Iran Leader attends Ashura eve mourning ceremony in Tehran

The ceremony was attended by people from various walks of life.

A religious cleric delivered a speech, emphasizing the lessons of Imam Hussein’s uprising, particularly the call to resist injustice and oppression, drawing parallels with recent events and Iran’s conflict with the US and Israel.

He cited global Zionism as the core of the opposing front and reiterated that the Iranian people, inspired by the Ashura ethos, will never submit to tyranny.

Following the speech, renowned elegist Mahmoud Karimi recited elegies in memory of Imam Hussein and his companions over 1300 years ago.

In a notable moment, the Leader requested Karimi to perform the patriotic anthem “Ey Iran” (“O Iran”).

The event received widespread coverage in Western media, including outlets in the US, following the recent spat.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi also reacted to the Leader’s presence by sharing an image from the ceremony, writing, “With you, one dares to sail into deep waters.”

Millions across Iran commemorate Imam Hussein’s Martyrdom on Ashura

Ashura marks the climax of ten days of mourning in the Islamic month of Muharram. Across the country, mourners participate in solemn rituals, including reciting elegies, chest-beating ceremonies, and performing Ta’zieh, a traditional passion play that reenacts the tragic events of the Battle of Karbala.

Large crowds have gathered at major religious sites such as the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad and the Hazrat Fatemeh Masumeh Shrine in Qom, with pilgrims from across the nation paying their respects.

Imam Hussein, along with 72 of his companions, was martyred in 680 AD in Karbala, present-day Iraq, after standing against the forces of the Umayyad caliph Yazid I. The event is remembered as a symbol of resistance against tyranny and injustice.

As part of the commemorations, Iranians also distribute free food and drinks, known as Nazri, to mourners and the underprivileged, keeping alive the spirit of sacrifice and solidarity Imam Hussein embodied.

Similar ceremonies are also held in many countries worldwide.

Largest open air Ta’zieh in Iran held in Sahra Roud, Fasa: The story of Horr ibn Yazid Ryahi

This Ta’zieh is particularly captivating due to the large number of performers, the realistic setting, and horseback riders galloping through the scene. Here is a photo report of the Ta’zieh titled “Awakened Conscience”:

Iraqi Kurdistan region denies existence of Zionist regime’s bases

Iraq Kurdistan

In a statement, the ministry firmly denied the existence of any Israeli bases or facilities within the Kurdistan region, labeling such accusations as baseless and harmful to regional security.

It further called on Iraq’s central government in Baghdad to intervene and prevent possible attacks and destabilizing actions against the autonomous region.

The Kurdistan counter-terrorism department also reported that an explosive-laden drone was intercepted and downed near Erbil airport late Thursday, causing no casualties or damage. Meanwhile, Iraqi lawmaker Thaer Mukhif has urged an emergency parliamentary session to address what he described as a dangerous security breach involving Mossad operatives in Kurdistan.

He warned that the presence of such elements would threaten Iraq’s sovereignty and security.

Mukhaif slammed Baghdad’s inability to hold Erbil accountable.

IRGC marks 42nd anniversary of Iranian diplomats’ abduction, warns Zionist regime

IRGC

In an official statement, the IRGC warned that any new acts of aggression would accelerate the collapse of the “fake regime”.

The diplomats, Ahmad Motevaselian, Seyed Mohsen Mousavi, Taghi Rastegar Moghaddam, and Kazem Akhavan, were kidnapped by agents linked to the Israeli occupation forces in Lebanon on July 5, 1982.

The IRGC expressed solidarity with the families of the abductees and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the legacy of resistance championed by these national heroes.

The statement noted that the anniversary comes shortly after the recent 12-day war initiated by Israel and the US against Iran, which ended with Iran’s decisive defensive response exposing Israel’s vulnerability.

The IRGC condemned the Israeli regime’s decades-long crimes, including ongoing genocide in Palestine and targeted assassinations of resistance figures.

It also called on the UN, the UN Human Rights Council, and the International Red Cross to actively and impartially pursue justice.

The statement urged Lebanon to intensify investigations and consider forming a joint fact-finding committee with international cooperation regarding the case.
The IRGC further affirmed Iran’s resolve to continue the path of steadfastness until divine promises are fulfilled.

Putin ‘wants to keep killing people’: Trump

Trump reiterated that he was “very unhappy” with the July 3 phone call between the two leaders.

“It just seems like he wants to go all the way and just keep killing people. It’s not good. I wasn’t happy with it,” Trump told reporters.

The call, which lasted about an hour, was confirmed by the Kremlin to have focused on Ukraine. Putin reportedly told Trump that Russia would continue pursuing its “goals” in the war.

Trump’s remarks follow a sharp escalation in Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine that have killed and injured hundreds of civilians in recent weeks.

The strikes have hit multiple regions, destroying civilian infrastructure amid persistent calls from Ukraine, the U.S., and Europe for an unconditional ceasefire.

The day after his call with Putin, the U.S. president spoke by phone with President Volodymyr Zelensky and said the two had a “very strategic” conversation.

“We talked about different things… I think it was a very, very strategic call,” Trump said. When asked about supplying Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, he replied, “Yeah, we might.”

“They’re going to need something because they’re being hit pretty hard,” Trump added.

The statement comes as the U.S. Defense Department has paused deliveries of several key weapons systems, including Patriot missiles and precision-guided munitions, prompting concern in Kyiv.

While Trump has stated he wants to help Ukraine, his administration has not imposed new sanctions on Russia since taking office and has not approved additional aid packages.

The U.S. president has instead directed strikes against Iran, targeting three nuclear facilities in June in response to regional escalations, a move critics say contrasts with his cautious approach toward Moscow.

When asked why he appears tougher on Tehran than Moscow, Trump told reporters, “No, I think I’m tougher on Russia than I am on Iran.”

Despite two rounds of face-to-face talks between Moscow and Kyiv in May and June in Istanbul, no agreement on a ceasefire has been reached. The negotiations have only resulted in prisoner exchanges, as Moscow continues to push for maximalist demands in peace talks.

Netanyahu era sees 40% surge in Israeli settlements in West Bank: Report

Israeli settlements

The Israeli Channel 12 said that the West Bank is experiencing an Israeli settlement boom since the formation of Netanyahu’s government at the end of 2022.

The number of settlements increased from 128 in the West Bank to 178, representing about a 40% rise, alongside unprecedented demolitions of Palestinian homes, it said.

The report came two days after 14 Israeli ministers from Netanyahu’s Likud Party, along with Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, signed a letter demanding Netanyahu to annex the occupied territory immediately.

Tel Aviv usually shows little concern for settler attacks on Palestinians; however, their recent assaults on Israeli soldiers and police officers have occupied all Israeli politicians.

Last week, three Palestinians were killed and seven others injured in a deadly settler attack on the town of Kafr Malik in the central West Bank on June 28.

“The announcement of dozens of new settlements, the unprecedented pace of establishing illegal outposts, the construction of strategic roads, and the large-scale demolition of Palestinian buildings all aim to strengthen Jewish control over the area and effectively eliminate the two-state solution,” the channel said.

“No government has ever encouraged settlement as much as this one,” Meir Deutsch, CEO of the far-right Regavim movement, was quoted as saying by the channel.

“Israel is managing Judea and Samaria as the homeowner for the first time since the state’s establishment (1948/Palestinian Nakba).”

According to the report, at least 50 new settlements have been announced in the West Bank since the formation of the current government.

“According to research data, 19 of the newly recognized settlements already exist, seven are currently grazing farms, 14 are neighborhoods in settlements, and 10 are settlements only on paper.”

Alongside the “establishment of dozens of new settlements, construction in existing settlements in the West Bank broke records in the past two and a half years, and even more so since early 2025,” the channel added.

It explained that 41,709 settler homes have been approved, a number exceeding those recorded in the six years preceding Netanyahu’s government.

According to the channel, the number of illegal settlement outposts in the West Bank reached 214 by the end of 2024, of which 66 were established during the Israeli genocide in Gaza war.

During the first two years of the current government, the number of outposts rose by about 300% compared to the previous two years, according to the channel.

“Most of the illegal outposts established are farming outposts occupying vast areas, with grazing lands currently covering about 787 square kilometers, mostly in central and eastern West Bank.”

The channel noted that the increase in settlement construction coincides with the rise in the number of illegal settlers, explaining that from 2013 to 2023, the number of settlers in the West Bank grew by 38%, from 374,000 to 517,000, according to the data of West Bank settlements council Yesha.

Nearly half a million undocumented Afghan nationals leave Iran

Iran Afghanistan Refugee

Amirollah Shamghadari said the process has been conducted with full respect and human dignity.

Shamghadari stressed that the border crossing has seen the highest volume of Afghan departures in recent weeks.

“67 percent of all Afghan exits have taken place via Dogharoun”, he said.

He added that on Friday alone, some 26,000 Afghans crossed the border, many of them directly without passing through refugee camps.

Shamghadari underlined Iran’s official policy of supporting voluntary, humane, and lawful departures, adding that Afghan nationals have expressed satisfaction with the services provided at the Safid Sang and Hasanabad camps.

“Priority is given to families who have voluntarily introduced themselves rather than those who were apprehended”, he noted.

He reiterated that xenophobia and anti-Afghan sentiment are fundamentally rejected by the Islamic Republic, highlighting the deep historical and cultural ties between Iran and Afghanistan.

Shamghadari further dismissed allegations that the Afghan departures were motivated by espionage concerns involving Mossad, labeling such claims as part of an enemy-led psychological operation.

He stressed that the Islamic Republic’s goal is to organize the current situation and eventually allow re-entry for Afghan nationals under legal and regulated frameworks.

Gaza ceasefire deal may come next week after ‘positive’ Hamas response: Trump

Israeli Army

“There could be a deal on a Gaza ceasefire by next week,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, adding that he had not yet been briefed on the status of the negotiations, according to Arab News.

Hamas announced it “has submitted its positive response” to Egyptian and Qatari mediators and was “fully prepared to immediately enter into a round of negotiations regarding the mechanism for implementing this framework.”

A Hamas official stated the group seeks guarantees for a full withdrawal of Israeli forces and a lasting truce.

Trump reportedly promised that a 60-day ceasefire could be extended if needed.

The ceasefire push came amid continued violence.

Despite international calls for a ceasefire, Israel has pursued a genocidal war on Gaza, killing more than 57,200 Palestinians, most of them women and children, since late 2023.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.

Tabriz Airport resumes operations with first post-war flight

Ramin Azari, Director General of East Azarbaijan Airports, announced that the first post-war flight, operated by Iran’s ATA Airlines, took off from Shahid Madani International Airport in Tabriz to Istanbul, following the completion of runway reconstruction.

He said the airport is now fully prepared to handle both domestic and international flights.

Azari commended the extraordinary round-the-clock efforts of airport staff in restoring operations after “brutal” Israeli aggression last month.

According to Azari, the facility was declared operational following thorough inspections and approval by the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran and the Airports and Air Navigation Company.

Shahid Madani International Airport, located in northwestern Tabriz, is a key hub for both passenger and cargo transport and operates 24/7 under an open-sky policy. It plays a vital role in regional and international air traffic, particularly as a corridor for flights between Europe and Southeast or Central Asia.

Tabriz was one of the hardest hit cities of Iran during the Israeli strikes, aided by the US.
