Iranian Cleric Blasts Al Khalifa’s Cruel Action against Sheikh Qassim

Ayatollah Seddighi

Delivering a speech to worshipers in Tehran on Friday, Ayatollah Kazem Seddiqi slammed the Manama regime for committing treason against the nation instead of serving people.

He said the recent cruel move by the Manama regime is a reminder of the atrocities by Iran’s deposed Shah (king), who became weaker by killing people, adding that the Al Khalifa and Al Saud are also going to suffer the same fate.

Ayatollah Seddiqi lashed out at the ruling family of Bahrain for responding to peaceful protests with bullets.

On Monday, the Manama ruling regime said the citizenship of Sheikh Qassim has been revoked, accusing him of sowing sectarian divisions.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.

Amnesty International and many other international rights organizations have frequently censured the Bahraini regime for the rampant human rights abuses against opposition groups and anti-regime protesters.

Leader Calls for Government’s Serious Action against Payment of Astronomical Salaries

Iran Leader - Ayatollah Khamenei

“The problem of astronomical salaries is, in fact, an attack on values,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani and members of his cabinet on Wednesday, June 22, in Tehran.

However, the Leader added, everyone should know that this matter is one of the exceptions and the majority of managers, among Iranian governmental bodies, have clean hands.

“This rare event is ghastly and should be stringently dealt with,” the Leader stressed, as reported by the official website of Ayatollah Khamenei.

Earlier on June 12, First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri was ordered by the President to probe into the issue expeditiously.

In the Wednesday meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei urged Jahangiri to deal with the issue quickly and firmly.

“Following the investigation, results should be made available to the people,” the Leader emphasized.

Leader Warns against Words and Actions That Reinforce Sedition

“Imam Ali (PBUH) advises that, in times of sedition, it becomes very difficult for people to distinguish truth from false and one should act in a manner that would not benefit the sedition in any way ,” the Leader noted elsewhere in his remarks.

Ayatollah Khamenei gave the following example, “During a time of sedition, like what happened in 2009 [protests after the presidential elections], one’s words, silence, action or even viewpoint should not reinforce the sedition.”

“Of course, some individuals, due to their personal inclinations, may not be interested in taking clear stances against the sedition (fitna), but they should not be exploited for the benefit of the sedition either,” Ayatollah Khamenei stressed.

French National Assembly President to Visit Iran Next Week: Zarif

Zarif

Iran had the opportunity last year to host the Senate President Gérard Larcher, and now, the President of French National Assembly, Mr. Bartolone, is planned to pay a visit to Tehran next week, Zarif said, speaking in Paris in a meeting with members of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Defence and Armed Forces.

Zarif went on to say that the visit is expected to help the two nations find a better understanding of each other, as reported by IRNA.

Zarif referred to the international campaign against terrorism, urging that all sides should cooperate in order to attain the ultimate goal.

“We should be prepared to face the difficulties and find ways out of the deadlocks, adopting a unified stance to resolve the issues in the international community,” Zarif said.

Fight against terrorism requires collective action, he said, adding that Iran as a victim of terrorism is ready to spare no efforts to destroy terrorism.

In regional developments, no one can claim that problems will be limited to a specific district, he said, pointing to a series of crimes being committed in France these days.

Such problems will not be limited to a specific region and will spread to other regions as well, he stressed, reaffirming that the resolution of this issue requires a global consensus.

Terrorism will not be resolved through military means, Zarif said, adding that political disputes must be settled through political means.

Spread of disappointment among the youth following their economic failures and experiences of injustice prepares the grounds for them to be deceived by terrorist groups, he said.

Fight against extremists groups requires cutting their financial and human resources as part of a global effort, Zarif noted..

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif referred to the recent parliamentary elections in Iran, saying that Iran’s Majlis [Parliament] speaker and heads of commissions have already been elected, and members of friendship groups will soon start their work to enhance mutual cooperation between Iranian and French parliaments.

The Iranian foreign ministry welcomes such relations that help deepen friendly ties between the two nations, Zarif said.

Ayatollah Sistani Hails Bahrani Cleric’s Peaceful Efforts

In a telephone conversation on Thursday, Ayatollah Sistani expressed solidarity with Sheikh Qassim, whose citizenship was revoked by the Manama regime earlier this week.

“You are in the hearts and what has occurred will not harm you,” Ayatollah Sistani told Sheikh Qassim, according to Lebanon’s Al-Manar television.

The senior cleric stressed that he would use all means to preserve Sheikh Qassim’s rights.

On Monday, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry accused the Persian Gulf island’s most prominent Shiite cleric of seeking the “creation of a sectarian environment” through his connections with foreign powers.

The move has raised fears of further unrest in the Arab country which is already the scene of regular anti-regime demonstrations.

The latest measure by the Bahraini regime against the Shiite cleric came less than a week after the Bahraini Justice Ministry suspended all activities of al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, the main opposition group in the country.

The kingdom also dissolved two other opposition groups, namely al-Tawiya and al-Risala Islamic associations.

Al-Wefaq’s Secretary General Sheikh Ali Salman has been in prison since December 2014 on charges of attempting to overthrow the regime and collaborating with foreign powers, which he has denied.

Since mid-February 2011, Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests demanding that the ruling family relinquish power.

The Al Khalifa regime is engaged in a harsh crackdown on dissent and widespread discrimination against the country’s Shiite majority. Scores of people have been killed and hundreds of others injured or arrested in the island country.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei met President Hassan Rouhani and members of his cabinet on Wednesday, June 22. During the meeting, the controversial issue of astronomical salaries paid to certain executive was discussed. The Leader urged the government to seriously pursue the issue, but at the same time noted that such cases are rare, and majority of executives are decent people, receiving normal salaries. The remarks were widely covered by Iranian press on Thursday. Many of the headlines were dedicated to the Leader’s call for action, and some of them referred to the decency of most executives.

Bus crashes in Fars province, which killed 19 soldiers on board and wounded many more, were also highlighted in many newspapers.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s ongoing tour of Europe, including visits to France and the Netherlands, is also a top story. His meetings with French President Francois Hollande and his French counterpart were widely covered.

Any Attack on Sheikh Qassim’s House Will Lead to Bloodbath: Representative

Daqaq

“The popular and peaceful revolution in Bahrain will continue,” Sheikh Abdullah Daqaq, representative of Sheikh Qassim in Iran, said Wednesday in a press conference at the head office of the Tasnim News Agency in Tehran.

It is not expected that the Bahraini revolution become violent unless the regime resorts to assassination of Sheikh Qassim or somehow try to keep him away from the nation, the cleric said.

People have gathered in front of Sheikh Qassim’s house since the revocation of his nationality, and are chanting slogans there. They have stayed over for the entire day, and even break their fast and say their prayers in front of the cleric’s house, he noted.

“Sheikh can come out of his home now, but we fear that the regime attacks him. People have surrounded his house, and if the regime does anything against the house, there might be a bloodbath,” Daqaq added, as reported by Tasnim and translated by IFP.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Sheikh Daqaq pointed to a recent statement by Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Major General Qassem Soleimani, who gave a stern warning against the Bahraini rulers’ continued crackdown on peaceful public protests in the Persian Gulf country and its recent move against Sheikh Qassim.

“The message by General Qassem Soleimani, God bless him, was a crystal clear message for the government of Bahrain,” Sheikh Daqaq said.

In a statement on Monday evening, General Soleimani described disrespect for Sheikh Qassim as a “red line” that, when crossed, will “spark flames of fire in Bahrain and across the whole region, leaving people with no choice but armed resistance.”

Bahrain said Monday that the citizenship of Sheikh Qassim has been revoked, accusing him of sowing sectarian divisions.

More Advanced Version of ISIS Will Emerge in Future: Iraqi Commander

ISIS-Iraq
ISIS in Iraq

The chief of counterterrorism forces in an ongoing operation to Liberate Iraqi city of Fallujah, Lt. General Abdul-Wahab al-Saadi, told the local al-Sumaria TV late on Monday that he expects a more advanced version of the terrorist group to emerge in future.

He also noted that the people of Fallujah had to accept the extremist group because it was imposed on them, as reported by Al Alam News Network and translated by IFP.

The Iraqi commander further referred to the recent battles in Iraq, saying about 2,500 ISIS militants were killed during a month-long offensive to recapture the city of Fallujah.

The number of ISIS fighters inside Fallujah ranged between 3,500 and 4,000 when the offensive began in late May, he stated, noting that about 15% of them were foreign fighters.

Al-Saadi cited Iraqi police reports as saying 1,086 ISIS-linked suspects have been arrested.

Turkey Claiming Possession of Rumi with Hollywood’s Help

Rumi - Hollywood

A Turkey-based film company, Y Productions, recently announced that it is working on an epic movie about the life of Rumi, based on a script written by David Franzoni, the Oscar-nominated writer and Oscar-winning producer of Gladiator.

Stephen Joel Brown, the CEO of Turkey-based Y Productions, and Franzoni hope that the new film will feature Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert Downey Jr. in the roles of Rumi and his companion, Shams of Tabriz.

In reaction to the move, Shahram Asadi, who was due to produce a high-budget epic film about Rumi, told Sobh-e Now that Turkey’s efforts were predictable.

“I personally expected them to go for Rumi. They have made a lot of other moves in recent years, including publishing books about him, in order to claim possession of the Iranian poet,” he noted in his interview, as translated by IFP.

Americans and Turks will make the film based on their own interpretation of Rumi, Asadi said, adding that different Rumis are created when different countries produce films about him.

“It is not bad if several films are made of a single personality, and the more films are made, the better, because it attracts the attention of a wider audience,” Asadi said.

However, he added, Iranians need to portray their own version of Rumi, as well.

In its article, Sobh-e Now referred to the history of films made by other countries about Iranian figures, and noted that in this particular case, Rumi, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) happened to be the first to work on the poet.

However, it added, the huge Jalal ad-Din project, which was due to be produced in three phases by Shahram Asadi, faced budget problems and was left unfinished.

It further criticized Iranian cultural executives for ignoring such topics, and spending their budgets on unimportant sections like holding different festivals.

Why Does Dad Want the Cooler Off?

Cold Father

Speaking to ISNA, Jafar Navabi, an internist, said elderly fathers are more likely to feel the cold more than others in the house because of their age and the things that occur to their body as they get older.

“As men get older and enter their old age, they see a reduction in their hypodermic fat, which narrows their skin and makes them more susceptible to coldness,” he said.

On the contrary, aging for women means more fat under their skin, leading them to desire cooler temperatures, said the internist.

Furthermore, losing oestrogen over time means that women experience more hot flushes, which can stay with them until very old age.

Ministry of Health Apprehensive About Fresh Wave of Immigration

Afghan Refugees in Iran

He said, “Since last year, we’ve witnessed a new wave of immigration into the country.” Unlike in the past, when young, healthy immigrants would come here pursuing job opportunities, now they’re women and children, for the most part, who are in desperate need of healthcare services, and the responsibility sits upon us to control their vaccinations.

Noting that among all the immigration destinations throughout the world, not even one covers the vaccination program as comprehensively as Iran, Gouya added, “We have had to fill all these gaps in a very short time, which requires more manpower.”

According to him, around 1m people obtained vaccinations against measles last year, among which 200,000 were immigrants and refugees. Moreover, the Ministry of Health vaccinated immigrants and refugees born between the years 1988 and 1992 in four rounds against Hepatitis B.

“New immigrants mostly come from Pakistan and Afghanistan and at different intervals spread new diseases throughout the country.” He continued. “Sometimes we can curb the spread of a disease by vaccination, especially polio and measles, which are being eradicated in the country. In some cases, the disease passes on through food or drinking water. We need to prevent that.”

The director of the Centre for Communicable Disease Control of the Ministry of Health said some chronic diseases such as tuberculosis and multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) are a menace to the country and need special measures.

Health Services for Immigrants and Refugees Cost Iran IRR100bn Annually

Mohammad Mahdi Gouya pointed to the huge cost of providing health services to refugees and immigrants, saying, “Healthcare expenditure on immigrants in Iran stands at IRR100bn annually. The UNHCR allocates Iran only one quarter of the amount it spends on providing health services for refugees and immigrants. We expect the UNHCR to consider this issue on its agenda.”

The Director of the Centre for Communicable Disease Control of the Ministry of Health added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran provides incomparable health services to immigrants, which are far better than what they had in the countries they used to live in temporarily or permanently.”
