Iran Says Cyber Attack on Rajaee Port Foiled Successfully

Iran Says Cyber Attack on Rajaee Port Foiled Successfully

An unnamed official at Shahid Rajaee Port denied the claims of a successful attack on the port’s facilities, saying that last week, some disruptions were created in the computer systems of the port, which could be the result of a cyber-attack.

“Due to the full preparedness of the passive defence units in the facilities of the Port and the timely and effective confrontation with the problems, no disturbances have been created in the process of routine activities,” added the source.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of the Ports and Maritime Organisation of Iran, Mohammad Rastad, told ILNA the attack “failed to affect the systems and was only able to infiltrate and damage a number of private operating systems.”

Shahid Rajaee Port is a newly constructed shipping terminal in the Iranian coastal city of Bandar Abbas, on the Strait of Hormuz.

The Washington Post reported on Monday that Israel appears to be behind a cyber-attack earlier this month on computers at the Iranian port, causing massive backups on waterways and roads leading to the facility.

Citing unnamed officials, the Post said the May 9 disruption of Iranian computers was seemingly in retaliation for an earlier attempted cyber-attack on rural water distribution systems in Israel.

The Israeli embassy in Washington or Israel Defence Forces have not commented on the Washington Post report so far.

Iran Once Again Rejects Claims of Harming Afghan Citizens at Border

Iran Once Again Rejects Claims of Harming Afghan Citizens at Border

In a phone conversation with Afghanistan’s National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Vice Admiral Ali Shamkhani said the agreement reached between Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and his political rival Abdullah Abdullah is a key step toward the creation of stability and establishment of a powerful government in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

During the phone talk, Shamkhani said the United States is pursuing an unacceptable path in its political measures by ignoring Afghanistan’s interests.

Shamkhani reiterated that Iran, like in the past, stands ready to offer hygienic and medical treatment aid to Afghanistan free of charge.

Meanwhile, Shamkhani underlined that Iranian border guards had nothing to do with the tragic event in which a group of Afghan nationals lost their lives in the common border area between the two countries. However, he expressed surprise and regret over a “heavy and undocumented news atmosphere” created by some Afghan media outlets and officials.

He said there is documented evidence which refutes claims made against Iran. He noted that if the Afghan side is willing, the issue can be investigated in a joint fact-finding committee without being affected by “unconstructive” media hype.

The Afghan national security advisor, in turn, expressed gratitude to Iran for its determining role in the agreement reached between Ghani and Abdullah.

Mohib said Afghanistan will not allow the cordial relations between the two countries to be affected by unwarranted alarmism.

He further said illegal movements across the common borders between the two countries is an old challenge, expressing hope the tragic incident will turn into an opportunity to work out a permanent solution in that regard.

He added the evacuation of some border checkpoints by Afghan forces has created some problems along the common borders. He said Afghanistan is prepared to work with Iran to find a fundamental solution with regards to border control.

Iran has vehemently rejected claims that Iranian border guards had tortured and thrown several Afghan migrants into a river in a western province to prevent their illegal entry into Iran.

Seventh Edition of STEP Symposium Kicks Off in Tehran

Seventh Edition of STEP Symposium Kicks Off in Tehran

The STEP Symposium, which is held annually in one of the Muslim countries, offers a wide range of joint cooperative research opportunities and creates a platform for in-depth discussions and exchanges of strategic experience to the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the field of science and technology.

On the first day of the STEP symposium, called Exchange of Experiences and Observations of the Therapeutic Staff in Muslim Countries, a series of lectures were held by a number of researchers and physicians, focusing on the COVID-19 epidemic.

At the beginning of the scientific conference, the speakers shared their views on the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Rasoul Dinavernd, the Chairman of the Seventh STEP Meeting and a member of the Board of Directors of the Mustafa Foundation talked about the initiative, saying that 12 speeches by researchers from different countries such as China, Pakistan, Iraq, Azerbaijan Republic and Bangladesh are presented on the first day.

Then, Abdolmajid Cheraghali, the head of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Baqiyatallah University of Medical Sciences, gave a presentation on the treatment of the corona patients using the plasma of the recovered people.

He said the virus has created a global challenge for people and confused the medical staff due to the lack of a specific drug to treat it. All the scientists did their best to find the finest treatment, and one of them was using the plasma of the recovered patients.

“This method is not a new one and has been used in the treatment of other diseases, especially the Spanish influenza outbreak in the twentieth century and the H1N1, MERS and SARS epidemic.”

“Antibodies in plasma are injected into sick people and can treat the patient, especially in the early stages of the infection,” he added.

He further noted the plasma of the recovered individuals is very helpful because it takes a long time to produce a drug or a vaccine for emerging diseases.

“We have the plasma of the recovered people at hand, and we can use it quickly to treat patients; therefore, it is very cost-effective,” he said.

At this edition of STEP symposium, Iranian experts and university professors along with scientists from India, Turkey, Japan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Azerbaijan Republic share their experiences in treating COVID-19.

So far, various centres in the Muslim world, including Iranian universities, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Sultan Qaboos University of Oman, and Karachi University have hosted this symposium.

With the aim of increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of academic centres and encouraging researchers to focus on patenting, through the enhancement of cooperation between the scientists and scholars of the Muslim world, the Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation launched STEP Program in 2015 as part of its scientific activities.

‘Sultan of Cars’, His Wife Sentenced to Death in Iran

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Iran’s Judiciary Spokesman Gholam Hossein Esmaeili said the criminal case includes a mixture of crimes, such as disrupting the country’s currency market and the automobile market.

Vahid Behzadi and his wife, Najva Lasheidaee, have been condemned to death on charges of major disruption to the country’s monetary and currency system, currency smuggling through dummy purchase orders, disrupting the system of distribution of commodities by purchasing more than 6,700 cars in advance from Iranian carmaker Saipa, and money-laundering involving a sum of 32 trillion rials, Esmaeili added.

The Judiciary spokesman noted that 24,700 gold coins and 100 kilograms of gold have been confiscated from the convicted woman’s dwelling.

He also noted that former CEO of Saipa car factory, Mahdi Jamali, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for involvement in disruption to distribution mechanisms, while the former deputy head of the carmaker’s marketing department has been sentenced to 15 years.

Moreover, two parliamentarians, Mohammad Azizi and Fereidoon Ahmadi, have been sentenced to 61 months in prison each for their roles in disrupting the car market, he noted.

Since August 2018, Iran’s Judiciary has been holding public trials of individuals involved in major economic corruption cases.

Iran Reopens Outdoor Centres of Recreation as Coronavirus Peters Out

Iran Reopens Outdoor Centres of Recreation as Coronavirus Peters Out

Mounesan announced on Tuesday that people in Iran can visit the open-air places of recreation as well as the hiking and mountaineering sites by observing the health protocols.

He said the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism places no more restrictions on those sites as long as the visitors conform to the health regulations.

However, the minister noted, it is still illegal to pitch tents and make public camps in the parks for overnight stays in a way that would lead to the gatherings and a crowd of travellers and campers.

He advised the campers to use the official sites operating under authorization from the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism.

Mounesan also noted that he has asked the Interior Ministry to order the provincial officials, the Police and the security authorities to endorse the new decision and allow people to enjoy the ecotourism attractions and the open-air recreational centres easily, considering that the current situation in the society after the coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent problems have mounted mental pressures on the citizens.

The outbreak of COVID-19 in February forced the Iranian officials to abort the nationwide Nowruz celebrations and enforce the closure of parks, religious sites, mountaineering sites, museums, and historic sites across the country.

Iran’s Health Ministry says the novel coronavirus outbreak is reaching the containment phase in many parts of the country, calling for strict compliance with the social distancing protocols to defeat the contagious disease.

Little People Join Popular Campaign to Help Poor in Iran

These short people are taking part in a campaign called “Momenaneh” or “The Believers” in Tehran’s southern Mahallati neighbourhood.

These people have come here to say that although their steps are short, they can gain great achievements.Little People Join Popular Campaign to Help Poor in Iran 1

From afar one imagines they are all children who have come to help; but when you take off your shoes and enter the mosque, you will realise they are all people of short stature.

Interestingly, the most noticeable thing is that most of the short people have attended this gathering along with their families.Little People Join Popular Campaign to Help Poor in Iran 2

Zinat Sheikhi is the youngest and smallest of the short people who have come to help. She has a master’s degree in public relations and got acting experience.

“My family and I live in a town outside Tehran called Pakdasht. Most of the people there are from the working class. I have seen the poverty of our neighbours in person. Since I entered this mosque, I imagine the moment when a stranger knocks the door of one of our poor neighbours leaving one of these aid packages behind the door. You may not know how happy they would be, but I feel it in my bones,” says Zinat.Little People Join Popular Campaign to Help Poor in Iran 3

Meeting with COVID-19 Patients

Ziba Jalilvand is a young short woman who used to go to a hospital to help patients and medical staff, but today she has participated in this charity. She laughs when she remembers the moment she met the corona patients.Little People Join Popular Campaign to Help Poor in Iran 4

“What always upsets us is that people in the society look at us very carefully and do not think at all that we may get upset. The meticulous look of ordinary people in our society bothers us. You may not believe that when we face an ordinary person, they even stare at our fingers. This happened in the hospital as well; but the interesting thing was that we were not upset at all, as if our visit to the hospital made us think differently. I will never forget the moment when a patient with an oxygen mask who was moving with difficulty, lifted his head from the pillow with all his might to see us better. I was really happy to see this scene. Our unfit suits have made our looks funnier. Even the posture of our friends in blue clothes made us laugh. An old man kept saying please bring a wheelchair. I want to go and see these kids in the hall. His companion explained to us that he had not spoken a word since morning, and now, he was talking and laughing,” she added.Little People Join Popular Campaign to Help Poor in Iran 5

Funny Cough

Yousef Sadeqi is a conversational short guy. When it comes to reminiscences, all eyes are on him. He talks of the moment when a group of short people entered the ward with special uniforms on.Little People Join Popular Campaign to Help Poor in Iran 6

“These clothes were so large for us. Honestly, I laughed so hard at my friends. We tried to follow all the health protocols. We were walking down the hall when we noticed a new patient entering the ward. He was a middle-aged man trying to keep his mask on his face. Sitting in a wheelchair, he was as tall as us. As soon as he approached us, he was excited, but he suddenly coughed in our face. Until then, I kept reminding my friends not to get close and not to touch their masks. Seeing this scene, I helplessly said, Sweet Zombie, and we all laughed together,” he continued.Little People Join Popular Campaign to Help Poor in Iran 7

Yusef went on to say that a doctor in the ward told them “Don’t worry. No short person has been infected with the corona so far!” Of course, our argument was something else, he noted. “We think that the Coronavirus has looked at our stature thinking we were children and gave up on us,” said Yusef.
