Iran, Syria Sign 18 Deals to Expand Business Ties

The deals were signed during the visit of a Syrian business delegation to Tehran.

Mahmoud Naser al-Fotouh, the head of the Syrian delegation, expressed the hope that the economic and trade ties between Tehran and Damascus could increase as much as the current high level of political relations between the two nations.

In a Monday meeting with officials of Iran Chamber of Cooperative, the Syrian official said the two strategic allies have sacrificed many of their people to liberate the Arab country from the terrorist groups.

“Therefore, our economic and trade ties as well as joint investments should increase to a level that is proportional to the extensive political relations between the two nations,” he noted.

He then referred to a series of meetings that have been held between Syrian and Iranian high officials to facilitate expansion of ties amid the challenges created by the US’ unilateral sanctions and said so far at least 18 agreements have been signed at the University of Tehran between Iran and Syria in this regard.

Al-Fotouh also said Syria attaches significant importance to Iran as a partner in it reconstruction era and added Iranians stood behind Syria during the Arab country’s hard times.

“Many young Iranians sacrificed their lives to liberate Syria from terrorist groups. So, the country should have a significant role in the reconstruction of Syria,” he said.

He described trade ties between Iran and Syria as strategic and long-term and said Syria gives priority to the countries playing a role in Syria’s fight against terrorists in its reconstruction era and said Syria will invite Iranian public and private sectors to launch projects in the reconstruction era of the country.

He finally called on Iranian economic players to visit Syria for playing a role in the country’s reconstruction.

City Art Rejuvenates Tehran in Lead-up to Persian New Year

The 4th Annual Baharestan Urban Arts Festival arranged by an organization tasked with beautifying the capital city is underway across Tehran. It has different sections such as “coloured eggs, little walls of my little city, environmental arts, installation art and statues.”

Baharestan is an event held in the run-up to Nowruz (the start of the Persian New Year). The festival involves urban arts.

Kianoosh Gharibpour is a member of the event’s policy-making committee which is also tasked with choosing top works of art presented at the festival.

He says the event is held just days before Nowruz, and, hence, it is welcomed by citizens and artists as a national festival.

The event is important in that it paves the way for young artists, so that they will be able to display their works of art in public. It will help enhance artists’ skills and upgrade citizens’ visual literacy.

Iran President in Iraq to Expand Mutual Trade to $20bn

Rouhani made the comment in Tehran before leaving for Baghdad, which is his first visit to the Arab country during his five years in office.

President Rouhani is in Iraq at the official invitation of Iraqi President Barham Salih and Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, heading a high-ranking political-economic delegation.

Rouhani said his trip is mainly aimed at promoting mutual relations with Iraq.

“Iran and Iraq have special relations. Iranian people have, over the past years, passed a major test, and that is the Iranian people and government rushed to the help of people in the region whenever they faced problems and sought help from the Iranian nation and government,” said President Rouhani.

“We stood by Iraqi people in tough days, and today when peace and security has taken hold in Iraq we still remain by the Iraqi nation’s side,” he said.

He underlined that the two countries can work together in a whole range of areas.

Rouhani touched upon the Iraqi president’s trip to Iran as well the recent visit to Tehran by the Iraqi parliament speaker, adding, “Numerous visits by both countries’ senior officials are taking place.”

President Rouhani said the Iranian and Iraqi nations have always had good and brotherly relations.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the president referred to the United States’ anti-Iran campaign.

“The Americans seek to promote Iranophobia, and they have always sought to drive a wedge between Shiites and Sunnis in the region,” he noted.

“They have always been trying to sow discord in order to both secure their interests and protect the usurper Zionist regime [of Israel],” said the president.

He said the Americans’ efforts have almost always failed in the recent year.

“We saw recently that the Warsaw meeting in Poland, which was aimed at turning into a victory for the US and exerting pressure on Iran, turned into a defeat for the US and grandeur for Iran, and even US allies in that meeting rejected the United States’ demand and said they would remain in the Iran nuclear deal and wanted to have economic and political relations with Iran,” said Rouhani.

He said Iran regards having relations with its neighbours as the most significant issue in its foreign relations.

Iran Condemns ‘Barbaric’ Saudi Air Raid on Yemeni Civilians

In a Monday statement, Bahram Qassemi denounced the air raid as “barbaric” and expressed regret over international organizations and human rights circles’ remaining tight-lipped in the face of inhumane war crimes committed by the aggressors against Yemen.

After suffering famine and the consequences of the human catastrophe created in Yemen for years, the innocent and defenceless Yemeni women and children mercilessly fall victim every day to the weapons donated or sold by some Western countries to the aggressors, Qassemi said.

The voice of these women and children, he added, will not be heard as long as they are alive.

“However, their innocent deaths will go down in history as proof of disgrace for those who falsely claim to be advocates of human rights,” he said.

“These so-called supporters of human rights not only remain silent in the face of killing of women and children in Yemen every day, but are accomplices to these crimes by selling arms to the aggressors,” Qassemi added.

A recent air attack by Saudi-led fighter jets on Talan village left at least 20 Yemeni women and children dead.
