VP: Iran Sees No Limit to Closer Ties with Oman

VP Iran Sees No Limit to Closer Ties with Oman

In a Sunday meeting with Oman’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy in Tehran, the Iranian first vice president said the political ties between Iran and Oman are at the highest level.

“The promotion of cooperation between Tehran and Muscat is beneficial to the Islamic world and the regional countries, and nobody would be harmed by these relations,” Jahangiri added.

Hailing the cordial relations between Iran and Oman as a model for the other regional states, the vice president said, “The region’s major countries, such as Iran and Oman, could play a constructive role in the settlement of today’s problems in the Islamic world by expanding mutual cooperation.”

He further expressed Iran’s readiness to enhance the bilateral and multilateral interaction with Oman, saying, “A rise in the volume of bilateral trade exchanges, which hit $1.3 billion last year, signifies a remarkable growth in the economic ties between the two countries.”

The vice president also highlighted the role of Joint Commission of Iran-Oman Cooperation in preparing the ground for an increase in the volume of trade exchanges, adding, “This commission must identify the ways for the promotion of ties and detect the obstacles, and to pave the way for accelerating and increasing the volume of trade exchanges by strengthening relations between the private sectors of the two countries.”

Among the Persian Gulf littoral states, Oman is the one with which Iran seeks to establish the highest level of trade exchange, Jahangiri added, stating, “The volume of Iran’s foreign trade under the toughest conditions caused by sanctions stands at above $100 billion a year, while Oman can have a share in a large part of these trade exchanges.”

The vice president then pointed to Iran’s decision to lift visa requirement for the Omani nationals, Oman’s move to facilitate visa regime for Iranian visitors, and the operation of direct flights between the two Muslim neighbors, noting, “Such measures and stronger cooperation between the two countries in the transit and shipping sectors could also help raise the volume of bilateral trade exchanges.”

For his part, the Omani Minister of Commerce and Industry lauded the closer direct interaction between the business people of Oman and Iran, saying such contacts and reciprocal visits would be a harbinger of direct trade ties between the two countries.

Al Sunaidy also pointed to a 30-strong delegation of Omani merchants accompanying him in the trip and the “constructive” meetings between the businesspeople of the two countries, saying the time has come for a “big jump in the trade ties” between Tehran and Muscat.

He finally hailed Iran’s facilities and services for the Omani medical tourists and pilgrims, saying a large rise in the bilateral trade ties requires support from the high-ranking officials of the two states.

Armin Rahimian, Mehraveh Sharifinia, Behnoush Tabatabai and Ehsan Karami play in the musical directed by Ahmad Soleimani.

Mary Poppins, which has been onstage in Tehran’s Vahdat Hall since late October, will be performed until December 21.

The original script, written by Julian Fellowes, is based on the similarly titled Mary Poppins children’s books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film, and is a fusion of various elements from the two, including songs from the film.

What follows are YJC’s photos of the musical performed in Tehran:

Huge Fire at Indian Plastic Factory Kills 43

Huge Fire at Indian Plastic Factory Kills 43

The fire swept through the five-story building in the early hours of Sunday, as labourers and factory workers were asleep inside. Some died due to asphyxiation, officials said.

“The problem was the smoke — all the windows and doors were shut and there was dense smoke inside,” said Sunil Choudhary, deputy chief fire officer.

“No one could get out. There was an iron door and it was locked and people were brought out only after we broke the door open. It had become a toxic chamber.”

An eyewitness said some workers had tried to escape from a terrace, but it was locked.

“There are no proper ways to climb or get down, there is no fire safety, there is nothing,” Mohammad Samar said, adding that this was not the first blaze at the site, which was a plastic factory that manufactured toys.

Samar said a number of small, unauthorized factories had been renting out space in the building, and that the complete lack of safety provisions was widely known.

Another eyewitness, who helped with rescue efforts, said he had seen boys trying to escape from the factory’s roof, while others desperately crowded near sealed windows.

“I saw that the boys, who were standing there on the roof, they started screaming … calling out to me … saying ‘Mullah sir please save me,'” Mohammad Manzur said, according to CNN.

Avtar Singh, an assistant division officer for the fire department, said that more than 60 people had been evacuated from the building and the injured were transported to three local hospitals.

Fire officials said they had struggled to reach the factory in the city’s old quarter, a tangle of narrow, busy lanes lined with manufacturing units.

Thirty fire engines were stationed near the site, but only one managed to get to the building and extinguish the blaze through a relay system, Singh said.

The fire, which officials say was sparked by an electrical fault, took almost three hours to put out.

Iran President Submits Budget Bill to Parliament

Iran Parliament to Declare as ‘Terrorist’ US Military Worldwide

Addressing the parliamentarians on Sunday, Rouhani said the next year’s budget is designed to meet the purposes of resistance and countering the sanctions.

Highlighting the enemies’ failure to destroy the Iranian economy, he said the “Americans and Zionists” held the mistaken belief that tough sanctions on the Iranian nation and government would prevent the Islamic Republic’s growth.

The next year’s budget bill signifies that the administration will be running the country in spite of the sanctions, particularly when it comes to handling the oil incomes, Rouhani added.

The president also said that economic signs indicate that Iran’s economic growth, excluding the oil incomes, will be positive at the end of this year.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has on various occasions called for formulation of necessary plans to cut Iran’s dependence on oil revenues and govern the country on the basis of domestic capabilities instead of natural resources.

In comments in April, the Leader emphasized the necessity for a boost to production inside the country as a pillar of the ‘Resistance Economy’ strategy, saying materialization of the Resistance Economy would neutralize the American and Zionist plots regarding oil and other economic issues.

Long-Lasting Engine Oil Made with Nanotechnology in Iran

Long-Lasting Engine Oil Made with Nanotechnology in Iran

Iranian knowledge-based company “Pardis Chemistry Bakhtar” has employed nanotechnology to synthesize a special type of motor oil that contains nanometer sized diamonds.

The technical manager of the Iranian company, Hani Fazeli, says the nanotechnology engine oil reduces fuel consumption by 6 to 8 percent, increases acceleration by up to 30 percent, reduces exhaust fumes by 11 to 31 percent, extends the engine life, and lasts almost three times longer than the ordinary motor oils.

“A normal engine oil in a car would last between 7,000 and 10,000 kilometers under given conditions. If this (nanotechnology) oil is used in the same conditions, it will easily work for 15,000 to 20,000 kilometres,” he explained.

The advanced motor oil that contains nanosized diamonds is available in various grades suitable for different light and heavy weight vehicles, running on gasoline, diesel or other fuels, he added.

Fazeli said the homegrown lubricant was commercialized 8 years ago, is protected by patent, and meets the compulsory standards.

He explained that the nanometer sized particles in the lubricant create an oil film between the piston and cylinder, as if the engine’s parts are coated by a new layer.

The advanced-formula engine oil reduces the friction that normally occurs between the piston and cylinder by 90 percent, thereby reducing energy consumption in the engine, he added.

Fazeli said the nanotech motor oil is being exported to 15 countries, including Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Kosovo, Italy and Iraq.

He said the Iranian knowledge-based company sold the technological knowledge to Brazilian oil company in 2014.

None of the nanotech motor oils in the world would last as long as the Iranian lubricant, namely 17,000 hours, and maintain its viscosity at the same time, he concluded.

Iran Says in Talks with Abuja to Resolve Sheikh Zakzaky Issue

In comments on Sunday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi elaborated on the latest situation of Sheikh Zakzaky, considering a recent meeting between the Iranian Vice President for Economic Affairs and the President of Nigeria on the sidelines of a summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Equatorial Guinea.

“In the recent meeting between Dr. Nahavandian and the President of Nigeria, Mr. Buhari, various subjects have been mooted in the area of economic relations, the regional and international developments, as well as the issue of Sheikh Zakzaky,” he added.

“Moreover, in the constant diplomatic meetings and contacts that we hold with Abuja, negotiations about the Islamic Republic of Iran’s help in settling the problem is on the agenda, and we hope that the consultations and arrangements that are underway with the Nigerian government would expedite the resolution of the problem,” Mousavi stated.

Nigerian authorities recently transferred Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife to a dilapidated prison, where many detainees have so far died due to lack of medical attention.

A High Court ordered the Department of State Services on Thursday to transfer the cleric and his wife, Zinat, to the Correctional Centre in Kaduna state, northwest of the country.

Sheikh Zakzaky, who is in his mid-sixties, lost the sight of his left eye in a 2015 raid by security forces, that left more than 300 of his followers and three of his sons dead. His wife also sustained serious injuries during the raid.

He has been kept in custody along with his wife and a large number of his followers ever since.

Biopharmaceutical Industry Booming in Iran

Biopharmaceutical Industry Booming in Iran

In an interview with Mehr News Agency, Secretary of Biotechnology Development Headquarters at the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology Mostafa Qanei said extensive plans have been devised to produce the needed biopharmaceuticals inside the country.

“Since two years ago, when the sanctions were imposed, we have accelerated the production of biopharmaceuticals and have been considering the other types of medicine as well,” he noted.

There are a total of around 140 biopharmaceuticals, while Iran has managed to produced 22 of them over the past two years, Qanei added, saying the domestic production of such medicines would reduce the need for imports.

He further explained that not all of the biopharmaceuticals are economically feasible to produce, saying Iran has plans to synthesize 33 other important types of biomedicine.

“The knowledge-based companies are going to produce 30 more medicines (biopharmaceuticals) by the next 18 months, and we’ll see those drugs in the ed-treatment-info.com,” the official concluded.

‘Iranian Scientist Freed from US Jail Offered to Stay in America’
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif (right) and stem cell scientist Masoud Soleimani (left) arrive at Tehran's Mehrabad Airport after the latter was released from a US jail within a prisoner swap deal between the two countries.

Mohammad Javad Zarif made the comment after Soleimani was released in a prisoner swap and returned home.

“During this period, he had been offered, several times, that he stay in the US instead of returning to his country or in prison, but this patriotic professor refused to,” said Zarif.

Zarif said Soleimani was exchanged for an American prisoner who had been behind bars in Iran for espionage, but was offered amnesty and sent back to his country.

The foreign minister then touched upon Washington’s efforts to put the brakes on Iran’s scientific progress.

“Over the past 40 years, the US has tried to stop Iran’s progress. The US adopted the ‘maximum pressure’ policy to stop our progress, but to no avail,” he said.

According to Zarif, Soleimani speaks of US wardens, judges and prosecutors being angry at his scientific achievements.

The foreign minister said Washington is dismayed at Iran’s scientific and technological accomplishments as well as Iranians’ self-confidence.

Tehran, UNWTO Discuss Master Plan to Develop Tourism in Iran

Tehran, WTO Discuss Master Plan to Develop Tourism in Iran..

The executive process of formulating a tourism master plan for Iran began at a meeting between Iranian Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Vali Teymoori and UNWTO advisor, Marcello Notarianni, held in Tehran on Saturday.

In the gathering, the two sides discussed the arrangements for formulating a comprehensive plan for development of tourism in Iran.

In comments at the meeting, the deputy minister highlighted Iran’s efforts to strengthen the tourism industry to meet the target of an oil-free economy.

Teymoori stressed that Iran’s tourism industry has the capacity to replace the oil incomes, citing more than 7,000 years of civilization in Iran, its wide variety of climates, numerous natural and historical attractions, the age-old traditions, and a diversity of local cultures, cuisine, and music.

Iran had once devised a tourism master plan back in 2001 in cooperation with the UNWTO for a period of 15 years, the deputy minister added, noting that Tehran now seeks to update the grand plan for a span of 10 years.

Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Ali Asghar Mounesan and Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili reached a written agreement on the sidelines of the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR 2019) in Spain last winter after the UNWTO’s former planning advisor paid a visit to Iran for an initial assessment, Teymoori added.

Highlighting the significance of cultural tourism in Iran, the deputy minister called for closer cooperation with the UNESCO in that sector.

Iran hopes that the initial plans and assistance from more UNWTO advisors would expedite the formulation of the master plan, he added, saying Tehran is also making efforts to develop the tourism industry with the help of the private and academic sectors.

The deputy minister of cultural heritage further voiced readiness to arrange a meeting between the UNWTO advisor and all Iranian sectors engaged in the tourism industry for coordination and discussion about new proposals.

Pointing to the complexities of the tourism industry and the significance of risk management, Teymoori called for a flexible and risk-taking master plan, citing Iran’s different strategies before and after the US government’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal.

For his part, Notarianni expressed the UNWTO’s readiness to help Iran devise a tourism master plan, saying he has worked as a tourism advisor in 30 countries.

The Italian advisor also noted that a comprehensive plan for sustainable tourism development requires coordination among various departments handling training, regulations, financial issues and investment attraction, marketing, visa regime, management of destinations, and rural tourism, among others.

He finally stated that planning is a time-consuming process that requires specialized experiences, asking Iran to mention any proposal it deems necessary for devising the master plan.

Pointing to his recent visit to Oman and the negotiations he held with the Omani officials, Hemmati said, “Facilitation of financial transactions between the economic activists is the key to the expansion of trade and economic ties.”

The CBI governor further noted that efforts are underway to promote the aerial and maritime transportation routes between Iran and Oman in order to strengthen the trade and tourism interaction.

The Omani Minister of Commerce and Industry, for his part, expressed Muscat’s willingness to boost trade ties with Iran, saying his country would spare no effort to facilitate economic exchanges between the two nations.
