What Are Industrial Dust Collectors and How Do They Work?

What Are Industrial Dust Collectors and How Do They Work

What are industrial dust collectors? A lot of people are often uncertain of what dust collectors are and why there are necessary for any company or facility. Most people are familiar with blowers and ducting, but incorporating a dust collection system and familiarizing all of its components can be confusing. Hopefully this article can shed some light on the how a dust collection system works and why certain types are better than the other.

Industrial Dust Collectors Design

Industrial dust collectors are designed to purify air or gas by removing contaminants or dust particles from the air. Dust collectors can be classified into four main types:

  • Filtered collectors
  • Wet scrubbers
  • Inertial separators
  • Electrostatic Precipitators

Most dust collectors come with ducting that is connected to the inlet of a collector, a way to filter the dirty air inside of the unit, a blower system to create airflow through the ducting system and the dust collector’s internal body, a cleaning system for the filters, and a discharge system for collecting dust particles for waste or reclaim purposes. All of these parts may vary slightly depending on the application simplifying these essential components to dust collection systems.

What’s the Best Industrial Dust Collector?

Because there’s a wide selection of brands and types of industrial dust collectors on the market, it’s important to narrow down your search based on some important questions that needs answers: What is your application? Will you be using your dust collector indoors or outdoors?  What characteristics does the contaminant or dust particle have? Are you going to use the dust collector continuously or intermittently?

It is very important to address these basic questions so that a professional can determine and set up the appropriate dust collection system for your facility. If you’re aiming for something that has low maintenance costs, low cost of ownership, effective suction ability, meets any local or national NFPA/OSHA regulations, and create the cleanest work environment possible, then you need to invest proper time and consideration on each application. This is in order for the dust collector to work for your individual process needs.

The best dust industrial dust collector is obviously one that is sized appropriately, comes with a good warranty, has a cleaning system that is effectively handles the exact dust the system is encountering, has a properly engineered ducting system, and comes with a filtration method that can handle the type and size of dust particles going through the unit.

What Industrial Dust Collector Do You Need?

It should be noted that there are no “wrong” types of dust collectors. But, each type has its own strength and weaknesses. Choosing a particular type or model of dust collector depends on different criteria that suit the company’s needs.

We’ll try to provide a simple overview of some of the features of the three most common types of dust collectors found on the market. They are as follows:

SHAKER DUST COLLECTOR

Manual or motorized shaker dust collectors use old technology. But, they are not right choice if you are looking for a continuous, high-performing option for your industrial facility.

Details:

  • Long, required periodic breaks to clean the filter bags
  • Preferable to operate this dust collector at a low air-to-cloth ratio to minimize downtime.
  • Best used occasionally or alternately, ideal for mid-sized cabinet making shops and/or vocational schools.

CYCLONIC DUST COLLECTOR

In order for this unit to be effective, it needs a huge amount of larger dust particles. This type of dust collector uses the cyclonic effect to keep larger particles separate while collecting finer particles using filter bags.

Details:

  • This design requires higher space.
  • The cyclonic effect results to high-static pressure, which leads to high-energy consumption.
  • Its self-cleaning filter bag system allows for continuous use.

RECTANGULAR DUST COLLECTOR

This type of dust collector offers a number of customizable options that caters to the client’s needs. This type is among the most effective when it comes to filtering capacity versus energy required for proper operation of the unit.

Details:

  • Its self-cleaning filter bag systems allows you to use it continuously
  • Low pressure loss is caused by high-performing, low-energy blower.
  • Design requires less height.

Choosing an Industrial Dust Collector

There are several factors that influence your choice of industrial dust collectors. The first would be according to the dispersion of dust.

Dust dispersion has a huge effect on how an industrial dust collector functions. So, when choosing the type of dust collector, you need to understand the dispersion of dust first.

Second, you need to consider the dust concentration.

The greater the concentration of dusts in the inlet, the better the industrial dust removal power. But, this usually leads to the increase of dust concentration of the outlet. Therefore, we cannot completely say that higher industrial dust removal power equals to better quality device. This simply depends on the many factors.

If you’re using a filter dust collector, do note that lower the initial dust concentration translates to better overall dust removal capabilities. In the case of high initial dust concentration, you’d be better off choosing a continuous cleaning method with minimal change in pressure loss.

Third would be adhesion to dust.

The adhesion method between dust and wall is and can be very complicated. The smaller the dust’s particle size, the larger the specific surface area becomes. This also means the adhesion is greater too. If you’re using a cyclone dust collector, dust adheres to the wall due to the centrifugal force and therefore results to a higher risk of clogging.

Conclusion

Educating yourself on what industrial dust collectors are and how they work can help you in making an informed choice. Making the right choice in dust collection equipment for your business can be a good investment. It’s important to look closely and not be afraid to ask questions about the options available for you. It’s also good to compare products and prices as well. Not only will you be able to keep your workplace a safe and dust-free place but you’ll end up saving money in the long run as well.

Iranian Experts Build Homegrown Subway Propulsion System

Iranian Experts Build Homegrown Subway Propulsion System

Taam Locomotive Aria, MANA, The Academic Centre for Education, Fan-e Generator and several other companies have joined hands to build the system.

The consortium has been able to design different parts of the propulsion system, relying on its knowledge and domestic capabilities.

One of the most important components of the propulsion system is the MCM. MANA Company, in collaboration with Taam Locomotive Aria, as one of the leading companies in the field of propulsion systems, has been able to build a prototype of the MCM system on the basis of existing academic capacities and experiences to develop the Tehran metro lines.

This MCM is designed to meet all standards and performance requirements and is undergoing environmental and performance tests.

It is also lighter than the current ones and can be made smaller if needed. The MCM engineering sample can be mass produced after completing the simulation test period and obtaining all the required certifications.

According to estimates, Tehran’s subway needs up to 1,050 new cars by the year 2022.

Given the specific circumstances and the increasing need for new cars, and in accordance with Article 6 of the Sixth Development Plan Act which requires the domesticisation of 85% of subway cars within the country, knowledge-based companies in collaboration with the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology have begun to take effective steps in this regard.

Mideast Security Can Only Be Ensured by Regional Coalitions: Iran

Mideast Security Can Only Be Ensured by Regional Coalitions Iran

“Only those coalitions, which are free from influence and interference of foreigners, can solve problems, restore security [to the region] and last [for a long time],” Shamkhani said in a meeting with the visiting Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi in Tehran on Monday.

The Iranian official’s remarks were clear reference to the failure of the United States in forming a so-called coalition comprising regional and extra-regional states to allegedly protect security of shipping in the Persian Gulf.

On November 7, the International Maritime Security Construct (IMSC), a US-led military coalition in the Persian Gulf, officially launched its operations supposedly seeking to protect shipping lanes near Iranian territorial waters.

The US Fifth Fleet based in Bahrain announced that the IMSC, formerly known as Operational Sentinel, had opened its command center in the country.

Last month, Iran slammed the US move to create a coalition in the Persian Gulf, saying it will only exacerbate insecurity and instability across the world.

“History shows that American coalitions have always been nothing but misnomers, which have not only failed to create security but also caused more insecurity and instability in different parts of the world,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi said.

The IMSC launched its operation nearly five months after Washington announced that it was seeking to form a “multinational maritime effort” in response to a series of mysterious explosions targeting vessels in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman earlier this year.

The US and Saudi Arabia were quick to blame Iran for the incidents without providing conclusive evidence.

Washington announced a deployment of 1,000 additional troops in the region following the attacks.

Iran has roundly rejected the accusations, emphasizing its commitment to regional maritime security and its importance in safeguarding international trade.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Shamkhani said, “A country that is not committed to any of its obligations, whether in connection with Iran or in exchanges with other countries, cannot be trusted.”

Those countries, which have played a leading role in creating tension and insecurity in the region and caused chaos by waging different wars and spreading terrorism, have never been after stability and security in the Persian Gulf and only seek to serve their own interests and plunder the region, the senior Iranian official warned.

Stressing that the persistence of the Saudi-led war in Yemen is indicative of the warmongering nature of arrogant powers and their stooges in the region, the official said, “The continuation of this genocide will only serve the interests of enemies of regional peace and security such as the US and Israel, and Saudi Arabia needs to yield to the demands of the resilient Yemeni people to stop posing further danger to regional stability and security.”

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing Ansarullah.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has so far claimed more than 100,000 lives.

Oman ready to help remove tension in region: Alawi

The Omani foreign minister, for his part, hailed regular consultations between Tehran and Muscat on regional and international issues and said any tension in the region would not be beneficial to any Persian Gulf littoral states.

Alawi added that the establishment of sustainable security in the region calls for consensus among all regional countries and settlement of misunderstandings.

He expressed his country’s readiness to make use of its potential to ease ongoing tensions and prepare the ground for constructive dialog among regional states.

Iran Rejects Arbitrary Preconditions for Peaceful Nuclear Activities

Iran-Nuclear

Iran’s permanent representative in the international organizations and the UN office in Vienna, Kazem Gharibabadi, delivered a speech in the Second Special Session of the IAEA General Conference, held in Vienna on Monday to approve the appointment of the IAEA’s new Secretary-General Rafael Grossi.

“Iran believes that peaceful employment of the nuclear energy must not be obstructed by the illegal and unilateral coercive measures, and must not be subject to any arbitrary and illegitimate preconditions from the other countries either,” the Iranian ambassador said.

Iran regards the IAEA as a very important organization, he added, adding, “As a developing country with considerable nuclear activities and programs, Iran has always respected the agency (IAEA) and its prominent role in creating capacities on the basis of its needs and priorities.”

He also noted that one of the major responsibilities of the IAEA is monitoring and verifying Iran’s nuclear activities under the UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

“Iran is a major partner of the IAEA,” Gharibabadi underscored, saying the UN nuclear agency has conducted 688 inspections in Iran in the current year alone, until November 2019, which amounts to 1,376 man-days of inspection.

It is necessary to maintain constructive working relations between Iran and the IAEA, the envoy noted, stressing that such interaction must take place in an independent, professional and impartial process.

The Iranian diplomat finally emphasized that commitment to those principles would guarantee the protection of the three pillars of the NPT and the IAEA’s credibility.

Iran Deplores French DM’s ‘Neocolonialist’ Ploy

Tehran Tells Warring Sides in Caucasus to Respect Iran’s Border Security

In remarks on Monday, General Hatami deplored the meddlesome comments from a European defence official made at a recent conference in Manama.

The Iranian Defence Minister said the Western colonialism that reigned over the region a century ago and was forced out of the region after confrontation with the popular resistance now fancies returning to the region and seeks to milk a cow that US President Donald Trump has mentioned.

“But they (Westerners) should know that people of the region are vigilant and have not forgotten their cruelty and plundering, and that they (Westerners) cannot provoke them (people of region) with rhetoric,” General Hatami added.

There is no doubt that the US government’s soft and hard power has declined across the world, the Iranian Defence Minister noted, and advised his French counterpart to notice the statistics for the number of French nationals who joined the ISIL terrorist group and committed crimes in Syria and Iraq instead of pinning the blame on the others and making provocative comments that are meant to fulfill France’s financial interests.

The French defence minister should explain what positive role her country has played in the fight against the Takfiri ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq, the Iranian general underlined.

“The Takfiri terrorists in the region were defeated at the hands of the armed forces and people of Iraq and Syria and with the help and assistance from Iran and Russia, while the Western powers, including the US and others, did nothing against them other than attempts to manage those groups in their own favor,” the Iranian general stated.

He further slammed as “neocolonialist and irresponsible methods” the plans that the Western officials, including the French defence minister, have proposed for security in the region, saying, “The Western presence and meddling would further complicate the security conditions in the region, which have been already upset by the excessive demands of the US and the Zionist regime.”

The Iranian minister also advised the Western officials to abandon their meddlesome and hegemonic ploys and find a remedy for “the brain death of their own security institutions.”

General Hatami further pointed to the downing of an intruding American drone in the Iranian airspace, saying the powerful Armed Forces of Iran are capable of protecting the country’s territories and airspace.

Iran has spared no effort in recent years to ensure regional stability and security, will continue to strengthen its defence capabilities, and will contribute to the establishment of security in the region according to the Islamic teachings and the Islamic Republic’s policies, he added.

“The extra-regional powers and their opportunistic interference is the main reason for instability and insecurity in the region, and the regional countries have the needed capacity to ensure regional security within a cooperative framework, without interference from the alien powers,” he concluded.

Iranian University Develops Auto Glass Adhesive

Auto Glass

Director of the Sharif University of Technology’s office for interaction with the industries hailed the production of auto glass glue as one successful example of cooperation between the university and the industrial centers.

Researchers at the Sharif University have been working on the project to make the adhesive used in manufacturing auto glass, because the material has been always imported from abroad.

Manufacturing float glass for a single car requires approximately one kilogram of adhesive, whose export to Iran has become an arduous task in recent years due to the escalation of sanctions.

Although a series of efforts had been made to make the special auto glass glue in Iran, a product that would be suitable to use in the weather conditions of Iran and meet the automotive standards had not been developed until recently.

Now the Sharif University of Technology has gained the technical know-how to manufacture the adhesive, which is undergoing the final tests.
