Rouhani calls for boost of ties between Iran, Germany

He made the remarks in a meeting with former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.

The President encouraged optimal use of capacities made by the nuclear deal (between Iran and G5+1), adding that Tehran and Berlin have opened the way for expansion of their all out ties.

Reminding the constructive role of Germany in nuclear talks between Iran and G5+1, he said that Iran will be bound to its obligations enshrined in the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA) but hopes that other sides will do the same.

Iran and Germany have good potentials for enhanced cooperation in fields of auto industry, port construction, railroad, energy and industry, Rouhani added.

He referred to Iran’s potentials including good geographical location, huge energy resources, high security, good transit routes and educated human resources and called for boost of cooperation in parliamentary, tourism, cultural and science fields.

The President said that Iran and Germany can enhance their constructive role for solving regional problems.

Terrorism is a common problem and threat not only to the regional countries’ stability and security but also it has caused trouble for Germany, he added.

Rouhani called for dispatch of humanitarian reliefs for refugees, adding that Islamic Republic is ready for cooperation with other states in the fight against terrorism.

Schroeder headed a trade delegation for an unofficial three-day visit to Tehran. The 27-person group is mostly made up of representatives from German companies and the country’s economic sector.

The visit marks an increase in foreign firms vying over Iran’s lucrative market after the termination of Western sanctions in accordance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

German firms find Iranian transportation sector appealing

“German companies are very much interested in investing in the fields of Iran’s transportation and infrastructure,” IRNA quoted Schroeder as telling reporters in Tehran on Monday after a meeting with Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi.

The former chancellor said the two sides discussed strategies for German firms’ operations in different sectors of Iranian transportation.

“The presence of German companies in Iran can open a new chapter in the development of economic relations of the two countries,” noted Schroeder who also held talks Monday with other senior officials in Tehran on improving trade ties and regional issues.

Schroeder heads a trade delegation for an unofficial three-day visit to Tehran. The 27-person team is mostly made up of representatives from German companies and the country’s economic sector.

He said although the volume of German investment could not immediately be known, the companies’ interest for business with Tehran heralded a good prospect for the future.

Schroeder is the honorary chairman of NUMOV, the Berlin-based German Near and Middle East Association, which works to boost economic exchange. He is also reportedly due to meet with Minister of Petroleum and President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday.

The latest visit marks an increase in foreign firms vying over Iran’s lucrative market after the termination of Western sanctions in accordance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Meanwhile, the Iranian minister said German investors seek to finance Iranian transportation projects.

Akhoundi referred to “good negotiations” with the German side in the areas of land, sea and air transport as well as infrastructure.

He also said they discussed the financing of Iranian projects by German banks and ways these banks could operate to fund them.

The Islamic Republic’s nearly 80 million population and educated workforce have long been seen as untapped, and its energy sector is considered ripe for deals.

With the fourth-largest oil reserves and the second in gas, Iran has the biggest combined energy deposits in the world.

Syria fighting international terror: Iran

Fazli made the remarks in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Tuesday.

He said the Islamic Republic is steadfast in assisting the Syrian government.

The two discussed the strong and strategic bilateral ties and mutual cooperation between Iran and Syria, especially in the field of fighting terrorism.

The Syrian head of state said, “Friendly countries, especially Iran and Russia, have, over five years, played an essential role in the Syrians’ perseverance and firmness and achievement of victories in the fateful war against Takfiri terrorism.”

Iran maintains advisory presence in Syria as means of reinvigorating Damascus’ fight against terror. Moscow began an aerial campaign against terrorists in Syria on September 30, 2016 upon a request from the Damascus government.

The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria has claimed the lives of more than 260,000 people and left over one million injured since March 2011. The crisis has also displaced nearly half of the country’s population.

In their Tuesday meeting, Rahmani Fazli and Assad also pointed to some regional countries’ provision of support for the terrorist groups operating in Syria, and their obstruction of a peaceful resolution of the crisis in the Arab country.

The US and its regional allies, namely Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar, are known as some of the main supporters of the militants fighting the Syrian government.

Franco-Japanese auto giant keen on Iran expansion

Renault-Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn said Monday that “Iran is a very promising market,” according to AFP.

“Today it’s more than one million cars, it has the potential to go to 1.5 or 2 million,” he made the comments on the sidelines of the Detroit auto show yesterday.

“We’re ready to go, but we want to go in a way which is sustainable,” Ghosn told reporters.

“You don’t want to go too precipitously and create for ourselves a bigger problem than we need. So I think yes, lots of potential in Iran, but still the timing is going to need to be politically correct and completely clear from a legal point of view.”

Iran and permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany (P5+1) came to a historic conclusion last July after rounds of marathon talks over the country’s nuclear program.

The agreement, aka Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), stipulated that anti-Iran sanctions would be removed in exchange for the country to cut back on its nuclear activities.

Now as the planned date for JCPOA implementation draws near, with some saying as many as days away, foreign firms have doubled efforts to win a lion share in Iran’s lucrative post-sanctions market.

The latest report indicates that rate of car ownership in Iran is just 100 per 1,000 people, six times less than in Europe, and consumers have had limited access to new vehicles.

It said Renault’s French rival PSA Peugeot Citroen, which left Iran in 2012 as a result of the sanctions, is already involved in “intense discussions” with its former partner Iran Khodro over creating a new joint enterprise.

The French carmaker reportedly signed an accord in October to distribute its luxury brand DS in Iran.

Iran may export 40 tons of excess heavy water to US

Zarean said Iran will sign an agreement with China to modify the Arak reactor, a deal that is expected next week.

He added once modifications are done and Arak goes online, Iran hopes to export 40 tons of excess heavy water produced there to the US through a third country, for uses in research.

Iran will officially become a member of producers of Strategic Special Nuclear Material (SSNM) consortium and it is a big achievement for the country, he added.

Zarean said that Iran is now one of the producers of SSNM including the UF6 (Uranium Hexafluoride) and heavy water.

Iran would produce 20 tons of heavy water annually and will sell the excess amount to foreign customers, he added.

Zarean said that Iran and China will sign and exchange the contract for redesigning of Arak Heavy Water Reactor next week.

Iran will not start physical measures for redesigning of the Arak Heavy Water Reactor before finalizing the agreement with the Chinese side, he added.

Zarean underlined that all sanctions related to the nuclear issue will be removed immediately after execution of Iran’s obligations enshrined in the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action.

According to dispatches, Zarean denied report that technicians have dismantled the core of the country’s nearly finished heavy water reactor and filled it with concrete as part of Tehran’s obligations under the nuclear deal with P5+1.

Under the JCPOA, Iran will not complete the IR-40 (Iranian 40 MW thermo heavy water reactor under construction near Arak) as planned but will modify its design.

Iran on Brink of New Era in Energy Market: Nuclear Chief

Salehi sent a message to the 12th edition of Kish International Energy Exhibition, dubbed Kish ENEX 2016, and highlighted the significance of the exhibition at a time when Iran is going to enter a new era of international relations.

“It is necessary to vigorously define the country’s role and share in future of the world’s energy in this new atmosphere,” he said in the message.

A total of 195 Iranian and foreign companies have attended this year’s exposition on Kish island.

The exhibition comes days before the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Back in November 2015, President Hassan Rouhani said the JCPOA will open the door for Iran to enter the international nuclear market and use advanced centrifuge machines for enriching uranium.

The 159-page agreement will terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.
