“Rouhani Should Turn UNSC Meeting into Trump’s Impeachment Session”

Majid Ansari, a senior reformist figure and a member of Iran’s Expediency Council, said President Rouhani can leave the meeting with victory, promoting the Iranian nation’s authority and honour across the world.

“President Rouhani should attend the meeting; but even if for any reason he fails to do so, it is our Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who must take part in the meeting.”

However, President Rouhani’s attendance is preferable, a report by Jamaran website quoted him as saying.

In response to a question on whether or not the Iranian president and foreign minister should take part in the upcoming UNSC meeting, Ansrari said Iran’s absence from international arenas is against its national interests.

“In our absence, the enemies begin to unilaterally spread lies about us and as we saw in the past, they can tarnish our image in the world,” he noted.

Ansari underlined that President Rouhani should have a strong presence in the UNSC meeting with full legal and diplomatic preparedness.

“In our possible absence, the participants may decide to make a decision or issue a statement against us. So, the president should attend the meeting with full legal and diplomatic information to defend the Iranian nation’s rights,” he noted.

He went on to say that given Trump’s weird stances towards the European and some regional states and his threats against some international judiciary bodies, “time is now ripe for us to express our protest calmly at the presence of the UNSC members to the US unilateral and brutal sanctions.”

He added Iran can also highlight the US violation of the international treaties and the Iran nuclear deal.

Ansari then stressed that Iran’s legal capacities are strong enough to enable it to turn the UNSC meeting into the impeachment session of Trump.

“During the JCPOA talks, by its legal power and diplomacy, Iran managed to overcome all the obstacles in the way of the deal,” he said, adding Iranian negotiators could launch a legal fight with world powers during the talks.

The Iranian politician also said today the US, the Zionist regime and their allies feel inferior in legal terms against the Islamic Republic.

He blamed some political forces inside Iran for promoting self-censorship and self-isolation and said these features reveal weakness and fear.

“Iran is a strong country with a great and revolutionary nation,” he concluded.

The participation of President Rouhani in the UNSC meeting, slated for later this month under the chairmanship of US President Trump, has sparked harsh debates in Iran.

Some politicians argue that Rouhani should not attend the meeting. On the other hand, there are many others who maintain that he should take part in the session and defend Iran’s rights.

Rial’s Depreciation Threatening Iran’s Border Markets

It’s been a while that the threats and challenges against Iranian border markets, particularly in the western and southern, areas have turned into a hot topic for discussions in various circles in Iran but as things stand, no measure has been adopted so far to tackle the serious problem .

Last month, the governor of the northwestern city of Marivan in Kurdistan province warned about the negative impacts of the massive purchase of basic commodities in the city’s market by foreigners arriving in through Iraqi borders saying this has turned the commodities into rare goods for the local residents over the past months.

“About 1100 Iraqis arrive in Marivan on a daily basis through Bashmaq border to purchase high amounts of basic commodities,” Mohammad Shafi’ee was quoted as saying in a report by Aftab-E Yazd newspaper.

He described the number of Iraqis arriving in Marivan as unprecedented and warned about a looming crisis in the region.

The fall of Iran’s Rial against other currencies over the past months is cited as the main reason behind the growing visits of Iraqis to Kurdistan and Khuzestan provinces to provide their basic commodities.

Earlier, Director of a Travel Agency, Mostafa Fathollazadeh said tens of thousands of Iraqis visit Khuzestan’s Arvand Free Zone daily to buy their basic commodities.

“The border markets are shrinking due to the visits of the Iraqis. The Iraqis mainly from southern regions of Iraq including Basra enter Arvand, Khorramshahr and Abadan to purchase their basic commodities like meat, chicken, bread and even salt. This is mainly due to the devaluation of Iran’s Rial against Iraq’s Dinar,” he said.

This comes as an Iranian lawmaker said angrily just recently that due to the devaluation of Iran’s national currency, Iran’s local markets have turned into an appealing destination for travelers from neighboring states.

“The reality on the ground is that as our fellow countrymen in the border areas gradually lose their purchasing power due to Ria’s depreciation, the residents of the neighbouring states enjoy the privilege to buy an increasing amount of goods in return for lower money,” Majid Kianpour said.

On the other hand, Gholam-Reza Sharafi, another Iranian lawmaker from Abadan province, touched on the new challenges against the border markets.

In an interview with Aftab-e Yazd, Sharafi elaborated on the recent volatile in the markets of the border areas and said based on an undeclared law, Iranian and neighboring border residents have been involved in exchanging commodities over past years.

“In our region, the exchanges used to be carried out mainly through the Persian Gulf states but recently due to Iran’s Rial devaluation, we see that the value of Iraq’s national currency has increased ten times against our currency. This, in turn, has significantly raised the purchasing power of Iraqis and since they suffer from lack of infrastructure to produce their basic commodities, naturally they flood to Iran to provide the commodities in Iranian markets,” he noted.

In response to a question on the possible impacts of such exchanges on Iran’s economy, the lawmaker added unfortunately Iran’s free zones along the border areas have turned into an appropriate destination for neighbouring residents for their basic goods.

“It goes without saying the new situation is threatening us because our goods easily become rare for our own people. This inevitably manipulates our markets,” Sharafi noted.

He then elaborated on a mechanism to overcome the problem and said Iran needs to establish balanced economic exchanges with the neighboring states and added to this end, Iranians have to stick to the law and exert further efforts to create jobs, attract tourists and foreign investors and promote our domestic goods.

“If we violate the law, such economic chaos in the border markets becomes inevitable. For example, at present, foreigners can empty parts of our markets with just a 100-dollar bill. Therefore, a high amount of Iranian goods are taken out in return for little money,” Sharafi said.

Touching on the necessary measures to overcome the challenges, the lawmaker said it’s not too late yet and the Islamic Republic can tackle the problem by relying on economic advisories from experts.

“Sanctions are not just threats even if they are challenging. Today, we can easily bypass the sanctions through adopting precise measures and establishing good relations with the outside world. This is a good chance for us to test ourselves at the economic field and prove our abilities to the world,” he concluded.

Iran Welcomes Russia-Turkey Agreement on Syria’s Idlib

In a statement on Tuesday, Qassemi said the meeting between the Russian and Turkish presidents and their agreement on settling the Idlib issues is a big step towards eliminating the remnants of terrorists in Syria.

“By facilitating the political settlement of Syria’s issues and considering all humanitarian aspects, the agreement can help the process to restore peace to Syria and end the life of terrorist groups in the country,” he said.

“Stopping violence and bloodshed while eliminating terrorism in the area is one the most basic and principled positions in Iran’s foreign policy,” he said.

“We hope that the outcome of the Sochi meeting, within the framework of the positive and successful Astana process and in a continuation to the recent Tehran meeting and diplomatic efforts by Iran, would quickly help end disasters for the Syrian people and cleanse the country of violent elements while taking into account humanitarian concerns,” he added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday after a meeting with his Turkish counterpart that an operation to retake the city of Idlib, which is controlled by opponents of the Syrian government and now home to about 3 million people, will not be carried out in the upcoming weeks.

Putin said Russian and Turkish troops are to enforce a new demilitarized zone in Syria’s Idlib region.

Israel Has Not Given IAEA Any Document on Iran: Russia

“I have no information that the Israelis have already handed over their materials to the IAEA,” the Russian-language RIA Novosti quoted Ulyanov as saying on Monday.

“If they (Israelis) have done so, the secretariat of the IAEA will analyze them, and it will probably take a long time because of the huge amount of materials announced by the Israeli prime minister,” Ulyanov added.

On a live TV program in late April, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Israel had about 100,000 paper and digital documents that prove that Iran’s nuclear program had a secret military dimension, according to the report.

The remarks came as IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano once again affirmed that Iran has fully implemented its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the multilateral agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program.

Addressing the 62nd regular session of IAEA General Conference in Vienna on Monday, Amano said, “Since the last General Conference, we have continued to verify and monitor the implementation by Iran of its nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.”

“Iran is implementing its nuclear-related commitments under the JCPOA. It is essential that Iran continues to fully implement those commitments,” the Japanese head of the IAEA said.

“The Agency continues to verify the non-diversion of nuclear material declared by Iran under its Safeguards Agreement. Evaluations regarding the absence of undeclared nuclear material and activities in Iran continue,” Amano added.

The IAEA is responsible for monitoring Iran’s nuclear activities as per the nuclear deal and should also help Iran develop its nuclear energy program.

On May 8, the US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA, which was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Iran President, Japan PM to Discuss US Sanctions in New York

Japan hopes to maintain ties with Iran, on which it depends for crude oil imports. The leaders are planning to meet on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly later this month for the sixth year straight, it said, The Japan Times reported on Sunday.

US President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers in May.

Washington has been calling for a halt to oil imports from Iran by Nov. 4 and intends to impose sanctions on countries that continue to buy oil from the country.

Japan has been asking for a waiver during negotiations with the US but has faced difficulties securing an exemption.

Japanese oil distributors are set to halt oil imports from Iran in light of the US request, and Abe is meeting with Rouhani to discuss the situation, the source said. Iran is the sixth-largest exporter of crude oil to Japan and accounts for around 5 percent of its imports.

Abe and Rouhani are also likely to discuss economic cooperation during their meeting on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 73), which will open on September 18.

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono might visit Iran around mid-October if he retains his post in a potential Cabinet reshuffle Abe might hold in early October after his party’s presidential election, the source further said.

Assistant Dogs in Iran to Help Autistics Control Their Disease

Use of assistant dogs is among the new methods used by many medical centres in the world to control autism disorder in children.

“Iran has already developed a new plan to use assistant dogs to control autism disorders. The plan is now set to be implemented as a pilot plan in the capital Tehran but we are prepared to implement it in any other part of the country in the near future,” said Amir Esmaeili, a donator who has financed the plan.

He then expressed hope that the plan could provide the children suffering from autism disorder with a chance to have a better future.

Majid Sadeqi Ja’fari who is charge of implementing the plan, said a number of animal trainers have already been recruited to train the assistant dogs for the purpose.

For now at least 10 assistant dogs and 10 animal trainers along with a number of psychological teams have been stationed in nine centres, he noted.

According to Sadeqi, patients suffering from autism disorder spend at least one hour per day with the assistant dogs in the centers. “The treatment course lasts for 72 hours during which children with autism interact with the dogs that have learned certain necessary skills to deal with them.”

He then went on to say that psychologist teams begin their work in due time amid the emotional interactions made between the children and the assistant dogs.

The plan is set to become operational for the first time in Iran as of September 23. The Autism Foundation and Iran’s Autism Association are in charge of implementing the plan. A number of children with autism between 7 and 14 years old who have already been recognized will be dealt with in the pilot plan.

Efforts are underway in the same centres to develop new plans to use assistant dogs for dealing with blind and deaf people as well as those suffering from psychological problems in the near future.

Iran Says Trump Not Eligible to Chair UNSC Meeting

Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, the Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, believes after German strongman Adolf Hitler, who committed various crimes and violated numerous international treaties, no one has violated so many conventions as Trump did.

He pointed to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s upcoming trip to New York to attend the UN General Assembly, and said he must question Trump’s presidency over the UN Security Council meeting in his speech.

“This year’s UNGA has coincided with the United States’ presidency over the UN Security Council, so Rouhani’s presence should be more effective than previous years.”

He added that experts will prepare President Rouhani’s speech, but a few issues must be addressed seriously in Rouhani’s speeches and meetings at the UN.

“The first issue is the illegitimacy of the United States’ presidency over the Security Council. After the withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear deal, Tehran took a logical position and showed it is responsible towards the world. The Islamic Republic was not trapped by the US shenanigans, and adopted a diplomatic stance.”

At this year’s summit, the president should outline this position of Iran and state the costs that Iran has paid for it, underpinned Falahatpisheh.

President Rouhani should articulate Iran’s expectations from other countries in the world, and emphasise that they should not follow the sanctions of the United States and appreciate Iran’s multilateral approach, stated the lawmaker.

He added that the president should also show the authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran at this summit.

Falahatpisheh’s remarks were in reaction to criticisms against President Rouhani’s visit to New York, which began with the comments of Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, the chairman of the Assembly of Experts a few days ago.  

He was strongly opposed to a possible meeting between Hassan Rouhani and Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

Following these remarks, Mahmoud Vaezi, the president’s chief of staff, called such statements “baseless”.

However, Rouhani recently said that Iran receives a message once in every two weeks from the United States to negotiate.

“On the one hand, they are putting pressure on the Iranian nation, and on the other hand, they send messages that we can hold talks,” said Rouhani.

AFC Praises Iran’s U-16 National Football Team
