Judiciary: Jamshid Sharmahd dies before execution of death sentence

Jamshid Sharmahd

The Judiciary had prosecuted Sharmahd as an Iranian citizen who had also Getman citizenship.

Asghar Jahangir emphasized that even if a non-Iranian commits a crime within Iran, the country reserves the legal right to prosecute, punish, and address their actions accordingly.

Sharmahd was behind a series of terrorist attacks, including a 2008 attack against a religious congregation center in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz, which killed 14 people, including 5 women and an infant, and wounded hundreds more.

Israeli PM considers offering millions to Hamas for release of hostages

Israel Hostages

The Israeli Channel 12 reports that the prime minister has proposed offering Hamas “several million dollars” for each captive released.

The proposal also includes “safe passage” out of the Gaza Strip for captors and their families willing to free hostages.

According to the report, Netanyahu issued these instructions during a security meeting tonight, although his previous public appeal last month did not gain momentum.

Dozens of hostages taken from Israel during the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks are still being held in the besieged enclave. There are 101 hostages still held in the blockaded strip, Israeli authorities say, but as many as one-third of them are thought to be dead.

Israel has continued its military onslaught on Gaza following the attack by Hamas, despite a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire.

More than 43,000 Palestinians have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 102,000 injured, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli offensive has displaced almost the entire population of the territory amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.

Mediation efforts to reach a Gaza ceasefire and prisoner swap agreement between Israel and Hamas have failed over Netanyahu’s refusal to halt the war.

Israel’s army struggling with shortage of soldiers: Report

Israeli Army

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that there has been a 1% average decline in male soldier enlistments over the past years.

The daily noted that 33% of the soldiers have not completed their recruitment, while15% deserted and did not enlist with reserve formations entirely.

The total of those exempted from military service due to mental or medical reasons spiked from 4% to 8%.

There are 18,000 combat reserve soldiers and 20,000 combat support personnel who are registered as part of the reserve force. They do not join when called up.

The report added the commanders of the reserve brigades and battalions believe the matter “relates to serial evaders and cannot be brought in by force.”

Israel is dealing with the manpower issue at a time its military faces the debacle in the Gaza Strip. The military has also failed to achieve its goals in a meaningful way in southern Lebanon.

Dozens of soldiers have been killed in recent days on both battlefronts.

In October, the Israeli outlet HaMakom reported that an increasing number of soldiers are silently refusing orders to return to the battlefield due in large part to the resistance put up by the Palestinian fighters.

The soldiers say they are depressed, unmotivated, worn out and psychologically damaged.

The Israeli military has published the names of nearly 800 troops killed since October 2023, including more than 350 who were killed on the ground in Gaza.

The Resistance fronts say the number of military fatalities the regime has suffered is much higher as it keeps the real figures under the lid.

Iranians in Europe protest against EU sanctions on Iran Air

European Union Flag

According to a report published on the Change.org website, the petition states, “We, the Iranian nationals residing in Europe, regret the decision of the European Union and the UK government to sanction Iran Air.”

The signatories complained, “Every year, hundreds of thousands of Iranian travelers in Europe use this airline to visit their families and friends in Tehran, and the recent actions of the European governments have disrupted their travel plans.”

The European countries have sanctioned Iranian arlines alleging that Iran has supplied Russia with missiles to be used against Ukraine.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has called on the European Union to reverse its decision and “end this farce”, describing the move as unethical and a clear mistake based on unfounded allegations.

NAM condemns Israeli violation of Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity

Israel Air Force

In a statement released on Monday, the 121-member bloc of countries denounced the Israeli regime’s terrorist attack and expressed deep solidarity with the Iranian people and government, while condoling with the bereaved families of the martyrs.

By waging the attack against Iran, Israel violated the fundamental principles of the international law, the United Nations Charter, especially Article 2 (4), which explicitly prohibits the use of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of any country, it added.

NAM further held Israel accountable for the consequences of its deadly aggression.

The largest grouping of states worldwide after the UN also condemned Israel’s violation of Iraq’s sovereignty during the attack.

It further reiterated the inherent right of Iran and other affected countries to protect their sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and people based on the international law and the UN Charter.

Meanwhile, the bloc urged the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibility by openly condemning the Israeli act of aggression and taking necessary measures to prevent its repetition.

It also expressed concerns over Israel’s refusal to assume accountability for violations against the Palestinian, Lebanese, and other regional nations, emphasizing that the regime should be held accountable for its disregard of international legal obligations, UN Security Council resolutions, and the International Court of Justice rulings.

On October 26, Israeli fighter jets used US-controlled airspace over Iraq to fire projectiles at military installations in Iran’s Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces.

The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces confirmed that a significant number of the missiles were intercepted, and the Israeli warplanes were blocked from entering Iran’s airspace.

Iran has stressed it is resolved to respond to the act of aggression and will not abandon its right.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Saturday warned the United States and Israel that they will definitely receive a teeth-breaking response for their assault.

UN warns of humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza

Gaza War

“This has left us unable to confirm the conditions of people inside and we worry, obviously, for their safety,” he said.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has raised alarm about the dwindling supplies, Dujarric noted, adding that “the already limited humanitarian supplies entering Gaza have decreased even further since October”.

The World Food Programme has recently warned that the lack of food and other vital humanitarian supplies entering the Gaza Strip could soon escalate into famine unless immediate action is taken.

The UN agency said it reached only 42 percent of the 1.1 million people targeted for food assistance in October due to a lack of supplies and access.

“North Gaza remains under siege since early October, with humanitarian agencies unable to reach people in need. Urgent international effort is required to allow the delivery of critical assistance and grant humanitarian agencies access to the area,” it added.

The Israeli army has continued a deadly onslaught in northern Gaza since early October to reportedly prevent the Palestinian resistance group Hamas from regrouping amid a siege on the area. Palestinians, however, accuse Israel of seeking to occupy the area and forcibly displace its residents.

More than 1,800 people have been killed and 4,000 wounded in northern Gaza since the offensive began, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

The aggression is the latest episode in a brutal Israeli war on Gaza since an attack by Hamas in October last year, despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.

More than 43,300 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 102,000 others injured, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli assault has displaced almost the territory’s entire population amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.

Iran FM urges EU to ‘make up for mistakes’, reverse airline sanctions

Iran Air

In a message on X social media platform, Araghchi wrote, “The EU recently targeted ordinary Iranians and other travelers by banning our airlines from Europe. It did so on the basis of the false and unfounded claim that Iran has delivered ballistic missiles to Russia for use in #Ukraine.”

Araghchi included a video of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, highlighting that even he has clearly stated that no Iranian missiles have been delivered to Russia.

“High time for the EU to end this farce. The targeting of ordinary Iranians based on thin air is immoral and plain wrong. It must be immediately reversed,” he wrote.

Foreign ministers from the European Union approved new sanctions against seven individuals and seven entities linked to Iran after Kiev’s Western allies accused Tehran of sending ballistic missiles to Russia to aid in its war.

The move spurred Iranians living in the EU as well as the UK to slam the ban on flights by Iran’s national airline, saying it affects hundreds of thousands of passengers every year.

UNRWA ban ‘will not make Israel safer’: WHO chief

UNRWA

“Let me be clear: There is simply no alternative to UNRWA,” Tedros said.

“This ban will not make Israel safer. It will only deepen the suffering of the people of Gaza and increase the risk of disease outbreaks,” he added.

Tedros’s comments came after Israel announced it formally notified the UN of its decision to sever ties with UNRWA after Israeli lawmakers backed the move last week.

UNRWA on Monday announced Israel’s ban on its operations would lead to the “collapse” of humanitarian work in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

“If this law is implemented, it would be likely to cause the collapse of the international humanitarian operation in the Gaza Strip – an operation of which UNRWA is the backbone,” Jonathan Fowler, UNRWA spokesman, told the AFP news agency.

The UN agency provides education, healthcare and other basic services to Palestinian refugees from the 1948 war surrounding Israel’s creation and their descendants, who now number nearly six million. Refugee families make up the majority of Gaza’s 2.3 million population.

Aid groups have warned that Israel’s ban on UNRWA could create further obstacles to addressing a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Israel has said other UN agencies and aid groups can fill the gap, but those organisations insist UNRWA is essential.

Israel’s notification to the UN came as the World Food Programme (WFP) on Monday warned that the humanitarian situation in Gaza “could soon escalate into famine” as Israeli forces continue to severely restrict the entry of food and other supplies into the enclave.

World Food Programme has also announced that the agency cannot serve as a replacement for UNRWA in Gaza.

“We cannot replace the important functions of the UNRWA in Gaza, such as the administration of emergency shelters, schools and health centres,” Martin Frick, head of the WFP Berlin office, told German media group RND.

The Israeli army has continued a deadly onslaught in northern Gaza since early October to reportedly prevent the Palestinian resistance group Hamas from regrouping amid a siege on the area. Palestinians, however, accuse Israel of seeking to occupy the area and forcibly displace its residents.

More than 1,200 people have been killed in northern Gaza since the offensive began, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

IRGC: 10 terrorists eliminated, arrested in southeastern Iran

Iranian security forces

Brigadier General Ahmad Shafaei, Deputy Commander of the Quds Base of the IRGC Ground Force and spokesperson for the Martyrs of Security military operation stated that security forces from the Sistan and Baluchestan Intelligence Department, operational units of the Quds Base, and anti-terrorism units of the Law Enforcement Force successfully dealt significant blows to enemy proxy terrorist teams.

He further elaborated that since the beginning of the Martyrs of Security operation last week, a total of 14 terrorists have been arrested, and eight have been killed.

Among those arrested are key members of the terrorist group responsible for the killing of security forces in the Gohar Kuh region of Taftan in Sistan and Baluchestan.

The senior commander also said a large cache of weapons and ammunition, including American-made arms, has been seized from the terrorists.

He emphasized that efforts to apprehend those responsible for creating unrest and insecurity in the province are ongoing.

Iranian forces have stepped up security measures in the areas bordering Pakistan to stem the infiltration of militants and mercenaries, mainly from the so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group, from the neighboring country.

Russian rocket launches Iranian satellites into orbit

Iranian satellite

The Soyuz-2.1 spacecraft lifted off as scheduled from the Vostochny Cosmodrome launchpad in far eastern Russia and put its payload into a designated orbit nine minutes after the launch on Tuesday.

Roscosmos noted that two Russian Ionosfera-M satellites – designed to monitor the space weather around Earth – and 53 small satellites, including two from Iran, were placed into orbit successfully.

Among the 53 small satellites, the two Iranian satellites were identified as the Kowsar, a high-resolution imaging satellite, and Hodhod, a small communications satellite. A Russian-Chinese student satellite, Druzhba ATURK, was also placed into orbit.

The Iranian satellites are the first launched on behalf of the country’s private sector. The Kowsar has an expected lifespan of three years and the Hodhod should operate for four years.

In 2022, a Russian rocket launched an Iranian Earth observation satellite called Khayyam, which was built in Russia at Tehran’s request. Russia put another Iranian satellite named Pars-1 into orbit in February.

The Pars-1 is a research satellite that will scan Iran’s topography from orbit, Iran’s state media reported at the time.

The latest satellite launch comes as Russia and Iran expand ties in various spheres. Moscow and Tehran are also planning to further bolster their ties with a “comprehensive strategic partnership”, set to be signed during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s planned visit to Russia, the date for which has yet to be confirmed.
