Iran Has Much in Common with Nicaragua: President

“Iran has a lot of common stances and commonalities with Nicaragua, as a progressive country in Latin America,” President Rouhani said at a meeting with new ambassador of Nicaragua to Iran, Isaac Lenin Bravo Jaen, held in Tehran on Wednesday.

Pointing to the history of friendly and cordial ties between Tehran and Managua, the president called for efforts to enhance relations in all fields.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to promote relations and cooperation with the Latin American nations, including Nicaragua, in all fields, especially in the economic, cultural and political fields,” President Rouhani added.

The Nicaraguan ambassador then submitted his letter of credence, lauded Iran as a friend and brother of Nicaragua, and pledged that he would do his utmost to promote relations and cooperation with the Islamic Republic during his tenure.

“For the people of Nicaragua, the Islamic Republic of Iran is the symbol of courage and resistance in the face of the US imperialism’s bullying,” Bravo Jaen noted.

Expansion of relations with Latin American nations in all political, economic and cultural fields has been top on the agenda of Iran’s foreign policy in recent years.

In July 2019, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited Nicaragua during a tour of Latin America and held several meetings with senior officials of the country, including President Daniel Ortega.

Zarif and Ortega exchanged views about a range of issues, including the illegal US sanctions targeting sovereign nations.

“We must stand firm against Washington’s bullying,” added Rouhani in a meeting with the new Korean envoy to Tehran who presented his credentials.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani underlined that the development of sincere ties between Tehran and Pyongyang will benefit both nations and the region.

He also touched upon the friendly ties between the two countries since the Islamic Revolution, expressing hope that the mutual relations would further strengthen by the efforts of the two countries’ officials.

In a statement on Wednesday, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi expressed regret over the incident and extended sympathy for the victims.

He also condemned the terrorist elements’ movement between the two countries and their attack on the border and military forces which led to the martyrdom of forces in the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey.

Mousavi said the clashes broke out near the Iranian-Turkish border between terrorist elements and Turkish military forces.

“According to Turkish media reports, on the evening of Tuesday, July 23, the armed clash took place between elements of terrorist groups and Turkish military forces near the Iranian border. Turkish sources say two border guards were injured and one of them succumbed to his wounds.”

The spokesman for the ministry of foreign affairs added according to the border guards of West Azarbaijan province, as a result of this clash, a mortar shell hit the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which fortunately did not cause any casualties.

“As we have said many times, the fight against terrorism must be a global action, and it is necessary for all countries to be committed to this. As long as the support of some countries for these terrorists continues, we are unfortunately witnessing their crimes,” Mousavi added.

Iranian, Pakistani Diplomats Discuss Afghan Developments

In a telephone conversation on Wednesday, the adviser to Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is also Iran’s special envoy for Afghanistan, and Pakistan’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Mohammad Sadiq Khan discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan and the process of peace talks in that country.

Back in May, the special representatives of Iran and Pakistan for Afghanistan took part in a four-party video conference with their Russian and Chinese peers to talk about the process of peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Iran has accelerated diplomatic efforts in recent weeks to help the warring sides in Afghanistan find a negotiated solution to the crisis.

A high-ranking Afghan delegation, led by the caretaker of Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan, paid a visit to Tehran this week for talks on a broad range of political and economic issues.

Speaker, Envoy Urge Iran-China Joint Action against US

In a Wednesday meeting in Tehran, Qalibaf and Chang called for closer interaction between Tehran and Beijing in various fields, as in confrontation with Washington’s unilateral policies.

Decrying the US’ unilateralism in the contemporary world as a serious threat to international peace and security, the Iranian Parliament speaker stressed the need for regional and international cooperation to deal with the White House’s ill-advised measures.

“Today, the world countries, including Tehran and Beijing, are faced with the US’ arrogant nature and unilateralism and their adverse effects on the rights of nations at the national, regional and international levels,” the top Iranian lawmaker said.

Qalibaf also strongly condemned foreign interference in the internal affairs of China.

“We have repeatedly witnessed the Trump administration’s interference against the sovereignty and independence of countries, including Iran and China, and a series of international issues, such as the environment and destructive weapons,” the Iranian speaker noted.

He finally praised China for its outright opposition to a resolution that the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors has recently adopted on Iran, calling for the expansion of relations between Iran and China in various fields.

In turn, the Chinse ambassador reaffirmed his country’s firm support for Iran’s sovereignty and independence, and expressed opposition to the US’ unilateral sanctions against Tehran.

The Western governments, particularly the US, have been putting pressures on Iran and China for long years on the pretext of human rights issues, but Tehran and Beijing have always stood by each other and have abhorred foreign interference and unilateralism, Chang noted.

The ambassador also expressed China’s unwavering support for the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the international agreements, saying China is opposed to the US’ bid for the extension of a UN arms embargo on Iran.

China has already rejected a planned push by the United States to extend a UN arms embargo on Iran and has dismissed Washington’s attempt to again become a participant of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal after its unilateral withdrawal from the agreement.

It is necessary to encourage the businesses and corporations of the two countries to broaden economic interaction, the president underlined.

“I will do my utmost to achieve that goal,” the Hungarian envoy added.

Iran, China Condemn US’ Unilateralism

In a video conference on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi denounced the US’ bully-style unilateralism, and expressed decisive support for multilateralism and the principles of international law.

In the conference, held as part of the constant consultations between Tehran and Beijing, Foreign Minister Zarif lauded China’s successful performance in the fight against the coronavirus, described the reciprocal supports provided by the two nations in this regard as a new opportunity for a display of rapport, and praised the Chinese government and nation for their help in the battle with COVID-19.

For his part, the Chinese Foreign Minister thanked Iran for expressing sympathy for and assisting the Chinese people in the fight against coronavirus.

Foreign Minister Zarif then highlighted the strategic comprehensive relations between the two countries, expressing hope that the document on comprehensive cooperation would be soon signed by the two sides.

He also stressed the importance of enhancement of the trade ties, and proposed making special arrangements to facilitate visits by the business people of the two countries under the shadow of coronavirus.

Foreign Minister Zarif also condemned the interference from the US and certain Western states in the internal affairs of China, saying such approach undermines international stability.

Welcoming the proposals for the expansion and facilitation of the bilateral trade ties, the Chinese Foreign Minister said, “These proposals, especially the reciprocal facilitation of visits by merchants, would be considered immediately.”

Wang Yi also reaffirmed China’s firm support for the JCPOA, pointed to his recent letter to the UN Security Council President and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and stated, “China is opposed to any attempt to change the contents of the JCPOA and the Security Council Resolution 2231, and the US has no right after withdrawal from the JCPOA to resort to the mechanisms planned in this regard.”

China has already rejected a planned push by the United States to extend a UN arms embargo on Iran and has dismissed Washington’s bid to again become a participant of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal after its unilateral withdrawal from the agreement.

Iran, UN Express Concern over US ‘Caesar Sanctions’ on Syria

Iran, UN Express Concern over US 'Caesar Sanctions' on Syria

In a telephone conversation on Wednesday, Pedersen and Khaji discussed the latest political and on-the-ground developments in Syria, an upcoming virtual summit of the Astana Process guarantor states, the next meeting of Syria’s Constitutional Committee, the latest situation in Idlib and southern Syria, as well as the economic conditions and the problems that sanctions have caused for the people of Syria.

The Iranian and the UN diplomats deplored the extremely worrying consequences of the unilateral economic sanctions for the life of Syrian people, and stressed the necessity of increasing humanitarian assistance to counter the sanctions and proceeding with the political process for the peaceful settlement of the Syrian issue.

In the telephone conversation, the senior assistant to Iran’s foreign minister condemned the illegal and inhumane sanctions imposed by the US, calling for the removal of the bans.

Khaji also noted that the new US sanctions, known as the Caesar Act, have been imposed with the purpose of putting pressure on the Syrian people and pursuing the US’ illegitimate objectives by resorting to economic terrorism, stressing that such hostile measures could not undermine the Syrian people and their allies’ determination to continue supports for that country’s people and legitimate government.
