UN warns of humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza

Gaza War

“This has left us unable to confirm the conditions of people inside and we worry, obviously, for their safety,” he said.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has raised alarm about the dwindling supplies, Dujarric noted, adding that “the already limited humanitarian supplies entering Gaza have decreased even further since October”.

The World Food Programme has recently warned that the lack of food and other vital humanitarian supplies entering the Gaza Strip could soon escalate into famine unless immediate action is taken.

The UN agency said it reached only 42 percent of the 1.1 million people targeted for food assistance in October due to a lack of supplies and access.

“North Gaza remains under siege since early October, with humanitarian agencies unable to reach people in need. Urgent international effort is required to allow the delivery of critical assistance and grant humanitarian agencies access to the area,” it added.

The Israeli army has continued a deadly onslaught in northern Gaza since early October to reportedly prevent the Palestinian resistance group Hamas from regrouping amid a siege on the area. Palestinians, however, accuse Israel of seeking to occupy the area and forcibly displace its residents.

More than 1,800 people have been killed and 4,000 wounded in northern Gaza since the offensive began, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

The aggression is the latest episode in a brutal Israeli war on Gaza since an attack by Hamas in October last year, despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire.

More than 43,300 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 102,000 others injured, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli assault has displaced almost the territory’s entire population amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.

Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.

Iran FM urges EU to ‘make up for mistakes’, reverse airline sanctions

Iran Air

In a message on X social media platform, Araghchi wrote, “The EU recently targeted ordinary Iranians and other travelers by banning our airlines from Europe. It did so on the basis of the false and unfounded claim that Iran has delivered ballistic missiles to Russia for use in #Ukraine.”

Araghchi included a video of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, highlighting that even he has clearly stated that no Iranian missiles have been delivered to Russia.

“High time for the EU to end this farce. The targeting of ordinary Iranians based on thin air is immoral and plain wrong. It must be immediately reversed,” he wrote.

Foreign ministers from the European Union approved new sanctions against seven individuals and seven entities linked to Iran after Kiev’s Western allies accused Tehran of sending ballistic missiles to Russia to aid in its war.

The move spurred Iranians living in the EU as well as the UK to slam the ban on flights by Iran’s national airline, saying it affects hundreds of thousands of passengers every year.

UNRWA ban ‘will not make Israel safer’: WHO chief

UNRWA

“Let me be clear: There is simply no alternative to UNRWA,” Tedros said.

“This ban will not make Israel safer. It will only deepen the suffering of the people of Gaza and increase the risk of disease outbreaks,” he added.

Tedros’s comments came after Israel announced it formally notified the UN of its decision to sever ties with UNRWA after Israeli lawmakers backed the move last week.

UNRWA on Monday announced Israel’s ban on its operations would lead to the “collapse” of humanitarian work in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

“If this law is implemented, it would be likely to cause the collapse of the international humanitarian operation in the Gaza Strip – an operation of which UNRWA is the backbone,” Jonathan Fowler, UNRWA spokesman, told the AFP news agency.

The UN agency provides education, healthcare and other basic services to Palestinian refugees from the 1948 war surrounding Israel’s creation and their descendants, who now number nearly six million. Refugee families make up the majority of Gaza’s 2.3 million population.

Aid groups have warned that Israel’s ban on UNRWA could create further obstacles to addressing a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Israel has said other UN agencies and aid groups can fill the gap, but those organisations insist UNRWA is essential.

Israel’s notification to the UN came as the World Food Programme (WFP) on Monday warned that the humanitarian situation in Gaza “could soon escalate into famine” as Israeli forces continue to severely restrict the entry of food and other supplies into the enclave.

World Food Programme has also announced that the agency cannot serve as a replacement for UNRWA in Gaza.

“We cannot replace the important functions of the UNRWA in Gaza, such as the administration of emergency shelters, schools and health centres,” Martin Frick, head of the WFP Berlin office, told German media group RND.

The Israeli army has continued a deadly onslaught in northern Gaza since early October to reportedly prevent the Palestinian resistance group Hamas from regrouping amid a siege on the area. Palestinians, however, accuse Israel of seeking to occupy the area and forcibly displace its residents.

More than 1,200 people have been killed in northern Gaza since the offensive began, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

IRGC: 10 terrorists eliminated, arrested in southeastern Iran

Iranian security forces

Brigadier General Ahmad Shafaei, Deputy Commander of the Quds Base of the IRGC Ground Force and spokesperson for the Martyrs of Security military operation stated that security forces from the Sistan and Baluchestan Intelligence Department, operational units of the Quds Base, and anti-terrorism units of the Law Enforcement Force successfully dealt significant blows to enemy proxy terrorist teams.

He further elaborated that since the beginning of the Martyrs of Security operation last week, a total of 14 terrorists have been arrested, and eight have been killed.

Among those arrested are key members of the terrorist group responsible for the killing of security forces in the Gohar Kuh region of Taftan in Sistan and Baluchestan.

The senior commander also said a large cache of weapons and ammunition, including American-made arms, has been seized from the terrorists.

He emphasized that efforts to apprehend those responsible for creating unrest and insecurity in the province are ongoing.

Iranian forces have stepped up security measures in the areas bordering Pakistan to stem the infiltration of militants and mercenaries, mainly from the so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group, from the neighboring country.

Russian rocket launches Iranian satellites into orbit

Iranian satellite

The Soyuz-2.1 spacecraft lifted off as scheduled from the Vostochny Cosmodrome launchpad in far eastern Russia and put its payload into a designated orbit nine minutes after the launch on Tuesday.

Roscosmos noted that two Russian Ionosfera-M satellites – designed to monitor the space weather around Earth – and 53 small satellites, including two from Iran, were placed into orbit successfully.

Among the 53 small satellites, the two Iranian satellites were identified as the Kowsar, a high-resolution imaging satellite, and Hodhod, a small communications satellite. A Russian-Chinese student satellite, Druzhba ATURK, was also placed into orbit.

The Iranian satellites are the first launched on behalf of the country’s private sector. The Kowsar has an expected lifespan of three years and the Hodhod should operate for four years.

In 2022, a Russian rocket launched an Iranian Earth observation satellite called Khayyam, which was built in Russia at Tehran’s request. Russia put another Iranian satellite named Pars-1 into orbit in February.

The Pars-1 is a research satellite that will scan Iran’s topography from orbit, Iran’s state media reported at the time.

The latest satellite launch comes as Russia and Iran expand ties in various spheres. Moscow and Tehran are also planning to further bolster their ties with a “comprehensive strategic partnership”, set to be signed during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s planned visit to Russia, the date for which has yet to be confirmed.

Moscow claims US, UK pushing ‘continental Europe’ to fight Russia

Kremlin

Lavrov issued the warning during his speech at the Inventing the Future symposium in Moscow on Monday.

Speaking about the Ukraine conflict, the top diplomat stressed that “the Anglo-Saxons [the US and UK] expect to defeat our country with the hands of the Kiev regime, just like Hitler, gathering most of Europe’s countries under the Nazi banner”.

“And, as a back-up plan, in case [Ukrainian leader Vladimir] Zelensky’s regime fails, they are preparing continental Europe to rush into a suicidal adventure and enter into a direct armed conflict with Russia,” he said.

Lavrov expressed regret that the ruling elites in many European countries do not see a future for themselves in forming a multipolar world. Instead, they are “seeking salvation from an overseas hegemon,” he said.

He recalled how German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the announcement in July that the US would place intermediate-range missiles in Germany. According to Lavrov, this was not the only time when Scholz failed to stand up for his country.

“The German government has ashamedly come to terms with the humiliating destruction of the Nord Stream gas pipelines to the detriment of the fundamental interests of the German economy and the German people,” the foreign minister added.

Senior Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin, have previously pointed the finger at the US as a likely culprit for the Nord Stream explosions in September 2022.

They have argued that Washington had the technical means to carry out the operation, and stood to gain the most from the destruction of the key pipelines, considering that the attack disrupted Russian energy supplies to the EU and forced the bloc to shift to more expensive US-supplied liquefied natural gas.

Lavrov also described as “reckless” proposals made by Ukraine and some in the West to allow Kiev to use foreign-supplied weapons for strikes deep into Russian territory.

“I will not talk about the senselessness of the very idea of fighting against Russia until victory. At best, this will sharply reduce the chances of potential participants in such a war for any role in a multipolar future,” he warned.

Iran FM: Tehran reserves right to respond to territorial integrity breaches

Abbas Araghchi

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty discussed the latest regional developments during a telephone conversation.

The two top diplomats underlined the need to increase international efforts to stop the Zionist regime’s crimes against Gaza and Lebanon, establish a ceasefire and prevent an escalation of tension in the region, and provide immediate aid to the homeless and the displaced in Gaza and Lebanon.

Araghchi outlined the stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the developments in the region and the crimes and adventurous actions of the aggressor Zionist regime, which are aimed at broadening the war to the entire region and disrupting peace, stability, and security of the region.

He reaffirmed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has a right to respond to any violation of its security and territorial integrity in line with the principle of legitimate self-defense.

He also noted that it’s necessary that the international community take an immediate and effective action to stop the genocidal machine of the Israeli regime. Araghchi called for collective efforts on the part of Muslim countries to this end.

The Iranian and Egyptian foreign ministers agreed to continue their consultations.

Iranian president to fly to Baku to attend UN Climate Change Conference

Masoud Pezeshkian

The event has been held annually since 1995 with the climate change topping its agenda.

The upcoming meeting is the 29th conference which will run from November 11 to 22 in the Azeri capital Baku.

Tehran denies hiring Iranians in Israel to kill Zionist officials

Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations

The Iranian mission to the UN described Israel’s allegation as unfounded.

It added that the Israeli regime’s claim is unlikely to be accurate from a logical standpoint because the natural course of suspicion in the view of the regime would first fall upon individuals of Iranian origin followed by Muslims.

Therefore, the Iranian mission noted, reason dictates that Iranian intelligence services would hypothetically choose non-Iranian and non-Muslim individuals to assassinate Israeli officials.

The statement from Israel’s internal intelligence service, Shin Bet, claimed Iran has stepped up efforts to take out Zionist officials in occupied Palestine and that Tel Aviv has so far foiled several attempts on the lives of those alleged officials.

Pezeshkian says Iran’s missiles aimed at deterring aggressors, not unleashing war

“We have [our] missiles [at our disposal] so they would not dare attack us. Our missiles are not meant [to be used] for carrying out attacks against anyone or [contributing to] expansionism,” the chief executive said during a ceremony.

He added the country has developed the defensive projectiles so parties such as the Israeli regime would not be able to target the Islamic Republic as they have been targeting the Gaza Strip or bomb any place or any person that they would desire.

On October 26, Israeli fighter jets used US-controlled airspace over Iraq to fire projectiles at military installations in Iran’s Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces.

The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces confirmed that a significant number of the missiles were intercepted, and the Israeli warplanes were blocked from entering Iran’s airspace.

Iran has stressed it is resolved to respond to the act of aggression and will not abandon its right.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Saturday warned the United States and Israel that they will definitely receive a teeth-breaking response for their assault.
