Iran’s defense minister to visit Russia for military cooperation

“The Iranian minister will have a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu,” Russia’s TASS news agency quoted sources from the embassy on Friday.

Dehqan will also discuss ways to buy Russian Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets and T-90 tanks during his visit to Moscow scheduled for April 26, the embassy said.

The 2016 Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS), which will be held on April 27-29, is expected to focus on fighting terrorism in the region and across the world, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

According to Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanai, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) Ali Larijani will also travel to Moscow next week.

Iranian delegation boycotts OIC closing meeting

To voice their protest to anti-Iranian articles in the final statement of the 13th summit of OIC in Istanbul, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and the rest of the Iranian delegation did not share the table at the closing meeting of the summit.

In contrast to President Rouhani’s call of unity, Turkey and Saudi Arabia tried to frame Iran as a supporter of terrorism.

In response to these moves, Foreign Minister Zarif, On Wednesday, described Saudi Arabia’s move to include statements against Tehran and Hezbollah as “destructive,” and reminded the Saudis of the destiny of Saddam’s regime who was trying to use the OIC mechanism in favor of his political interests against Iran during the war of 1980-88.

Saudis who denied Iranian diplomats visas to attend expert-level meeting of the organization in February in the Saudi port city of Jaddah, prepared a draft against Iran and Hezbollah and passed it in Istanbul.

Iran’s president slams any ‘divisive’ measure at OIC

Rouhani made the remark in an address to the 13th OIC summit in the Turkish city of Istanbul, which kicked off on Thursday.

“No message which would fuel division in the Islamic Ummah should come out of the conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation,” Rouhani said.

He added that “any divisive move [at the OIC] is invalid,” as it does not enjoy the consensus of the member states and Muslim community and as it is against the goal of the organization.

Rouhani’s remarks came amid Saudi Arabia’s efforts to include statements against Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement in the draft declaration of the OIC summit.

The OIC draft was prepared during an expert-level meeting of the organization in February in the Saudi port city of Jaddah. The Iranian officials could not attend in the meeting as they were denied visas by Riyadh.

On Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also slammed Saudi Arabia’s move to include statements against Tehran and Hezbollah as “destructive.” He warned that attempts by the Saudis to use the OIC mechanism to achieve their political goals resemble efforts by the former regime of Iraq’s Saddam Hussein against Iran during the organization’s meeting at the time of Iraq’s imposed war against Iran in the 1980s.

Iran does not support tension and instability in the region, said Rouhani, adding that the Islamic Republic pursues policies aimed at fostering solidarity and unity in the Muslim world.

He described the promotion of relations with Muslim countries as a top priority for his country, and reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s support for dialog and diplomacy as the best way out of any rifts and misunderstandings.

Iran stands by terror-hit Muslim states

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian president touched on challenges facing Muslims and voiced Tehran’s support for the Muslim countries grappling with terror threats.

Iran “has always backed and will back Muslim countries in the face of aggression, threats, occupation and terrorism,” he said.

The Islamic Republic will not hesitate to help oppressed Muslims if they demand such assistance in the fight against the terrorists and aggressors seeking to pose threats to sacred Muslim sites,  Rouhani noted.

He added that extremist and Takfiri groups are killing people in cold blood, expressing regret that their bestial crimes are perpetrated in the name of Islam, which has been the main victim of such atrocities.

Israel, main source of violence

He also warned about threats posed by the Israeli regime, saying Tel Aviv is the “main source of extremism and violence” in the region, criticizing the international community for remaining silent on the regime’s crimes.

“We should always bear in mind the threat of the Zionist regime as the main source of violence and extremism, and accept that continued massacre of defenseless Palestinian people, mainly women and children, in the occupied territories as well as inhumane attacks and the siege on Gaza are indicative of the violent nature of a regime that continues with its bestial acts thanks to the silence of the international community, particularly Western powers,” Rouhani said.

11th Government’s Policies Include Opening Artistic and Cultural Doors

As reported by IRNA Cultural Group, Ali Janati, in a meeting with female managers within the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and related organizations, said, “The beginning and the end of this year is heralded with the holy name of Fatemeh Zahra, and from the beginning of the year we witnessed the effects of her blessings in our country, includingthe much-needed rain.” [Fatemeh Zahra was the daughter of Prophet Muhammad and wife of Imam Ali, and is referred to as Kosar, meaning abundant blessings]

Last year’s national management was one of the great achievements of the current government

The member of the 11th government cabinet talked about the government’s financial difficulties last year, comparing it with the Holy Defense period [the 8-year Iran-Iraq war]. He said, “There has been no other year as difficult as 1988 (the final year of the war) financially for the government since the Islamic Revolution, but last year the government coffers were empty and the oil price was low. The government managed the country through such conditions with the minimum of side effects. This last year was one of the greatest achievements of the government.”

Finalizing the JPCOA – A great government achievement

The Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance also mentioned the finalizing of the JPCOA as another great achievement of the current government. He said, “By finalizing the JPCOA, the sanctions that were cruelly imposed on Iranians and were paralyzing the national economy were lifted.”

He added, “During the sanctions, most of our factories were working only at 20-30% capacity. Many of them didn’t even have the required raw materials and couldn’t purchase them due to the lack of a banking transaction system.

Jannati-2Creating a New Atmosphere in the International Arena

The Member of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution mentioned, “The worst damage of the sanctions period was the destruction of Iranian respect and dignity. European countries were not even welcoming Iranian authorities and managers.”

He continued, “After sanctions were lifted, a new atmosphere towards Iran has been created in the international arena. Now, many European as well as non-European countries have shown their interest in investment and developing their relations with Iran.”

European Countries’ New Perspectives towards Iran

Janati then referred to President Rouhani’s trips to France and Italy, saying, “The welcome shown to the President in both countries was unheard of. This shows the new perspective of the European countries toward Iran.”

He highlighted how the police in France didn’t allow opposition groups to protest against the Islamic Republic of Iran during President Rouhani’s time there.

The Government is Implementing Open-Door Policies in Cultural Fields

Janati said, “Within the legal framework, the government has tried to provide conditions in which writers, journalists, musicians and the whole family of art and culture can carry out their activities in peace, without any unnecessary objections.”

Important Developments in the Field of Cinema

The Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Council of Cinema highlighted the actions taken by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in the field of cinema during the current government. “The House of Cinema, which had been shut down during the previous government, was reopened by the efforts and insistence of the current government.”

He added, “People reconciled with cinema this year, and during the New Year holidays we witnessed extraordinary cinema attendance, even late at night or for early morning showtimes.”

Renovation of Theatre Halls in the City Theatre Complex

Janati also said, “Considering we named the last year the Year of Theatre, we renovated theatre salons in the City Theatre Complex, which were used for the Fajr Theatre Festival.”

Regional Cultural Balance

The Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance talked about providing a cultural balance across the country as being another important government policy, and said, “We have tried to provide cultural and artistic facilities not just exclusively for the capital city, but to spread it to other towns and cities over the whole country.”

“In this regard,” he continued, “All the departments of the Ministry are bound to allocate 20% of their annual budget for cultural and artistic activities in the provinces.”

Creating a Discourse for the Resistance Economy – A Responsibility of Art and Culture

Janati drew attention to the fact that the New Year has been named as the year of Resistance Economy, saying, “Promoting cultural discourse about the Resistive Economy is the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the media, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and other artistic and cultural organizations.”

He declared, “The Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, relying on its tools and facilities like films, cinema, publications and books, visual arts and so on, can take actions in terms of promoting cultural discourse related to the Resistive Economy.”

Iran FM slams Riyadh’s ‘destructive’ moves at OIC

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Wednesday that Riyadh’s efforts for the inclusion of four paragraphs in the draft declaration against Iran and one more against Hezbollah were against the “spirit of Islamic solidarity” which can only serve the interests of the Israeli regime, IRNA reported.

The draft was prepared during an expert-level OIC meeting in February in the Saudi port city of Jaddah, which the Iranian officials could not attend as they were denied visas by Riyadh.

Zarif warned that attempts by the Saudis to use the OIC mechanism to achieve their political goals resemble efforts by the former regime of Iraq’s Saddam Hussein against Iran during the organization’s meeting at the time of Iraq’s imposed war against Iran in the 1980s.

The Iranian foreign minister stated that members of the OIC should “learn the lesson” from those experiences and refrain from adopting “failed policies.”

For years, Iran and Saudi Arabia have been at odds over an array of issues in the Middle East, including the situation in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Bahrain. The rift, however, widened in January after the Saudi regime executed Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, a prominent Shia cleric and an outspoken critic of the Riyadh government. The move sparked massive protests across the Muslim world, including in Iran, where some angry protesters attacked Saudi embassy in Tehran and the consulate in the northeastern city of Mashhad, following which Saudis cut off all diplomatic relations with Tehran.

Zarif said Saudi Arabia is continuing to “make excuses” out of the incidents that happened at its diplomatic missions in Iran, adding that Iran has openly condemned those events.

The Iranian top diplomat, however, noted that despite “destructive efforts” by some OIC members, Iran has always sought improved relations with the neighboring countries.

Zarif also condemned a paragraph proposed in the OIC draft declaration against Hezbollah, saying the move only pleases Israel.

Rouhani: Iran seriously pursues fight against terrorism

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always seriously followed the fight against terrorism in the Muslim world and practically any nation and government that has sought Iran’s help, Tehran has offered its help and assistance,” Rouhani said before flying to the Turkish port city of Istanbul to take part in the 13th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The Iranian president elaborated on Iran’s assistance to the Muslim countries in their fight against terrorism, saying the governments of countries such as Iraq and Syria have enjoyed Iran’s support in this regard.

Rouhani further noted that the Muslim world is currently grappling with such problems as terrorism, extremism and sectarianism, while “some countries are unfortunately invading other countries.”

He stated that one of the goals of the OIC is to create unity among Muslim nations, expressing hope that the organization would be able to resolve differences among Islamic states.

“We hope there would be helpful discussions in this summit about the settlement of disputes in the Muslim world, fostering unity and solidarity among Muslim countries, and especially the issue of fighting terrorism,” Rouhani said.

The OIC summit will be held under the theme, “Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Peace.” A resolution on the Palestinian issue and support for international efforts to re-launch a “collective political process” will be issued at the end of the summit.

The OIC is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations which has 57 member states spread over four continents.

Naraq, Attractive Historical City in Markazi Province

Naraq, Attractive Historical City in Markazi Province

Naraq is located in the central district of Delijan County, Markazi Province. The city dates back to 2,000 years ego and boasts 130 historical buildings and sites. The architectural styles in this old city pertain to the Ilkhanid, Seljuk and Qajar eras.

Naraq is home to three aqueducts, two caravanserais and Shamsolsaltaneh Bazaar.

A meteor struck a school in Naraq in 1974 ― making the city a center of meteor shower.

Naraq Mayor Mahmoud Moradi said three billion rials ($100,000) will be required to renovate the city’s old bathhouse and turn it into an anthropology museum, reported Iran Daily on Wednesday.

He added that annual budget of 500 million rials ($26,161) is insufficient for renovating the historical monuments of Naraq.

Two thousands historical and natural monuments have been identified across Markazi province, of which 800 have been registered on the National Heritage List.

The Chal Nakhjir cave is situated between Delijan and Naraq in Markazi Province, central Iran. It was discovered in 1989 by personnel of the water facilities department who were searching for water sources.

The cave is renowned for its exceptional white dolomite sediments. It was formed about 70 million years ago.

Iran advisors helped kill 200 terrorists in Syria: Commander

The commandos were from the Army’s Brigade 65, who had taken on a mission of advising Syrian forces in their battle against terrorists.

“In an operation against several thousand terrorists with the al-Nusra Front and [other] Takfiris carrying out a sweeping attack south of Aleppo, these soldiers staged devoted and decent courage and bravery, which resulted in the martyrdom of four of them,” he said.

He made the remarks in Tehran on Tuesday during a funeral ceremony for one of the advisers.

“Prior to their martyrdom, they managed to destroy a number of tanks and personnel carriers belonging to al-Nusra and kill 200 of the terrorists, documents attesting to which are at hand,” he said.

Militancy began in Syria in March 2011, and has killed at least 270,000 people, according to the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Some reports, however, put the death toll at as high as 470,000.

Throughout the past two years, al-Nusra has joined the sowing of death and destruction across the Arab country alongside Daesh, another Takfiri terror group.

Commenting on the Iranian advisory mission in Syria, Pourdastan said, “We have a duty to be at hand if there is a mission and perform our responsibility.”

He, however, said, “We do not perceive Daesh to be so big that would entail us sending in a military regiment. Our main enemy is the United States and we prepare ourselves in proportion to that.”
