Tanker Attacks Another False Flag Operation by US: Iran

Addressing lawmakers before an open session of Parliament began on Sunday, Ali Larijani touched upon the history of Washington’s false-flag attacks. He said during the Second World War, the Americans deliberately targeted their own vessels near Japan to fabricate a pretext for animosity.

He also said the attacks seem to have been a “complement” to Washington’s sanctions.

“Apparently, these moves are complements to [US] economic sanctions because they failed to get any results by imposing sanctions,” he told.

The top parliamentarian then scoffed at remarks by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who had urged Iran to use diplomacy in response to diplomatic measures. Larijani said Washington’s economic terrorism against Iran is, by no means, a diplomatic move.

He also lashed out at the US for arming Saudi Arabia to press ahead with its war against the oppressed Yemeni people.

The Front Altair oil tanker, moving Ethanol from Qatar to Taiwan with the flag of Marshal Islands, caught fire at 8:05 local time on Thursday, 25 miles from Iran’s Jask Port.

A second Panama-flagged tanker Kokuka Corageous, moving Methanol from Saudi Arabia to Singapore, also caught fire at 9:50, 30 miles from Jask.

The US, the UK, and some of their allies in the Persian Gulf have blamed Iran for the attacks, but Tehran denies any involvement in the “suspicious” incidents.

Iranian Women Account for 41% of State Employees: VP

Massoumeh Ebtekar

Masoumeh Ebtekar said on Saturday this is an honour for the Islamic Republic as it shows that women’s capacities are being used in the appropriate way in the country.

She also noted that “there are no problems in using women’s capabilities in managerial positions, and we expect that special attention would be paid to women’s individual qualifications in appointments.”

The vice-president said that according to President Hassan Rouhani’s decree, until the end of the twelfth administration, 30 percent of the country’s managerial posts should be given to women.

The Iranian government has undertaken several measures to empower women and enhance their activities in social arenas and management, in the hope it will help accelerate the development of the country.

Gholam-Hossein Dehqani, the Iranian deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, says the Islamic Republic is determined to help boost participation of women in the job market as part of five-year development plans.

Speaking in a conference last year, Dehqani said the government is working to provide women with appropriate job opportunities, support equality in wages for men and women, protect security and health of women in the workplace, help them maintain life-work balance and set heavy punishment or those who harass female workers.

Dehqani said the Iranian government will remain faithful to its obligations to improve the status of women within the Islamic context.

Saudi Arabia Closes Airports amid Yemenis’ Retaliatory Attacks

Yahya Saree said the UAV unit of Yemen’s armed forces made the airstrikes on the airports in southern Saudi Arabia.

“In the first airstrike, our drone unit targeted the central command of Jizan airport and in the second operation, the fueling centre of Abha airport was hit,” he said.

He underlined that the operations were carried out with a high accuracy leading to the closure of the airports.

Saree also warned that Saudi Arabia will go through more painful days if it continues to target the impoverished nation of Yemen.

Nearly 16,000 Yemenis have lost their lives in Saudi airstrikes on Yemen since 2015. According to the UN, the invasion of Yemen by Saudi Arabia has led to a humanitarian crisis in the region.

Yemeni armed forces have increased their attacks on Jizan and Abha airports over the past weeks.

Last week, the UAV unit of Yemeni armed forces targeted Jizan airport using Qasef K2 drones. The Yemeni armed forces hit the airport four times last month inflicting heavy damages on it.

The spokesman of Yemen’s Ansarullah movement has lashed out at Saudi Arabia for keeping its blockade on Sana’a airport and said the aggressors must know that their airports are within Yemeni army’s reach.

Mohammed Abdulsalam said the aggressors should come to realize that targeting Saudi airports is the simplest way to make a tit for tat move against Saudi Arabia.

INSTEX Not Translated into Reality Yet: Iran

In a meeting with the Chairwoman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the French National Assembly Marielle de Sarnez in Tehran on Saturday, Larijani said despite several rounds of negotiations held between Iran and the European Union, French President Emmanuel Macron’s promise to preserve the Iran nuclear deal has not yet been realized.

“When there is no appropriate ground for banking ties, how can Iranian and French firms press ahead with their economic activities?” Larijani said.

The parliament speaker went on to say that France’s Total company was among the first foreign firms which left Iran after the US unilateral withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal back on May last year.

For his part, the French senior lawmaker said Paris is seeking to preserve the JCPOA and is making efforts to implement the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX).

“Efforts are underway to preserve the Iran nuclear deal,” she added.

After the US withdrawal from the Iran deal, the European Union set forth the INSTEX to keep its economic ties with Iran amid the US sanctions. But over one year on, the mechanism has not yet been implemented. Iran has warned that preserving the JCPOA requires multilateral efforts by all remaining signatories of the deal.

France Reaffirms Resolve to Save JCPOA in Tehran

The remarks were made by Chairwoman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the French National Assembly Marielle de Sarnez in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi in Tehran.

In the Saturday meeting, Araqchi and de Sarnez exchanged views on different subjects, including the Iran nuclear deal as well as regional and international issues.

The French parliamentarian stressed that the JCPOA is regarded as progress and a diplomatic success. She said it is important to preserve the Iran nuclear deal and every effort should be made to maintain the agreement.

She also touched upon Iran’s key status in the region and emphasized the necessity of holding talks with Tehran on regional and international issues.

Araqchi, in turn, said, “The economic war launched by the United States against Iranian people is targeting the security and stability of the whole region and has caused tension in the region.”

“The Iran nuclear deal is the only successful diplomacy experience to solve problems in the chaotic West Asia region. By withdrawing from the agreement, the US has jeopardized diplomacy and multilateralism and has subjected this experience to failure,” he said.

Iran Summons UK Ambassador over ‘Unacceptable’ Accusations

Iran Summons French Envoy over Macron’s Anti-Islam Stances

In the Saturday meeting with the British envoy, Iran slammed the UK government for its blind and hasty repetition of the US’ allegations against Iran regarding the tanker attacks.

Assistant Foreign Minister for Europe Mahmoud Barimani expressed Tehran’s strong protest to the British government’s unacceptable anti-Iran stances.

Barimani said the accusations have been levelled without presenting any documents and proof, and are in line with Washington’s policy in that regard.

“In the [closed-door] meeting of the UN Security Council last Thursday, no one but the UK accepted the unsubstantiated accusation levelled by Washington,” said Barimani.

“Even many well-known media outlets rejected the claim by the US and Britain, citing statements by the crew and authorities at the company which owns the tankers,” he said.

The top Iranian official denounced the baseless accusations and expressed Iran’s strong protest in that regard. He demanded an explanation from the British side and called on the UK to rectify its position.

“The popular reactions against Britain emanate from such approaches adopted by this country in support of US officials’ unfounded allegations about different issues, including the issue mentioned above,” he said.

He urged the British government to adopt realistic stances which conform to the realities of the policies adopted by the Islamic Republic of Iran and the need for London to revisit its approach.

The British ambassador, in turn, said he will immediately inform London of Tehran’s stance.

Iran Analyst Advises British Officials to Learn from Blair’s Mistakes

In a tweet on Saturday, Ataollah Mohajerani, a former culture minister and a pro-reform analyst, advised British officials particularly, the Tory leadership frontrunner Boris Johnson, to read once more the memoirs of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

“British officials and particularly Johnson who is close more than even to the premiership thanks to Trump’s support should read Blair’s memoirs once more,” he was quoted as saying in a report by Khabar Online website.

“Tony Blair who is also known as B Liar has described his government’s support for Saddam in war on Iran as a strategic mistake by the US and the UK, a destructive mistake,” he noted.

According to Mohajerani, in his memoirs, titled A journey, Blair says he has done what he thought were right but today he wishes he had never committed them.

Blair’s self-penned book is about his tenure as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Published in the UK on 1 September 2010, it covers events from when he became leader of the Labour Party in 1994 and transformed it into “New Labour”, holding power for a party record three successive terms, to his resignation and replacement as Prime Minister by his Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown.

Mohajerani’s recommendation came after the UK joined the US to accuse Iran of being behind the recent oil tanker attacks in the Gulf of Oman.

After carrying out its own assessment the UK Foreign Office issued a statement saying, “It is almost certain that a branch of the Iranian military attacked the two tankers on 13 June. No other state or non-state actor could plausibly have been responsible.”
Iran has vehemently denied the accusation as unfounded.

Tehran, Ankara Underline Opposition to US Sanctions, Coercion

The two sides met on the sidelines of the 5th Summit of the Heads of State of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which was held in the Tajik capital Dushanbe.

During the meeting, the Iranian president stressed that Tehran is interested in expanding its mutual ties with Turkey in all areas particularly in the economic field.

Efforts to strengthen the current cooperation to raise the trade volumes between the two sides to $30bn should be stepped up, he noted, according to a report by dolat.ir.

“Over the past years, long strides have been taken to deepen the two sides’ mutual relations and the trend should be strengthened further,” he said.

President Rouhani then described the regional cooperation between Iran and Turkey as significant and said bilateral relations with Turkey and trilateral relations between Iran, Turkey and Russia in regional areas including the Astana Talks to reconstruct Syria are established in line with strengthening regional peace and security.

For his part, Erdogan said the mutual ties between Iran and Turkey have been expanding day by day and added it is highly significant to strengthen and deepen the current ties in various areas.

“Turkey is determined to expand its ties with Iran in all areas,” he said.

Iran Says Security of Regional States Interwoven

Rouhani made the remarks on Saturday in a meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, which was held on the sidelines of the 5th summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building in Asia (CICA) in the Tajik capital Dushanbe.

In the meeting, Rouhani said bilateral, multilateral and further cooperative consultations are the only ways to reduce differences and resolve regional problems, and the Islamic Republic is always ready to contribute to this objective.

The president noted that expansion of relations with neighbouring and friendly countries, in particular Qatar, is in line with the priorities of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“Stability and security of the countries of the region are interlinked and we are after the rule of moderation, brotherhood, wisdom, and prudence in relations between countries.”

“The Muslim world needs unity and integrity, and the two countries can undoubtedly work together in regarding this,” he added.

Rouhani said the relations between Iran and Qatar are fraternal, friendly and in the interests of the people of the region, noting that there are many capacities to strengthen the economic relations between the two countries which should be used in the interests of Tehran and Doha.

For his part, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said “Qatar believes that solving all the differences in the region is possible only through dialogue, collective co-operation and use of political resolutions.”

The Qatari Emir also said that Doha is ready to develop ties with Tehran in all areas of interest.

President Rouhani has travelled to Tajikistan to attend the CICA summit – which has gathered together leaders from 27 countries in the grouping and 13 observer states and international institutions.
