Meeting the Italian Artist who Writes Slogans on the Walls

As reported by Mehr News, Luca Massironi (an Italian artist from Milan, who is a well-known street artist in Europe and the US) is a guest artist at the 8th Fadjr International Festival of Visual Arts. He paid a visit to the event’s exhibition at Saba Institute of the Iranian Academy of the Arts.

On the margin of this festival, Massironi organized a workshop at Saba Institute for students, and also created an art piece after introducing himself.

In his workshop, he said, “My art started with writing slogans in the streets. I started to write slogans in the streets of Milan and New York which people welcomed. Slowly, they gained artistic value. I moved to New York to learn street art and to become the disciple of Rammellzee, the famous visual artist. I created many pieces with him over a long period.”

Later, he displayed some photos of his street artworks, then created a new one in the workshop.

In this piece, which has similarities to calligraphy, Massironi presented a type of abstract texture to the students, saying, “This has been inspired by the feelings and energy that I’ve got from you, so in fact, this piece belongs to you more than it does to me.”

The Italian artist continued, “This is the nature of street art. You present your feelings inspired by the environment, through visual elements like dots, lines and textures.”

Luca Massironi was born in Milan in 1970, and was a disciple of Rammellzee, who was one of the world’s most well-known street artists. He is also a sculptor, performance artist and graffiti writer and mostly works in Europe and the US.

The 8th Fadjr International Festival of Visual Arts runs until March 8 in Saba Art and Culture Institute, under the management of Mojtaba Aghaei.

Iran welcomes ceasefire plan in Syria

Amir-Abdollahian

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the government accepts the terms of a ceasefire deal announced by the United States and Russia on Monday.

It added that the Syrian government accepts the deal on the basis that military efforts against Daesh Takfiri terrorists and the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front group continue.

Amir-Abdollahian further said Iran is confident that the Syrian government would remain committed to the ceasefire.

“However, It is not clear that armed groups linked to known terrorist groups would observe the ceasefire because armed groups linked to terrorists benefit from chaos in Syria,” the Iranian diplomat added.
He said, “Tehran will do its utmost to help fight terrorism, establish lasting ceasefire, facilitate delivery of humanitarian aid and hold all-embracing Syrian talks” under the supervision of the United Nations.

According to a new report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the Syrian conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.

On Monday, the United States and Russia said a truce has been planned to take effect in the battle-scarred country on February 27.

Hammond: Consular section of UK embassy in Tehran re-starts work

In a twitter message released on Tuesday, Hammond said that according to the promise made six months ago, the consular section of UK embassy in Tehran re-started work.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari announced yesterday that the British embassy’s consular section will resume work on Wednesday.

‘As per announcement by the British Government and in line with implementation of the previous agreements reached between the two countries, the consular section of the British embassy will resume its work on February 24,’ Jaberi Ansari told IRNA’s correspondent.

On August 23, the British foreign secretary reopened Britain’s embassy in Iran after four years of strained relations between Tehran and London.

Hammond arrived in Tehran in late August at the head of a high-ranking delegation to meet the Iranian officials and reopen the British embassy.

Upon arrival, he directly went to the British embassy and announced resumption of the mission’s operation in an official ceremony.

Germany, Iran cooperate in building environment-friendly homes

The Head of Roads, Homes and Cities Construction Research Center Mohammad Shekarchizadeh referred to his recent visit to Germany, arguing that according to the signed MOU with Germany, that country has accepted to train and promote construction of environment-friendly homes in Hashtgerd and Isfahan.

‘There were several meetings in our visit to Germany which led to positive results as we had goal-oriented visits of the successful environment-friendly projects implemented there,’ said the Roads and Rural Development Ministry affiliated research center’s head.

He said that the energy waste in those German technology homes is one tenth compared to the typical Iranian homes.

Promotion of Islam counters Takfirism: Ayatollah Khamenei

Leader-Azerbaijan president

Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Azeri President Ilham Aliyev in Tehran on Tuesday. Also present at the meeting was Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

“Promoting Islamic teachings and observing religious manifestations and rites will encourage public support [for measures designed] to counter threats,” the Leader said.

“Promoting Islamic teachings and Shiism” will bring about divine assistance in dealing with “problems and threats,” added Ayatollah Khamenei.

Touching on good political relations and numerous commonalities, particularly in religious affairs, between Iran and Azerbaijan, the Leader said the Islamic Republic views the Azeri people within a brotherly framework, going beyond simple friendship and neighborliness.

“Political stability, security, calm and public welfare for people of Azerbaijan are very important for us and in the light of wholehearted understanding between the two nations, economic exchanges and cooperation in different sectors must increase,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The Leader urged the Azeri government to throw its weight behind the “Islamic and Shia beliefs” of Azeri people in a bid to win their support against the hostility of certain superpowers.

For his part, President Aliyev said threats posed against Iran and Azerbaijan stem from a single source, adding that Tehran and Baku have agreed to combat terrorism in order to restore peace and stability in the region.

Noting that Iran and Azerbaijan share a stance on international issues, the Azeri president said Iran has been instrumental in establishing peace and stability in the world.

The Azeri president arrived in Tehran Tuesday morning at the head of a high-ranking politico-economic delegation.

Iran: Hezbollah Leader completely fine

Ali Akbar Velayati, the Supreme Leader’s advisor in international affairs, told YJC that rumors about Seyyed Hassan Nasrollah’s illness are false, saying, “Touch wood, he is fully healthy for the time being.”

Velayati -1“Seyyed Hassan Nasrollah’s presence in Iran for treatment is a blatant lie,” said Velayati.

This is the easiest lie they [the Zionists] could have possibly told about the health of the Hezbollah Secretary General with the aim of weakening its affiliates after repeated losses in Syria, the Leader advisor added.

Turkey’s Anadulo news agency reported Tuesday, in a second report in two days alleging that the Hezbollah leader is sick.

After ISIS’s continuous defeats in An-nosra and Ahrar Al-sham in Syria, Israel spread rumors about Nasrollah being sick.

Iran rejects oil freeze call as ‘joke’

“Some countries that are producing above 10 million barrels per day (bpd) have called on Iran to freeze its production at one million bpd,” Zangeneh said in what appears to be a reference to Saudi Arabia.

“This is more like a joke that they tell us they would freeze their production above 10 million bpd and that we should also in turn freeze our production at one million bpd,” he said in a speech to an expert energy panel in Tehran.

The Iranian minister made the comment in reaction to a plan that has reportedly been raised by the Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi.

Last Wednesday, oil ministers from Venezuela, Iraq and Qatar met Zangeneh to discuss oil market conditions.  Zangeneh told reporters after the meeting that an understanding had been reached at the end of the talks for OPEC and non-OPEC oil producers to keep their current output ceiling to help stabilize the market and boost the prices. However, he did not specify if Iran would also keep its production.

A day earlier, oil ministers from Venezuela, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Russia had met in Doha to discuss ways to stabilize the market. They had announced at the end of the meeting that they had agreed to freeze output in a bid to shore up prices after a 70 percent drop due to chronic oversupply.

Zangeneh had for long vowed that Iran will increase its oil production by 500,000 bpd as soon as the sanctions – that kept a ceiling of about 1 million bpd on the country’s oil production –  would be lifted.

The sanctions were lifted in January after a key nuclear deal that Iran had sealed with the P5+1 group of countries – the five permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany – was implemented.

A few weeks later, Iran announced that it had increased its oil production capacity by 400,000 barrels per day (bpd) thus moving closer to Zangeneh’s pledged extra capacity.

The country simultaneously said that it had started to ship oil cargoes – each with a volume of several million barrels – to international clients.
