PSEEZ Reduces Gas Flaring to Save Environment

205995_orig

Mehdi Yousefi has said that the volume of the gas flared in phases 1 through 10 of PSEEZ has dropped from 56 mcm/week in 2008 to 4.5mcm/week in the first three months of the current calendar year, which began on March 20.

He also said that the zone has employed 37,000 personnel from the local population in Assalouyeh, southern Iran, in the past two years.

Yousefi also said that boosting the regional greenery is another concern for PSEEZ to preserve the environment, and various plans are underway in this regard.

A gas flare, alternatively known as a flare stack, is a gas combustion device used in industrial plants such as petroleum refineries, chemical plants, natural gas processing plants as well as at oil or gas production sites having oil wells, gas wells, offshore oil and gas rigs and landfills.

Zarif: JCPOA Won’t End Western Hostility

Zarif-01

Zarif attended an open session of the newly-elected parliament on Sunday morning, June 12, for the first time to brief MPs on the process of implementing the deal – known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – and answer the lawmakers’ questions about the impact of the JCPOA on the country’s economy.

With the nuclear agreement, Iran managed to remove the economic obstacles imposed on people under the pretext of the country’s nuclear program, he noted.

“We managed to counter Western parties’ threats, which had created a negative atmosphere against the Islamic Republic,” the top diplomat said, highlighting the new atmosphere created after the implantation of the JCPOA and removal of anti-Iran sanctions.

“However, this does not mean the end of hostility by those who regarded the Islamic Republic as an obstacle to attainment of their goals,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif pointed to the large number of foreign delegations visiting Iran after the nuclear deal, describing it as an indication that the world sees Iran as a safe place for cooperation.

Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015, reached a conclusion over the text of the JCPOA. The accord took effect in January, terminating all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.

According to a law that requires the Iranian administration to safeguard the nation’s achievements and nuclear rights, the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has a duty to monitor “the proper implementation” of the JCPOA, and is required to submit a report on the issue to the presiding board of the parliament every six months.

Antiquities of Iraqi Origin Seized in Tehran Subway

According to a report by ISNA, as translated by IFP, the antiquities recovered in Tehran’s Sadeghieh metro station were later handed over to the Tehran Province Department of Cultural Heritage.

Mohammad Reza Nemati, the head of the Department, told ISNA that the relics included 6 glass scent bottles, some bronze bangles dating from a different historical period, including the 3rd millennium BC and the Sassanid era, and also four clay tablets belonging to Mesopotamia.

All relics have great historical value, and experts are currently analyzing them to determine the exact civilizations they belonged to, he went on to say. It is very likely that the relics are of Iraqi origin, as some of them belong to the Mesopotamian civilization.

Hong Kong Eyes Closer Maritime Cooperation with Tehran

Hong Kong

“A lot of people have been dealing with Iran through third parties,” said Stephen Wong of the HKTDC. “Now that sanctions are taken away, Hong Kong will benefit … I’m sure that the trade will grow.”

He further said that freight activity with Iran was expected to include multiple areas such as food products and consumer goods.

Hong Kong, one of the world’s biggest container ports, expects to benefit from China’s new Silk Road initiative aimed at developing trade and transport links across Asia and beyond.

In 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping introduced the new “Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Maritime Silk Road” initiative to connect stronger logistics networks with Asia, Africa and Europe by building more roads, railways and airports.

Iran-Russia-Syria Defence Talks Presage Further Coordination: Expert

Salim Harba

Speaking to Tasnim, Salim Harba said the recent meeting between Iranian Defence Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and his Russian and Syrian counterparts, Sergey Kuzhugetovich Shoygu and Fahd Jassem al-Freij, was a serious negotiation, which indicated the “strategic stability” of the three allies at military levels.

“Secondly, the meeting demonstrated the insistence of Russia, Iran and Syria on continuing to fight against terrorism and preparing the grounds for the political process,” he noted.

The Syrian analyst further emphasized that the talks in Tehran will lead to new tactics and coordination among the three countries’ forces at all levels in coming days.

Iran and Russia, known as the main allies of Syria, have been looking for a solution to a crisis that has plagued the Arab country for more than five years.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists, including Daesh (ISIS/ISIL), currently controlling parts of it, mostly in the east.

The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.

According to a new report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.

President Hails Stability in Iran, Stresses Forward Progress

Rouhani made the remarks in a breaking-fast ceremony attended by clerics and religious scholars. Lauding the high level of stability and security in the Islamic Republic, he said that despite problems encountered by regional states, the Islamic Republic continues its progress and development in peace.

“The government will do its best to fulfill its election promises and it will never stop consulting experts on sensitive issues,” Rouhani said.

He urged the need for presenting the real Iran to the world, and said that Iran now has a special stance in global public opinion.

Rouhani referred to Iran’s capabilities in various fields including transit, its trained workforce, and natural resources, emphasizing the maintenance of good relations with the international community and the use of diplomacy. “We should exploit our resources of power and wealth in the best way,” the President said.

He also hailed the country’s progress in fields like sciences, healthcare, social security and non-oil exports.

Many newspapers on Sunday covered a Canadian court’s ruling ordering the seizure of Iranian non-diplomatic assets under the pretext of alleged roles in terrorist activities. The ruling came at the same time as the Canadian FM’s remarks about resuming ties with Tehran, and this incongruence was also commented upon.

The UN’s withdrawal from blacklisting Saudi Arabia for killing children in Yemen remained a top story today.

Hamid Sabzevari, the famous Iranian poet, passed away in Tehran on Saturday at the age of 91, and his photos were widely published, as newspapers commemorated the “Poet of the Revolution”.

Two-Thirds of the World to Suffer Water Scarcity in 10 Years

2104191

The Secretary of the Iran Urban Economics Scientific Association (IUESA), Seyyed Mohsen Tabatabaei, made the remarks, noting that that global demand for water follows the extreme growth in urbanization.

He underlined that water and its resources remain core issues related to sustainable development, and that access to proper drinking water is one of the most important goals of the third millennium; “Food security, health and the environment are all affected by water.”

Saying that water leads to the improvement of social welfare and overall growth and the livelihoods of billions of people worldwide, he added, “Water is the source of many development vertices, but we can see worrying trends globally, to the extent that some experts claim that conflicts, tensions and civil, regional and international wars will be over water access in the not-too-distant future. Therefore, this issue requires more precise attention.”

Tabatabaei highlighted that the global demand for water is largely following urbanization growth, macro-economic policies, globalization of trade, and changes in the diet of the world population, adding, “Studies indicate that global demand for water will increase 55% by 2050.”

Warning about an increasing growth in the need for water, the urban expert said, “Currently, the status of water resources is worrying, since groundwater levels have fallen by 20% and many parts of the world are faced with a lack of water. In the meantime, some experts have forecast that about two-thirds of the world’s population will suffer from severe or relative water scarcity by 2025.”

“Statistics indicate a shocking reality; 80% of the world’s population has access to only 20% of the world’s safe drinking water. In order to have favourable coverage of water and sanitation in the world, just in developing countries, investment worth $ 103bn is needed in the water and sanitation sector annually,” Tabatabaei stressed.

Emphasizing that city management should make specific decisions to reduce water consumption, Tabatabaei deemed it necessary to have a scientific and comprehensive view regarding water consumption management, so that available resources can meet the needs of urban residents in the future.
