Fake US Embassy in Ghana Shut Down after 10 Years

fake embassy in ghana

According to a report covered by ISNA in Persian, the building that operated as a US embassy in Ghana was a fake, the US State Department says.

The enterprise, which issued fraudulently obtained legitimate visas, counterfeit visas, and other false identification documents, was overseen by figures from Ghanaian and Turkish crime rings working in cahoots with corrupt Ghanaian officials, the US State Department said in a statement. It operated three days a week in Accra, the capital.

The State Department did not say how many people may have entered the United States illegally using documentation issued by the crime ring, nor did it say how the ring may have obtained official documents.

Visas and passports from 10 different countries were found during raids on the nondescript stucco building with the corrugated tin roof, the State Department said.

Authorities shut down the operation after receiving a tip last summer and conducting a joint investigation by diplomatic security agents at the real US embassy in Ghana, Ghanaian authorities and other international partners.

The operation also uncovered a fake Dutch embassy in Accra, the State Department said, as reported by CNN.

The sham embassy advertised its services through fliers and billboards to cultivate customers from Ghana and neighbouring countries, the State Department said.

Booby-Trapped Quran Copies Found in Mosul

A source told Kul al-Iraq website that the ISIS terrorists had planted bombs in the copies of Holy Quran and left them in streets and in front of houses in the village of Kan’ous, near Mosul.

The Iraqi army announced the liberation of the village on Wednesday, November 30, IQNA reported.

Planting explosives in least expected places, including inside the copies of Islam’s holy scripture, is not a new technique employed by the Takfiri [extremist] terrorists.

Back in June 2015, after flushing out ISIS terrorists from the eastern parts of Iraq’s Diyala province, Iraqi security forces found a series of booby-trapped Qur’ans in the areas ISIS had fled.

Gruesome violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since ISIS terrorists launched an offensive in June 2014, and took control of swathes of Iraqi territory.

The militants have been committing heinous crimes against all ethnic and religious communities in Iraq, including Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and others.

US Not Empowered to Violate Nuclear Deal: Iran

“The US cannot [violate the deal] and is not in the position to move in the opposite direction of this accord and oppose it, nor is any other country,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Monday in his weekly address to the press.

The accord, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was clinched in July 2015 between Iran on the one side, and the US, Britain, Russia, France and China plus Germany on the other. It lifted nuclear-related sanctions against Tehran in exchange for limits on its nuclear activities.

Qassemi further said given the agreement’s multi-national nature, “it will have a strong international backing and its contravention is not something that could happen easily.”

Recently, the US Congress voted to extend Washington’s sanctions law against the Islamic Republic, known as the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA), although the JCPOA has removed all nuclear-related sanctions against Tehran.

On his campaign trail, US president-elect Donald Trump had made several highly-controversial remarks against the accord, raising speculations that Washington may take steps in breach of the accord under the new government.

Qassemi said Iran had made “all necessary calculations” to respond should the US reneges on its promises.

“We will not let others violate the Iranian people’s rights,” said Qassemi, stressing that the Iranian administration will defend the nation’s rights.

“A country, which is about to celebrate the 38th anniversary of its [Islamic] Revolution and has braved several rounds of US sanctions, has no worries about new ones.”

The official, however, said Tehran was still monitoring the developments inside the US, adding, “One should see whether the US president would veto the ISA or not.”

‘Myanmar Must Stop Muslim Plight’

Elsewhere in his remarks, Qassemi said the Islamic Republic was against discrimination of any kind against the world’s minorities.

In the same context, he called on Myanmar to the persecution of its Rohingya Muslims, which has raised concerns among international rights groups over the past months.

The 1.1 million-strong minority, which the government brands as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, has been suffering widely-reported systematic aggression for years.

The Myanmarese army has recently stepped up its crackdown on Rohingya Muslims in the state of Rakhine following a deadly attack on the country’s border guards on October 9. The government blamed the assault on armed Rohingyas.

US Looking for Annulment of Nuclear Deal: Iranian MP

According to a report by IFP, Ali Motahari, the vice-speaker of Iran’s Parliament, said no one has ever trusted the US, and all Iranians know Washington’s deceitfulness.

“We should not fall in Trump’s trap, because they are looking for a way to annul the JCPOA [nuclear deal with Iran],” he noted.

“I feel their plan is to violate the nuclear deal, and we should wait and see if the deal is supposed to be annulled, they themselves should do it,” Motahari added.

He noted that some 12 mine explosions have taken place since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 20) as a result of which 9 people have been injured.

By Imposing Sanctions, the West Deprived Itself of Iranian Rich Culture: Bulgarian VP

popova

“By imposing sanctions on Iran, the West has deprived itself of this country’s rich culture for 37 years,” said Margarita Popova, the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria.

She made the remarks in a meeting with Abbas Khamehyar, the International Deputy of Culture and Islamic Communications Organisation, who recently visited Bulgaria.

According to a report by Mehr, Popova added added “the West has missed the chance of exchanging cultural values during these years, which is an extensive damage to Western people.”

“I believe that benefiting from Iran and Bulgaria’s great cultural and scientific capacities is the best and fastest way to form relationships between the two countries and to compensate for wasted time,” she said.

“In my opinion, by being involved in culture and mutual cultural values, both countries will benefit from a higher security. The security is a top issue in today’s world; therefore, the mutual projects gain more value,” Popova noted.

“I believe that we should know different cultures and make them communicate. We should accept and understand them to make the security more attainable,” Popova went on to say.

The Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria also talked about her wish to travel to Iran and said, “I’m willing to meet Iranian cultured women.”

Persian New Year Re-Inscribed as UNESCO Cultural Heritage

Nowruz

“Nowruz dossier, involving seven nations, had been registered in UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in October 2009. After an incorporation proposal was made by five other nations, including Iraq, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan, this file was reedited and resubmitted to UNESCO,” said Mohammad Hassan Talebian, the Deputy Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO).

Headed by Iran, the new 12-nation Nowruz dossier was recently presented and inscribed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage at the eleventh session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from November 28 to December 2, 2016.

According to Talebian, the multi-national Nowruz dossier is UNESCO’s first and most important intergovernmental file to put together related cultural domains and to establish joint cultural associations, capacity building, education and other intergovernmental activities.

Nowruz is the biggest international file inscribed in UNESCO, aiming to maintain the nature and peace in nations linked to this tradition, according to a report by ICHTO’s website, as translated by IFP.

The New Year in Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan is celebrated on March 21st known as Nauryz, Navruz, Nawrouz, Nevruz, Nooruz, Novruz, Nowrouz or Nowruz.

For two weeks, various customs take place including a special meal, family visits, public rituals and street performances to encourage peaceful communities, shared and promoted through participation.

Iran’s Other Inscriptions at UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage

During the recent meeting in Addis Ababa, Iran’s periodic reports about Naqqali, Iranian dramatic story-telling, and traditional skills of building and sailing Iranian Lenj boats in the Persian Gulf, were also evaluated.

“We submit our periodic reports about measures taken to conserve these arts to UNESCO,” he said, adding that the above-mentioned files, registered in UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2011, require immediate protection.

Iran’s Intangible Cultural Heritage registered in UNESCO’s list include Nowruz, the Radif of Iranian music, the traditional skills of carpet weaving in Fars, Pahlavani and Zoorkhaneh rituals, Qalishuyan rituals of Mashhad-e Ardehal in Kashan, dramatic art ritual of Ta‘ziye, the traditional skills of carpet weaving in Kashan, the music of the Bakhshis of Khorasan, the traditional skills of building and sailing Iranian Lenj boats in the southern Iran, and Naqqali, the Iranian dramatic story-telling.

Iran Prepared to Promote Strategic Ties with China: FM Zarif

n3340423-5499897

Speaking in a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Zarif said Tehran and Beijing have common views on issues of global significance, saying there are no obstacles in the way of the expansion of bilateral ties.

Zarif praised Tehran-China relations as warm and strong, saying Iran is ready to align itself with China in all areas as the two nations have mutual interests and a common approach towards international affairs.

The officials billed a January visit to Iran by Chinese President Xi Jinping as historical. The two-day trip featured the signing of 17 cooperation documents.

The Chinese official, for his part, said his country supported Iran’s accession to the regional security group Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), of which the Islamic Republic is currently an observer member.

The two sides also laid emphasis on the need to fight terrorism on the global arena, Press TV reported.

They further reminded that all parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear accord signed last year between Iran on the one side, and the US, Britain, Russia, France and China plus Germany on the other, had to remain fully committed to their contractual obligations.

Wang said the JCPOA is a multilateral agreement endorsed by the UN Security Council, whose implementation should not be affected by any of those countries’ domestic developments.

He was referring to a recent US Congress vote to extend Washington’s Iran Sanctions Act (ISA), a move Tehran has slammed as a violation of the nuclear deal.

Zarif arrived in China as the second leg of an Asian tour that took him earlier to India for the 6th conference of the ‘Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process’.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Beijing on Monday, Zarif said Iran is determined to work with China as a “strategic partner.”

“We try to raise the economic relations between the two countries to a strategic level,” he added, as reported by Tasnim.

The foreign minister also pointed to his accompanying delegation as a distinguishing feature of his trip, saying it is comprised of businesspeople, entrepreneurs, and representatives from 18 knowledge-based companies.

He noted that furthering relations between the two countries was among the subjects highlighted in talks held between Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and Chinese President Xi Jinping during his trip to Tehran earlier in the year.

The Iranian top diplomat is scheduled to pay a visit to Japan after high-profile meetings in China.

Works by Famous Modern Iranian Poet Translated into Arabic

shamlou

Maryam Heydari translated a selection of poems by Ahmad Shamlou, modern Iranian poet, to Arabic. The Egyptian Public Authority for Culture Houses edited the book before publishing it in the North African country.

According to a report by IRNA, Egypt’s Al-Rai wrote this collection of poems, called “Hadiqat al-Maraya” [The Garden of Mirrors], acquaints the reader with a modern, human poetic style, devoid of red lines and barbed wires.

This was the first time that Shamlou’s poems were translated to Arabic. However, there had already been translations of his works into several other languages; to name Swedish, English, Japanese, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Armenian, Dutch, Romanian, Finnish, Kurdish and Turkish.

Shamlou was arguably the most influential modern Iranian poet. His poetry is complex; yet his imagery, which contributes significantly to the intensity of his poems, is simple.

He basically uses the traditional imagery familiar to his Iranian audience through the works of Persian masters like Hafez and Omar Khayyam.
