IRGC Urges Large Turnout in Feb. 21 Iran Legislative Vote

Anti-Islamism Expediting Fall of US, Zionism: Iran's IRGC

In a statement, the IRGC said in order to have a “strong Iran,” it is necessary to have a “strong parliament” which has what it takes to help solve people’s economic problems and put up stiff resistance against enemies in a bid to safeguard national interests and the ideals of the Islamic Revolution.

Elections, as a manifestation of national will and religious democracy, is one of the arenas where the great Iranian nation has … over the past 41 years, always shown off Islamic Iran’s grandeur, dignity and power, and regarded elections as a religious, national and revolutionary duty,” read part of the statement.

It also read that a mass voter turnout on Friday will be a slap in the face to “the terrorist and criminal United States” and foil the enemy’s “wicked aspirations.”

The statement also expressed hope that the upcoming parliament will bring together “faithful, brave, efficient, responsible and motivated” members who are loyal to the nation, revolution and the country and will stand firm to deal with the enemy’s economic war and unfair sanctions against Iran.

People’s Solidarity to Bring US Back to Negotiating Table: President

Lift Medicine Sanctions First If You Want to Help, Rouhani Tells Foes

Iran has already managed to beat the US sanctions and can once again make the US regret doing the wrong things vis-à-vis the Islamic Republic, Rouhani said in a cabinet session on Wednesday.

“We once made it (the US) regret (its actions) and forced it to come to the negotiating table, and it (the US) signed a document it didn’t like. We must do this again,” he added.

“How should we force the US into the negotiating table? The way is our unity and solidarity and power. We must show to Americans that we are capable and powerful,” Rouhani said, adding that one thing to do to stand against the US is participation in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

Highlighting the severe foreign pressures and sanctions imposed by the “global arrogance”, Rouhani called for concerted action to break the sanctions and improve the livelihood of people.

“Neither the administration nor the Judiciary can do that (foil the sanctions) alone. We must all stay with each other. The administration and the parliament must stand by each other,” he said, according to Tasnim.

It is necessary for the administration and the parliament to promote coordination and support each other in order to break the sanctions and increase domestic production, the president underlined, describing efforts to thwart the cruel sanctions on Iran as a collective responsibility.

“If we want to stand against the US, an example (of practical action) is that we must appear on the scene on February 21. All of us must go to the ballot boxes,” he emphasized.

The nationwide votes for the parliament and the midterm election of the Assembly of Experts will be held simultaneously on Friday.

A total of 7,148 candidates, including dozens of Iranians from the religious minorities, are running for the parliament. There are 290 seats in the parliament up for grabs.

The lawmakers are elected for a 4-year term, with no limitation for the incumbent or former parliamentarians to run again.

Canada, Iran to Grant Scholarships in Memory of Ukrainian Flight Victims

Canada, Iran to Grant Scholarships in Memory of Ukrainian Flight Victims

Members of the Academy of Sciences, School of the Environment and Geography of the University of Waterloo, Canada, have decided to establish the fund in honour of the scientific efforts of Marzieh Foroutan who lost her life when the Ukrainian airliner was mistakenly shot down by Iran’s air defence.

Marzieh Foroutan (Marry) had moved to Canada four years ago. She had received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in soil and natural resources engineering from Shiraz University. He went to Alberta State University of Geography and the city of Calgary for graduate studies.

She stayed in Calgary until receiving her PhD. While studying in Calgary, the Waterloo University gave Marry the opportunity to pursue a further career in the field of “Climate Change and Conservation of Water in the World”.

Maryam Latifpour, Director of Scientific Advancement at the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Environmental and Geographical Development, was one of the first to think of awarding a prize to commemorate her classmate Marry. She knows Marzieh very well, saying “Marry was so smart that I could tell her she was a genius. Creativity must also be added to her characteristics. She was a very creative person. Perhaps we can say one of the most creative members of our group. Marry can be considered a member of the environmental community who spent the last years of her life researching on Water Supply and Preservation. She was a member of the World Future Water Program; a plan to provide governments, businesses, and even communities with the tools needed to manage the risks posed by the threats to water supply and quality in Canada.”

Marry, as a scientist with this global program, often spent her time around the lakes south of Ontario. She was also a member of a research program on the lakes of Mars that was supposed to answer the question of whether humans can eventually live on Mars for long.

The University of Waterloo announced recently that it has set up a scholarship in her name to keep Marzieh Foroutan’s name remembered. The scholarship, of course, is granted with the direct permission of Foroutan’s family.

“We decided to raise 50,000 dollars a year to keep Marzieh Foroutan’s name remembered at the University of Waterloo. This amount will be awarded to international students who want to study for a doctorate in the Faculty of Environment and Geography at Waterloo. Anyone can donate about 20 dollars to be part of this scholarship,” said Latifpour.

Hours after the tragic crash, officials at Iran’s Sharif University of Technology also announced they want to set up a memorial service for 16 students who had studied at the university’s various faculties.

“The least we could do was a memorial service for the victims,” said Mahdi Fotouhi, President of Sharif University of Technology.

“However, we are planning to place a monument at the university to commemorate 16 of our late students. Granting scholarship is another measure to be established at Sharif. We plan to grant a number of scholarships with the support of Iran’s National Elites Foundation to commemorate the lost ones annually,” he added.

On January 8, the Boeing 737-800 plane belonging to Ukrainian airline abruptly plunged to the ground about two minutes after takeoff from Tehran, killing all 176 aboard. Iranian officials announced that the plane was mistakenly downed by IRGC air defence forces.

Coronavirus Arrives in Iran: Two Men Die of COVID-19 in Qom

According to a Health Ministry advisor, the samples taken from the two men who died of respiratory problems showed they had the new coronavirus.

Kiyanoush Jahanpour, the head of the Health Ministry’s public relations department, had earlier said “in the past two days, some suspected cases of the new coronavirus were found” in the central city of Qom.

He said apart from the two cases who died of COVID-19, there was an unspecified number of other suspected cases as well, all of whom have been quarantined.

“Subsequent tests are in progress and the results of these tests will be released to the public, once they are finalized,” he said.

“Medical teams have been deployed in Qom and the suspected people have been quarantined,” he added.

He did not say how many people were suspected of having the virus, which causes the illness recently named COVID-19.

The new virus emerged in China in December. Since then, more than 70,000 people have been infected globally, with more than 2,000 deaths being reported, mostly in China.

The virus comes from a large family of what are known as coronaviruses, some causing nothing worse than a cold. It causes cold- and flu-like symptoms, including cough and fever, and in more severe cases, shortness of breath. It can worsen to pneumonia, which can be fatal.

Iran Offers Tax Exemptions for Non-Oil Exports

Speaking at the 93rd meeting of the Iranian administration’s council of dialogue and the private sectors, held in Tehran on Tuesday, Economy Minister Dejpasand said the policy adopted by the administration to increase tax incomes and reduce the share of petrodollars in the next year’s national budget would by no means mount pressure on the private sector businesses which are disciplined and have no outstanding debts.

Unveiling plans for a rise in the tax incomes with new regulations on tax payment, curbing tax avoidance, and introducing new tax exemption activities, the minister said, “Over the past one year, we tried to use tax as an economic policy-making instrument.”

He also explained that the export of non-oil products has been exempted from paying the tax, provided that the currency earned from the exports would return to the country to supply the necessary financial resources for the import of commodities into the country.

“We believe that repatriation of the hard currency earned from the exports to the country’s production and economy cycle could play a role in accelerating the country’s economic growth,” Dejpasand added.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Economy Minister announced later that while the enemies of Iran have been doing their utmost to block the flow of financial resources into Iran, the value of imports during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year stands at around $39.7 billion, while Tehran has also generated around $38.8 billion in the exports in the same period.

Iran Sets World Record in Educating Foreign Students

In comments at a Tuesday meeting between the Iranian Minister of Education and the director generals of the staff departments of the Ministry, Head of the Centre for Coordination, Communication and Ministerial Sphere of the Ministry of Education Ali Baqerzadeh said the Islamic Republic has set a world record in educating foreigners by providing schooling for over 540,000 foreign students.

He also noted that the Education Ministry has laid down standards to ensure that all people eligible to receive schooling could have access to schools and get high-quality education.

While the countries in the world are trying to improve access to schools and facilitate education, the Islamic Republic has succeeded to raise the level of public education and provide elementary education for 98.18 percent of the population, Baqerzadeh added.

He also noted that South Korea’s parliament ratified a bill in January to provide free high school education in the Asian nation, while the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Constitution, adopted forty years ago, provides for free public education until end of the high school.

The official finally emphasized that the promotion of the education system requires utmost care about an even distribution of learning opportunities, warning that a focus on the policy of training elites would seriously harm the education system.
