food and water.

The aggression, which began in early October, is the latest episode in Israel’s brutal offensive that has killed nearly 43,000 people, mostly women and children, and injured more than 100,000 since last October following an attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.

The Israeli onslaught has displaced nearly the entire population of the territory amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.

Israel army killed over 1,000 Palestinians in northern Gaza in 3 weeks: Report

Gaza War

Mahmoud Bassal, a spokesman for Palestinian Civil Defense, said in a video shared on social media that the Israeli army has killed over 1,000 Palestinians during its three-week-long military offensives in northern Gaza, which are still ongoing.

“More than 100,000 Palestinians in the areas of Jabalia, Beit Hanoun, and Beit Lahia are suffering from an Israeli siege and bombardment, while the other half of the population, which numbered around 200,000, has been forcibly displaced towards Gaza City, the closest governorate to the north,” Bassal told Anadolu.

He continued: “The Israeli army is killing anyone who tries to provide aid to the Palestinians trapped in the northern Gaza Strip, who are suffering from a lack of water, medicine, and food.”

“The Israeli occupation is practicing a policy of ethnic cleansing in northern Gaza amid international silence,” Bassal lamented.

He urged international and humanitarian organizations “to work immediately and urgently to save the Palestinians in northern Gaza.”

The Israeli army has continued a devastating offensive on the Gaza Strip since a Hamas attack last year, despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.

Nearly 43,000 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 100,000 others injured, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli onslaught has displaced almost the territory’s entire population amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.

38,000 illegal Afghan migrants expelled from Iran’s Kerman province

In a meeting with officials of the province, General Nasser Farshid emphasized the need for cooperation from local businesses to prevent the employment of illegal foreign nationals.

Kerman is among the hardest-hit provinces in Iran, facing significant challenges with illegal immigration from neighboring Afghanistan, which has led to population imbalances and increased unemployment.

While Iran has been praised for its inclusive policies, such as allowing Afghan children to attend school regardless of their documentation status, it has also faced criticism for its leniency towards undocumented immigrants.

The recent expulsions are part of the ongoing efforts to meet the target set by the government to repatriate 2 million illegal migrants before the Iranian year ends on March 20.

Earlier this month, General Ahmadreza Radan, the commander of Iran’s Law Enforcement Force, announced that since the initiation of the plan to expel illegal foreign nationals, there has been an increase in both voluntary surrenders and arrests of undocumented migrants.

The number of illegal immigrants in Iran is unofficially estimated to be around 10 million, with many seeking better economic opportunities or fleeing conflict in their home country, especially since in the 2021 takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban.

X suspends Hebrew account of Iran’s Leader

Ayatollah Khamenei

The account was suspended early Monday with a note saying, “X suspends accounts which violate the Rules,” without explaining further on the nature of violation.

The Leader’s account had opened Sunday with a message in Hebrew reading, “In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful,” as a sign of Islamic greeting.

Following Ayatollah Khamenei’s speech in Tehran on Sunday, KHAMENEI.IR media posted a second post in Hebrew from the Leader on X, formerly Twitter, regarding the recent Israeli strikes on Iran’s military sites on early Saturday, which spurred the media platform to suspend the account.

The message read, “The Zionist regime made a mistake and miscalculated regarding Iran. We will show them the power, capability, innovation, and will of the Iranian nation.”

X, owned by Elon Musk, has gained notoriety for suppressing or removing altogether pro-Palestine content since the Israeli regime unleashed its relentless onslaught on Palestine in October 2023.

Back in February, Meta removed Facebook and Instagram accounts on behalf of the Leader over his support of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas after its unprecedented operation against Israel on October 7, 2023.
