Golden Cigarettes New Way to Show Off Wealth in Tehran

Smoking is a pricy enough habit, but a new golden cigarette product is taking expensive tastes in Iran’s capital to an all new high.

According to a Farsi report by the Fararu news website, with each sold for almost $16, these flakes of tobacco rolled in shiny golden papers, which are made from edible gold leaves, are the latest trend and hobby among the ‘rich kids of Tehran’ with a lot of money to burn.

They even post photos of themselves while smoking these cigarettes on social media.

While researchers have announced that inhaling gold particles is highly dangerous to health, such warnings have failed to stop these young rich people from smoking these shiny cigarettes to show off their wealth.

Iran Successfully Tests Satellite Carrier, Opens New Space Centre

The center, home to Iran’s first fixed launch platform, administrates the development, launch, and navigation of Iranian satellite carriers.

Designed and built in compliance with international standards, the Imam Khomeini National Space Center is going to handle all space projects in the low‑Earth orbit (LEO).

Simorgh satellite carrier is capable of sending satellites weighing up to 250 kilograms into an orbit around the Earth with an altitude of 500 km.

Iran has in recent years made great headways in the space technology thanks to the efforts made by its local scientists.

The country successfully launched its first indigenous data-processing satellite, Omid (Hope), into orbit in February 2009.

‘ISIS Seeking to Establish Cyber-Caliphate’

Cyber-Caliphate’

A top Iranian police official says the Information Communication Technology (ICT) has undergone sea changes and, accordingly, influenced people’s lifestyles as well as social, cultural, economic, political, and security relations in societies.

The comments were made by Brigadier General Kamal Hadianfar, the head of Iran’s Cyber Police, which monitors activities in the virtual space and deals with cybercrimes.

“Renowned world organizations predict that cybercrime, cyber-attacks, and information theft in the virtual space will inflict $2 trillion worth of loss on the global economy in 2019,” said the senior police official while addressing a conference held in Tehran on preventing and combating cybercrime, which was also attended by Iranian deputy foreign minister and a number of foreign ambassadors.

He said experts believe each technology needs 10 to 15 years after being introduced to be fully developed.

“Otherwise, criminals will abuse these technologies,” he added, according to a Farsi report by ISNA.

ISIS Seeking to Establish Cyber-Caliphate

He said the international community is concerned over growing activities by terror groups in the cyberspace.

“These groups conduct activities in the virtual space to attract, train and recruit individuals to use them in terrorist operations,” he noted.

“Today, by taking a look at ISIS’ new manifest published recently, we realize that the group is changing its strategies.”

After the defeats they suffered, he said, ISIS terrorists are now working in the cyberspace to recruit new operatives and establish a “cyber-caliphate.”

He went on to say that terrorist groups are taking advantage of social networks to promote their activities.

General Hadianfar added that ISIS is using software on the Internet to coordinate its terrorist operations.

He said the police department dealing with cybercrime has offices in 135 locations across Iran and has detected “more than 80% of the crimes committed in the virtual space,” adding the department has been engaged in international cooperation on a large scale (in over 1,500 cases) to tackle cybercrime.

He then took a swipe at countries which do not accept responsibility for hacking attacks, and urged the UN to draw up an intentional convention to oblige countries to take responsibility for that.

‘Rouhani’s Gov’t Not Qualified to Handle Iran Nuclear Case’

Hossein Shariatmadari, the editor-in-chief of the leading conservative newspaper Kayhan, says if the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers keeps going on with the current condition, Iran will sustain further losses.

In a Farsi interview with the Mizan News Agency, he said the government is not qualified enough to handle the nuclear case and added the case should be addressed by a council of leading experts and specialists.

Shariatmadari went on saying that over the past four years, the government has shown that it lacks the required skills to deal with the nuclear deal.

The government has just wasted most capacities as well as opportunities of the Islamic establishment without gaining any achievement, he added.

“The government claimed that the JCPOA is the product of a garden whose fruits are set to ripe later, but after four years we have come to find out that the fruits are rotten, and are inflicting damages on us,” he said.

If continued in this way, the JCPOA will inflict more damages on the Islamic Republic, he noted, adding that the handling of the nuclear case should be taken away from the government and given to a council of leading experts and specialists.

“Of course, some members of the government can be included in the council, but the council should not be led by the government because the government has proved over the past four years that it is not capable of handling the nuclear case. Once bitten, twice shy,” he noted.

Shariatmadari concluded that if the government is fair enough to review its record in the nuclear deal over the past four years, it will admit itself that it lacked enough capability to deal with the nuclear deal.

Iraq Fights ISIS on Behalf of Entire World: Envoy

Addressing a ceremony in Tehran to mark Mosul liberation, Iraqi Ambassador Rajeh al-Mousavi said Iraq has managed to remove the most dangerous terrorists of the world, ISIS, who have been threatening the security of all states across the world.

“We have demolished forever a group calling itself the Islamic State,” he said, adding the members of the group were from one hundred counties who could have served the role of a time bomb in their own homelands.

According to a Farsi report by Entekhab news website, the Iraqi diplomat went on saying that the Iraqis from all cities devoted their lives to liberate Mosul from the grip of terrorism. “The world needs to know that the Iraqis are a civilized nation with a long history,” he noted.

Al-Mousavi also praised the role of the top clerics in the liberation of Mosul and said by issuing certain religious degrees, the clerics managed to mobilise hundreds of thousands of Iraqi fighters in campaign against terrorism.

The ambassadors said the operation to liberate Mosul began nine months ago.

“The Iraqi forces including army, police and Poplar Mobilization Units along with the Kurdish Peshmerga and even tribal members took part in the operation. They fought in various regions under the command of the central government of Iraq.”

The ceremony to mark Mosul Liberation was held on Tuesday at the compound of Iraq’s embassy in Tehran. It was attended by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Hassan Qashqavi, and a number of foreign diplomats including British, Palestinian and Pakistani ambassadors to Tehran as well as a number of Iraqis residing in Iran.

Iran President Congratulates Indian Counterpart on Taking Office

In a message on Thursday, President Rouhani congratulated India’s new President Ram Nath Kovind on taking the office.

The history of cordial cooperation between Iran and India as well as their rich cultures and age-old civilizations make the expansion of bilateral ties “a strategic necessity” in order to open a new chapter in the relations, President Rouhani said.

He further expressed the hope that the Indian president’s tenure would mark closer interaction between Tehran and New Delhi in various fields.

Ram Nath Kovind took oath as the 14th president of India on Tuesday.

Iran Starts Construction of Mideast’s Biggest Solar Farm

Construction of the major power plant kicked off in an area between the cities of Kerman and Bam, in a ceremony attended by Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian.

The project requires an investment of $140 million for building the 100-megawatt (MW) solar power plant.

In April, Iran launched its biggest solar plant near the central city of Isfahan. The project, which took seven months to be completed, had been constructed jointly by Iran’s Ghadir Electricity and Energy Company and Greece’s Metka engineering firm.

Iran Starts Construction of Mideast's Biggest Solar Farm

Iran is heavily dependent on natural gas and oil to generate power and one of the most energy-intensive countries in the world because government subsidies for fossil fuels encourage inefficient energy use.

Iran is seeking 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2020, with more than 4,000 megawatts expected to come from wind power. The country has approximately 141 megawatts of installed wind power.

Iran, Ukraine Agree to Ease Visa Processing

On Monday, Iran and Ukraine discussed various dimensions of mutual cooperation in a meeting in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev and agreed to foster collaboration in a number of fields, particularly in visa issuance.

According to a Farsi report by IRNA, during the meeting held between an Iranian consular delegation and a Ukrainian one, the two sides agreed to ease visa processing and issuance for each other’s citizens.

Ali Chegini, the director general of the consular affairs of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, and his Ukrainian counterpart, Sergei Alekseevich, headed the two teams in this meeting, which was also attended by the Iranian ambassador to Kiev, Mohammad Beheshti Monfared.

During the talks, the two sides stressed the importance and benefits of holding regular negotiations and highlighted the key role such meetings play in strengthening all-out ties and developing people-to-people contacts.

They also discussed such matters as issuing group visa, eliminating the process of granting political visa and easing visa processing for their businessmen and traders, students, university staff, sportsmen and artists.

The two delegations also exchanged views on ways to fight drug and human trafficking as well as organized crimes and reached beneficial agreements on these issues.

Addressing the same gathering, Beheshti Monfared said this meeting and the arrangements made in it are a basis for and a huge leap forward towards expanding relations.
