Iranian Drones Capture Close Footage of USS Nimitz

The video was released on Thursday by the IRGC-affiliated Fars News Agency.

The drones are seen zooming in on the flotilla to the point where each captured object’s details become clearly visible.

The footage begins by showing a sprawling arrangement of the Corps’ drone fleet and its speedboats, and is accompanied by a speech by the force’s Chief Commander Major General Hossein Salami, who addresses the country’s enemies.

“We say this to our enemies too as they are close to us, hear our voice, and see pictures depicting the growth of this manifestation of power,” General Salami is heard stating. “Take a salutary lesson. Should you perpetrate a blunder, we would crush you,” he says.

The commander notes, “Our naval force has stopped operating [too] close to the sea. By degrees, it will turn into a naval force outfitted with an [accompanying] air force, a seaborne air force. Here we stand strongly and steadfastly. We build up our power. We never stop. We advance on the horizon. We increase the combat radius of our weapons,” the official remarks.

Over 4,000 Iranian COVID-19 Patients Receiving Intensive Care

In a press briefing on Friday, Sima-Sadat Lari said the novel coronavirus has killed 207 patients since Thursday noon, the highest daily rise since August 6.

The new deaths increase the overall death toll to 25,222, she added.

Lari notes 439,882 patients have contracted the virus so far, including 3,563 new cases identified in the past 24 hours.

So far, she added, 369,842 patients have recovered from the disease or been discharged from the hospital.

The spokeswoman noted that 3,879,640 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country so far.

She said the high-risk “red” zones include Tehran, Qom, Mazandaran, East Azarbaijan, Isfahan, Yazd, Ardabil, Khorasan Razavi, Khuzestan, Hamadan, West Azarbaijan, Bushehr, Alborz, Lorestan, Markazi, Ilam, South Khorasan, Kermanshah, North Khorasan, Semnan, Gilan, Zanjan, Qazvin, and Kerman provinces.

The “orange” zones also include Golestan, Hormozgan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, and Fars provinces, she added.

Iran’s COVID-19 Cases Hit 600,000: Ministry

In a press briefing on Thursday, Sima-Sadat Lari said 436,319 patients have contracted the virus so far, including 3,521 new cases identified in the past 24 hours.

So far, she added, 367,829 patients have recovered from the disease or been discharged from the hospital.

Lari said 3,957 patients are also in critical conditions caused by more severe infection.

The spokeswoman noted that 3,854,827 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country so far.

She said the high-risk “red” zones include Tehran, Qom, Mazandaran, East Azarbaijan, Isfahan, Yazd, Ardabil, Khorasan Razavi, Khuzestan, Hamadan, West Azarbaijan, Bushehr, Alborz, Lorestan, Markazi, Ilam, South Khorasan, Kermanshah, North Khorasan, Semnan, Gilan, Zanjan, Qazvin, and Kerman provinces.

The projects come with a price tag of around Rls. 10.7 trillion.

Present at the inauguration ceremony was President Hassan Rouhani, who described sports and tourism as two key contributors to boosting happiness and health in society.

He said any tourist visiting Iran’s tourism hubs is mesmerized and captivated by the great civilization of the country, “which has a history dating back more than 7,000 years.”

The president also expressed hope that the tourism industry in the country will further expand after the coronavirus pandemic is over.

He also expressed satisfaction with efforts made to further promote women’s sports.

He said the projects put into service on Thursday will create jobs for well over 1,700 people.

In his message to the President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian, Rouhani said, “I hope to see the growing development of relations, considering the historical, cultural and social ties between the two countries and also in the light of the efforts of the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia to serve the interests of the two nations.”

In his congratulatory message to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the President stated that “without a doubt, the common cultural, social and friendly ties between the two countries will provide fertile grounds for the development and deepening of relations and the people of the two countries will be able to establish synergy in the path of development to be a model for constructive and friendly relations between the countries around the world.”

President Rouhani expressed the hope that in the light of the close and friendly efforts and interactions of the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Armenia, there will be a bright future full of prosperity for the two nations.

“Saudi Arabia desperately seeks to press charges against others in order to deflect attention from its long, dark record of extensively supporting terrorism, promoting extremist ideologies, sowing the seeds of discord and hatred, making destabilizing moves in the region and committing crimes during its aggression against Yemen in the past six years,” Majid Takht-Ravanchi noted.

“It has completely been proven that Saudi Arabia, as a source of instability in the region, was the main financial supporter of Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi dictator, during Iraq’s eight-year aggression against Iran during which he committed countless crimes, including using chemical weapons against Iranian and Iraqi citizens and cities,” he added.

“It has also become completely clear today that Saudi Wahhabi ideology was the main source of inspiration for the most dangerous terrorist groups such as the ISIS and al-Qaeda, and this country is seen as the key sponsor of these groups with its petrodollars,” he said.

“Another example of Saudi Arabia’s destabilizing move in the region is its merciless killings during its aggression against Yemen over the past six years, which have had no results other than the killing of women and children and the destruction of houses, mosques and hospitals and the targeting of mourning and wedding ceremonies alike,” he noted.

“These crimes against Yemeni children have been so heinous that the UN has put Saudi Arabia on top of the list of the world’s child-killing entities, though the name of the country was removed from the list later due to completely unprofessional reasons,” he said.

The ambassador said Riyadh, in an inhumane move, keeps using famine as a war tactic and also prevents fuel, food and medicines from being sent to Yemeni people.

Iran’s reaction came after the Saudi king, in his UN General Assembly speech, accused Iran of having struck Saudi oil facilities with missiles last year, a charge that Tehran vehemently denies.

The monarch claimed Iran keeps targeting Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles and drones.
He said international pressure against Iran should increase in order to prevent Tehran from attaining what he called “weapons of mass destruction.”

Zarif made the remarks in a speech to a virtual ministerial meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

What follows is the full text of Foreign Minister Zarif’s speech delivered on Thursday, September 24, 2020:

 

In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

Mr. Chairman,

Allow me to begin by thanking you for convening this important CICA event, and to extend my best wishes to our new Executive Director.

Distinguished Colleagues,

To meet the special challenges of our time, we need to solidify our cooperation within the framework of CICA. We need to secure a pivotal role for the organization, to advance multilateralism, and to ensure inclusive collaboration. It is imperative for us to pool our resources to jointly tackle the enormous challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic.

First and foremost, we all need to embrace multilateralism and reject unilateralism in addressing a global challenge of this magnitude; one that has defied all geographical, political and socio-economic divisions.

As CICA members, we should strive to strengthen cooperation within the framework of our organization—in coordination with the UN and WHO—to ensure full, free and fair access to health services, medicine, and medical equipment for our peoples. We must also act to ensure that no one can arbitrarily challenge professional international organizations.

We must collectively emphasize the need for industrialized economies to assist developing countries in the transfer of medical technology and equipment. And we must urge international economic institutions—as well as wealthy countries—to provide other nations and relevant international and regional organizations with necessary financial assistance in their campaigns against the pandemic.

As inheritors of great Asian civilizations, we should always encourage a people-first approach, putting saving human lives and human dignity above all else, and reject any politicization of the pandemic.

We need to jointly confront the destructive impact of unilateral coercive measures on efforts to combat the pandemic. They are nothing but economic and medical terrorism, and we must refuse to comply with these unlawful measures in our collective endeavor to tackle this common affliction of humanity.

Dear Friends,

The only way to overcome common challenges that threaten the health and security of our nations is to work together to find common solutions that effectively and decisively address the sources of the threats.  My country stands ready to join our friends and neighbors in CICA and exchange knowledge and expertise in this collective mission.

We need humility and multilateral cooperation to grapple with a microscopic enemy that has brought major powers to their knee—without deference to their military might, economic wealth and propaganda machines.
