Iran’s New COVID-19 Cases Continue to Decline

In a press briefing on Monday, Sima-Sadat Lari said the virus has killed 109 patients since Sunday noon, increasing the overall death toll to 21,571.

So far, she added, 323,233 patients have recovered from the disease or been discharged from the hospital.

Lari said 3,729 patients are also in critical conditions caused by more severe infection.
The spokeswoman noted that 3,231,110 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country so far.

She said the high-risk “red” zones include Tehran, Qom, Mazandaran, East Azarbaijan, Isfahan, Yazd, Khorasan Razavi, North Khorasan, Semnan, Gilan, Zanjan, Qazvin, and Kerman provinces.

The “orange” zones also include Lorestan, Ardabil, Golestan, Markazi, Alborz, Hormozgan, Ilam, Fars, Bushehr, West Azarbaijan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Kermanshah, South Khorasan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, and Khuzestan provinces, she added.

Iran’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Kazem Gharibabadi, announced that Araqchi has arrived in the Austrian capital for the latest round of the Joint Commission of the 2015 nuclear deal, slated for Tuesday.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister is going to hold bilateral talks with heads of a number of the foreign delegations on the sidelines of the Joint Commission session.

The remaining parties to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal are also scheduled to hold expert meetings on Monday.

Araqchi will be holding talks with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi and with Austria’s foreign minister during his stay in Vienna.

The European Union announced earlier that the September 1 session of the JCPOA Joint Commission will be chaired on behalf of EU High Representative Josep Borrell by EEAS Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid.

The US was initially a signatory to the JCPOA, but withdrew from the deal in May 2018 in violation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 that endorses the agreement.

“The redoubled efforts of the officials of the two countries to identify and eliminate possible obstacles and problems and to make the most of the existing capacities can be a great step in development of relations and providing more welfare for our nations,” he noted.

Sam Ghoddos – French Ligue 2

 

Sam Ghoddos, who can be deployed as a midfielder and also a winger, plays for Ligue 2 side Amiens SC. He began his football career in Swedish club Limhamn Bunkeflo back in 2011 before signing for Ostersund in 2016 spending three campaigns with the Swedish club.

He signed for French club Amiens in the summer of 2018 for €3.8 million becoming the first Iranian to ever play in the Ligue 1. He bagged four goals in 27 league matches for the club in his first campaign but unfortunately, he was unable to rescue the team from relegation as they currently play in the French Ligue 2, his predictions for scoring was also relatively due to his football activities on the pitch.

 

Sadegh Moharrami – Croatian First Football League

 

Playing as a prolific right-back, Sadegh Moharrami began his football career in the Persian Pro League with Malavan in 2013 before being sold to Persepolis in 2016, where he lifted the Iranian league twice and the Iranian Super Cup. In the summer of 2018, he was eventually sold to Croatia to join Dinamo Zagreb. Relying on his defensive and attacking skill, he spent two seasons with the club helping them lift the Croatian First Football League in 2018/19 and 2019/20 campaign.

He currently plays for Lokomotiva, a prolific club in the Croatian football league.

 

Amir Abedzadeh – Primeira Liga

 

Being an Iranian football fan, you all should remember the name Ahmad Reza Abedzadeh, the Iranian legendary goalkeeper. Well, Amir Abedzadeh is the son of that legendary figure and he also plays the goalkeeping position.

The 27-year-old, who has won three caps for the Iran national team, currently plies his trade with Portuguese club Maritimo in the Primeira Liga. He joined the Portuguese club during the winter transfer window back in 2017. Before that, he played for Persepolis, Ran Ahan.

 

Alireza Jahanbakhsh – English Premier League

 

Alireza, who began his professional football career with Damash Gilan, currently plays as an attacking midfielder for English club Brighton & Hove Albion following his move from Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar during the summer transfer window back in 2018 for £17 million fees.

In his first season with the English club, the 27-year-old player, who can be deployed as a winger, helped the club battle against relegation in the 2018/19 campaign. For the 2019/20 campaign, the Iranian was not able to make much impact on the team as he mostly on the sidelines due to injuries for the season.

n a Monday letter to Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin al-Mustafa Billah Shah, Rouhani congratulated the Malaysian king, nation and government on the country’s national day, which marks the independence of Malaysia from the British rule in 1957.

Praising the Malaysian government and nation for their stances and efforts, and highlighting the two countries’ common standpoint concerning confrontation with the crises that have come to afflict the Muslim world, including Palestine’s continued occupation and the Palestinians’ ongoing suffering, President Rouhani said dialogue and constructive interaction among Islamic governments is the only way out of the problems facing the Muslim world.

Accordingly, Rouhani added, the monarch was welcome in the Islamic Republic for talks and consultation on the Muslim world’s predicaments and the Islamic Republic’s proposals aimed at bringing about peace and security.

The Iranian president said the Malaysian king’s potential visit would also feature further development of ties with the “friendly and brotherly” country of Malaysia.

“I hope that under the aegis of the existing political will, the countries will witness further solidarity between the two nations and development of their mutual relations in all political, economic, cultural, and international areas,” he added in the letter.

Zarif’s tweet also contains an innuendo to the fact that American officials have frequently used the sentence in an implicit threat of military force against Iran.

Portland has been the scene of angry protests against police injustice and racial discrimination since May, when George Floyd, a black American, was killed by a white police officer in Minnesota.

Tensions in the city intensified in July after the Trump administration deployed federal agents to crack down on the protests.

President Rouhani on Sunday expressed satisfaction with the strict observance of health protocols during the days of Muharram, especially on the nights of Tasu’a and Ashura, as reported by Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and Health Minister Saeed Namaki, the heads of the security and health committees of the National Task Force for Fighting Coronavirus.

In a conversation with the two ministers, President Rouhani referred to people’s pious and responsible behaviour in holding their glorious mourning ceremonies while adhering to strict health protocols, and said the behaviour has its roots in the rich religious culture of the people and their commitment to humanitarian issues and altruism.

The President also responded to the concerns of the Ministers of Health and the Interior about the new wave of summer trips during the recent holidays, saying, “Those who have travelled during the recent holidays should not allow their non-compliance with protocols to cause a new escalation of the COVID-19 outbreak, and negatively affect the hard work of the medical staff.”

Rouhani stated, “Those who have travelled should strictly follow the health instructions and social distancing and avoid being in crowded places, to prevent damaging the success that has been achieved in controlling the second wave of coronavirus.”

He further pointed to the news of the development of the coronavirus vaccine in some countries, and ordered the necessary measures to purchase the vaccine as soon as possible and to carry out the usual experimental and diagnostic steps in order to start effective measures in this field in the country as soon as possible.

“Considering the spread of the second wave of the outbreak of COVID-19, the Ministry of Health should take necessary measures to prevent burnout and exhaustion of the country’s medical staff and, if necessary, take action to train new staff and replace them more quickly.”

Rouhani emphasised that, of course, the most important point in this regard is that people strictly follow the health protocols to prevent more trouble and as a result, fatigue and exhaustion for the country’s healthcare staff and defenders, who have been at the forefront of fighting the disease for more than six months.
