In a statement on Tuesday, June 28, Qassemi condemned the attacks and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims and followers of the victims’ religions.

He also reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for the nation, government, army, and Resistance movements of Lebanon in their fight against terrorism.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran once again underlines the necessity for vigilance and solidarity among regional governments and nations from different tribes and religions in the fight against terrorism,” Qassemi noted.

“[Iran] believes that the global community should be more serious in the fight against terrorism, its root causes, factors, elements, and supporters,” he went on to say.

“The capability to show timely and effective revolutionary responses to any level and type of threat to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Establishment is expected [of the Armed Forces],” the Leader stressed.

Iran’s Larijani Highlights Importance of Int’l Quds Day

Ali Larijani

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Tuesday, June 28, Larijani described International Quds Day as “a day of clarification” and said by attending rallies to mark the day, Muslims around the world would have a significant impact on the future of Palestinians.

“People’s rallies on the Quds Day will be indicative of their strong will to resolve the problems facing Palestine,” he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani regretted that the issue of Palestine has been overshadowed by recent crises hitting some Middle Eastern countries, adding that Israel is utilizing the atmosphere to continue its aggressions against the Palestinian nation.

The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.

The day is also seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.

Larijani’s remarks came as Israeli forces on Tuesday morning stormed Palestinian worshippers at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Israeli-occupied Old City of al-Quds (Jerusalem) for a third consecutive day.

The incident occurred at a time when a large number of Palestinian worshippers were performing prayers at Islam’s third-holiest site during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Turkey-Israel Rapprochement Good for Regional Stability: Turkish Ambassador

Reza Hakan Tekin

“The normalization of relations between Israel and Turkey is beneficial for the stability of the region” the Turkish Ambassador to Tehran said in an interview with ISNA, as translated by IFP, noting that the relations between the two countries had soured in May 2010 when Israeli commandos raided the Mavi Marmara, a ship bound for Gaza.

He continued, “If Israel is willing to reconcile with Turkey, there are some conditions in the run-up to that deal which they must fulfil.”

Reza Hakan Tekin, Turkey’s ambassador to Iran, underscored that the relations between Israel and Turkey shouldn’t be frowned upon as a one-sided deal, but instead should be seen as a deal in favour of the stability of the region. “This rapprochement wouldn’t bother anyone if you look at it as a conduit to help put an end to the Palestinians’ misery. Turkey is on good terms with Hamas, and there’s no doubt that preliminary arrangements were made with Hamas before this reconciliation.”

Israel Reneges on a Pledge to Lift Marine Bloackade

Another source, Entekhab, released a report giving more details on the conditions of the deal in question, here translated by IFP.

Turkish PM Binali Yildirim underscored that the relations between Ankara and Tel Aviv have been reconciled. Under the deal, the Israeli embargo on Gaza will be largely lifted, but the blockade on Gaza’s coasts will be still in place.

The deal sees Israel provide economic compensation worth $20m to the families of the 10 Turkish citizens killed by Israeli forces who raided the six-ship flotilla heading to break the Israeli bloackade of Gaza and provide humanitarian aid to the almost 2m Palestinians living there.

KRG Urges Opposition Groups to Stop Using Kurdish Territories against Iran

KRG-logo

In recent weeks, Iranian border guards have clashed with several terrorists and opposition groups in the country’s western areas, particularly near the borders with Iraqi Kurdistan.

The Kurdish Council of Ministers issued a statement on the clashes near the Kurdistan Region border areas with Iran and Turkey.

The statement reaffirmed the KRG’s commitment to the protection of its borders with neighbouring states and urged opposition groups to avoid launching attacks on Iran and Turkey using Kurdistan’s territory.

At the same time, it called on Tehran and Ankara to stop shelling Kurdish regions in their fight against opposition groups, as the bombardment has caused villagers to abandon their homes, as well as damaging livestock and crops.

Here is the full text of the statement:

In the past few days, the borders of Kurdistan Region were attacked by the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Turkey, injuring a number of Kurdistan Region civilians, forcing dozens of villagers to abandon their homes, and damaging livestock, crops and the natural environment of Kurdistan Region.

The Kurdistan Regional Government is concerned about the injuries and damages and is asking the neighbouring countries, Iran and Turkey, to end their attacks against Kurdistan Region borders. The Kurdistan Regional Government reiterates that its policy of having friendly relations with the neighbouring countries has not changed and it is committed to international laws to protect the borders of neighbouring countries and to work for achieving peace and stability for the people of Kurdistan Region, Iran, Turkey and the entire region.

In the meantime, we object the use of Kurdistan Region’s territories and borders by some of the Iranian opposition groups and Kurdistan Workers Party [PKK] to launch attacks against the neighbouring countries. We ask all parties to stop using Kurdistan Region territories to launch attacks against the neighbours of the Region and respect the stability, legal obligations and friendly relations of Kurdistan Region with its neighbours.

10 Days, Still No News of Iranian Fishermen Apprehended by Saudi Arabia

Saudi- Persian gulf

Saeed Khosravi, Vahid Khosravi and Majid Mahini headed out to sea on June 14 from Jofreh pier in Bushehr, but unintentionally trespassed Saudi’s border on June 15. The captain’s wife has grown so worried that she bursts into tears every time anyone asks her about her husband and brother-in-law, Asr-e Iran reported, as translated by IFP.

Jaber Ansari, former spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, approved the arrests of the Iranian fishermen by Saudis, but said, “The vessel was not a military one, though”.

The family of the missing persons are going through some rough times while searching fruitlessly for their loved ones. No-one knows if Saudi Arabia will bother to hold a trial for them, or if the fishermen have been accused of any charges in addition to the illegal border crossing. They even reached out to the Bushehr’s Parliamentary representative for help, but it useless, because he was either unavailable or busy attending different meetings or committees.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister noted that the ministry had taken some measures regarding the whereabouts of the fishermen, but only the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry is allowed to give details about it. Unfortunately, the arrested fishermen’s streak of bad luck continued, since getting hold of the spokesman became an onerous job due to of its unfortunate coincidence with the new appointments in the ministry.

Mrs. Khosravi, the captain’s wife, feels utterly exhausted and emotionally worn out from her sustained but futile efforts to get some news of her husband and brother-in-law. She hopes that the Saudi government holds the trial as soon as possible and allows the fishermen to make phone contact with their family. After 10 anxiety-ridden days, the family of the arrested fishermen have nothing but their hope for a phone-call. Authorities are expected to take serious measures to address the case, and should not sit on their hands waiting for the lethargic Saudis to make a move.

Flight Delayed over Security Concerns

Security

With all passengers aboard, the Boeing 737 aircraft was moving on the taxiway when the flight security team noticed a suspicious object inside the plane.

After the 142 passengers were swiftly evacuated, safety units stepped in and searched the entire aircraft, including the cargo. However, no security threat was discovered and the passengers boarded the plane again to fly to Mashhad.

Flight security in Iran comes within the purview of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

Legal Chief: US Human Rights Claims Weakened by Bahrain and Yemen Actions

Larijani

“The US and Europe’s lies about (supporting) human rights,” were unveiled. “They support attacks against the Bahraini and Yemeni people, all of them being war crimes”, Amoli Larijani said, addressing a ceremony in Tehran.

He described human rights as an instrument in the hands of the superpowers and the international organizations to put pressure on independent countries like Iran, and questioned the situation of human rights in the US and Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, both of which are Washington’s allies.

Saudi Arabia, backed by the US and certain Arab states, launched its military aggression against Yemen in March 2015 in a bid to reinstate fugitive President Mansour Hadi. More than 9,800 Yemeni people have been killed and at least 16,000 others injured.

Since mid-February 2011, Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests demanding that the ruling family relinquish power.

The Al Khalifa regime is engaged in a harsh crackdown on dissent and widespread discrimination against the country’s Shia majority. Scores of people have been killed and hundreds of others injured or arrested in the island country.

Earlier this month, the government suspended the main Shia opposition party, al-Wefaq, accusing it of having links to foreign terrorists and inciting hatred. Sheikh Ali Salman, al-Wefaq’s secretary-general, was arrested in 2014 on charges of inciting violence. His sentence was doubled to nine years on appeal last month.

The cabinet decided to revoke the citizenship of Sheikh Isa, an indigenous Bahraini who applied for nationality to get a passport in the 1960s, after a presentation by the interior ministry. The lack of judicial oversight raised concerns among rights groups.

Government Permits Private Sector to Issue Participation Bonds

Iran-Rials---Money

Following a suggestion put forward in an Iftar banquet [an evening meal when Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast] “to authorize large companies to release participation bonds” for the first time in the country, Rouhani said that that was an attainable goal, and assured that he would pursue its implementation right away, Mizan reported, as translated by IFP.

Mohsen Jalalpour, head of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture, posted the news on social media from the President’s Iftar banquet for businessmen and representatives of the private sector. His post read:

“Dr. Masoud Hajarian asked for authorization for issuing participation bonds by the private sector’s large companies. The President took a moment to confer with Dr. Jahangiri (First Vice President) and Dr. Tayyebnia (Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance), before saying, “I will personally take up this issue and we’d better make quick preparations for it.” President Rouhani emphasized his promise after I [Jalalpour] shed some light on the benefits of the plan, such as that ‘big companies can cover their financial needs via releasing participation bonds while the banks’ capital can be allocated to small and medium-sized enterprises.’”
