Iran’s Top General Hopes for Liberation of Muslim Lands

The senior general on Monday sent a message to Iranian military and civilian officials to felicitate them on the upcoming festival of Eid al-Fitr, which marks an end to the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

In his message, Major General Baqeri expressed the hope for the prosperity of Muslim nations in light of unity, and for the full liberation of Islamic lands from occupation.

Known as the Feast of Breaking the Fast, Eid al-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims all around the world.

This year’s Eid al-Fitr is expected to fall on Wednesday in Iran.

The statistics released by the SCImago ranking site indicates that Iran has advanced to higher positions in scientific products in the field of aerospace in 2015, IRNA quoted Parviz Karami, a scientific official from President’s Office, as saying.

Iran ranked 11th in terms of scientific production in aerospace in 2015, higher than Spain, the Netherlands, Brazil, the Switzerland, Mexico and Ukraine, he went on to say.

According to the official, Iran claimed the first position in the Middle East and 11th in the world in 2015 by publishing 341 articles and 101 citations.

The 2012 London Olympics discus throw runner-up Ehsan Haddadi won the title in Luxembourg though he still stands far from his personal record.

Iran’s Olympian discus thrower came first at the international event with a throw of 62.32 meters far.

Haddadi, who is staying at a training camp in Germany, is attending several tournaments despite his injury in order to improve his results.

“Since the injury is bothering me, I take up physiotherapy sessions and have participated in various tournaments to improve my training records before Rio Olympics,” Ehsan Haddadi noted, adding, “There is no other choice and I hope to obtain satisfactory results with tolerance and effort.”

FM Zarif Secretly Meets Top Clerics in Qom

According to a report by Mizan, as translated by IFP, Zarif met with Grand Ayatollah Hossein Vahid Khorasani and Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi.

During the meetings, which were held secretly without the presence of any journalist, Zarif briefed the senior clerics on the Foreign Ministry’s activities as well as the latest regional developments.

Former Iranian Diplomat Raps Bahrain for Revocation of Top Cleric’s Citizenship

“The move by Bahrain’s King (Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa) to sign the order to revoke the nationality of one of the most noble citizens of Bahrain (Sheikh Isa Qassim) will undoubtedly make the country enter a new phase of the internal crisis… which will increase the gap between the people and the regime,” former Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Sunday, July 3.

“It seems that such decisions are part of the results of the Bahraini rulers’ dependence on aliens,” he said, adding that the move also has its roots in the secret relations between Manama and the Zionist regime of Israel.

In conclusion, Amir Abdollahian emphasized that the Al Khalifa regime should be aware that the sole solution to the Arab country’s problems is a political one and that oppression cannot help end the ongoing crisis.

Bahrain announced on June 20 that the citizenship of Sheikh Qassim has been revoked, accusing him of sowing sectarian divisions.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.

Amnesty International and many other international rights organizations have frequently censured the Bahraini regime for the rampant human rights abuses against opposition groups and anti-regime protesters.

Suicide Bomber Strikes in Saudi Arabia Close to US Consulate in Jeddah

Jeddah

Saudi Arabia’s interior ministry said in a statement early on Monday the attacker detonated his suicide vest when security guards approached him near the parking lot of a hospital.

Ministry spokesman Mansour al-Turki said in the statement the attacker caught the attention of the security guards, who noticed he was acting suspiciously at an intersection located on the corner of the heavily fortified US consulate, located by the Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital.

Most of the consulate’s staff had reportedly moved offices to a new location.

The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia confirmed in a statement for US citizens that there were no casualties or injuries among consular staff. The embassy said it remains in contact with Saudi authorities as they investigate the attack, the Associated Press reported.

The Saudi interior ministry did not specify if the attacker was intending to target the US diplomatic compound, saying an investigation was underway to determine his identity.

The state-linked Okaz news website said the bomber died in the attack, and that no other deaths were immediately reported.

The Sabq news website reported that two security guards were wounded in the attack, which took place early on Monday.

A 2004 militant attack on the US consulate in Jeddah left nine people dead.

In June, the Saudi Interior Ministry reported 26 terror attacks had taken place in the kingdom in the last two years. Local affiliates of ISIS [also known as ISIL or Daesh] have targeted minority Shiites and security officials.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei met a group of Iranian university students on Sunday, July 3. In the friendly atmosphere of the meeting, many students delivered their speeches and asked their questions. Some of them even criticized the Leader while they thought it would have consequences for them, but Ayatollah Khamenei welcomed such criticisms and said that it is not a crime. Almost all newspapers covered the Leader’s remarks in the meeting on their front pages.

The leakage of 20 million Iranian mobile phone users and official reactions to the issue also received great coverage today.

Iran Welcomes Kazakhstan’s Election to UNSC

“The country has been elected as the non-permanent member of UNSC for a two-year period, from 2017 to 2018, and it is the first country from Central Asia to become a non-permanent UNSC member state,” Qassemi said, as reported by Khabar Online and translated by IFP.

“Kazakhstan is able to play a positive role in the UNSC while the world is faced with various crises,” he went on to say.

The 193 members of the United Nations General Assembly elected Sweden, Bolivia, Ethiopia and Kazakhstan to serve on the world body’s Security Council for a period of two years, starting from 1 January 2017.

Under the UN Charter, the Security Council has the primary responsibility for international peace and security, with all UN Member States required to comply with Council decisions. The Council’s 10 non-permanent seats are allocated according to a rotation pattern set by the Assembly in 1963, to ensure a proportionate representation over time from the different parts of the world: five from African and Asian States; one from Eastern Europe; two from Latin American States; and two from Western European and Other States.

At today’s election, the General Assembly members voted by secret ballot for five seats divided by geographical grouping – two from Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, two from the Western Europe and Others Group, and one from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Bolivia and Ethiopia were chosen by their regional groups and had no competitors. Kazakhstan won the seat reserved for Asia Pacific against Thailand, while Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden had competed for two seats for Western Europe.

The newly-elected countries will replace Spain, Malaysia, New Zealand, Angola and Venezuela.

The Security Council has 15 members, including five permanent. The five permanent members, each with the power of veto, are China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Other current non-permanent members are Japan, Egypt, Senegal, Ukraine and Uruguay.

The Security Council is also responsible for determining the existence of a threat against peace and to respond to an act of aggression. It is also responsible for finding peaceful means to settle a conflict or a dispute between States. In some cases, the Council can resort to sanctions or even authorize the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security.

The Security Council also recommends to the General Assembly the appointment of the Secretary General and the admission of new Members to the United Nations.

Tehran Stock Exchange joins World Federation of Exchanges

5a4ccbab-08d6-465f-94c0-bb05468ed31d

Hassan Qalibaf Asl, chair of the TSE, has told Iranian media that the WFE has in a letter approved TSE’s membership, noting that the Iranian market will join the world body after the Securities and Exchange Organization of Iran (SEO), gains its rightful place within the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).

SEO is Iran’s regulatory body that supervises and develops the domestic capital market while IOSCO is an association of organizations that regulates the world’s securities and futures markets. The WFE, aka the International Federation of Stock Exchanges, is the trade association of 64 publicly regulated stock, futures, and options exchanges.

Qalibaf Asl said the move allows for the Iranian capital market entry into the global network of stock exchanges and access to information of those markets. This way, noted the official, international investors can observe and match other market indices with the Iranian ones and would see the Iranian counterpart as a competitor.

The official added that TSE’s integration into the WFE will provide an opportunity for the Iranian market to develop and promote its global status through participation in international capital market conventions and work groups.

The Tehran Stock Exchange was established in 1967. Currently, more than 700 companies with a combined market capitalization of over 170 billion dollars are reportedly listed on the TSE.

TSE, which is among the five biggest markets in the Middle East, is considered as one of the world’s best performing stock exchanges.

The market has surged over 20% since the implementation of a nuclear deal on January 17 when TSE ended the day at about 65,000 points, even as global stock markets have tumbled.

Despite a decline in the past two years, its overall index has been steadily going up recently.

All investors at the TSE are required by law to have a broker. Before Iran’s nuclear agreement that prompted sanctions relief earlier this year, the Tehran Stock Exchange had been in free-fall, but soon the trend reversed.

Tehran-Washington Cooperation on Syria Impossible: MP

Naghavi

“Our stance on Syria is totally opposite to that of the US; therefore, we cannot be in a same position with the US,” said Spokesman of Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini.

The US goal is to weaken the Resistance Front, he noted, adding that Iran is a supporter of Resistance while the US seeks to undermine it, as reported by ISNA.

His remarks came after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei dismissed claims made by Washington pertaining to its willingness to engage in talks with Tehran over regional issues.

In a speech on Saturday, July 2, Ayatollah Khamenei said that Tehran is not interested in any coordination with Washington as the USA’s main goal is to reduce Iran’s presence in the region, Press TV reported.

The Leader also noted that the manner of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by the West proves that the US administration and Congress still maintain animosity towards the Iranians.
