Azerbaijan-Armenia Peace Deal Based on Iran’s Proposal: Araqchi

Speaking to reporters at the conclusion of President Rouhani’s visit to Japan, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi said a series of issues were mooted in the meetings between the Iranian and Japanese authorities, including the bilateral, regional and international issues, as well as the subjects pertaining to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) and the US sanctions against Tehran.

“It was decided that the two countries continue close consultations,” he added.

Araqchi also noted the presidential visit to Japan took place in response to a June visit to Iran by Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo during the 90th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Hailing Japan as an “old friend and trade partner” of Iran, the deputy minister said, “We’ve always had close political consultations with Japan. Also this year, it was necessary for the two countries to hold closer and more intensive negotiations because of the 90th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and considering the ongoing developments, including the US pressures (on Iran) and the unfair sanctions that have been imposed (on Iran) after the (US) withdrawal from the JCPOA.”

According to Araqchi, the Iranian and Japanese officials have held “heavy and intensive negotiations” in Tokyo.

President Rouhani left Tokyo for Tehran on Saturday after a tour that took him earlier to Malaysia.

Art Exhibition Features Mythical Figures on Wooden Spoons

Art Exhibition Features Mythical Figures on Wooden Spoons (5)

The same big spoons used to cook food have now been decorated with mythical figures and hung on the walls of the gallery.

“Old Patterns” is the name of the exhibit where works of art by Forough Rayhani was displayed. It was an exhibition where canvases were replaced with spoons featuring characters of mythology.

Rayhani has already held several exhibitions both at home and abroad.

“’Old Patters’ are recurrent patterns manifested in various forms in the myths and legends of different peoples since old times,” says Rayhani.

“This exhibition happened to begin with old spoons which used to be used in cooking in traditional ceremonies,” he adds.

“I decided to paint on these spoons and draw characters which could somehow represent the originality of these spoons,” he says.

“The reason for choosing old patterns was that the personages on the spoons looked like ancient mythical heroes; of course, these mythical characters do not only include those of Ancient Persia, but those of many European countries as well as Egypt,” he says.

The connection between these old patterns and mythical figures is associated with the theory of Jung, which says “these old patters are present in our unconscious self and keep repeating in different forms in our lives.”

Hassan Rouhani - President of the Islamic Republic of Iran

President Hassan Rouhani also urged American authorities to rectify their approach and get on the right track.

“We have no problems holding a dialogue with the United States about our issues, but they should roll back the wrong path they have been treading over the past one and a half years,” said Rouhani in a meeting with senior Japanese managers in Tokyo before leaving for Tehran on Saturday.

“We should not award a wrongdoer; however, we should not block the path if a wrongdoer wants to make up for his mistake,” he added.

President Rouhani also hit out at Washington’s sanctions on the Iranian nation.

“The US pressure on Iran and other countries is a bitter reality which we are facing today, but what is important is that we should find a way under such tough circumstances to continue having trade and cooperation with each other (Iran and Japan) and take steps to serve the interests of the two nations,” he added.

“Undoubtedly, the United States’ illegal sanctions cannot continue in the long run, and the Americans have to abandon this fruitless and harmful path one day,” the president added.

Rouhani also stressed the importance of relations between Iran and Japan as the two states “are two very important and influential countries in Asia and in the world.”

“The two countries have very good potentialities to boost mutual relations,” he added.

He said Iranian and Japanese nations have had friendly relations since old times, and that trade relations between the two nations goes back more than a thousand years.

He also urged Japan to release Iranian assets frozen at Japanese banks, saying the oil revenues date back to the time before US sanctions were imposed, and, hence, the money must be returned to Iran.

One of the popular Yalda dishes in Iran’s northern province of Gilan is Awkonoos (water and common medlar), a traditional food with a unique recipe. Awkonoos is usually found until the next spring in nearly all houses of Gilan, so that the family members can enjoy the traditional food whenever they fancy a fresh, juicy, ripe common medlar fruit, eaten with salt and Persian hogweed.

Zanjan: Khagine Khorma

Khagine Khorma, whose main ingredient is date palm, is the traditional and popular Yalda dinner in the city of Zanjan.

Recipe for Khagine Khorma:

Mash 400 grams of date fruits after removing their stones, and mix the flesh with cardamom, cinnamon, crumbled walnut, and cooking oil. In a separate dish, mix four eggs with a spoonful of vanilla, add 50 grams of yoghurt and a pinch of baking powder, and blend the mixture well. Add sifted flour to the mixture, spread it in a nonstick frying pan (preferably 25×30 cm) that has been slightly oiled in advance, and cook it over a medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes.

When the base, or Khagine, is ready, allow it to cool a little before spreading the date palm mixture onto the base with a spoon or spatula. Then roll the Khagine gently from one side, pour syrup on the dessert, and put it in the refrigerator to let it become fair before being served.

To make the syrup, allow the mixture of water and sugar to boil over the heat to produce a solution. Add steeped saffron and rose water to the syrup, and let it cool down before pouring it on the rolls.

Iran Open to Any Plan for Rise in Oil Sales: President

In a Friday meeting with Prime Minister of Japan Abe Shinzo in Tokyo, President Rouhani highlighted Iran’s contribution to regional and international peace, saying Tehran has worked in cooperation with the neighboring and regional countries to that end.

Hailing Japan’s support for the Iranian-proposed Hormuz Peace Endeavour (HOPE), the president said, “Iran has always fulfilled its responsibility to ensure regional security, and we believe that the Persian Gulf security has been upset by the foreign countries.”

“In order for regional security to prevail, we must eradicate unilateralism, and make the ones pursuing plans other than cooperation on the basis of international regulations realize that they have to choose a different path,” President Rouhani added.

Lauding the close relations between Iran and Japan over the past 90 years, the president said the many meetings between the heads of the two countries during the past six years indicate the cordial and growing ties between Tehran and Tokyo.

President Rouhani also called for efforts to enhance the bilateral ties in various fields, noting, “The two countries can boost cooperation in diverse areas such as energy, science and new technologies, medicine, tourism, sports, customs affairs, as well as the industrial, economic and trade relations.”

He further denounced the US’ “cruel and illegal” sanctions after its withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, saying, “The US’ unilateral withdrawal from the international agreements, like the JCPOA, threatens security and peace in the world.”

Stressing the need for all countries to respect the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, President Rouhani said, “The US sanctions amount to economic terrorism, and the countries fighting against terrorism must stand against this American move as well.”

“Iran has done and will do its utmost to save the JCPOA within the framework of its interests, and we call on the other JCPOA parties to honor their commitments,” he added.

He also noted that the JCPOA parties could force the US to correct its mistakes and follow the right and legal path by fulfilling their commitments to the nuclear deal.

The Iranian president further expressed Tehran’s readiness for any plan for increased economic interaction with the other countries, particularly those resulting in a rise in Iran’s oil sale and export.

Describing the JCPOA as a good model for peace and friendship among the nations, President Rouhani said a phased reduction in Iran’s commitments to the nuclear deal took place after the US withdrawal from the agreement and the Europeans’ failure to meet their commitments.

Washington’s exit from the JCPOA and the imposition of unprecedented sanction on the Iranian nation were not in the interests of anyone, the Iranian president deplored, adding, “The American violation dealt a blow not only to a major international agreement, but also harmed the peace and friendly political relations among the countries.”

Iran welcomes any effort from the other countries to salvage the JCPOA and ensure regional and international security, peace and stability, he underlined, adding, “Naturally, we would not decline any negotiation and agreement within the framework of our interests in this regard.”

“Throughout these years, Iran has proved that it fulfills its interests with logic and dialogue, and has always maintained that effective and lasting agreements would be possible with the logic of dialogue and the win-win concept.”

Slamming the US’ move to scrap the JCPOA as a damage to peace and security, President Rouhani said such American exit did not benefit any party and proved that the sanctions are doomed to be a lose-lose policy.

The Iranian president finally expressed hope that all countries, including Japan, would push for saving the JCPOA.

The Japanese prime minister, for his part, said the reciprocal visits by the Japanese and Iranian official in the recent years have enhanced the bilateral ties.

Abe also voiced Japan’s willingness to promote cooperation with Iran in various fields, particularly in the consular affairs, medical management, crisis management, and earthquake preparedness plans.

The Japanese leader also called for the immediate implementation of the agreements in the tourism industry to boost the relations between the two nations, and highlighted the significant role of the private sectors in the enhancement of economic ties between Iran and Japan.

Prime Minister Abe further reaffirmed Japan’s support for the Hormuz Peace Endeavor, and praised Iran for its “constructive role” in protecting regional security, peace and stability.

Japan has always supported the JCPOA and will continue efforts in that regard, the Japanese leader added, saying Tokyo has launched cooperation with the three European parties to the JCPOA.

President Rouhani has travelled to Japan after participation in the KL Summit 2019 in Malaysia.
