Iran Calls for Closer Business Ties with Georgia

In a Tuesday message to Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, Jahangiri highlighted the political determination of the two countries’ top officials and the history of mutual cooperation.

He also expressed hope that the activation of current capacities would further develop and expand all-out ties between the two states, especially in the economic and business fields.

Georgia annually celebrates its national day on May 26, marking the anniversary of the 1918 adoption of the Act of Independence, which established the Democratic Republic of Georgia in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution of 1917.

Independence Day is associated with military parades, fireworks, concerts, fairs, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history and culture of Georgia.

Mohammad Javad Zarif, in separate messages to his Lebanese counterpart Nassif Youssef Hitti and Secretary General of Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, offered congratulations on the Eid of resistance and the anniversary of the victorious liberation of southern Lebanon from the Zionist aggressors.

He said the solidarity of the Lebanese people, government and army with resistance is the key to victories achieved against the Zionist enemy.

Zarif also wished dignity and glory for the government and people of Lebanon and the families of the martyrs and veterans of the resistance movement.

Earlier, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani offered congratulations on the liberation of occupied territories in southern Lebanon to Lebanese officials.

Liberation Day is a Lebanese holiday celebrated on May 25. In 2000, the Israeli occupation forces withdrew from territory in Southern Lebanon, marking the end of the conflict in that region.

Second Iranian Oil Tanker Enters Venezuelan Waters

Just like the first tanker, Forest is being escorted by the Latin American country’s navy to its destination.

Earlier, the first tanker named Fortune reached its final destination at the port of El Palito in northern Venezuela.

Forest and Fortune along with three other tankers are expected to carry a total of more than 1.5 million barrels of gasoline from Iran to the South American country which is facing an energy crisis despite having huge oil reserves due to US sanctions.

The three other Iranian oil tankers are “Faxon”, “Petunia” and “Clavel” that are passing Atlantic Ocean to reach Venezuela.

After the first Iranian vessel berthed at Venezuela’s El Palito port, President Nicloas Maduro thanked Iran for its support and solidarity in a televised speech.

He also wrote on his twitter page that “The end of Ramadan brings us the arrival of the FORTUNE ship, a sign of the solidarity of the Islamic people of Iran with Venezuela. In times where the supremacist empire seeks to impose its rule by force, only the brotherhood of free peoples will save us.”

Iran Reports Lowest Daily Increase in COVID-19 Fatalities Since Lockdown

Kianoush Jahanpour said on Monday the new deaths increase the overall fatalities to 7,451.

The spokesman said 19 provinces reported zero fatalities in the past 24 hours, and five provinces reported only one death.

He also confirmed 2,023 new cases of COVID-19 infection, raising the total number of cases to 137,724.

So far, he said, 107,713 patients have recovered from the disease and been discharged from hospitals across the country.

However, 2,585 are currently in severe conditions of the disease, the spokesman added.
He also noted that 818,917 COVID-19 tests have been taken so far in Iran.

According to Jahanpour, the south-western Khuzestan province is still in red conditions, and has the highest number of hospitalizations and screening.

Spokesman Condemns US Envoy’s Comments on Military Action against Iran

In a statement on Monday, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyed Abbas Mousavi categorically rejected a recent baseless report released by the US Department of State, and denounced the anti-Iran allegations as a result of fabrication, conspiracy and illusion that have been made with the purpose of creating a psychological war and exerting pressure on Iran.

“The so-called report, as a matter of course, is an amalgam of fantasy and bogus accusations as no document has been ever provided to prove them, and is being levelled by the ones who have interfered in at least 55 independent countries in the world under spurious pretexts over the past recent century. There is a long list of their (American) illegal measures against people of the world, while the analysts and researchers have revealed only a bit of them by publishing hundreds of books in this regard,” Mousavi added.

“Only in the section of sanctions and economic terrorism and according to the statistics from the US Department of the Treasury, 33 countries have been sanctioned only since 2017 until now. Many of these unilateral and extraterritorial sanctions have had heavy and destructive impacts on the people of those countries,” the spokesman noted.

Throughout its short history of existence, the United States’ militarism has been much harsher than many other bloodthirsty and aggressive empires in the history, Mousavi said, adding, “Such militarism has been so unprecedented that this country (the US) has had 135 big wars in its history, and during 243 years of its existence, only 16 years have been free of wars, massacre, bloodshed, and employment of every conventional and unconventional weapon.”

He further pointed to the US government’s direct and indirect interference in the coups, regime changes and colour revolutions after end of the Second World War, adding, “The US has directly mounted 79 coups and regime change plots in the world countries through the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a number of which have failed. Moreover, the US has provided direct and indirect support for anti-government chaos and anarchy in various countries, some of which have helped puppet individuals and governments rise to power.”

The Iranian spokesperson also cited the US’ support for the fascist and drug-trafficking regimes over the past decades, saying more than 35 regimes based upon fascism and drug trafficking have received American support.

“The scandal of US spying on the world leaders, mainly the US allies, is another part of the dark and terrible record of this rebel government,” Mousavi deplored.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman further slammed the US government as a sponsor of terrorism, and above all, a terrorist state, which, according to the information available, has sponsored at least eight notorious terrorist groups with dreadful and bloody records in the West Asia, Europe and Latin America since 1960s.

Mousavi then pointed to the US’ all-out support for the terrorist Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO), which has assassinated 17,000 Iranian citizens and officials over the past four decades. He also cited the creation of and support for the savage and bloodthirsty ISIS terrorist group as another example of the historic American crimes in recent years.

The spokesperson further pointed to the civilian casualties in the American military drone operations in at least five countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen, saying a large number of civilian targets and individuals have been intentionally attacked in those operations that have been launched in the name of war against terrorism.

“The list of American terrorist and anti-human crimes is very long and appalling; but the US statesmen had better recall which laws have been formally ratified by the Congress even inside the US to whitewash the catastrophes in the eyes of public opinion in the wake of terrorist activities, targeted killings, political assassinations, and extrajudicial executions. They just need to search for those phrases to find out what country employs the ‘most creative techniques for killing innocent people’,” he added.

“Regarding what has been mentioned above, the US has by no means the political, legal and moral competence to make a judgment about the other countries, and has better deal with its own nasty and dark record first, specifically considering that the US Department of State’s management at present is proudly citing lies as a factor in its progress,” Mousavi concluded.

Sina Company, the developer of the robotic surgeon, says the invention has been registered in the United States and China.

It said the company intends to sell the product at the global market in a bid to significantly reduce the global cost of robotic surgery, as these surgeries are very expensive now and only rich countries can afford them.

The company’s CEO says, “From the beginning, we’ve been looking to build a system whose tools are close to the conventional surgical system, but at a low cost. While the US-made robotic surgery requires about $4,000 or $5,000, the operation cost of our version is $400 or $500. So we were looking to build a system that would reduce the cost of robotic surgery.”

This Iranian product needs to obtain local certifications in various parts of the world. For example, Europe needs CE, China needs CFDE, and the United States needs FDA. Thus, Sina Company’s strategy is to enter into negotiations with local partners so that they can invest locally. They can act independently to receive the necessary certificates and enter regional markets later on.

The cost of robotic surgeries is tens of times more than open surgery; therefore, people across the world cannot afford the expenses.
Looking at the trend of surgical changes, one can see that laparoscopic surgery was officially introduced about 40 years ago. In this type of operation, instead of opening the abdomen and creating a 20cm hole, a few 5mm holes are made in the abdomen, and with rod-shaped arms the surgeon carries out the operation.

Currently, there are some surgeries that cannot be performed through laparoscopic methods because of their complexity. However, using robotic surgery, the same procedures can be performed with minimal damage similar to laparoscopy.
There are several serious problems with open surgery. First of all, the accuracy of the surgeon’s hand is limited, and the surgeon gets tired in the long run; therefore, fatigue increases the possibility of error.

The next problem is the non-ergonomic position of the surgeon, which causes spinal problems, as well as joint, neck, and wrist and elbow pain.
That’s why researchers have been thinking about replacing open surgery with robotic ones since about 20 years ago. These systems do not perform the surgery themselves, but the surgeon performs the surgery by commanding the systems.

He uses two robotic sets. The first is the surgical console where the surgeon sits behind, and through the image shown to him on the console, he controls the second robot set that is on the patient’s bed. Every movement that the surgeon’s hands make inside the console is repeated by the robots inside the patient’s body.

The advantage of this method is that the surgeon sits in an ergonomic position, thus fatigue and the possibility of errors is reduced. Secondly, the surgeon’s hand trembles are filtered and not transmitted. Thirdly, the system scales the movements of the hand. That is, if the surgeon’s hand moves one centimetre, the system moves one millimetre inside the patient’s body. As a result, the accuracy of the movement is ten times more, and the errors are reduced by one tenth.

At the moment, over 10 percent of abdominal surgeries in Europe and the United States are performed through this method. That’s more than a million surgeries a year.
